Addictive Tea Drama

This drama was impeccable until it fell off for me in the final arc.
I enjoyed the reverse harem, it felt a palace drama that we've been missing all these years due to the ban.
One of the major reasons why I enjoyed this drama is the way it was filmed, the traditional clothes were GORGEOUS. Everyone's acting was amazing, and of course the TEA. I love drinking tea and it's nice watching a drama about the process of tea leaves.

Gulinazher is not only a beautiful woman, but I think she really showcased her years and years of hardwork as an actress in this main role. I think this is her major breakthrough role, because oh my god, I couldn't imagine anyone else acting as Rong Shanbao. She was so elequent, poised, and the perfect eldest daughter any family would want. However, she can kick ass and is very cunning and smart. Until, she rebelled and that's when I loved her character even more. However, towards the end is when I realize Rong Shanbao seems to act like she knows EVERYTHING, like a prosecutor even though her BOYFRIEND, Lu Jianglai, is the true proscutor/judge. That's when the script felt off towards the end, it felt like Lu Jianglai is depended on Shanbao to solve crimes.

Lu Jianglai started off cunning as well, both leads are pretty much scheming or hiding secrets throughout the drama which definitely gives off the palace drama vibes. I would say their relationship felt like a red flag. Jianglai feels more like the concubine or more like the '愛妃' of harem dramas. LOL Shanbao clearly loves Jianglai but she gives off hot and cold vibes a lot cause she shoulders a lot of the responsibility of the Rong family's tea plantations. I wish, as aforementioned, that Jianglai would showcase his ability to solve cases until the end instead of Shanbao doing it with her brain, and whatnot. Honestly, the last arc felt so boring to me because it just repeats what Shanbao can do instead of focusing on what Jianglai can do. Like he could've solve the case, he shouldn't need his lover to do so. I just think the script fell off towards the end, it started off amazing and it's definitely one of my top favorite dramas of all times. I even had my friend hooked on it as well. lol I think Hou Ming Hao acting here was okay, there's not much to say cause his acting didn't stand out for me - not I am not hating and yes I've seen many of his dramas since 2017 so it's not that I hate his acting here, it's more like it didn't stand out compare to Gulinazher's.

I wish they did something about that butler guy which had nefarious plans to ruin Shanbao's marriage cause he's in love with her and clearly will never get the chance to be with her. Yet the Rong family didn't do anything about him and just allowed him to work for them regardless.
I did enjoy the 4th sister's redemption, and I kind of wish she took over the Rong family tea plantation cause why else would Shanbao had her start from the bottom? If she took over then Shanbao would be released from the responsibility, I thought Shanbao would rather be free of it, but alas, she still followed her granny's wishes. lol One trivial thing that I really loved is the 4th sister's traditional clothes esp the myriad of collars she had - they were so gorgeous and lovely I wish I had them. lol
The 3rd sister was barely there, she felt like a background character, while other sisters' stories were more flushed out. I wanted to know more about the 3rd sister, but it felt like she was basically a leech - she leeches on to anyone that she could benefit from I guess?
The 2nd sister's redemption was interesting, it turns out she wasn't totally evil in the end. I am glad she got what she wanted.
The 5th's sister was a FAKE BETCH! Oh maaah god, I knew she was able to 'see' the second she spoke with Mr. He on that one rainy night. She was fishy throughout the whole drama honestly. Granted, I kind of understand her perspective, anyone would go crazy when the elders keep looking down them. I did not care for her til the end honestly. lol

You can tell from the get-go that this drama was a high budget drama due to the way it was filmed, the amount of outfits each character had, etc. It was just beautifu
l. I am also grateful that this drama was airing at the time of hardship for me, it was took me briefly out of reality and into a gorgeous tea-related world. I enjoyed every moment until the last arc ofc. To be honest, I stopped watching when the final arc began, hence the late af review. It was cause of real life had hit me like a truck so I was very slow in finishing the final arc of this drama. I did read that some people assumed this drama was about Lu Jianglai, but I don't know how that came to but I knew it was mostly going to be about the Rong family due to the native title itself.
Thus, be warned if you are a Hou Ming Hao fan - his character doesn't get too much of a highlight. It felt like he was a lover ya know? Not his own character - he was head over heels over Shanbao and ofc he solve crimes as a side hustle. lol

Would I recommend this drama? ABSOLUTELYYY! Especially if you miss watching palace dramas - this is the one!
There's a lot of back and forth schemings between every character in this drama hence the addiction. lol As for romance, it can tick some people off as aforementioned, Shanbao is hot and cold towards Jianglai. lol
Otherwise, I would definitely rewatch when I have time.

Love Between Lines, this drama is highly recommended

A unique 2026 Chinese mystery-romance drama, Xiao Zhi Yu (Chen Xing Xu) and Hu Xiu (Lu Yu Xiao) meet in a VR murder mystery game set in the Republic of China era, where they assume false identities but are drawn to each other's true personalities. The story runs parallel between the game's fictional world and reality, blending puzzles, psychology, and the emotions that develop as the boundaries between illusion and reality blur.
Key Story Points:
Dual Concept: The drama has two narratives running concurrently: one set in an intense murder mystery game, and another about their real-life encounter, which feels like destiny.
Mystery & Romance: A strong blend of genres, combining psychological thriller elements with a romance that blossoms amidst the tension and false identities.
Characters: Xiao Zhi Yu and Hu Xiu, initially just acting, slowly unravel their true selves and feelings amidst the overlapping fictional and real worlds.
Adaptation: Based on the popular novel Yaxi by Zu Le, known for its complex, two-sided narrative storytelling.
Why You Should Watch (According to Early Reviews):
Unique Plot: The story's concept of separating the fictional and real worlds is captivating and immersive.
Actors: Chen Xing Xu and Lu Yu Xiao are expected to showcase strong chemistry, especially given their dual roles.
Visuals & Ambiance: Director Mao De Shu brings a fresh visual style, blending the suspense of the Republican era with a modern urban setting.
Review Conclusion:
"Love Between Lines" offers a fresh and engaging premise for fans of mystery, romance, and stories with multiple layers. If you enjoy dramas that play with illusion, identity, and psychological tension, this drama is highly recommended.

NOT GLORIOUS AT ALL

The most insufferable FL of the year.

She’s arrogant, manipulative, scheming and is always playing the ML since he’s head over heels in move with her. She blames him and plays the victim but he’s proven over and over again that he is true to her. She’s constantly using him to get what she wants. She said she cares for him but rarely tells him anything kind except mind tricks to control him. Her smiles are scary because they’re never genuine. She smiles when she knows she got him under her control.

They don’t communicate at all. He pours his heart out to her and she’s constantly plotting behind his back. Even until the very end, she controlled everything and acted as though she’s letting him choose. Ugh. He should’ve let her leave and move on. He deserves so much more.

I feel this drama was too rushed.

I watched this in 2024 and actually it was not that memorable and FL was relentlessly bullied and manipulated by SML.

Because of its shorter length and more content, the romantic subplot isn't as nuanced. This version doesn't clearly show the ML's redemption of the FL nor does it convey the feeling that he is actual FL benefactor. The chemistry between the leads is not strong.

Good Bones But Wasted Potential

Chinese BL dramas are like unicorns: they appear sporadically, like one good one every five years, then get hindered by new censorship regulations. And I always try to watch because some of them are real gems.

(Looking at you The Untamed)

2025 has brought us some promising entries like "Revenged Love" and "ABO Desire."
"To My Shore" caught my attention because I saw its trailer, but ultimately, it didn’t really meet my expectations.

After watching all 15 episodes, my take is that this drama serves as a decent option if you're looking for some skinship in a Chinese BL. Oh, they do it a lot in this drama. The foundation for a compelling story is there, but the script feels more like a rough draft than a polished narrative.

While the characters and their backstories are intriguing, the arcs seem underdeveloped, and I don't believe this falls on the actors. The writers had a fascinating premise but failed to deliver to execute. Although I can appreciate complex themes, the portrayal of toxic and abusive relationships here wasn’t handled in a way that allowed me to believe in genuine redemption.

I did enjoy some aspects of the dynamic between the leads. I’m so tired of the typical top-and-bottom roles with the bottom assumed to be the "wife material." It's refreshing to see characters who break away from these stereotypes. The push-and-pull interactions were enjoyable. They were both trying to be in control. At least at the beginning.

Unfortunately, the narrative did suffer from poor execution. The uneven acting in the first portion of the drama and so-so camera work throughout didn’t help, but the real issue lay with the script and the story's presentation. Again, I did not read the source material and I have no idea if the script differs from it much in terms of pacing, but I do think more cohesive storyline was needed because pacing wobbled throughout. Additionally, the romantic situations that typically drive the genre were lacking. Things between the characters developed fast and then stalled, and then we have a rushed ending and not enough time for the red redemption arc.

I think the point at least for me where I felt like drama well and a little bit downhill was when Shu Lang discovered the extent of Fan Xiao’s deceit.

Too many episodes were dedicated to rehashing the fallout from that revelation, with Shu Lang wallowing in despair far longer than necessary. It became tedious to watch, and the frequency of their sexual encounters, which felt non-consensual, didn’t need that much screen time. While I have no issue with dub-con in fiction(ABO Desire did it right), Fan Xiao became increasingly unredeemable as a result. What’s the point of doing things behind everyone’s back but being a dick to your loved one in front of him?

The notion that Shu Lang still loved Fan Xiao after he was hurt by him so badly was poorly conveyed, largely due to the script's shortcomings. The redemption arc for Fan Xiao should have been explored much earlier in the series.

I basically wanted for things to happen. For situations to happen. For interesting dialogues to happen. But most of it never did. I felt almost like the two of them were just going in circles.

Don’t get me wrong "To My Shore" isn’t a bad drama. It has some good bones, but the execution falls flat. The first half suffers from awkward acting, like they were still trying to get into the characters, though the emotional moments were somewhat effective. The cinematography is low-budget and forgettable, which is not an issue for me if the story is good. I wish the writers had focused more on refining the pacing of the story, which could have led to a more satisfying viewing experience. Some dialogue felt confusing, possibly due to poor subtitle translations. Or at least they felt confusing to me.

In summary, with a more polished script, "To My Shore" could have been an excellent drama. The conclusion felt rushed, highlighting the overall problem of mismanaged pacing. If it had been handled better, I think we would have a little bit more time to see the characters getting back together in a more organic way.

If you’re seeking a BL drama with a toxic relationship that ultimately results in a meaningful redemption arc, I recommend "My Stand-In." There are some true gems when it comes to Chinese BLs but Chinese BLs still have a long way to go to reach the level of Thai productions.

Great CP but the plot is too flat.

Initially planned to put this on hold after seeing the synopsis but i watched this on Christmas day.

The dual rebirth between FL dan ML premise is quite sweet in the early stages, and both are intelligent and witty. The plot is flat, not giving the ML and FL much room to develop. FL is only relying entirely on emotion. The revenge plot is almost a minor subplot; the main storyline is a revenge romance with a mutual pursuit of the ML.

Feng Mingchao and Chen Luxi have a great chemistry. Their natural harmony and chemistry are strong, and their acting is adequate.

Maybe if you are out of drama, you can watch.

Heartwarming action

This was a wonderful drama full of action that still managed to show so much heart.

The main group of Counters is definitely the heart of the series, but I must say that what stole the show for me were the scenes with So Mun's school friends. The way they always stood by him was so sweet and opposite to where I thought their story would go once So Mun had his secrets. And the bullying plot was so satisfying to watch.

In general, it was really smart to blend a supernatural antagonist with a more realistic one — it made the stakes feel so much more personal.

There were some things that were more meh to me, namely the Yung people, who I didn't care that much about apart from Ms. Chu's. For the most part it seemed like they were placeholders for exposition or plot devices, and I didn't really like when they served as the reason for the plot moving forward that the characters had to react to, versus plot developments that were more character-driven (like the detectives investigating cases).

Nevertheless, this was a tightly written drama and I'm looking forward to seeing what shenanigans this little group will get up to in season 2.

what was the point…

honestly, I feel like this was one of the few BL’s that I’ve watched that was kind of a waste of time… the story was just so all over the place and rushed and unfinished I really don’t even understand what the point of the whole story was… If the moral of the story was “money can’t buy everything“, then that wasn’t really proven because Thee literally just bought everything anyway except for Peach and in the end Peach just ended up dealing with Thee acting that way instead of setting a true boundary or leaving him… If this was just supposed to be a story showing the love between two people, then it also failed there since it really didn’t show either of the main characters growing in any way or proving that having each other in their lives was an improvement.

it seemed like there were decent bones to the story, but the whole mafia plot was so confusing. I didn’t even realize they weren’t in the mafia until the ninth episode… if they wasn’t in the mafia, why did they have so many bodyguards and a personal one at that… Someone who was literally trained to protect Thee at all costs?!?? if they weren’t actually in the mafia, what would be the reason for that… If the family is so overprotective, they really didn’t show that either because the “rules” the parents were enforcing were dropped so easily? What was the reason of even having those rules if they didn’t even matter in the first place and they were going to be disregarded so easily… The parents didn’t even try to put up a fuss, so what was the point of the rules at all… I know they had trauma because of the robbing? that happened at the birthday party, but then where was the trauma for the birthday party that peach threw for them? And if they aren’t even mafia, why the hell were they robbed? Was it just a random occurrence or are they actually mafia and I’m just dumb? Nothing about that plot line is clear at all

and the trauma that Peach and Plub had to go through during their childhood also never came back up again, even though it was something so intense… You’d think so closely experiencing your parents death would be something that occurs in your mind more than a few times over the course of several months, but maybe Peach and Plub had some really good therapy that we didn’t see in the show LOL especially since it was shown several times that peach visits the orphanage where they lived so obviously this is a very important thing for him, but it’s never really brought up in any bonding kind of way with the children or even just daily stress from the trauma.

Don’t even get me started on the side stories… they were either completely pointless as well or just dropped before they even got solved. Tawan/Aran relationship was just so goofy and also only padded the plot to give Thee a reason to be jealous of Peach. Mok/Rome literally didn’t even get an ending… dude just got fired!!??!?? and then what… Literally nothing happened to them because the last episode was so rushed and a big huge nothing burger… I almost forgot about that random guy in the first few episodes who was trying to get back at Peach because Thee literally just paid for him to be gone instead of showing more than one situation that causes Peach distress, helping to prove the moral of the story is not “money can’t buy everything”… they really didn’t even show a great relationship between Plub and Peach because I have a similar relationship with my sibling and of course, not every relationship is the same, but as someone who loves their sibling to death, I didn’t really feel that true sibling love, especially since they are so trauma bonded… again just me personally there, but only a few times I really believed they were tight siblings and one of them was the literal trauma bonding in their childhood LMAO

also not as much of a big thing, but I did not feel the chemistry between the main leads in this show. Maybe it’s because the director didn’t direct them very well but I’ve watched FUTS and We Are and their chemistry was very good, despite such bad stage kissing LOL, but here I could barely tell that Peach even liked Thee and Thee just acted like a child the whole time and ended up getting his way no matter what so it seemed like neither of them really wanted to be there in the first place. It didn’t even seem like Peach wanted to get married, especially since in the ninth episode Peach said he didn’t want to get proposed to, but then he was just okay with getting proposed to next ep LMAO!!

I never write reviews for anything and I probably won’t unless I watch another show this poorly written, but really the only other show I’ve watched that made me feel so crazy when looking at all the 10 star reviews was “theory of love“, but that was because the whole show was basically gun being assaulted and treated so bad that it left a nasty taste in my mouth, not necessarily because it was written so poorly… really no offense to anybody, but I personally did not find any part of the show other than maybe the first three episodes to be worth the watch and I was really looking forward to something good happening in the show since, like I said, there were good bones for this show. Maybe if there was a different writer or director or maybe different main leads the show could’ve been something, but it was nothing burger Central. thanks for coming to my TED talk
