After 1st and 2nd episode, the Sml has so many red flags.
I agree, and think a lot of it has to do with how cultural/societal expectations & family obligations shaped his character and behavior. I mean both FL & 2ML were attracted to each other but 2ML held himself back, understandably so. Even when he was in the workforce, he was focused on his career and establishing himself financially first, before letting himself fall in love & getting into a relationship (I don't think he likes his childhood friend Rong Rong at all. He just feels obligated to support her or whatever trying to please his mother & even lil bro both were telling him like marry her already). It'll be interesting to see how the FL & 2ML story would have evolved had they both come from the same economic/social class.
I'm surprisingly loving how the story is unfolding so far but tempted to read the novel because I can't wait to find out what happens next! I won't though because I want to enjoy the angst & suspense too lol. So grateful for the spoilers and discussion on MDL, being here is definitely one of the best parts of watching an exciting Cdrama as it airs.
This is my first Song Wei Long cdrama but have seen ZJM in Princess Royal (she was wonderful!) and LWM in Fangs of Fortune playing CX's little brother (so amazing!). Actually when I found out LWM was 2ML I was completely seated for this just because I wanted to see how he would handle this kind of role (also, because, wow! have you seen him in Fangs of Fortune?). So far, not disappointed with him as 2ML. SWL is really good too as the brooding LYS but glad to see in the previews that he is starting to realize the folly of his assumptions and finally can be free from his misplaced grudges. By the way, didn't episode 10 preview give Business Proposal vibes?!? Completely loved it and I just want to see what happens next!
In terms of storyline, I think 2ML has a lot of issues & hangups but likes FL so I predict he'll probably try to win her over by first climbing to the top of the corporate ladder, so proving himself to be worthy of her from a financial standing POV, but because of too much insecurity he won't be able to make her happy and he'll realize this and let her go amicably. My wishful thinking is that he'll get some kind of redemption arc!
Oh my gosh this is so good! I'm totally hooked! Loving the character development so far and how each episode ends on a cliffhanger. So glad I picked this up. 🥰
Still pissed GJM gave Dudu a 💩 script despite telling her he’ll make her into a female lead. He just ended…
But Neo is so good! I didn't know about this :( I hope he prevails and achieves even more recognition & popularity because honestly he deserves it he is so talented! After FoF, I've become a fan ♥️
I needed something different after watching Fated Hearts like 3 times lol and picked this up because of Cheng Lei, but wow I loved Fangs of Fortune! Different vibe and atmosphere. Very beautiful, artistic production from the team behind My Journey to You which I also loved.
I got so attached to the main characters, especially Zhao Yuan Zhu and Zhuo Yi Chen ♥️. I feel so sad with the incredibly poignant ending but it makes one reflect and appreciate life and all of its joys & messiness 💔.
Another amazing part of FoF is the beautiful OST ♥️. I'll be listening to this for a while.
If there was any kind of weakness, I think the ending could have been paced better. Also the plot / journey was a bit chaotic and I had to stop a few times and think, ok what are they doing and why, but then I just let it go and let the plot flow. Also had some issues with the acting like I didn't think the actor that played the main antagonist, the doctor, was that great. Also a bit disappointed that Wen Xiao was not able to do much at the end. Otherwise, I loved it ♥️.
How do you all manage to wait for new episodes every day for this masterpiece? I’m glad I put it on hold cause…
I survived by coming here! 😂 The wait was thrilling & really enjoyed everyone's thoughts & speculations here. I've rewatched it already and still cannot let go!
that fighting scene at episode 12 is amazing. does it keep up? honestly, episode 12 scene is one of the best I’ve…
There's a really memorable fighting scene in Legend of the Female General episode 12, I think, involving the use of a whip as a formidable yet elegant weapon. I was floored when I first saw this and had to rewatch, it was that amazing!
I also enjoyed My Journey to You for the fighting scenes, also story, atmosphere, acting, etc. but the open ending was a bummer.
Finally, finished the drama. It took me longer than I thought to finish this drama. The beginning and the ending…
I feel you! I had to fast forward through most of the middle until his memory came back, basically I hung in there for Cheng Lei 🥰, who did an amazing job playing 2 different characters. I'm not a fan of SY's acting and fighting style, so wasn't really convinced with her character and didn't really feel the CP vibe either. He was so good with ZL as CP in LOTFG but even better with Lu Yuxiao in MJTY!
Just want to share this. I saw in another comments section that Qin Tian Yu (Sheng Di / Xia Jing Yan) is in The…
He also played Lu Xian, Zhang Ling He's business man friend who fell in love with You Fangyin in Story of Kunning Palace. Quite eye-catching even then, but he is completely at another level here! 💫
Thank you for this great review & analysis!👏👏👏 Even though this drama has ended, there is still much food for thought and still savoring everyone's insights. Really appreciated the themes you presented and analyses of characters, their relationships, and developmental arcs. I'm still affected by Fated Hearts & not yet ready to move on!
I get where Princess Xiyang is coming from and she's just blindly in love with Xia Jingshi. But gosh. I used to…
I'm rewatching now (because I love it!) and am noticing things I didn't before. I think that the princess's behavior makes sense considering how she was raised. Like for ex. in ep 9, there was this exchange between her & the Susha empress before her marriage,
Susha empress: "...always remember, you are Susha's most beloved princess. You have the right and the standing to obtain anything you desire."
FXY: "Mother, can I really get anything I want?" (cough, XJS, cough)
Susha empress: "Of course..."
I agree with the person that commented on how they felt really sorry for the princess because she was sincere about her feelings for XJS, and did everything she could to "get" him. Definitely went about it in a spoiled, entitled, delusional way, but she was determined and strong willed, learning the hard way that you can't force feelings. I think something FSG said later on alluded to this saying something like you can learn about others' pain only if you fall. She went through such heartbreak in Jinxiu which shattered her delusions and made her value her family, basically she grew up. Personally, I think it was a good call for FSG to appoint her as regent for 3 years while he rests and enjoys life with FYX!

It shows how alike the Feng siblings are~!
