Hidden Truths & A New Alliance

First ImpressionThis episode starts with the ML ready to fight his way through the court for the FL. Thankfully the Headmaster manages to talk some sense into him before he passes out.🪷Episode ThoughtsWhile the ML is unconscious, the Headmaster lets his imagination run wild. Based on what he’s heard about the “butcher’s girl,” he assumes she must be some terrifying woman who bullied the ML into submission.🪷So when he finally meets the FL, he’s clearly surprised. She’s nothing like the fierce image he imagined. The bigger shock comes when he accidentally discovers that the two of them are actually married. The man the emperor himself couldn’t force into marriage… is suddenly married. Naturally the Headmaster begins questioning the ML, wondering if he’s fallen for her because he’s definitely not behaving like himself.🪷We also get more of the ML’s backstory through battlefield memories. We see the moment a hidden arrow struck him while he was fighting. It’s hinted that his own uncle — the Prime Minister — may want him dead. The situation appears connected to a mysterious case from sixteen years ago that somehow ties back to the FL’s parents.🪷The assassins were sent to kill the FL and were searching for something connected to that past. Because of this danger, the safest choice is for them to go into hiding. The FL wants the ML to come with her, but they had previously agreed that he would leave once he had recovered.🪷When the FL hears that a carriage has left and it looks like the ML has gone without saying goodbye, she’s devastated. It’s clear she’s developed real feelings for him. Meanwhile the ML hasn’t actually left and is confused by her reaction — he’s completely clueless about why she’s so upset. In the end, he agrees to go with her for now.🪷As the FL plans to close her shop until things are safe again, she unexpectedly receives an offer she can’t refuse. Manager Yu from a restaurant wants to see her.🪷The surprise? Manager Yu is actually a woman — the same mysterious person we saw earlier in the carriage. She turns out to be sharp, business-savvy, and someone who clearly knows how to handle herself.🪷Their interaction is surprisingly sweet. The FL is honest and straightforward, and after learning that Manager Yu was respected by Mr. Li — who had been close to the FL’s father — she offers to share her family’s secret recipe.🪷Some people might think the FL is naive, but the truth is she simply believes in repaying kindness tenfold.🪷Character Notes🪷Female LeadDirect, sincere, and incredibly loyal. She may seem simple, but she has a strong moral compass and repays kindness generously.🪷Male LeadStill slowly falling for the FL, even if he doesn’t fully realise it yet. His past continues to reveal dangerous family politics tied to him.🪷Headmaster of Luyuan AcademyProvides some comedic relief this episode with his completely incorrect assumptions about the FL.🪷Manager YuA fascinating new character. Smart, confident, and likely to become an important ally.🪷Final ThoughtsEpisode 8 balances humour, mystery, and character development really well. The hints about the sixteen-year-old case tied to the FL’s parents suggest the larger story is just beginning to unfold.🪷Favourite MomentThe Headmaster discovering the ML is married and questioning everything he thought he knew.🪷Trope Check • Hidden identity • Political conspiracy • Marriage confusion • Powerful mentor figure • Strong female ally introduction • Past mystery slowly unfolding

Blood, Battles & Hidden Scars

First ImpressionThis episode wastes no time raising the stakes. The FL is arrested for supposedly murdering her uncle, and it’s obvious from the start that this whole situation is a scheme against her.🪷Episode ThoughtsEpisode 7 begins with the FL being arrested for the murder of her uncle. It’s clearly a setup against her, though we still don’t know exactly who is behind it.🪷While she’s imprisoned, Constable Wang visits her home only to find complete chaos — bodies everywhere and both the ML and her little sister missing. Desperate to find her sister, he allows the FL to go into the mountains to search for them.🪷We’re then thrown straight into a brutal fight scene. The ML is already badly injured but is still fighting off warriors while protecting the FL’s younger sister. Just when it seems like he’s reaching his limit, the FL arrives and jumps straight into the fight.🪷The two of them fight side by side, perfectly in sync as they fend off the attackers together. It’s actually a really endearing moment because it’s clear the ML is falling for her little by little. I doubt he’s ever had a woman charge in and fight beside him to save him before.🪷Once the enemies are defeated, the ML finally collapses from his injuries and the FL ends up carrying him out yet again. She even jokes that other women want a man to support them, while she somehow keeps ending up supporting him instead.🪷While unconscious, the ML dreams of his parents. We see a painful memory where his mother takes her own life, leaving him alone. It’s clear there’s much more to his past and that these memories still haunt him.🪷Later we get a quiet moment between the leads. The FL is caring for the ML but she’s shaken — she’s killed someone and can’t easily brush it aside. Exhausted, she falls asleep beside him, and the ML quietly covers her with his coat while she rests.🪷Just when it seems things might calm down, more trouble arrives. Constable Wang appears with an arrest warrant for the ML and the county magistrate plans to beat a confession out of him.🪷It looks like he’s finished… until the Headmaster of Luyuan Academy arrives just in time. The charges are immediately dropped.🪷Unfortunately the ML collapses again from his injuries, and even as he’s fading his last words are asking for the FL to be taken care of.🪷Favourite MomentThe FL arriving during the fight and the two of them battling the warriors together.🪷Trope Check • False accusation • Strong female lead rescue moment • Fighting side-by-side couple • Injured hero collapse • Traumatic past reveal • Powerful ally arrival • Protective male lead

Open ending finale (my thoughts)

So before I watched this show I read reviews and most were actually good ratings (about 70-80%) but one thing they all agreed on or rather a few did was that the ending wasn’t satisfactory enough, that he went through all that just for everything to end like it did with the “open ending”In most cases I would agree but I think it fit best in the way the show led up until that finale. His goal wasn’t to make anyone die but he had just one person in mind that he wanted to suffer (not die) which in my opinion it was satisfactory what happened to her. Others were just bonus of his revenge so of course it’ll feel like it wasn’t satisfactory but how it ended was satisfactory for me.I’m not a big fan of “open endings” too, cos I start pondering for days and imagining possible scenarios of what happens after, I don’t like that. But in this case the open ending to me was done right cos let’s be honest that ending was an open ending. Especially the relationship between kang pil and Na mo, that for me I can actually see something there down the line (and it’s not wishful thinking) cos her personality shown throughout the show you can tell that she doesn’t really give up on what she wants and she even said it in their convo before he was arrested. That being said I feel like if the show were to have an extra episode I’d bet they’ll become friends as time progresses and it heals both their wounds and that distance she mentioned too before he was arrested will start shorteningHence my statement of why I feel this particular open ending was done right. People found Na MO’s character annoying but I never for once thought that cos despite kang pil using her for his revenge and how heartbroken she was, she still wanted him to leave with her. That’s not someone that’s weak imo. Anyway they had good chemistry (don’t know what people are saying that they didn’t)All in all I’d give it an 8.5/10, so the MDL rating is correct imo. Maybe if it went from 8.0 to 8.3 but nothing more. I know I only talked about the 2 main leads but the others were good in their portrayal as well. Bu cheon was good too, felt pity for him throughout the show and that’s why Na Mo also loved him. You could tell he’s a good guy or at least trying to be good but his mum practically owned his life and suffocated him with her expectations. The ending of his arc was ok as well, him coming back to Cheon A after leaving to apply for the CEO position (which he’ll obviously not win cos kang applied too 😅) but still good end to his arc. Good show and production but the selling point for me is really the OST during each cliffhanger or reveal, it always got me hyped for the next scene or episode. I enjoyed this show and glad I watched it but I’m sad about the romance cos I’m a romance guy and the 2 shows I’ve watched of jang hyuk (wok of love and money flower) he always get the short end of the stick when it comes to the romance with the fl. I would truly like for once to see him get the girl 😔 but in this case it was understandable cos of his revenge. Moral of the story is when trying to get revenge, you can’t expect to get everything you want after cos you destroy lives in the process and at the end something has to give, which is what happened to kang pil. If you made it all the way here I just want to say thank you for reading my long thought process disguised as a review 😅 after watching I just wanted to get this off my chest cos this is how I feel, so thank you.

Excited this season is about actual friends. And Ninew theatre background really shines through. The characters feel like they’re actually putting on a production that they’re passionate about. Excited to see the plot develop

First kiss is always awkward. I never heard people being pro at first. Plus both the leads has done a fantastic job portraying their role. It's like the characters from novel have came alive.PS.. im kinda questing your taste here. Or are you just a hater?
