That was messed up how ZX took her phone, taking RR's side. If he liked her, wouldn't he give her the benefit of the doubt and let her prove her innocence? Even though afterwards he felt bad and as an apology helped with her thesis, there was never a clear apology. So this kind of behavior is how he rolls...he is not good for our FL.
I remember though in a flashback while talking to Rong Rong after the wedding, they showed him saying something like NXG is not the type to play dirty tricks and not pass on the job interview message just to ruin RR's chances. It seems like he initially defended her but got follow through. Still, he should have gotten to the bottom of things during the confrontation scene if he really liked her. Also jeez, shouldn't her friends all care about the truth and get her side of the story too? That's why the whole crew is toxic, only taking RR's side.

So true, ZX should have acknowledged NXG's apology. Instead, he left her on read, and their interactions for the rest of their final year of college were awkward, full of misunderstanding...NXG was like walking on eggshells when the group was together, she assumed that ZX & Rong Rong were a couple since he didn't deny it.
So she distanced herself after that text, but then there were scenes implying that he may be starting to reciprocate her feelings. Like him helping her turn in her resumes at the job fair (selecting Shanghai companies so that they can be close), defending her initially when RR accused NXG of not passing on the interview message, helping with her thesis as an apology, also staying behind at the bus stop. The grapes discussion really messed him up because she assumed the big grape was Rong Rong but in his mind it's NXG. Given how unclear he was all along, letting everyone assume he is dating RR, of course it's safe for NXG to assume the big grape is RR! It just goes to show he doesn't want to share his feelings with anyone. So people don't know what he's really thinking - another example is how in epi 15 his little brother was surprised to find ZX's book of poetry "Sand and Foam" by Kahlil Gibran (with a grad photo of her & their college friends hidden within the pages). Sand & Foam is such a poignant & lonely literary work, and for ZX to have this and treasuring it reveals a lot about him.
So there were definitely moments where he tried to convey his interest to NXG - even the friend group noticed this (esp RR & Silian). But in the end, he never expressed his feelings clearly. Unlike NXG, who was super direct with him but felt bad about it later (because of cursed pit viper RR lies !).
All this doesn't excuse how he was mean to NXG of course, like with the high heels, saying she's spoiled, leeching off her parents, etc. He can't empathize with her and seems oblivious/indifferent as to how his words & actions' can harm her feelings. So, he is NOT good for her. I'm not sure if it even has to do with the differences in social status, I think it's more to do with how they are, like the essence of their character. They just DON'T fit each other at all. They really don't know each other that well, I mean it was only during her 3rd year winter semester of college when she met him anyway. And he's super laconic & introverted, focused on his studies & fulfilling his family's expectations, so really difficult for anyone to get to know him.

I can never hate this type of character who is doing his best despite his situation and pressure and living with insecurities any human has. Nice to see his little brother worried about him and wanting him to be happy even though in the past he supported the pit viper Rong Rong, so setting up this trip for his bro so ZX & NXG can run into each other and maybe get a chance. ZX definitely a difficult character but seems to care deeply about NXG just doesn't know how to express himself and what to do. He's like an iceberg, one can't fathom what's beneath the surface.

I'm with you, also more interested in complex characters so here I'd like to see how 2ML ZX will evolve and mature (of course, also Xi Guang and how she matures & gets over her first love). His conversation with Rong Rong after the wedding was eye-opening and a huge step for him, I think he'll eventually realize what a jerk he's been to XG and that she deserves better or that they just don't fit each other.

There are all kinds of love stories & couples. If the girl understands where the man is coming from, and somehow brings out the best in him, it could work. Lots of Jdramas & movies are like this - Heroine Shikaku with Yamazaki Kento for example. In that movie the FL likes him so much despite his indecisiveness & cowardice. Not saying that kind of relationship will be smooth sailing all the time obviously. But in different circumstances who knows how Xi Guang & Zhuang Xu would have been like as a couple. Agree with you, I feel sorry for him and despite his flaws like him too. Some of 2ML scenes & flashbacks when he's reflecting on himself are so heart wrenching. Hopefully he can let go of Xi Guang and be less tormented.
I rewatched it lol and can't stop smiling during LYS's friend's wedding scene, especially at the heart-racing moment when Lin Yu Sen gave that smoldering look to Xiguang as he told her the exact time (to the second!) he first met his future wife. Now, ordinarily, I would find that a bit obsessive, but just goes to show how LYS character is.
At this point I can't believe NXG is still not picking up on LYS's obvious signals! When he introduced her to his neurosurgeon mentor as someone he is pursuing, he was so sincere, but she seemed to brush it off, not taking it so seriously, I guess she couldn't imagine that he would like her?
Also ep 10 showcases for me Zhao Jin Mai's incredible acting skills. She emoted so much happiness and joy being with LYS during his friend's wedding, but literally her face fell when she ran into her college friends. So many different kinds of emotions she conveyed and then the sense of relief & appreciation after LYS came back and calling her name. Amazing actress!
and loving how Yu Sen's friends are all so supportive behind the scenes at the wedding! LYS is such a nice guy, completely head over heels for Xi Guang. He is starting to get to know her personality as they spend more time together, will he naturally realize that the girl he thought invited him to view the plum blossoms before his accident isn't her?
also, absolutely hating the Rong Rong character for slandering Xi Guang any moment she gets! 😡 Telling their college friends that XG is studying abroad - for what? What's annoying is that the college friends still blindly believe everything RR says when clearly she dislikes XG and unjustly blamed her for her missed job phone call! Seriously, the whole entire crew should not trust anything that comes out of RR's mouth! 😡😡😡
The contrast between the quality of Yu Sen & Xi Guang's friendships is huge! Just glad XG has some good friends at work now.
