2016 is back?

As we all know 2016 was the peak of Kdrama and even before or after that there were so many amazing shows that touched our hearts.
But honestly? This year? It feels like I’m back in 2016 again with the kdramas and Perfect crown is one of them hits.

The acting, music, THE STORY. The plot was deep yet the storytelling didn’t disappoint honestly. The romance plot was also done so elegantly fitting for the storyboard, and the ENDING touched my heart.
Disclaimer: For this review, i went in based on the fact that the drama’s main genre is ‘romance’ ‘romcom’.

And little fangirling here:
More so the SUPPORTING ACTORS are INSANE for their ACTING cause oof girl SFL,, i just can’t hate the woman, antagonist (even though he damn hot) MAI GAWD HIS CHARACTER MADE ME WANNA GO THROUGH THE SCREEN AND GIVE HIM A REALITY CHECK. The little king? SUCH A CUTIE PLEASE DON’T CRY EVERY AGAIN.
And the real MVP of this drama is FL’s BROTHER AND SISTER IN LAW, OMG THEY REALLY,,, EVERY TIME THEY COME ON SCREEN I JUST LOVE THEM.
The Aide couple are EVERYTHING AHHAHHA
Our FL and ML didn’t fall behind they were such a great couple together and their chem was off charts ooof.

Okay conclusion:
All in all the story didn’t let even the supporting characters fall behind, every character was properly shown and didn’t take over the storyboard nor the plot. The storytelling left nothing behind and what started elegantly maintained that tone throughout. Though i would argue there are some crumbs that I’m more curious as the audience,
1) what ever happened to SML?
2) who was the person that SIL had planted in the palace?
3) SFL said she’s protect the fam of the person who poisoned the tea cup… i almost thought they were trying to say the little king was her child instead but ended up it’s just so she can testify,,, but on what ground did she agree to testify though?
4) who killed the mother of ML? Did the ML really die from the fire or did he set the fire himself? Cause it didn’t make sense to me? The king sent the box and written will to I-AN but how did he send it without anyone noticing the fire?
5) I’m curious on what Lee Wan is good at that doesn’t include managing the country xD

Apart from these crumbs,,, i see a lot of comments thinking why the monarchy had to be abolished,,,
It had to be or else the plot wont make sense? Huiju didn’t want the noble title, she wanted her opportunity to get the company under her name, for that she either would have to divorce Lee Wan if the monarchy stands, but it’s a romance genre, divorce is a no go, so abolish the monarchy, simple. Remember the whole thing started cause FL said ‘wtf why am i missing opportunity just cause I’m not born into a title?’

the cast and the acting was amazing. the cinematography, locations and scenery were also amazing... but I thought the climax and resolution were too close together and at the very end. I would've liked to see more of them in their regular lives without all the pretenses.
Byeon Wooseok's wardrobe was amazing. He always looked like the prince he was meant to play but I don't think IU's did. She was to be a chaebol and her wardrobe although pretty, it didn't always suit her, especially the color; and don't make me talk about those horrible nails they put on her again, and again. the dullest most horrible color they could find and they also looked like they were done badly.
now, with all that said, I am waiting for it to have Spanish dub so I can put it for my mom because it was THAT good.

She's right, Stoics are lame. Get lost, Zeno of Citium !

I've always seen this actress in supporting roles ; I don't mean to be mean, but it's easy to see why. (who am I to say this ?) With her porcelain skin and her mother-of-pearl face perched atop a mantis's neck, she's the only one we see on the screen, but she doesn't have a particularly wide range as an actress. In this case, we're not asking for much either. It's a light-hearted, lovely and cute romance. Ok, it touches on subjects like suicide, domestic violence and child abandonment... but at the end of the day, it's a feel-good, funny series. Yes...
A super-basic story and unbearable music. No real stakes : everything was fine, actually. Ideal for times of intense anxiety.

_The two teenagers competing for their grades are just too cute. They show more maturity than the adults.
_That little dog !

Everything was "Perfect" except the story!

You know, I usually don't care about English titles, but "Perfect Crown" was a bad choice after watching the finale.

The original "Wife of a 21st Century Prince" would actually fit the story more, not only because the crown wasn't perfect, but because she was actually married to a 21st century prince. Like, what makes this crown perfect? The crown doesn't even exist anymore.

Why couldn't this drama deliver with a cast like this? You can find the reason if you look at the writer. Her being a rookie isn't a good excuse. This isn't a complicated story, just another romcom. This has nothing to do with episode number either. You can give a writer 5 or 50 episodes. If they can't develop characters and build up their journey properly in 12 episodes, they won't be able to do it if you give them more. This is just a typical Kdrama fan way of thinking that quantity can solve problems, but in reality fans only want to see their favorite lead characters longer. It's not about the story.

So, let's see the actual story and how the writer demolished pretty much every character in "Perfect Crown" just like Ian demolished monarchy.

We have a strong, smart, and independent female lead who runs her own business. She's the richest woman in the country, but people in her inner circle don't respect her because she's not married to a nobleman. At least that's what the writer tries to tell us, but we've never seen this. So, she decides she's going to marry the prince for his status. Eventually she falls in love too obviously, just as Ian has loved her since their school days. The minute they fall in love, our dear female lead, Huiju, forgets her goal and her pride and says things like, "I never wanted status." This is basically a character suicide. It's one thing to move on from your original plan because you're in love now, but to say such a thing screams incompetent writing skills or at least ignorance.

Why do I care about writing when this is just a romcom? I can already hear you asking this. I didn't expect hardcore politics and scheming, but I want a well written script where the story actually makes sense, and I won't ask, "Why does this character do this?" There's no buildup to anything; they're just doing things because they have to.

I think it's safe to say the only character in the drama whose arc is logical is Ian, because when he wanted to be a king, he couldn't get it, and when he had a chance, he wanted to demolish it because it people were hurting each other over it. Not that this was explained throughout the season effectively, but at least it wasn't surprising. I have to be honest, Ian as a character is one of the most uninteresting male leads I've seen in a while. I never felt like he had plans; he was just there because he was the lead and things happened.

We've had 3 villains in 12 episodes, or did we? At first, the writer introduced the queen mother to us as a power-hungry, abusive mother of her 7 year old king. She obviously killed the late king, the father of her own child, but we never get a real explanation about this either. If anything, episodes later they were trying to convince us that she didn't do anything bad at all. So, a woman who killed her husband, not to mention wanted to burn her own son alive, got a redemption arc. Why not, right?

Now, our 2nd antagonist, who became one because everyone expected him to be. Everyone's favorite Jinmu. I don't remember if we've seen him till halfway or had any lines. Then, around episode 6 or so, they tried to convince everyone he was the culprit behind everything bad that happened. Again, a totally random villain arc without any buildup.

Here comes the worst of them all. The guy had more charisma than any other man in this drama, yet the writer managed to ruin his character arc completely and made him your average jealous teen boy who could burn down an entire country for a woman who never loved him more than a friend. Prime Minister Min could've been a great villain, but the creators chose to make him a third-wheeling, angry cat. He was basically like Anakin Skywalker, who wanted to reach the sky but couldn't walk. I always wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt because I was too naive and thought the writer might pull off something interesting, like he was just a double agent of Ian. Sadly, she just didn't care because she knew most people wouldn't pay attention to the story if the two main leads could carry the drama for her.

If there's one positive I can mention about this drama, it's the cast and their acting. They did a great job, especially the female actors, and they carried a bang-average (at best) script.

If I have to be really honest, the female characters did the heavy lifting because pretty much every male character was useless and boring or both.

Is there anything left? Well, I have to mention a couple of things for the last part.

We've had multiple plotlines, but almost everything was unanswered, or it was finished in a hurry.

What happened to the prime minister? He's probably in jail, but they spent so much time on things that aren't important at all; they didn't have any time left to actually mention the relevant things.

Who killed Ian's parents, or was that just an accident? How did Ian get the king's letter? How did Queen Mother get Huiju and Ian's contract? Who tried to kill Huiju? How can everyone burn down the palace so many times, and no firefighter goes in to save people except the main leads?

Why on Earth would the richest woman, who said she wants to marry a man who's not below her quality, stick to a man who can't, sorry, doesn't want to find a job for himself for 3+ years? Did Ian deal with some politics, or was he just signing contracts without reading them? Why did he never ask his wife or her dad to help him find a job at least?

I mean, if Ian were not the male lead, everyone would call him a red flag and a loser. A guy who wanted to demolish monarchy is now a housewife who can't cook, can't clean, and I don't think can do anything.

I'm sorry, but being a romcom doesn't excuse a female for forgetting her priorities just because she's in love. Everyone else got a job; even Hyeon runs a flower shop. I'm sure even the ex-Prime Minister guy has a job in prison.

I forgot to mention this, but why do Huiju and Ian still live in the palace's private residence? I guess the budget was low in the finale, so Huiju couldn't buy a new house because the ex-prince cost a lot of money.

To be honest, I could go on all day, but I don't see the point; I'm just too angry. "Perfect Crown" could've been an actually good drama with a good writer who could do more than just fan service.

This is the disappointment of the year so far.

Ghosts, Giggles, and Great Chemistry — A Surprisingly Fun Ride

What I loved the most was the dynamics between the ghosts and Yeon Seok. Every ghost story was interesting in its own way, especially the stories of the kid, his dad, and the scientist husband. Their stories felt emotional and memorable.
Esom did a really good job with the enemies-to-lovers trope. Usually this trope can feel boring or repetitive, but here it was handled very well. Her yearning moments genuinely made me giggle, lol.

As for the downside, the villains were not very challenging or engaging. It felt like the writer treated them more as side plots rather than major threats. Still, they did their part well enough for the story.

Another strong point was the pacing. It never felt draggy to me, and the drama managed to keep me interested throughout.

Refreshing

I finished watching it, and I really enjoyed it. One of the biggest surprises was Cha Eun Woo; he improved a lot as an actor, especially when it came to expressing emotions. His performance felt more mature and natural this time.
Park Eun Bin did a fabulous job as always and completely owned her role. Among the side characters, Choi Yun Ji and Jeong E Suh really caught my eye with their strong screen presence and memorable performances.

Overall, the drama was fun, emotional, and engaging enough to keep me invested till the end.

BEST SERIES EVER CREATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love you teacher is a series that has so much to offer and i can say that nobody will regret watching it. Its full of all kinds of emotions and portrays a real life struggles and relatable topics (mental health, difficulties of parent-child relationships and many more). Every single episode (and even trailer) made me cry from a lot of diffrent reasons. I love that the series main characters, Pobmek and Solar are already boyfriends (of 7 years!!) when series starts. Its not a typical choice for bl shows and in my opinion its really refreshing. Also mental health problems being main plot points make me really happy bc most of the time this topics ends up either not being present at all or is portrayed poorly. Here its done realistically, they even worked with a real life psychiatrist (or some other mental health proffesional). Perth and Santas acting is so freaking good here and dont get me wrong i knew they were good actors ever since i watched perfect 10 liners (which was their first series as a pair) but in love you teacher you can see it so much better. In my opinion they deserve actor of the year awards and i swear im not biased. Im so glad that p'Dome (director and lyt novel author) chose Perthsanta for the roles of Pobmeksolar. I believe there is no other couple that would do it as good as they did. Thanks to p'Dome for writing a script that included a spirit of Perthta and adding scenes based of how they are with eachother in real life as well as mentions or "easter eggs" for Perthta fans that probably are not noticable for casual watchers. It really made it special and i love it that this series wouldnt be the same without Perthsanta. For everyone that would like to know more about the script and changes in it specifically done for Perthsanta please check out p'Domes spaces on x (@domedingdong) or his interviews and stuff. He talked quite a lot about the whole process of filming, writing and bts stuff. If you fall in love in this series its really worth to check out! I seriously love every aspect of this series from acting, script, osts and soundtrack, colour grading to little details that could easily be unnoticed but make this series so much more complete and deep. Its a series like no other and will definetly make you feel warm, make you laugh and make you feel every emotion together with the characters. I never wrote a review until this series and i hope that i can make at least one person watch this masterpiece. If you give this series a chance you will love it and maybe even learn something from it. I personally felt seen and not alone seeing stuff that i can relate to and made me hope that one day i can have a relationship full of love, devotion, support and comfort like Pobmeksolar <3 Follow Perth and Santa if you loved their characters bc in real life their bond is beautiful, they love eachother so much and their off screen chemistry is so strong. They always say such beautiful things to eachother that i cant help but cry (and they often do too). Theres honestly no other couple like them and i hope they can be together for a long time. PLEASE WATCH LOVE YOU TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IU- Extrodinary Idol/Actress- Great Cast

I started with a 9 because of the action/ drama of the early episodes but ONLY dropped to 8.5 because it could’ve gone to 16 episodes to better close the root causes to the monarchy/ political issues pointed out early in the storyline. Otherwise, the cast was great- Debe Mama stole the show as supporting cast (Jeong Yeon’s older sister) and brought positive and future notoriety to her career for a stellar performance. The ending for the PM could’ve been sorted out better. IU’s character brought out the best in her as CEO/ businesswoman applying her strengths, attitude and character motivation like a sharp edges Ninja and sliced/ diced anyone creatively in her way. Her vulnerability to her father brought drama to a high level. His majesty brought an effective performance that pulled your emotions and tugged on, I’m sure many female fans heartstrings 😊. I thought his performance in Lovely Runner was his peak moment but this project took him to the next level. All in all the storyline was very good. All characters portrayed well and production/ cinematography was well done as well. Just the short episode timeframe is my only negative

My Royal Nemesis — A Review (3 Episodes In)

The Cast — Names You Need to Know:
Lim Ji-yeon plays Shin Seo-ri, the modern actress whose body Dan-sim now occupies, and she is flat out extraordinary in this role. If you haven't seen her before or couldn't quite place her face, that's fair — but she is not a new talent by any stretch. She has been quietly delivering great work for years, and this feels like the role that is going to make her a household name internationally. She does comedy, she does heartbreak, she does fierce and terrifying, sometimes all within the same scene, and she makes it look completely effortless. A lot of dramas live or die by their female lead. This one is thriving.

Heo Nam-jun as Cha Segye is the kind of male lead this genre needed. He is not the warm, puppy-eyed type. He is calculating and cold and a little bit scary, and yet there are these small cracks in him that make you desperately want to see more. Fans have been waiting for him to land a lead role for a while now, and watching him finally get to carry a show is genuinely satisfying. He holds his own against Lim Ji-yeon's absolute hurricane of a performance, which is no small thing.

**What Makes It Actually Work:**

The smartest decision this drama made is its pace. Most time-travel dramas spend the first several episodes watching the main character slowly figure out how electricity works. This one doesn't have the patience for that, and neither do we. Dan-sim is not confused for long. She is adapting, strategising, and surviving — because that is exactly what she has always done, and watching her apply centuries-old instincts to completely modern situations is endlessly entertaining.

The comedy is genuinely funny without ever being cheap. The drama earns every laugh. But it also knows exactly when to pull back and remind you that underneath all the chaos, there is real emotional weight here. It never lets you forget what this woman has actually been through, and those quieter moments hit harder because of how light everything around them feels.

**Kudos to the Writer:**

This is an original script, written by Kang Hyun-joo — and that deserves to be said out loud. In an era where so many dramas are adaptations of webtoons or novels, there is something genuinely special about a story that came entirely from someone's imagination and landed this well. Every character choice, every plot turn, every moment of comedy and heartbreak — that all came from scratch. The world feels lived in, the characters feel real, and the story has a confidence to it that you simply cannot fake. Kang Hyun-joo built something from nothing and it is already one of the most entertaining dramas of the year. That is a rare thing and it deserves every bit of recognition it gets.

**The Old-School Feel With a Modern Soul:**

This is the thing that is hardest to put into words but easiest to feel while watching. There is something about this drama that feels like the kdramas that made people fall in love with the genre in the first place. It has that emotional investment, that feeling that something real is at stake, that genuine care for its characters. But it is also fast, sharp, funny, and completely of this moment. It is not trying to be nostalgic. It just naturally carries that warmth.

And just when you think you have the show figured out, it reminds you that there is a much bigger story being told. Each episode ends with you needing the next one immediately. That is just good storytelling.

**The verdict:**

Three episodes in, My Royal Nemesis feels like a gift. It is the rare drama doing everything right at the same time — great leads, incredible chemistry, a story that keeps escalating without ever dragging, humour that actually lands, and enough emotional depth to make you care well beyond the surface. Lim Ji-yeon is delivering the performance of her career. Heo Nam-jun is finally getting the lead role he deserved. And the show itself has the confidence of something that knows exactly what it is and is having a brilliant time being it.

Not a single dull moment in three episodes. Eleven more to go.

The Friday-Saturday wait is already unbearable. That's how you know it's good.

first half amazing, ending Dissapointing

Perfect Crown started off incredibly strong and honestly had all the ingredients to become one of the best dramas of the year. The setting, cinematography, cast, chemistry — absolutely no complaints there. The first half was genuinely peak television for me. Up until Episode 8, every episode felt intense, layered, and exciting. It had momentum, mystery, political tension, emotional depth… everything was working perfectly.
But somewhere in the second half, the story completely lost its grip. The biggest disappointment was definitely the villains. They spent so much time building them up as terrifying masterminds, only to corner and wrap them up too easily in the end. None of them left the impact they should have, which honestly made the climax feel weaker than expected.
Another issue was how rushed and underwhelming the ending felt. Several key characters didn’t get proper closure, many plot points were left hanging, and by the final episode there were still so many unanswered questions. Instead of feeling satisfied, I was mostly confused trying to connect all the loose ends. For a drama that introduced so many complex elements early on, I expected a much more layered and well-thought-out payoff.
And with a cast this strong, great ratings are honestly not surprising at all. The actors delivered. The chemistry delivered. The production delivered. But the writing in the latter half just didn’t live up to the hype the show created for itself.
Overall, Perfect Crown is still a drama worth watching for its incredible first half, performances, and atmosphere. It just hurts a little because the potential was massive, and the story simply couldn’t maintain the brilliance it started with.

Started off strong but disappointing til the end...

I was anticipating this show since BWS attained huge popularity with Lovely Runner acting alongside with IU with good hits under her belt. Aesthetically, they did do their diligence with the small details being such a high-profile drama. It had the perfect elements for another success and it does bring in the hype but fails to meet expectations. However, that being said, there are many cliché moments and classic tropes like marriage for convenience and I find it hard to relate to the characters.

IU's role was a borderline narcissistic elite CEO who almost appears rude, vain and degrades others at times like they are beneath her that its hard to garner empathy for her when she encounters problems in the palace because she placed herself in that position willingly. Her endless pursuit for prestige/class felt like a waste of time with how it ended. Was it just greed for her to want more when she was already at the top of her game? ML also did not shine in his role, he has a model demeanor and it feels like he is just FL's trophy husband who just happens to be good-looking with a royal title.

Don't get me wrong, this show does have ample opportunity but it just doesn't live up to it's hype. One cannot get past sometimes how shallow and superficial the show really is. Despite all of it's short-comings, it does garner in a solid fanbase and ratings just from the star power and an ambiance of grandiosity, marking off categories like top choreography and acting in these areas. Chemistry is 50/50 but it's there no doubt.

I am being critical of this show just because it brings with high expectation with a stellar case so I rate it 6.5/10. I will still recommend to watch it but go in with little expectations instead of a solid written script.

Beautiful story about trauma, healing, love, and care

I didn't think when I started the first episode that this would be the one drama that would dare me into writing my first public review instead of keeping it just in my private notes... But I just have to after finishing the final epiosde because WOW!

I can't believe it is over... The amount of time I have spent thinking, crying, and smiling over this show in the past weeks is crazy. It's the best piece of media I've watched this year so far (and I've watched other amazing stuff like Khemjira or Paradise of Thorns only this year, soooo...)
Just what an absolute beautiful story about trauma, healing, love, and care!!!

To me, this show is once again proof why-TO ME-the thai dramas are often so superior compared to the ones in other countries... Because, as Puhwin put so eloquently put it, BL isn't a genre, and that's just how they treat it here… It is foremost a story about trauma and healing, and the leads happen two men in love. The trauma and the coping mechanisms are handled really well, the only thing that was a bit… underwhelming and unrealistic for me was Pobmek's mom immediately switching gears after everything she did. But, I guess, the main focus was Solar/Sun's trauma, so I didn't take a lot away from everything else being so well done.

The acting is top-notch, honestly. Big applause to everyone, but especially Santa. Playing both Solar and little Sun so distinctly was amazing, and probably the reason I cried so much basically every episode.

Pobmek and Solar's love is just soooo beautiful? PLS LORD MAY A LOVE LIKE THIS FIND ME SOME DAY cause fuuuucking hell, I wanna be loved and supported and seen like these two do for each other.

This will stay with me for a while and I'm gonna recommend this to everyone who cares and doesn't care!
