Really deserves the high rating! A MUST WATCH

Found this gem a bit late. I was anticipating that this was going to be a slow-burn romance with the typical sharing houses and office romance, but it was more than that and it was surprising for a drama in thia genre!

In sum, this drama is about second chances, finding true love and after failures and complications of life.

Story:
Two very different boy and girl meet under the weirdest circumstances. Life and love starts for them only to be crashed at some point, yet they mature and develop quite decently.

Acting:
It was my first time seeing CXX in a drama. I must say i'm impressed. He played an introvert who seemed cold and aloof quite well. His character development was also palpable. I dare say he is a heartthrob and did his part well. His chemistry with the FL is top pier imo.

It was my second drama witg LYX. Her acting in LLC was great and i think she is so warm and friendly that her characters always show that. her chemistry with CXX was so beautiful and real that we rarely get to see such things in dramas.

writing:
It wasn't without faults as there were some unnessary plots or loopholes but the character development was truly great, which is rare in Cdramas. This drama flowed like a river and the waves hit some stones along the way but in the end, it found its way.

Music:
I don't know where to begin but this drama has ONE of the most beautiful tracks i have ever heard in Cdramas. Basically Cdramas rarely care about music and bgm, but in this one, well they did!

Production:
Well this is not a fantasy drama so there wasn't CGI or whatever( except for the car scenes obviously) but it was shot beautifully. the scenes at the RongCheng VR club were also shot well.

Overall, A MUST watch. The romance is beautifull. the KISS SCENES are AMAZING!

Underwhelming, Lacked Substance

i like the character of the female lead, Sena. She's smart, poised and elegant but her character was pulled down by the childish outburst and over the top behaviour of her male lead, Laik that irritated me to no end.

The story lacked substance. The male lead was tried by public opinion instead of focusing on the process of investigating and coming out with clear evidence and the push and pull way the case was handled. I liked the way Se Na argued the case but hers was drowned out by all the unnecessary side show of Laik who, more often than not, did not listen to her.

The romance was the most frustrating. Both Sena and Laik were grown up adults and yet, they approached their romance like a couple of teen-agers just out of puberty. This is one of the weaknesses of Kdramas in that, as modern as the country is, their view of how romance is conducted is still stuck in the 1950s. Of course there are kdrama exceptions like My Name is Kim Sam Soon that, to this day, is till one of my favorites.

When a Promising Flame Fades Too Quickly

This drama began like a candle lit in a dark room .. intriguing , full of potential, promising.
The Opening carefully laid the groundwork, inviting viewers into a world of moral conflict, emotional wounds, and unspoken truths. Unfortunately by the time the last 3 episodes arrived that candle had burned unevenly .. leaving more smoke than warmth.

The story’s greatest weakness lies in its ending. What started as a tightly woven narrative slowly unraveled, as if the writers rushed to close doors they had spent episodes carefully opening. Half of episode 10 , episode 11 and episode 12 in particular felt unnecessary. Instead of deepening the impact, it felt more diluted , making the finale feel stretched for nothing.

To begin with, one of the most disappointing missed oppotunities was Se Na's father murder case This storyline held immense emotional and thematic importance, yet it was confined to a single episode. Driven by her father’s wrongful accusation, she became a lawyer to uncover the truth, expose those responsible, and declare his innocence. The issue deserved deeper exploration, especially considering how central it was to Se-na’s internal conflict and sense of justice. Compressing such a heavy subject into one episode made it feel incomplete.

Byeong-gyun’s character arc suffered a similar fate. His sudden shift toward the “right path” felt unrealistic and unearned. A lifetime of manipulation, moral corruption, and selfish choices cannot be undone by a few moments of persuasion.

The romance, too, felt misplaced. Introduced late in the drama, mostly around episode 10, it lacked development and emotional depth. Rather than enriching the narrative, it felt like an obligation .. something added because dramas are expected to have romance. Idol i was strongest when it focused on broken dreams, friendship, and survival within a cruel industry. The romantic subplot was unnecessary and, ultimately, forgettable.
Another narrative inconsistency appears in Ra-ik’s storyline. As the first and primary suspect in a murder case facing the very real possibility of life imprisonment ... his sudden emotional availability feels deeply unrealistic. The drama asks viewers to believe that someone standing on the edge of losing everything could find the time and emotional space to fall in love. Instead of tension, fear, or psychological pressure, this arc shifts toward romance, weakening the gravity of his situation and breaking the story’s internal logic.

Ra-ik’s mother is another example of underused potential. Her character felt largely unnecessary, not because she lacked importance, but because the drama failed to give her a meaningful role. She could have been used to deepen Ra-ik’s internal conflict, explain more his emotional distance, or enrich the narrative with generational pressure and unresolved trauma. Instead, she existed on the sidelines, adding little to the plot when she could have been a powerful emotional anchor.

I could go on and dive much deeper into analyzing Idol i ,but I’ll stop here and focus only on what frustrated me the most. Funny enough, when I first started the drama, I rated it an 8. However, when i decided to write a review , that score slowly fell apart scene by scene, until it barely landed at 4.5 stars. Sometimes, reflection is more honest than first impressions, and unfortunately, Idol i did not survive that second look.

A lovely crossover for sure!!!!

What a good crossover BL series. Its refreshing. I love the premise of Peach (Jimmy) being a friend a long time ago with Yoon Oh (Choi) and shit happened revealing later that Yoon died before the two could meet up. The ghost of Yoon is stuck here for a long-standing reeentment he had with his mother which prevents him from moving on. This was revealed by Mario (Tommy), another ghost who was stuck here as well. I find it weird that Tommy became just a supporting role. U know after being together with Jimmy in other series titles.
The series just unfold things further. The ultimate ending brough tears into my eyes. Yoon Oh faded away as Peach had him one last time. He's Coming to Me sibling especially bcuz they tackle both themes here, complicated family dynamics and death.

I commend the chemistry though even if it's not Tommy with Jimmy. The cinematography was also lovely. I love this. Not a fave but sure as hell well produced.

Least favorite season

For me this was the least favorite season. First of all i only knew Pung and Porsche as actors and i don't like Porsche as an actor.
Pung is a good actor and i was sad to see that he took a step back from Copper to give him a chance with Fifa. Pung and Copper had so much more chemistry!

The only end coupe that gave me real chemistry were Patji and Ryunjinn. They are still so young, i think they will have a promising future together.

It's nice to see how starting actors are in real life, that gives a much better point of reverence in how well they are acting, so that is why i like this show. I don't know why, but this season didn't feel as good as the other two did.

Nothing feels messy or overcrowded—just a well-built ensemble driving a compelling sapphic narrative.


Our only caveat? With just eight episodes of very strong material, a few moments felt slightly rushed, but never enough to pull us out of the story.

The plot is unlike most mini C-dramas I have watched, and it kept me completely hooked from start to finish. It follows an archaeologist who time-travels and becomes a royal concubine, while the male lead has the fascinating ability to enter people’s dreams. I loved that the writers never forgot she was an archaeologist. Watching her excitement as she saw and handled real ancient artifacts, including the king himself, made the story feel grounded and unique. The twists were constant, and I was often surprised, as every guess I made about where the story was going turned out to be wrong. The inclusion of historical characters with creative backstories was a clever touch that added depth to the drama and allowed the character development to feel fresh and engaging.

Ye Ji Nan, the female lead, was a joy to watch. She is smart, sensible, and resourceful, and seeing her navigate both the modern world and the royal palace with her knowledge of history was extremely satisfying. The actor portrayed her convincingly in both eras, and I really enjoyed watching her growth and how she handled the challenges thrown at her.

The male lead, Feng Zhi Li, is a complex and compelling character. He transitions seamlessly from a vicious emperor to a filial son, a loving husband, and even to the innocence of a young boy. The actor expressed all these different facets perfectly, making his performance truly captivating.

Princess Zhi Fan, the supporting female lead, was also impressive. She is smart, capable, and strong, and her development throughout the story was satisfying to watch. The actress portrayed her character with charm and depth, and she was a delight alongside the main couple.

The romance in this drama was handled beautifully. While there were several kisses, the moments I enjoyed most were the tender and affectionate interactions between the leads. Their relationship felt tested at times, especially due to the male lead’s strict and severe actions, but that only made their emotional bond feel more real and earned. It was also fun to watch Ye Ji Nan realize that she could seize the opportunity to develop a romantic relationship with the king while navigating the challenges of being a royal concubine. The story never felt boring, and even with several twists and heavy plot points, there were moments of humor that lightened the mood perfectly.

The costumes were stunning, particularly the royal concubine robes, and the way the historical settings were filmed made the world feel authentic and immersive. The ending was satisfying and happy, even though the princess’s first love did not work out, she still found her happiness. “My heart is like water and water wears down stone.” This basically sums up The Prisoner of Beauty. It follows the story of a clever girl named Xiaoqiao or affectionally called, Manman, as she wades through the turbulent waters of an arranged marriage with a man who has held a long-standing and deep-seated grudge against her family. The Weis and the Qiaos were once allies, their patriarchs once the fastest of friends and co-visionaries who dared to build a canal that would benefit the people of their region. But this seemingly steadfast alliance was broken when the Qiaos failed to honor it, resulting in the deaths of three generations of Wei men and countless others. The only survivor of this massacre was a young Wei Shao, who swore vengeance upon those responsible, including the Qiaos for not coming to their aid when they needed it the most.

Fast forward some 14 years later, Wei Shao had grown into a fearsome warrior and highly intelligent leader of the Wei clan. In order to save themselves from his rage and warmongering, the Qiaos come into an agreement with the Wei matriarch to marry their eldest daughter to the lord of Wei. But destiny has other plans, or to be more accurate, Manman decides to change her own fate. It was supposed to be her cousin, Daqiao, who was intended to be Wei Shao's betrothed. The drama centers around her developing relationship with Wei Shao and their push and pull slowburn romance, and how she holds her own, expertly foiling plots against her and dealing with death threats, mockery, and open hatred towards her and her clan.

From the first episode, I was immediately pulled in by Manman's character. This is not your typical idol drama female lead. She is calm, collected, and incredibly intelligent. She schemes and manipulates, but never for her own selfish gains, rather for those she cares about the most. Even when she is trying to obtain the upperhand in her battle of wits against Wei Shao, she shows great compassion for him, and when she chooses to lend him her aid, she is always sincere, never expecting anything in return. Wei Shao, for his part, may be cold and aggressive on the outside, but he's always just and treats her with respect, something that Manman grows to appreciate. Eventually, their mutual distrust and hatred towards one another turn to mutual fondness and love. That is the core of this drama.

Both Liu Yuning and Song Zuer play these characters like nobody's business. You feel their every heartache, you know they mean every word, and you shed a tear or two for them. I'm a Yuning fan so I may be biased, but he is absolutely excellent here! I was especially impressed when he acted in a tearful and tense scene opposite Liu Duan Duan, who is known to be a tremendous character actor and another one of my favorites, and yet he held his own without being overshadowed by the latter. I so love that scene!

But perhaps my favorite characters are the Four Generals of Wei, the comedic relief boys, and Wei Shao's most trusted brothers in arms. They were hilarious! They made me laugh and cry. Kudos to the actors who played them. The rest of the cast impressed me as well, particularly the villains. Su Ehuang, played by Wei Wuxian's adopted sister, made me so irritated I couldn't help but give her props for her acting chops. I don't remember the actress' name but I will always associate her with her The Untamed character.

I also have to tip my hat towards the production team. The set designs, costumes, and overall production value of this drama is S-tier level. It didn't feel like an idol drama at all. The subdued color grading and saturated colors of the costumes give it a more somber and serious look, which are not common in these types of dramas. The tone also feels more grounded and gritty with the battle scenes depicting the more brutal nature of war. If China didn't have stringent censorship policies, it might've rivaled the violence in Game of Thrones. The music helps set the tone of the series, sounding dark and frightening in tension-filled scenes and whimsical when it takes a breather with a little bit of comedy.

All in all, this was a very solid watch, an engaging historical romance with strong performances from the cast, a lovable main couple, and endearing supporting characters. My only complaint is that there were parts where it dragged a little. The drama and its pacing could've been better if it had been shorter. Still, I happily give this a 9.5 out of 10.

They lost the thread of the story

It wasn't bad but not good either. I like that it was a call out against some toxic behaviour from k-pop fans. But I feel they didn't go as far as this topic needed. And sorry but even this representation of idol's fan was very cringe.

We knew from the start they will end up together but I was somehow uncomfortable at some point with this idea. Because it wasn't a good moral : be a fangirl and maybe you'll end up with your favourite idol one day ? No the story shouldn't lean toward this, because you throw away what you were criticising at first.

This man was kinda traumatised by this idol's life but he still ended up with a fan of his ? Even if they tried to wrap it up nicely with a connection from childhood, it was still not right for me.
Maybe making a true friendship grew instead of romantic relationship would've been a better idea. But that's too much to ask to k-dramas writers.

The mysterious part of this drama was a fail, they build up some suspense to just dump the truth in one drop : very anticlimactic. I feel this poor guy died for nothing.

How can you rate perfection?

Things I adored

1 The FL. I thought I'd never like anyone more than Bai Lu. Well, it happened. I think Lu Yu Xiao became my favorite actress ever. Beautiful, sweet, funny, talented. I never liked any actress the way I liked her in Love Between Lines. She nailed every second she was in. The way she laughed, the way she cried, the way she teased, the way she kissed, it was a master class of acting. Her character was one of the best I've ever seen as well. Smart, dedicated, great friend, great daughter, the best girlfriend ever. I wish I could explain how much I loved her but it's impossible. I wish her a long and fulfilling career. She made me cry and laugh and swoon and I had some wonderful moments watching her in LBL. Absolute perfection. I think she is the best rom com heroine ever and i doubt anyone surpass her.

2 The whole series. Were they some things I didn't adore? Definitely. But when everything makes your heart flutter or sink and makes you feel alive and so lucky to see this drama everything is perfect. The premise was wonderful, the pace was great, the plot was compelling. Only details bothered me.

3 The chemistry between the leads. So wonderful to watch. Every smile between them, every hug, every word was perfection. I didn't expect that when I started it and I made it last as much as I could, but in the end I gave in and watched the last episodes only to feel sad and empty knowing I can't recapture the joy this drama brought me. When you think that I don't even find the ML that handsome and I've seen other dramas of him I didn't like, you can imagine how good this one is to make me love him as well.

4 The ML. I don't find him that handsome, and I definitely didn't like his clothes this time. But his acting was so subtle, so perfect that now he is on my favorite actors list. He was the perfect boyfriend, he had crazy chemistry with Lu Yu Xiao and it felt like they didn't act. They felt like a real couple.

5 The jealousy scenes. Both nailed them and they were so fun to watch. I would love a compilation of them just to rewatch them again and again.

6 The kisses. They were great. Finally some real kiss scenes that were believable and so rewarding. Perfection again.

7 Their relationship. Once it happened they were there for each other in such a way that you can only fall in love with them and want them to be happy.

8 The relationship of the FL with her parents. It reminded me of my family and I felt for her father, her mother and the FL. I loved how close they were and how they were ready to listen to each other and forgive and support. The way my family is and the way I wish everyone were with their family.

9 The virtual setting. I loved it. So fun and original to see them in the virtual game. Was it perfect? Of course not but I wanted to ha fun. I didn't care about the credibility of this part. It was the best start of a romance ever.

10 I loved the relationship between the FL and her friend. They were there for each other without any judgment and this is another strong appeal of the drama.

Things I loved

1 The people who worked at Dynamic studio. They weren't developed enough but it was a healthy and creative environment which was refreshing and healing to watch after watching so many dramas with awful, toxic work places.

2 The best friend of the ML. He wasn't developed enough ether but he seemed a genuinely good guy and although we didn't see him with the FL's best friend we know that's where it headed and why not? I have some reservations because to be honest I felt like he's not appreciated enough but I loved him and I would like for him to find happiness.

3 The way the FL dressed. There ere a few outfits I didn't love but nothing I truly disliked. Most were very stylish and elegant and suited her. Well, she's gorgeous so it helps, but still. Cute outfits that suited her personality.

Things I disliked

1 The shoes the FL wore. most were ugly and shoes meant for old people. I'm not sure why she wore these.

2 The ML's clothes. I've seen many comment about how well he was dressed but honestly I thought exactly the opposite. The suits weren't flattering and the trousers same thing. They didn't make him look better but worse. None of his clothes were fitting. Let's be real, the 2ML was much more elegant.

3 The way they deal with the best friend and the husband. We didn't have time and enough information to side with her a 100%. I'm in no way in support of any kind of cheating, but I needed him to explain more. I needed her to take some time to think before making such a drastic decision. Nothing was really explained and until the "cheating" we saw some issues but not enough to make me understand her decision. That said, I'm all for her asking for a divorce. At that point, trust was lost and they could never be together and happy. Still, I wish they took the time to make us feel what both went through. After all they married because they loved each other. It should count for a few weeks of grief. Here we had the impression that from evening to morning everything was dealt.

4 The mother of the ML. I can't hate her, she went through a horrible moment and made a wrong decision, but she was a weak woman and I hate weak women in dramas. The actress wasn't great either. More like a robot than a real person.

5 The 2ML. I can't put him in the "hated" list. I can't put an abused child in this list, not even in a drama. Not even when he des some questionable if not despicable things. I wish we could see him happy to be honest and I took his last scene as he will find his purpose and some day he'll be happy. I didn't find him handsome at all so it's not because of that. It's because I think he was abused and lied his whole life and he deserves some happiness.

Things I hated

1 The father of the 2ML. The actor nailed the role, no doubt. I haven't abhorred someone so much since the 2Ml in So I Married an Anti-Fan. I wanted to punch him every time he appeared. Such a horrible horrible person. I wish we could have seen him suffer instead of a few minutes of confrontation. I wish I could see a confrontation with his wife, his son and the ML.

2 The story was too heavy in some aspects. I didn't like the abuse of the 2ML. it was triggering to me and didn't have its place in such a drama. Same for the fire thing. It would be as much compelling without these two things.

I Came for a Simple Romance, I Stayed for Watarai

I honestly didn’t expect this at all.
After seeing so many exaggerated and overly explicit stories, this felt like such a refreshing surprise. I went into it thinking it would be just another silly high school romance, but it completely changed my mind.

The way the feelings were shown little by little, the slow and gentle pacing, the lack of rush — everything felt so calm and sincere. Nothing was forced, and that made the emotions feel even more real.

But above all, Watarai was my favorite part. Cold on the outside, yet incredibly sweet in his own quiet way. He completely stole my heart. I ended up liking him so much more than I expected.

This BL truly surpassed all my expectations, and I’m really glad I gave it a chance.
I just wish we could get a special episode showing the main couple as adults, seeing how their relationship grows over time. It feels like such a shame to say goodbye to such a beautiful and adorable character like Watarai.

I mean the semi-normal ones...

The collection is nice, I can understand some fetishes and I couldn't understand some others, like fingertips?? Not even the whole finger, And legs?? The whole leg??
I mean to each his own I guess ~~

Acting is ok-ish, it's a 2012 show so ... Don't expect something groundbreaking or anything.
Some fake scenes were too obvious and some were cringe, but also some were hot, I guess depending on the actors.

It's a fun short collection of fetishes and I'm glad they are only about body parts, not actions done with those body parts, cause yeah, it's Japan and I'm partially traumatized ~~

Lighthearted slowburn mystery romcom that gets a little

Dived in without much expectations and was looking for a romcom with some mystery, and got exactly that.

The leads had great chemistry and I definitely love the slow-burn pace, be it their romance or the murder case. The mystery kept me looking forward to each episode, and the romance lightened the tone and made the whole drama less mentally exhausting to watch. It was perfect for someone like me now who wants something light-hearted enough but not nonsensical, yet carries some thrilling mystery (need not a murder case though) to make it less boring and not just all about romance. Sure, this drama wasn't exceptional material, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Many viewers didn't like either La Ik's personality or Se Na's personality, or both, but for me, the leads were my favorite and I appreciated their flaws. The storyline wasn't groundbreaking and some parts could've been utilized better, but I think it was overall a pretty solid drama. La Ik was someone struggling with a lot of emotional baggage, made worse by fans who stalked him, and a terrible mother (whom I think did not deserve that redemption at the end) who tried to milk him dry. But La Ik actually turned out to be a very warm person. Se Na's determination and resilience impressed me. She always carried herself gracefully and with confidence. I love that ML and FL both became each other's emotional support when they were at their lowest.

The reveal of the murderer at the end had me liking and hating it 50/50. To be honest, it felt kinda anticlimactic at first, but at the same time, I liked that it wasn't linked to a bigger scheme or a bigger bad boss, which I feel was usually the case with murder mystery dramas.

The part in the beginning where they mentioned the stab was done with such precision really threw me off, making me believe that the murder must've been premeditated, and turns out it was the complete opposite. That was the most what the heck moment for me. But the whole thing was very fitting with Hye Ju's character, and the only thing I liked about it was that she was consistent. The fact that she turned out to be the murderer? Honestly, didn't like it that much.

And what I really didn't like about the ending was how the sasaeng fans didn't get any real punishment. At first, I got the feeling that the writer was perhaps trying to encourage respectful fangirling through them in the end. But that's just too idealistic and sasaengs NEED TO BE PUNISHED PROPERLY. Giving them chances after chances hoping they'd change? That's just putting the artist in danger and hurting them even more, physically and mentally, and also risking their safety. I don't think I've seen sasaengs facing real consequences for their actions in k-dramas, which really sucks.

Towards the middle of the drama, I was seriously hoping (though the ending was no surprise) that those two sasaeng fans won't get a ridiculous redemption arc and I wanted them to face proper consequences. Alas, it turned out just as I expected and hated. Oh well.

I really liked that the prosecutor eventually decided to go against his father. I like and appreciate his attitude once he came around because he was actually committed to his decision. He wasn't wishy-washy or ambiguous about it. I appreciated how the CEO didn't turn out as wicked as I thought, and what a surprise, he just let go of Gold Boys' trademark. Crazy. So unreal. 😂😂😂 How I wish some companies would actually do that......... 😐

The one thing I'd actually nitpick about, is the fanchant at the end only included La Ik's name and Gold Boys, but not the names of other members, which was weird. I can't remember if the fanchants shown in earlier episodes had all their names or not, but if they didn't, then it's no wonder the other members felt neglected.

This was one of the rare dramas I've really enjoyed every single episode and finished entirely lately. Been dropping a lot of dramas recently, and sadly, most of them were k-dramas coz things were feeling very repetitive. So Idol I was definitely a pleasant surprise.
