A Hidden Gem That Deserves Far More Love

A long-format C-drama that brings back everything we miss about epic storytelling.

⭐ Overall Review

This drama has one of the clearest, neatest storylines I’ve ever seen—nothing feels rushed, and every character gets the attention and development they deserve. The suspense is kept alive till the very last episode; even though most of the story unfolds by episode 57, you're still unsure what will happen by episode 58, which is a huge kudos to the writer.

Thank you to the producers, writers, cast, and everyone who brought this drama to life.

I discovered Princess Silver during a severe drama slump—nothing long-format felt entertaining or captivating enough. As a binge-watcher, short dramas kept me occupied, but they never satisfied the craving for a rich, layered story.

Ironically,I first added Princess Silver to my PTW list after seeing it on someone’s profile with a taste similar to mine, but I deleted it soon after because of the mixed reviews, the unfamiliar cast, and the “only 8.0” rating on MDL. Later, I randomly came across a 2-hour chopped “short drama” version and, to my surprise, found it quite intriguing. Even after watching that, I was still skeptical about trying such a long drama—but I finally decided to give it a proper chance, and from the very first episode, it kept me completely hooked.

I started with an 8/10, raised it to a 9/10 by episode 32 (after binge-watching the entire day), and by the end of all 56 episodes, this drama was a solid 10/10 for me.

In an era where long-format dramas are rare and story depth is often sacrificed for episode limits, Princess Silver stands out as a beautifully written, emotionally rich production that brings back the magic of classic historical epics.

🎨 Production & Aesthetics – A Masterpiece in Every Frame

This drama is visually stunning.

Costumes
---------------
Layered fabrics, muted tones, rich textures, and intricate detailing—the outfits feel elegant, high-quality, and far more refined than many modern historicals.

Set & Prop Design
------------------------
The sets are beautifully crafted, with thoughtful decorative elements even in the smallest props. The overall design feels authentic, immersive, and visually rich.

Atmosphere
--------------------
The recurring theme of collector-style tea sets and ceremonial tea-making adds elegance and charm. The drama perfectly captures the ambiance of ancient palaces.

🎭 Acting & Direction – Emotional, Engaging, and Nuanced

The acting is the beating heart of this drama. No flashy idols, no trending faces—just solid performances that deliver every shade of emotion.

The director highlights subtle expressions beautifully: happiness tinted with fear, sadness hidden under a smile, hesitation masked by duty.
Every major to minor character has depth, growth, and a compelling emotional arc.

Even more impressive, this drama makes you love, hate, pity, and understand every single character. Not one of them is flat or wasted.

👤 Characters – Balanced, Layered & Unforgettable

Fu Chou (Jing Chao)
A grey, tragic, deeply layered character. Even if you don’t ship him with the FL, his performance is unforgettable.

Prince Li
The “ideal male lead” archetype—steady, loyal, and sincere. A classic hero you can root for.

Rong Le
A heroine who grows from gentle and naive into strong and resilient, while keeping her kindness intact.

Rong Qi
Mysterious, quiet, and emotionally complex. His storyline hits especially hard once it unfolds.

⭐ A Note for Leo Luo Fans

If you’re watching Princess Silver specifically for Leo Luo, set the right expectations. His character is meaningful and adds an interesting layer to the story, but he has very limited screen time—appearing in about five episodes overall.
His role is impactful but brief, not a main or heavily featured supporting lead.

🌨️ My Favorite (Non-Spoiler) Scenes
1. The Silver Couple’s Snow Scene

Visually breathtaking—the silver hair against falling snow is cinematic perfection.

2. The Hair Transformation Scene

Symbolic, emotional, and beautifully staged. One of the most elegant transformation moments in historical C-dramas.

3. The Wedding Chaos Scene

Energetic, dramatic, and incredibly fun to watch. Comparable to the chaotic wedding opening in Dashing Youth.

🎶 OST – Emotional and Perfectly Matched

The OST elevates the entire drama.
Each character theme enhances the storytelling. If you can, watch a version where the song lyrics are subtitled—the meanings add powerful layers to the emotions.

📘 Story & Writing – Rich, Twisty, Engaging

This drama has:

political intrigue
hidden identities
emotional conflicts
complex relationships
unpredictable twists

It kept me hooked until the very last episode.

If you liked Lost You Forever, this drama has:

strong reverse-harem energy
a love square
four equally impactful leads
and deeper, more consistent storytelling
In some ways, the plot here feels stronger and more balanced.

✔️ Who Should Watch It?

You will love this drama if you enjoy:

Long-format historical dramas
Complex characters and emotional depth
Rich palace intrigue
Beautiful cinematography
Mature acting and subtle expressions
Strong character development
Romance with layered storytelling
Symbolic and atmospheric scenes
Elegant world-building
Fans of Lost You Forever, The Rise of Phoenixes, Love and Redemption, or Novoland: Pearl Eclipse will feel at home.

✖️ Who Should Avoid It?

This may not be for you if:

You dislike long dramas (50+ episodes)
You only enjoy fast-paced short dramas
You prefer heavy romance in every episode
You need idol-level production budgets or CGI
You only watch dramas for trending actors

🌟 Final Verdict: 10/10 – A Masterpiece Hidden in Plain Sight

Princess Silver is one of the most underrated Chinese historicals. From its stunning visuals to nuanced acting, emotional depth, and elegantly crafted world, this drama revived my love for long-format storytelling.

A true gem—and absolutely worth watching.

Predictable story

The premise of the story is an impossible misunderstanding, and every single opportunity of easily resolving the misunderstanding is interrupted by some ridiculously cliché plot twist.

Frankly, I felt insulted by the writers' lack of sincerity. This drama is but a boring sequence of failed attempts to weave a nothing-burger into a story. The diva model bit was particularly poorly written, and an embodiment of this drama's silliness.

As for the actors. I disliked ML with a passion. FL made the best of her poorly written part. 2ML was great as the proverbial puppy friend. I didn't care about 2FL.
I was glad the co-workers NPCs were friendly to FL from the get-go (I dislike the "hostile -> some bs event -> friendly" NPC arc. That's one cliché we were spared :)).

What's great about predictable dramas is that you know from the first episode whether it is for you or not. This drama is one of these.
I deliberately scored this drama 1 point lower than I would normally have, because the current average (8) seems too high to me.

Season 2 makes this drama perfect

Contrary to other comments, i liked season 2 more than season 1. In the first season we see the two leads mostly at work where hiroko has this over the top 'senpai' personality. Here, they arent at work anymore and she seems much softer and showing her true emotions. She kind of feels like a different person if you compare season 1 ep 1 and the least ep of season 2 :D

Xiao zhan

sooooo I guess I can say that this serie is good because of xiao zhan. The female lead is annoying(not the actress), she interferes in someone’s business when it has nothing to do with her. The plot is okayish, it’s just that when I started this show I was hoping for a strong female lead like in who rules the world, but after becoming the disciple she still had to rely on others to protect her. I think I can say that I am continuing this serie for xiao zhan, because his acting is really good as always.

Historical BL which is actually BL with a happy ending❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loved it!!! It was a lot better than i expected. 🤭🤭 I kept putting this on hold for a while and watched it cz i had nothing to watch. Alas!! I don't regret it. Bao is such a cutie and huai is such a beauty❤️. I cried and laughed all through the series. Loved the unexpected 2nd couple doctor x bodyguard story with the childhood reunion... ahhhh i wish we'd see more of them but yep I'm happy with what we had... loved how both doc and huai were both jealous types but their boyfriends were both clingy type😆😆. They were like "I'm gonna isolate u from the world" but their boyfriends were too extroverted 😆😆 hahaha the trio was my favorite.

i really liked xiao yu. She's such a pretty kid. I did feel she was not getting enough screen time until the last episode. That was such a beautiful ending🥺 loved how huai kept trying to have quality time with bao but she kept intruding 😆😆 and acting all innocent.

I deductsd 0.5 cz huai SAs bao out of jealousy but then they kinda brush it off and turn it into "he might be bad but i cant help but love him". He never pays for that.

Also yu gets kidnapped and everyone is like worried but for 5 mins😆😆 they literally forget her until ep 11.

Overall its a good show watch it uk how rare it is to find chinese historical BL that are actually BL and have a happy ending❤️

Excellent Series to watch for authentic periodic dramas... satisfying to watch

Till now this series didn't disappoint me I am at 19th episode... every episode is meaningful and all the new characters are well narrated and well introduced and has excellent production value from costumes, the periodic sets and the makeup which are really authentic. The production values are very rich like the tea grinding and making set, which I think is true to how they used to make tea in ancient times. Every character is well cast and well acted and their performances are top notch like the character Wang Tiangui a crocked banker. I couldn't praise this series more and this comes from me who has watched more that 80 plus wuxia and Xianxia dramas. It is in par with Story of Yanxi palace and Story of Ming Lan to name a few which has female leads and nirvana in fire which are the best in the recent times. Frankly it should have been rated more that the recent Wuxia dramas in 2025. Must watch for fans who love to watch Chinese dramas.

reminds me of the 8th sense somehow

I feel like I haven't watched a bl that resonated with me in such a long time so it was refreshing for me from the normal cute simple bls, it's almost tragic in the middle but in such a gd way the cinematography is on point. I truly have no idea exactly why this series made my heart ache but I'm so glad it did, the fact it was made in a way that tells you a long story in 6 short episodes is incredible and it doesn't feel rushed at all.
overall a beautiful bl and will most likely rematch, somehow it gave me the same feels as the eighth sense, the characters are flawed but that's what makes the series feel so real. loved it.

Bland Summer, Winter... everything

It is impressing how someone can take a decent cast, an okay story, lots of fun clicés, ok representation, decent characters, good kisses, a nice setting and still manage to make something so repetitive and bland that I feel like I deserve a pat on the back for making it to the end. Either that or someone to shake some sense in to me so I would drop it.

They even had a cute dog, so how, how, how could this end up so dull and full of eye rolling simultaneous talk?

If you are a fan of the cast I say run away as this may send you in to some kind of fandom crisis. Actually no mater who or what type of dramas you like you can probably skip this. The generous 6,5 is because of all of those variables that could have been so good as well as how mind blowing it is that they managed to make it this bland.

Quite a hard watch to begin with, but ultimately quite a gripping tale

I enjoyed most of this 24 episode 10 minute drama because it all came together perfectly by the end. The heartless tyrant, Emperor and the naive silly girl resolve all their misunderstanding satisfactorily after her rebirth.. it was quite gripping how we got there with him killing her by mistake because he was insane and her punishing him after her rebirth with pretty brutal torture. Turns out he was drugged by his evil Mum who appeared late in the show which made him act insane. I enjoyed it most of the political intrigue except the Mum’s appearance near the end, but it all worked out well.

Nine Years Later, This Time-Slip K-Drama Still Rips Your Heart Out ?

Genre: Historical, Slight Fantasy
Tropes: Transmigration, Love Triangle (that turns into some other weird shape later in the series)

I’ll start by saying that I have no words after finishing this. I had to take some time to process everything before sharing my feels.

If you are an international K-Drama fan like me, you probably know that for the longest time, "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" remained unavailable for viewing on any major streaming platforms.

It’s also important to note that it’s not a new drama. It was released in 2016, and while the quality of K-dramas has gotten way better in the past 9 years, this is still an ambitious series with a larger-than-life story, and it’s currently one of the most searched series on Viki.

At the heart of the story is a young woman in the present day who, after a
drowning incident during an eclipse, finds herself transported back in time, inhabiting the body of a noble lady closely connected to the royal family. As she navigates the unfamiliar customs and expectations of the Goryeo era, our heroine must forge new relationships with various people to survive. I’d like to mention that Goryeo dynasty was a significant period in Korean history that lasted from 918 to 1392. So, it’s important to understand this was the time of strict societal norms and a power struggle that knew no bounds.

Our heroine makes friends with several princes, ultimately falling for two of them simultaneously. So, the first half of the show we are invested in the love triangle.

But as the drama progresses, the narrative takes a dark turn. The love story becomes entangled in a complex web of family feuds, as the princes vie for the throne (and a few more vie for our heroine’s heart), their ambitions eclipsing any notion of a happily-ever-after. It's a harrowing, emotionally draining journey, yet one that we simply cannot tear ourselves away from. At this point, we are too invested in the characters and their fates because they are fleshed out and real, and we can’t help it. It’s almost like watching a trainwreck in slow-motion. There’s absolutely no comedic moments left, just lots of anxiety and some foreshadowing.

Things I enjoyed:

Acting and star-studded cast. And I do mean star-studded. This show gave a boost in popularity to a lot of beloved Korean actors. We even have a small cameo from Byeon Woo Seok from “Lovely Runner.”

I know the opinions on IU’s acting are divided. I think it has nothing to do with her skills but with the way her character was written. Historical setting and rules women had to adhere at the time also play a big role in her behavior. She essentially had to forget where she was from and try to make it work in her current situation. I have no problem with her character or acting. I think she did a great job. I think any woman in such circumstances would have done the same.

Lee Joon Gi, who played 4th Prince, carried the show on his shoulders. But… I am also not upset about some of the things that happened in the last two episodes. Yes, there’s romance but it’s not going to end the way you think. (SPOILER) For some reason, I rooted for 14th prince because he gave our heroine what she wanted. Not all, but the most important things that mattered in the end, in my opinion.

I loved all the other couples and how the relationships between the characters were portrayed.

Things I think could have been done better:

The ending. It’s not a secret this show doesn’t have a happy ending. This is ultimately a historical show with a dash of fantasy (and I mean just a dash) and it reflects the harsh realities of the time period it’s set at. I can definitely deal with some of the open endings where it’s easy to guess what could happen. Knowing what the deleted scene at the end of the last episode would have been, it gives me a little comfort. But leaving it the way it is is weird because if the writers are alluding to what we think they are alluding, it needs to be shown somehow. I think the ending definitely needed some finesse.

In a nutshell, “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” is a romantic historical drama about the price of power.

I suppose, you’re asking yourself why watch it if it doesn’t have a HEA.

Some shows are there for pure entertainment and to make you feel good. “Moon Lovers” is a show where you enjoy the journey not the destination. Not every work of fiction is going to give you fuzzy feelings. Some are there to show you other things.

Even years after its release, the series remains a staple of what a Korean historical drama, or "sageuk," should aspire to be. Its ability to seamlessly blend romance, political intrigue, and gut-wrenching tragedy has cemented its status as a true classic of K-drama.

It's finally available to watch on Viki.

Came for Gong Jun, Stayed for the Fight Scenes

I went into Blood River knowing nothing except that it starred Gong Jun and had martial arts, and I ended up loving it way more than expected. The drama is pure entertainment — the fighting scenes, CGI, choreography, and music were so good that they carried the entire show. Even without romance, it would still be fun to watch.

The styling was another highlight. Everyone looked incredible — subtle makeup, great hair, gorgeous fairy-like looks for the girls, and strong, dominant outfits for the men. SMY’s red outfit and his white-and-red demonic look were absolutely stunning.

The friendship between SMY and SCH was beautiful and honestly felt like the real emotional core of the show. I kept waiting for a betrayal, but thankfully it never happened. Their bond was one of my favorite parts.

Overall, Blood River feels more like a visually entertaining drama than a deep, plot-driven one. The first half was dark and focused, but the second half became confusing with too many characters and clans. It’s also clearly incomplete, setting up a Season 2 without resolving the main storyline, but I’ll definitely continue watching.

As a Gong Jun fan, he was a big reason I started the drama. He had some fantastic emotional moments — especially the crying scene — though in many scenes he felt a bit stiff. His fight scenes, however, were flawless.

My biggest confusion was Xiao Ran being labeled as the female lead. I assumed she was paired with Gong Jun, so I kept waiting for something to happen between them, but she barely appeared and had almost no impact on the story. It felt unfair when other supporting characters, especially Hua Sen, were far more important.

Because of that confusion, I couldn’t connect to WHH’s romance with SMY at all. And the power levels in the drama made no sense — every “strong” character kept getting defeated by someone even stronger, except SMY and SCH, who were the only ones who felt consistently powerful.

In the end, Blood River is a great pick for anyone who loves Wuxia, martial arts, and strong visuals. The story can get tangled, but as pure entertainment, it’s extremely enjoyable and worth continuing into Season 2.

Sweet drama that deals with big life issues

I was in between dramas, and came upon this one by accident. So glad I did.
I really enjoyed it. It's a drama that deals with such tough life issues. This show covered it all, angst, anger, contemplating suicide, hurt, pain, loss, family, jealousy (ex wife) but most of all, love.
My biggest take away from this drama is that standing together, definitely makes you stronger.

The series mainly interested me because of how it deals with mental health and the fact that the main character works in a psychiatric hospital says it all. And voila, I finally finished watching it and I have mixed feelings about it so far. I laughed a lot, empathized with the characters and even cried a little at times. I am so glad that the series also shows the other perspective of the patients and not just what we see from the perspective of the main character or the supporting characters. I also really liked how the characters were played and I was totally blown away by our famous Go Moon-young, who was an original character with an original style of dressing, humor and emotions (whether it was love or obsession). I also appreciate the way Kang-tae's brother was played, which must have taken a lot of effort and I stared at it with my mouth wide open. And the art side!? Hello?! Illustrations, fairy-tale motifs, atmosphere. The overall idea of the series was original and incredibly beautifully crafted. Not to mention how mental health is discussed there and something was explained every time. I love it. So if you are a fan of series about love, mental health and a bit of family and drama, this is exactly for you. I am extremely satisfied and I recommend the series with a smile!

⚖️ "Law School" (2021) Review: A Compelling Legal Thriller Worth Watching

"Law School" delivers a thrilling and generally well-written storyline that captures the intensity of legal education and complex criminal cases. This series is so engaging that it warrants multiple rewatches, testifying to its compelling narrative and suspenseful execution. It is a highly recommended watch, especially for those looking for a K-drama that offers both depth and entertainment, and one that holds up well enough to enjoy on a second (or third) viewing.

If not for the ending..

I started this drama because of Esther Yu and Ding Yuxi’s chemistry offscreen, especially during that award show. I’ve also heard people recommending this drama, which is why I gave this one a try.

Honestly, I was getting bored of the “getting sucked into another world” plot and did not find this particular one interesting either. However after watching the first episode, I instantly got hooked! I would say that this drama is a light option of its kind (the demon slaying, magic costume type of drama). Among similar-themed costume dramas that I’ve watched, this one had the perfect balance of romance, comedy, familial relationship, and demon slaying plot. The story was not draggy and was well-written. I find it interesting how Miao Miao was transported into a game and had to complete missions narrated by the game operator. The game theme is definitely a fresh and entertaining concept for me.

In terms of acting, I’ve got nothing to say other than all the actors did an incredible job! Even Lu Yu Hao did an amazing job at portraying the cute Cui Cui. Esther Yu was so adorable when acting as Miao Miao. I even find myself saying that she’s cute multiple times. Also, Ding Yuxi’s facial expression was art! His facial expression was so captivating especially his eyes and eyebrows. I have to say that among his dramas that I’ve watched, Mu Sheng is his best character. I also want to give a shout out to Zhu Xu Dan and Yang Shi Ze. Zhu Xu Dan has such pretty eyes and she was perfect for the role of Mu Yao. Yang Shi Ze was also so manly and dependable as Liu Fu Yi. Not to mention, the make up, hairstyle, and outfits of all the actors was perfectly executed. They all looked so good!

Everything was perfect until the ending. I guess the writer just gave up. I remember looking forward to the ending and the plot twist that other people mentioned. The excitement gradually decreased when the team went to rescue Mu Yao. Then I started repeating “huh?” when Miao Miao asked the game operator to repeat the scene (?) so Mu Sheng won’t die.. Ugh, messy. Not to mention the plot twist in the end. Everything was so rushed I didn’t have to time to process it. Also, I am aware that time travel dramas often have open endings so I learned to not put expectations on the endings, however Love Game in Eastern Fantasy was so promising, which is why I ended up looking forward to them meeting again in real life but yep, was disappointed (again) with the ending.

Although so, I really enjoyed watching this drama. I even binged it in one sitting. The ending definitely sucked but everything else was worth the watch!
