Yes! I was disappointed in The Controllers bc it fell short of the webnovel but I really liked their acting chemistry in that, which is why I started watching this.
The original webnovel is so dark and twisted, with the FL scrambling to use her brains and wit to try to outsmart someone who is genuinely evil and lacking in all morals.
I was ofc expecting them to censor a lot, but they warped the plot so much by focusing on Xiao Wu and adding police element. The drama portrayed the FL a lot weaker/ less intelligent than the webnovel at the start, which is a real shame, and they humanised the ML.
I think you have to consider the drama as a completely separate piece of work to not be hugely disappointed in it, but I want to give props for casting.
The scenes between ML & FL are full of electric chemistry. Just those scenes are 9/10
Well, well it was already obvious ML was sus but interesting plot twist in ep 10! FL can't trust anyone but herself. Even Su Wen, her supposed "friend" doesn't have an ounce of empathy for her.
If this film were a drink it would be whiskey...burns on the way down, leaves you lightheaded, and stings on any cuts.
It's mesmerising, and shot beautifully, but unfortunately the plot didn't quite match up to the stellar acting and cinematography. Still definitely worth watching.
Hm Hanu's secret is similar to Hanui's. I'm guessing it's related to girls. Maybe something like stripper/gigolo…
Interesting...I didn't see anything negative about Daon so far. I liked that when she overheard the men she immediately stepped forward and talked to them, instead of sulking and going away, or gossiping about it behind the men's backs.
With a tighter script, this could have been a true gem.
Unfortunately, this combined plot holes and weak writing, and it's a shame because there is so much wasted potential with the interesting premise and the mysterious start to ep 1.
I'm quick to drop dramas but even I kept watching all the way through, mainly because of the cute chemistry between ML, FL & SFL.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for ML's future roles, in particular, bc he was super charming in this.
The premise was super intriguing, and there was some great acting (from the lawyer, in particular) but it fell short of its true potential. The plot tried to interconnect basically everything and everyone but it's done in a clunky and unnatural way. There was zero subtlety in certain parts, as a viewer you're getting bashed on the head by the moral message. For me, that took away from the experience. I appreciate them trying to tackle some pretty dark topics, but it didn't meet my (admittedly high) expectations.
Underrated. It managed to weave all the strands together neatly in the end, if not perfectly. There were so many heartwarming moments scattered throughout the drama. The child actors were the stars of the show, so after their appearance it was naturally a little bit of a let down, but still a very worthwhile watch. Of all the different kinds of love shown (parental, sibling, friendship, love of learning), the romance aspect was pretty tepid, but Cheese PZ > Strawberry PZ , at least imo.
Massive shoutout to the actor who played the father, he was wonderful, but the acting throughout was great and v believable.

Excited to see more Japanese Nflix originals like this, so we get them subbed as released.
