Yes exactly. It is the question of the reality meeting expectations. I probably watched these with a critical eye because of that and therefore found more faults with them than it was necessary! 🤣🤣🤣

It made me think of that additional final scene (floating around the internet!) of the Korean version of Moon Lovers where they meet in the present....

Most of the users here seem to be young people(judging by their comments). They do not watch j dramas which are, probably, the only ones still not yet completely under netflix influence. So they can address adult viewers and deal with adult themes which may be uncomfortable, nuanced and difficult.

Love In The Big City was mainstream, right? Remember the baclash the actor got for playing a gay character. It did not incite producers to make more dramas with openly gay main characters....

What a great list : brilliant title and such an eloquent explanation....this is the kind of dramas that got me hooked on K dramas in the first place. I've seen most of them and though there are a couple I did not like (Camelia & Cha cha cha - I must have an issue with small town setting!🤣), they belong on this list. Thanks for the recs...

I am considering watching this but I have a couple question for you after reading your review: why is this not a BL? It has "gay romance" tag so I am a bit confused now....And also, why are people so disappointed with the ending? Was it botched?

Queerbaiting as I see it is a relationship in a piece of fiction that makes everyone think it is gay but it definitely is not as the MLs are as straight as a broomsticks!
Queercoding would be all those chinese bromances: the romance is not openly shown but there are things said and gestures made which confirm the relationship to be gay.
Am I getting this wrong?

MDL i.e. this site. The owners are only known under their screen names Ji-N and Skye-N-Rain and they're somewhere in the US. Everyone who "works" on this site like moderators, editors and contributors (to the database) are ALL volunteers; only a couple of writers (Lily Alice and I don't remember the other one...) are actually paid with real money....as I was told once by one of them!
This site is a very lucrative business using free labour (like viki for example) provided by passionate fans!

Just consider this site 5 years ago and today. It used to be user friendly, made by and for the fans, the articles were written by users and were extremely interesting. A couple of years ago, they invented Lily Alice and the chase for the clicks began while users' contributions were kept behind the screen (creating database entries) and editorials were quietly phased out. Do you remember the last user written editorial? I don't....it's been so long!
