Only to play devil's advocate and.. because I am literally obsessed with this remake, I think the producers and scriptwriters had to do the best they could to tone down the bullying due to topic censorship in China. I agree that Shan Cai's portrayal initially suffers as a result of this... but it gets better? Personally, I never liked Shan Cai's character to begin with so I really did not care for how she came across in this remake. If anything Shen Yue brings a really cute spin to her portrayal which I kind of appreciate...

My favorite creative change so far is how the show manages to give ample time for DMS and SC to explore their love... I find it adorable. I love their scenes together. The original MG felt too rushed with too few scenes of the two actually together.
Unfavorable opinion but...I also kinda like the product placement. It was annoying at first but now it's actually really funny because of how blatant it is... every time I see a product placement, I can't help but laugh.
I am upset that the top reviews of this show are rating this show after watching three other adaptations. I feel like their vision of the show is not at all my vision. I watched this version first and it rocked my world as a young girl. People have to understand that Meteor Garden came out nearly twenty years ago... It was a different time period then. The producers and crew had little to NO budget to film this. The cast were all new actors. Yet, this show became a Asian phenomenon... Meteor Garden was huge!

Yeah Eng Sub versions are behind by a few episodes. They have already released up to episode 32 in China but I cannot find the full episode 32 anywhere.
Both he and Yue Yue are impressing me in these latter episodes. They are really putting on a great show for everyone. I really hope more people give them a chance!

You stated exactly why everyone is annoyed with CaiNa. If she only had any redeemable characteristics or if she were in love with Mei Zuo, we wouldn't mind her filler story as much.

If her arch involved more of Mei Zuo, I would feel less annoyed... but he was not even a factor. Her whole story was totally irrelevant and a time waste. Not only that but she broke his heart....ugh!

Same here. Now that I got to know Didi's voice. The dubbed voice just doesn't fit him. Same with Shen Yue. Their voices sound so much better in real life. I feel like there are parts of the show where they kept his real voice though.

I find it funny how NO ONE cared she literally kicked him in the face until he passes out from a concussion... but people get all worked up when he violently tries to kiss her...
The original story was very violent. They are adapting from source material that was old and well known. I personally feel like the changes they made to update the story was well done. This scene was terrible but it was important to his character development because he changes his violent behavior because of it.
