They just had to pull out pictures of 3 random black children as charity cases? Aren't there charities based in Korea or even the general direction of Asia that these kdramas can pull from? Tiresome and lazy.
I finished this in a much better place than I started and I'm glad I stuck with it to the end. Season 1 will always hold a premium spot in my heart and season 2, while not quite there, was still fun overall.
I wonder if the conversation between Jun Ho and the counselor is foreshadowing the eventual end of the drama. I've always said I don't want Hye Jin to stay at this academy but I also don't think she should go with the white witch. It seems like the counselor is the perfect person to help establish an academy that actually cares about people rather than just grades and attendance figures.
I loved that Hye Jin told the director where to shove his half hearted apology. I think it's so funny how the other tutors believe the director gives Hye Jin all these amazing things in private but he couldn't even be bothered to treat her to one fancy meal when he wanted to apologize. Instead he was trying to use emotional blackmail to make her feel bad on top of everything else. What a jerk. I also don't get what the vice director's beef with Hye Jin is cos she seems to be the one driving the 'get rid of Seo Hye Jin' agenda. I hope she enjoys life with no students once Hye Jin leaves.
I really understand SHJ's hesitation to leave the academy and while I do want her to escape that ridiculous environment, I don't really want her to join the White Witch cos while Hye Jin's current place is terrible to tutors, the witch's academy is just nasty for students. The way they tried to coerce that poor child first with the scholarship, and then trying to neg him into staying really made me dislike them even more.
I'm curious to see what her next step will be though. I also enjoyed the way Si Woo talked about his feelings towards learning Korean even as a top student. I remember feeling that way about chemistry in school and all it took was one teacher to make the subject actually feel comfortable to learn rather than simply necessary. I'm glad that Hye Jin seems to be rediscovering her old self rather than Jun Ho turning into another cutout of an academy tutor. His idealism and enthusiasm are rubbing off on her and chipping away at the formulaic shell she grew into while becoming a top tutor.
Now I can see that Jun Ho is going to be the trigger for Hye Jin to rediscover the joy of teaching for the sake of teaching rather than passing a test. I like that trope.
I felt so uncomfortable watching that jerk from the witch's academy blackmail that child into attending the joint lecture as a spy. I hope it really does backfire and that kid becomes the one that leads all the other students to the joint lecture. That scene alone made me hate the witch's academy. If they're treating children like this instead of just upping their lecturing game, they don't deserve to be in business.
As for Cheong Mi, I still don't understand what her problem is. Hye Jin works there. She's not her mentor or her mother. If she wants to make it then she should come with ideas like Jun Ho or just be a good teacher. I was so irritated watching her whining to Hye Jin cos when did SHJ ask? If she wants SHJ to mentor her, this is certainly not the way to go about it but I'm sure she'll figure it out on her own.
Next week's teaser seems quite extreme but I'm very curious and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I didn't rewatch the first season but this season feels very unserious somehow. It feels like the vibe is off with the performances and I can't really take anything they're doing or going through seriously. It's still funny but now it's like they're winking at the audience every 5 mins and that's just too much.
I think as an academy they have a limited slots for classes overall maybe? Also, as FL said herself - they are…
Okay, that makes sense. The way they kept saying it wasn't fair confused me cos they haven't don't anything unreasonable. It's a strategy to boost enrollment which ought to be a good thing. Why care who's the face of the academy when it's not your family business? Lol.
I found the reactions to their new campaign from the teachers very curious. I can see the new teachers feeling like there's some favoritism going on, but why are the other teachers upset? I don't really understand the dynamics in the academy cos I thought everyone has a school or subject they teach and Hye Jin and Jun Ho aren't taking anyone's classes.
I'm enjoying the academy rivalry but I have no interest in the possibility of colleagues trying to undermine each other out of some misplaced jealousy.
The public school teacher was so annoying to me because she told the students to talk to him and instead of listening to his students and accepting that he made a mistake, he wanted to bully them into silence. You don't set a question with 2 correct answers on an exam and then reject one of the correct answers based on vibes. Seo Hye Jin may have overstepped by going to see him but something needed to be done because that kind of behavior harms students ultimately. Clearly though, the man refuses to learn from his mistakes and will continue to be a problem.
I really enjoyed the first episode, especially the end when she kept trying to convince Jun Ho not to change career paths like that.
I think Yoon Ja Yoo went public because she wanted to protect the company and their research, cuz she knows the…
I felt like the only reason she hadn't gone public already was because the law did not allow it. that's why she told the PM to repeal the law if he wants the research. I know her dream and I support it but only if the cultures don't change the person. I don't think the super powers were planned, but now that they're here, I don't believe anyone should have them. I also get that ML was an emergency case, so I hope she can work out these kinks now that there's a living test subject.
I think both prime minister and his father are physically ill and they both want to live free from this illness
that would make a lot of sense. I wonder if it's genetic, but then the grandfather would have it too. I'm very curious to see how this all plays out, but they could also just be 2 rich jerks who want to live forever.
Thoughts at ep 7. I understand FL's pov about the cultured food and organs, but I feel like until they can make it so that the organs are exactly the same as regular organs, it's irresponsible to try and push this through to the public. Forget living forever, who wants to live in a world where some people have super powers? Human beings are not deserving of such power and it would only lead to extreme chaos. I can live with ML being the 'mutation' and only one with super powers but trying to make this public now is just the mad scientist in FL.
I'm also curious about the prime minister and his father. Did he inherit his father's dream of immortality, or are they unknowingly on parallel paths? There will be a clash ahead if they actually want this just for themselves cos it's obvious his father doesn't mind sacrificing family to achieve his goal.
Finally... They're getting hacked AGAIN?????????? Why isn't security tougher? Why aren't they prepared for this? Why????
I think I missed the detail on why Eunseong so obsessed with Haein? was there story behind?
they never said. it seemed he was fixated on her partly because her family was why his mother left him, and partly because she defended him and was nice to him when they were kids which was something he'd never experienced before.
Yoon Eun Seong was really his mother's son cos both of them lost their entire minds when the object of their obsession slipped out of their reach. For the mother, she never loved anything or anyone as much as money so seeing it all being taken away must be like a living hell. I only wish Eun Seong had been punished for his crimes rather than that quick death, but I'm also glad he was taken out of the equation completely for our leads' peace of mind.
I absolutely adore Hae In and Hyun Woo being happy finally. I kept saying from the start that all I wanted was a miracle cure and a happy ever after, and I got it so I'm satisfied. It was quite dramatic in the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Heck, even Grace and Hae In's mother managed to worm their way onto my good side. Almost all the characters had great development (except the psychos), and that's always what I want in a drama.
By ep 34, much like Chenghuan, I've come to accept her mother as an imperfect being so she bothers me less and less and I can simply overlook her most of the time.
I have to say, I have been impressed with Xu Kai in this drama for the way he delivered the underlying anger and loneliness that haunted Zhiming. The relationship between Zhiming and his father, while only briefly shown was so well portrayed on both sides.
Overall, I think I enjoyed Chenghuan and Zhiming's relationship alot, especially their respect for each other's lives and work. I also enjoyed Chenghuan's decision to approach everything with love and patience first, even though she was always ready to kick ass when needed.
Chenghuan's mother is so unrelenting in her stupidity. She claims she cares about her children but she never listens to them and immediately blows up and blames them when things don't go exactly the way she wanted. She loves pointing out, LOUDLY, how miserable her life has been and how useless their father is. She screeches at the slightest inconvenience. She wants everyone to provide for her like she's entitled to some sort of fealty from the world for simply existing. She is, in a word, EXHAUSTING.
But the worst part about all of it is the way everyone around her just enables her behaviour. She never apologized for trying to force Huan to marry for money, or for slapping Huan when she refused to be sold to that family to appease her mother. As far as she's concerned, she's never done anything wrong in her entire life and everyone is against her, and they just let her keep going. I'm at ep 23 now and there's no hint of this woman learning any lessons which makes me believe that she will inevitably do something much worse in the coming episodes, because the writer has decided that trying to force her daughter into marriage for money and then physically assaulting her daughter for having the gall to refuse is simply not enough. Maybe she needs to actually murder someone before some kind of lesson will seep into her brain?
This drama was such a pleasant surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting and directing were on point and I liked all the characters, even the villains (except NF. NF can kick rocks for eternity). A solid drama for me. Highly recommended.
The grandfather's mistress is hilarious cos how is she mad at her son for chasing a woman above all else, when that's the strategy she used to ruin the family? Karma has a funny way of coming around.
I can feel Hae In's fear and desperation, not knowing if she can trust what's in front of her eyes any more, and not knowing when her body will betray her next. I don't agree with her stubborn wish to keep Hyun Woo far away but I'm sure she'll eventually change her mind on that too.
RIP grandpa. You weren't worth much, but your family actually loved you for some reason, so I guess you did at least one good thing in life. I wonder if the exiled son will return now that the old man is dead. I'm also looking forward to the final stretch we're entering now. They better find a miracle cure for Hae In QUICKLY, and let me have some peace of mind.
Oh, and I'll say this may be the first time I'm not mad at the "they knew each other as children" trope.
