Alphas, Omegas, Pheromones, Sensual Tension

Immediately I saw the title, Knot, I knew what this one would be about.

Thai omegaverse BL show and the actors carried the story. ML and MC are great actors, always have good sensual chemistry together, so they’re definitely best for this role.

First episode was a good watch and the preview to the next looked promising too.

It’s a good story so far and I hope it keeps the momentum.

Watch it!

Mature Romance, Immature Villains

This is a true enemies-to-lovers tale. This isn't about harsh looks or mean words. The leads were ruthless with one another—they whipped, stabbed, and bit one another. Then, the drama deftly gave the viewer flashbacks that explained how they each came to be so combative and hard.

The Good:

• Kudos to the writer for giving me villains with understandable motivations. They were despicable and did unredeemable acts, but the drama made me mourn the waste of their lives.
• The drama subverted my expectations. The siblings didn't hate one another. The ML and FL were equals in intelligence, ability, and commanding power. They trusted and protected one another. When the FL was faced with an act of noble idiocy, she only considered it briefly, which was a huge relief!
• The princess was a mess, which was unexpected. She careened from one stupid decision to another. I had to remind myself that she'd been coddled and protected all her life. She had no practical experience outside her ivory tower. She'd never felt repercussions from bad choices. Her father and brother had protected and indulged her. Spoiled princess needed a reality check. And she got it.
• And now, a word about amnesia, that frustrating bugaboo of Asian dramas: this has BOTH the ML and FL experiencing memory loss. But wait, it isn't frustrating and meaningless like most plot Band-Aids. The first bout of amnesia with the FL was handled beautifully. She was understandably off kilter and suspicious of everyone, but she handled her condition rationally. Rather than detract from the drama, her memory holes added another layer of suspense. The second bout of amnesia was short-lived, thankfully, and bearable.
• There were beautiful visuals throughout the drama.

The Bad:

• Do we really believe an ill Emperor was left alone for hours?
• If a person destroys a woman's life and aspirations (someone who has proven she is capable of murder), wouldn't it make sense not to allow that dangerous person near? Just sayin'.
• Why do rotating Klieg lights appear every time there is a kissing scene?
• Why does the camera do the cha-cha-cha for dramatic moments? Forward, back, freeze, blur the background—so dramatic.
• The lighting and filters made the second prince look like his face was made of melting ice. I loved his character; he deserved better lighting and makeup.
• As often happens, the drama frayed a bit towards the end.

I added a half star for a capable ML and FL, well-fleshed out villains, and an amnesia story that actually worked.

Such a good BL and ABO series

Even though only the first episode is out, I already love it so much. I could rewatch it without getting tired. I'd say this is a good series if you like ABO/Omegaverse. I always loved ABO/Omegaverse and this just meets my expectations so well. The actors make it look really realistic and the setting for the scenes are really well chosen. Two main characters have strong chemistry which makes it even better. Theres nothing bad to say. I can't wait for the next episode to come out next week. 10/10 would reccommend.

The acting is brilliant

I will start off by saying this may not be a story for everyone. It is both heart, wrenching, and heart warming. The characters are so impacted by their childhood. But I would never call them damaged. They’re just looking for who they were meant to be. And they find it in each other.
Each actor is perfectly cast. And they do a wonderful job.
I would say the only thing that left me a little unsatisfied was the lack of wrapup for some of the secondary characters, but it did not deter from how much I really enjoyed this show.
The three leads are amazing actors. But so are all of the secondaries. The soundtrack was awesome and helped the mood of each scene.
The show does deal with some very serious mental health issues. And I thought it dealt with them in a very realistic and important way.

A very enjoyable drama with a confusing plot

From someone who hadn't read the book, I found the plot somewhat confusing. I didn't quite understand what was going on with Fan Changyu's father and Xie Zhang's family/massacre, but it could've just been me. I still enjoyed the drama for the chemistry between the two leads and especially the Lin'an story arc.

sugar overload in a fantasy workplace setting where everyone is unnaturally nice

To think that of all things I'll binge watch Thai GL shows. I guess this is the consequence of having discovered that in the 8epi GL format they barely have time for the usual lakorn crap & not having anything else lined up to watch.

The plot does not amaze, I'm especially annoyed how they dealt with second FL in the final episode. I dislike the social media confession trope quite a bit, it's bad even compared to other common redemption ark varieties.

Anyway despite not having amazing storytelling the drama is a lot of fun to watch. The FLs (xD) have great chemistry & their bickering is endless fun. The love triangle is bearable, yes the second (or 3rd xD) FL would be incredible annoying in any other format, but thanks to the short runtime she barely had any screen time or chances to annoy us. So I guess I can forgive the show the 3-way hand grab moment it had that one one time.

~ I wrote this review without watching the special episodes.

---

I found it interesting that the production team used artificial intelligence to generate some video footage for at least one video presentation to showcase their concept.

edit: Watched the 2 special episodes. The first one is about closure for the main couple & its a decent extended fluffy happy ending for them, the second on the other hand is about the Tetris couple, but practically it feels like it's all for showing us embedded marketing, still as far as special episodes go these were okay.

WHO? THE WU!!!

this is an exceptionally beautiful series! we have an amazingly skilled cast, smooth directing, beautiful camera shots, really good cgi and a script that doesn't just leave us hanging but explains why things are like that in the world of wu and why are the characters acting like this. to be honest from the very first episode onward not a single scene felt off or staged, everything was portrait with utmost sincerity and deep emotions which makes you feel drawn into this supernatural world where evil spirits absorb the energy of life. it also gives you hope that this silly little group of characters can defeat the demons and feel happy in their lives again. WU was done with so much background research considering we have a second language in here as well and many ritual aspects coming from ancient chinese books. these actors had to learn how to speak mandarin, how to cast spells, how to fight, how to play cards & drums and even how to act like a monkey! everyone put their heart & soul into this series and it really came out shining in just 9 episodes. i dare to say that WU is a masterpiece with the story itself alone but the actors, filming crew and staff just made it even better!
i'm so happy we got to see the reallife niranpete and their undying love and understanding for each other, skynani delivered the part of being soulmates so well i now want to go out into the world and find my own!! so if you're looking for a series that draws you into the story, makes you fall for the characters, screaming at the chemistry, keeps you hooked and makes you bawl your eyes out for what's happening in the episodes then WU is definitely the one I'd recommend!
i'm only nagging a little about the pacing towards the end especially ep 7&8 felt a little rushed to get it all done in just 9 episodes but the ending made it worth it all over again so congratulations to p'wa for bringing wu into this world better than anyone else could've! 👏 to all the viewers and skynanians: may your love & support for skynani protect you from the evil yao around you sadhuuu 🙏

TWINNNNNN

This drama actually hits so well. ML and me actually twins cause I would act the exact same way if I thought I was a psycho killer. I didn't even get any second hand embarrassment it was more of a "we twinning" type of feeling which is kinda jokes LOL. I actually watched this a couple of years back and dont really remember the plot fully but I do rmb the drama being able to handle both the serious and comedic genres very well without ever fully letting go of one which I think a lot of dramas struggle to do so kudos to that. I wish to see more of these types of dramas in the future<3 Its always a pleasure to watch I recommend !

No way bro was an empath

ML is an empath and FML is a go-getter who is optimism in a bottle. So basically girlboss and a malewife, fantastic I love a good malewife. I think we need more feminine boys in Kdramas like that's a lost market I would spend alot of money on. Anyways, the drama itself is sub-par with a very light and fluffy plot, no deep problems that last more than 15 minutes which is great for someone with no time to be emotionally invested. However, a problem I have with this drama is that it empowers empaths too much. Your average empath is an emo tiktoker saying shit like I can feel the pain of Chernobyl victims like baby no you can't, you just empathising rn. This drama portrays empaths as people who can see true emotions even when hidden, like a superpower and not just someone who is very observant. I dont think empaths are real if im being honest (call the woke police idgaf) so when the show pulled up that term I simply could not take the ML or the drama seriously anymore. Hence the bad rating. Overall mid drama with low stakes but alot of love to the actors and actresses

First Impression: Knot

Overall: I'm intrigued. 12 episodes about 45 minutes each. Airing on iQIYI https://www.iq.com/play/knot-episode-1-c3hbjhxtcg?lang=en_us?lang=en_us

Content Warnings: non con touching/attempted assault, fight scenes, murder off screen

What I Liked
- chemistry
- styling
- unique premise
- a character has fighting skills and is not just a damsel in distress

Room For Improvement
- world building dump and character info dumps (text on the screen)
- the end of episode 1 had nonsense/too coincidental (characters happened to be at the same place at the same time in what appears to be a large city), also how rare/secret is the secondary gender that a character has no knowledge of it???
- nervous about the pacing and number of characters

great

I really like the first episode this is what a real BL series looks like. the actors have so much chemistry on screen together and I love the way the storyline is going. just can't wait for the next episodes. I would definitely be watching this entire series. it's perfect. and the flash backs was great nice add to the storyline. the main characters are really interesting to me. the only thing I didn't care about was the bite on the neck scene that should have not been a part of the storyline. what was that scene for other than that it's a great series I have to change it because episode 2 it was a letdown especially when it came today in nc scene it was weird how I could do was laugh or the scene I don't even know if you should call it the NC scene. I did was rolling around and do other weird crap one the bed they only get one more chance to fix it. but at least is serious didn't remove or cut there nc scenes Even if the scenes are weird viewers were able to see the scene

A Massacred Adaptation That Softens the Webtoon’s Hardest Truths

As a massive fan of the original True Education manhwa, which is easily my number one favorite non-Murim series, I went into this live-action adaptation with high hopes. Unfortunately, Teach You a Lesson fails to capture the charisma and raw grit of the source material. In fact, the only saving grace for my mental health is that Gu Sera wasn't in this season to be ruined too.

The adaptation completely destroys Im Hanrim. In the manhwa, Hanrim is an absolute icon: attractive, lethal, confident, and calm. She commands the room in her perfectly fitted black suit, white shirt, and high heels. Here? They gave her a weird hairstyle, dressed her like an ajumma in the beginning, and put her in oversized suits with flat shoes. Worse than the look is her butchered personality and backstory. She went from a dangerous, elite special forces veteran to a standard soldier who was apparently a bullying victim. Instead of a cool, calculated operator, she spends half her time screaming at the top of her lungs in a very grating voice. The writers even added a live-action-exclusive, stereotypical nerdy character named Bong just so Hanrim could tease him. Manhwa Hanrim is classy and respectful, but here, she loses her elite focus over food and fails to stop him from being kidnapped. It’s pathetic writing for someone who is supposed to be highly trained. As for Na Hwajin, the actor lacks the sheer presence and look needed for the role. However, I will give credit where it's due: he actually acts the part well, and his personality feels accurate to the webtoon.

When it comes to the scenario, a lot of it matches the original, but the changes they did make speak volumes. The manhwa is famous for being completely unapologetic about its political stance and tackling systemic issues head-on. Netflix, predictably, sits on the exact opposite side of that aisle. Because of this, the live action feels like it passed through the hands of the very people who vote for policies that cause the problems this series denounces, which makes for a very uncomfortable viewing experience. They diluted the teeth of the original commentary. For instance, I highly doubt that even if we get a Season 2, they will ever dare to adapt the storyline featuring the radical feminist teacher who brainwashes kids into classroom warfare, or show Hwajin exposing how a progressive agenda can create division and monsters.

The one positive thing I can say is that by keeping most of the core cases, the show might still make people realize that modern education has a major crisis. Ironically, the fiction here is actually softer than the truth. The real-world cases these stories are based on didn't have happy endings or a TRPA coming to save the day, reality is much worse.

If you've never read the manhwa, you might find this to be an average, passable action drama. But if you love the original webtoon, it’s going to hurt to watch. Gu Sera is so popular she caught her own spin-off webtoon, and I desperately hope there won't be a Season 2 because I cannot bear to watch them massacre her the way they did Hanrim.

MASTERPIECE.

I've never ever written a review in my entire life but i want to do this as a way of expressing my love towards this series as well as contribute to the success of this masterpiece to the best of my abilities.

In a single word i could describe this series as a simple "masterpiece". It is definitely one of the best things I've ever spend my time on. Everything from first minute of the first episode to the last minute of the last episode was crafted to perfection.

I cannot put into words how brilliantly Sky and Nani acted? no- LIVED in the show. The top tier acting and way of portraying the deep and complex characters of Pete and Niran should be highly appreciated. Everyone else in the cast did their part wonderfully- Godji, Palang, Great, Singha, Ken, Juno, Titan and honourable mention to Krist. All of them together made this series a perfect display of "limitless talent".

The story, direction, quality of production, cinematography, VFX, music, editing, and every other element was totally upto mark, kudos to the brilliant team.

I personally enjoyed getting introduced to the various mythological concepts and beliefs. The series stayed true to its genre, especially the brilliantly choreographed fight scenes and interesting story telling methods.

Now to one of the most important parts- SkyNani genre wins as always. Their way of not depriving us of the intimacy and love even while not being a romantic series is the best thing I've ever witnessed. When i first decided to watch it, i was sure I'd be disappointed by the lack of romance- but nevertheless wanted to watch for the mythological aspect. As much as the initial reason being ONE of the best thing about the show- to my own surprise, I was giggling and kicking my feet every second of SkyNani on my screen, and as someone who was not familiar with the SkyNani magic, i was highly impressed and genuinely started questioning my sanity.

To conclude i would like to point out some of my favourite things. The found family trope, the shift of each character from their initial versions to a much better version of themselves, the subtle and well timed incorporation of other genres like comedy, (b)romance, horror (?), thriller etc, individual depth of each character, the layers of each character written and performed beautifully, the sound effects and background music, and everything else that contributed to the masterpiece called "WU".

Once again huge appreciation to the entire team, cast and crew for giving us this wonderful project and lots of love from me for giving me one of the best watching experiences ever.
-With love, Amii.
