I Dropped It

I see a lot of people in the comments so eager to defend their favs they can't even tolerate people not enjoying this.
So let me tell you right now before you use your predetermined defense to ignore my points that I LOVE a good mystery. I loved the 1st half of DFF, all the Knives Out films, am thoroughly enjoying GBYFD and also sorta intrigued by DYTD; I watch murder mysteries and documentaries all the time, one of my all time favourite series is The Haunting (both Hill House and Bly Manor).
The problem with Melody of Secrets? The mystery simply hasn't proven itself to be good.
Nor did anything else, really.
The chemistry is non-existing, the plot doesn't move one bit, the characters barely even work at their jobs. They keep trynna sell you confusion but what they're selling you is actually frustration because nothing happens, nothing changes, nothing moves.
And then after this lukewarm still water 3 episodes they try to get you with a predictable plot twist and a hand full of nothing. How am I supposed to say it's good? Honestly? It sucks. That's it. It just sucks.

Relatable and swoon-worthy

It was just my type of drama. Perfect slowburn with sizzling chemistry and believable characters. I simply love it when the whole drama doesn't force the main leads together as if these two characters are the whole reason for its existence. It gave them a proper time and let it brew as slowly as possible to have a perfect fragrance.
There were many topics that were touched by the story that one could relate with. Rat race for careers, sycophant colleagues, weath pressure and of course most innate one- jealousy. They also touched the point how usually rich kids are perceived by the world. Some simply hate them for being rich (as if anybody has a choice in it), others see them lazy/unworthy of competition because " they are born with silver spoon so they are good for nothing". It is good to see this perspective as well.
(I wonder if it is going to be with the recent Chinese censorship of showcasing less delusional world to its netizen which creates unrealistic standards where one has to be extremely rich to be happy mindset which is ruining the society and I also think it is about time.) This show has definitely given me many impactful scenes so far. After watching numerous dramas, there comes a point when you can easily anticipate a scene especially, in Cdramas, like what is going to happen next and the fact that in this one they just made it look so normal nothing like all those cliched scenes but something that could or would happen in reality, that is something that made me love this drama even more. As for other characters, I am just not gonna hate the SML he had his reasons and a definite character arc, but the actor was so good in arising conflicting feelings in viewers. Similarly the other female characters. If you hate a character, definitely they are doing a fine job in acting. I loved all the cast (I was really hoping for a drama that could bring Song Wei Long out of the shadows. He was never able to properly convince me with his acting before but this one is definitely his best for me, acting wise). What can I say more, dialogues, cinematography and the music...so dreamy. You will definitely fall in love with this drama for its simplicity and genuine character arcs. The only nitpick would be it's length. It could do just fine with less episodes.

Romance Without Warmth: A Study in Misunderstandings and Emotional Abuse

It has been a month since I finished this drama, and honestly, I thought I had already moved on. But after accidentally coming across a short clip today, all the frustration came rushing back, and I felt the urge to write this out finally. 😮‍💨

When I first started watching, I had genuinely high expectations. I personally like Allen Ren, and I was also interested in Xiao Ran as a character. I really wanted this drama to be good. Unfortunately, what I got instead was pure chaos. I still cannot understand how a professional scriptwriter could create a story that is this illogical and exhausting. The entire plot survives on endless misunderstandings, forced conflicts, and emotional torture. This is not love. There is no warmth, no growth, no sense of destiny or emotional depth. Everything that makes a romance meaningful is completely missing. 💔

What made it worse is that the drama is non-stop and stressful. There are no calm moments, no sweet pauses, no breathing space for the audience. From beginning to end, it feels like emotional punishment. The main couple spends more than half of the story fighting. The female lead constantly hates and misunderstands the male lead, and when you think things might improve, the suffering only intensifies. By the second half, watching it felt more like endurance than enjoyment. 😵‍💫

Visually, the drama strangely reminded me of early-2000s productions. The videography, background design, and overall texture felt outdated, almost like a shelved drama finally pushed out without care. The only reason this drama remains watchable at all is because of the actors. They carried the entire show on their shoulders. Without them, there would be absolutely nothing left to defend.

From the female lead’s perspective, the story is especially disturbing. She is surrounded by betrayal from every direction — a corrupted father who uses her as a tool, a trusted master who turns out to be a villain, and a so-called political marriage that traps her like a bird in a gilded cage. Her world is carefully constructed to deceive and control her. In such circumstances, how is she supposed to feel trust or safety toward a man who threatens her entire clan to force marriage? Expecting her to immediately submit emotionally is not romance — it is cruelty. 🕊️

What angers me most is how some viewers attack the female lead while standing in a god-like perspective, blaming her for not being “obedient enough” or “grateful enough.” Just because she refuses to place romantic love above her family’s survival, she is labelled unlikable. Meanwhile, the same people romanticise the male lead’s actions and even use female side characters to step on the heroine. That double standard is exhausting and unfair. 😤

The irony is painful. Even male-oriented writers have managed to write complex, conflicted female characters with dignity and humanity. Yet here, a female-oriented writer openly suggests that “loving a woman means giving her a good husband.” That mindset is outdated, insulting, and deeply regressive. Loving a woman means giving her autonomy, safety, power, financial independence, emotional respect, and a full sense of self — not handing her a man and calling it a reward. 🚫👑

Now, credit where it is due: Allen Ren’s acting is the one true highlight. His eye acting is exceptional. In moments of confrontation, his restrained expressions — the pain, the hesitation, the unspoken truth — add layers that the script completely fails to provide. He portrays a man who uses coldness as armor and hides tenderness beneath control and silence. Even his jealousy remains restrained and dignified. Through subtle micro-expressions alone, he brings depth to a character that would otherwise be painfully flat. 🎭✨

Despite some performance controversies, Allen Ren undeniably carries his role with skill and professionalism. He once again proves his strength in historical dramas and succeeds in making a deeply flawed character emotionally compelling — something the writing itself never manages to achieve.

So let me be clear: this drama is bad. Very bad.
The “tyrannical emperor falls in love with me” trope feels ancient and lazy. The styling is inconsistent and often unattractive. The dialogue is childish and embarrassing. The sets look fake, the CGI is poor, and the overall production quality is shockingly low. Even the opening song is unbearable. 🚫🎬

I do not recommend this drama to anyone. Not for romance, not for plot, not for emotional satisfaction. Watching it feels like stress disguised as entertainment. Save your time, save your emotions, and do yourself a favour.

An amazing plot and cast however completely rushed

it had potential however the rushed storyline completely destroyed it for me... The main lead obviously has amazing power once activated through money but the lawyer and bunmi really had no character development nor good build up.....it felt as if the only good superpower was of sang-ung. I DEFINITELY WANTED MORE OF SANG-UNG AND MIN SUK.....the drama needed to be at least 12 episodes....to show more affection b/w the main leads. The climax threw me off like when sang-ung sacrificed himself it felt as if the writer suddenly remembered oh! I have the going back in time superpower aswell..

Yeah they named the drama right "Cheesy Plot"

I watched this since they are not less than 2 hours and i dare to say it's don't like because it feels they are using formula plot (kidnapping). I like both of actors acting and i put respect to Lin Rui Xue (+Zhang Bei Xi) for act so professional for playing an intimate scene.

There is many steamy kissing scene but unfortunately the chemistry wasn't exist it only full with lust and i don't think ML ever love FL so did FL. Nothing memorable in this drama.

Feel lackluster drama for both actors

Not therapeutic at all…

Why would Minato get so angry at Shizuma for not remembering their one drunken night together? Not remembering is fairly common and certainly not unforgivable, so it makes no sense for Minato to go to such lengths to make Shizuma fall in love just to break his heart over something so trivial.

Don’t even get me started on the lead actors' nonexistent chemistry. The first thirty seconds were enough for me to want to drop the drama, but I stayed for Minato’s pretty face, hoping it would improve. It didn't. Instead, it became more ridiculous as it progressed.

I understand why Minato is afraid of falling in love, and I certainly wouldn't entrust my heart to a guy who just got out of a relationship, is obviously still hung up on his ex, and wasn't even into guys until he met me. Honestly, I have zero sympathy for Shizuma.

Even more insane was the second couple, who managed to have even less chemistry than the main leads. How is that even possible?

Overall, this drama was not enjoyable at all.

Listening Before It’s Too Late

*A Place Called Silence* is a heavy, unsettling film that stays with you long after it ends. The story explores bullying not as a single cruel act, but as a slow, suffocating pressure that seeps into everyday life. Told through quiet moments and restrained tension, the film asks how far silence can stretch before it breaks.

The actress delivers a powerful performance built on restraint. Her expressions—fear, guilt, fury, and love—feel painfully real, especially from a mother’s point of view. She embodies a parent torn between protecting her child and navigating a system that often looks away.

From a mom’s perspective, this film is a warning and a call to attention. It suggests that dealing with bullying starts with noticing the small changes, listening without judgment, and refusing to dismiss pain as “just a phase.” Silence may feel safer, but the film reminds us that speaking up—early and firmly—can be an act of protection and love.

Another case of Male lead lacks of comedic skill and add the scumbag point

Zhao Caizi play the same character as her drama with Wen Yu. When the first drama problem is ML lack of comedic skill, in here the problem on this drama are more, ML also have same problem as Wen Yu but adds he was more scumbag and his character trait are unlikeable. The chemistry between Zhao Caixi and Li Hao is zero

On side note, I enjoyed the FL Sister in Law acting and her fashion are so lovely. I like the second couple story even they are not are shown. It was to make me sane from ML lack of character development.

If you are Zhao Caizi fans you better watch her same theme drama with Wen Yu instead.

A Story That Reminded Me to Keep Going

*The Dumpling Queen* is a heartfelt film based on a true story, following an immigrant woman’s journey from street vendor to business icon. Set between 1977 and 2000, the story captures resilience, motherhood, and quiet ambition, told through bowls of handmade dumplings and years of hard work.

The actress delivers a deeply grounded performance—never loud, never showy, but emotionally precise. You feel her exhaustion, her stubborn hope, and her love for her children in every scene. Supporting characters add warmth and realism, making the struggles feel lived-in rather than dramatized.

Visually, the film leans into warm, slightly muted tones that perfectly reflect the era. From cramped kitchens to growing storefronts, the atmosphere carries the texture of late-70s grit evolving into 90s confidence. There’s a nostalgic rhythm to the pacing—unhurried, observant, and sincere.

*The Dumpling Queen* isn’t just about success; it’s about endurance, dignity, and the quiet power of starting small and continuing anyway.

No Way Out: A Portrait of Suffocation

A gripping commentary on the hardships and cruelty many women endure. As You Stood By delivers a powerful depiction of patriarchal relations that suffocate and render life a space that routinely subjugates, suppresses, and systematically denies traumatized voices any escape from the repetitiveness of their hell-like experiences.

While the story is not ground-breaking, its realistic portrayal, grounded in restrained and convincing performances, creates heightened awareness. The drama is not an easy watch, particularly in the first five episodes. Because the acting is executed remarkably well, the viewer empathizes deeply with the character suffering from domestic violence. One feels the anxiety, fragility, hopelessness, and claustrophobia she experiences. Lee You-mi masters her role by credibly conveying this anxiety-ridden state, while the surrounding cast complements her performance and forms a strong ensemble.

What further intensifies the discomfort and grittiness of the drama is the excellent cinematography, which understands how to visualize psychological tension and emphasize emotional states.

The length of the drama is largely well handled. However, the doppelgänger storyline fails to reach the quality established by the earlier episodes. Although the trope of doubles is an intriguing narrative element, it remains underdeveloped and at times convenient.

One aspect that ultimately feels unrewarding is the repeated emphasis on combat training. These scenes suggest Eun-so’s growing understanding of self-defense, yet in moments where such skills would be necessary, she never overcomes a male attacker. The drama misses a strong opportunity to grant her a redeeming scene in which she decisively confronts the violence directed at her.

Overall, the drama is deeply unsettling. It offers a relevant commentary on domestic violence, control, and surveillance, issues that remain widespread and well documented across the world.

Plot is not interesting - Review up to 20

This is a review up to eps 20. I will be dropping the drama because the story is not interesting to me. Please don't comment/attack my review because this review is not attacking you, "your actors," or your values. It's just about how I feel about the story up to 20.

I like both actors. Up to episode 8, the drama was great.
However, the script can't hold my interest. The love story is not compelling, especially when the ML disappeared for awhile. Then he lost his power. The SML seems to have equal screen time.

I normally like TSY. Here, when she was in the Princess role, she looks beautiful. However, in the XY role, her hair always looks unkempt. I love her when she was in Under the Power. She was really funny and cute there. I think it's the script.

The resolution of the Sui Meng Xian Jun [Dreamshard immortal] story doesn't make sense.

Everything is flat

Ok I watch this because of Zuo Ming. I like the beginning of the scene even there is no intimate scene it feels so aesthetic pleasure to see the shot. Wang Xiaoyi and Zuo Ming unfortunately didn't convince me as couple even as dynamic duo it was below of my standard. The ending is meh and everything is so flat even the conflict are too plain for my liking.

Plot wise is generic about FL who was ML secretary hears ML was engaged and want to stop work with him. ML didn't realize he was in love with her.

Deserve to watch only once.

Not fans of the plot but the kisses was too hot

I watched it because of Tian Tian Yi and Jin Jia Yu as always play this kind of scumbag male lead. For the plot, i don't like it because there is missing point about ML father mistress and ML father backstory. FL was not naive, she is full schemer but ML was actually trapped in his own plan.

The Plot is about FL who are adopted by ML as her niece since her face remind him of her mother mistress and want her to dissapear. FL knew ML was disguised with her so she provoked him more by being naughty student and flirt with other men.

The beginning of kiss was steamy, Jin Jia Yu knows how to kiss without viewer getting disguised. Tian Tian Yi balance the wilderness of Jin Jia Yu and there is chemistry between them. This is one of my reason to watch this.

Maybe if you like pseudo uncle-niece romantic relationship, you might enjoy this.

This is for masochist enjoyer.

I watched it because of Bai Yan, her acting as damsel in distress female character are fine. I don't know what's on writer's mind when they make everyone understand mute character without miscommunication. Jin Jia Yu are perfect choice for scumbag male lead character, he delivered the character well. I don't like Male Lead characterization and i was close to drop this drama and decide to watch it with 2.5 x fast.

Avoid it if you are want to be sane person.
