Love in the Clouds:A Romeo-and-Juliet-in-the-Sky Extravaganza
If Romeo & Juliet ever decided to move to a fantasy realm filled with glowing clouds, oversized swords, tragic backstories, and dramatic aerial martial arts, Love in the Clouds would be their Airbnb.Except in this version, Juliet is a fallen “prince” (yes, not princess — gender-bending is very in vogue!) from Yaoguang Mountain, and Romeo is a criminal-turned-#1-warrior from the rival Jixing Abyss.
Star-crossed lovers? ✔️
Generational blood feud? ✔️
Emotional carnage? ✔️✔️✔️

A Relationship That Starts With… “Did You Poison Me?”
Our FL approaches the ML not because of fate, destiny, or some cosmic red thread — but because she thinks he poisoned her and is the only man on earth holding the antidote.
Honestly? Respect.
Girl saw a problem and chased down the solution.
ML, who hates deception more than I hate pointless filler arcs, suspects she has ulterior motives.
Both are testing each other like suspicious cats circling the same piece of fish.
It’s not exactly romantic, but hey — in xianxia, “I think you poisoned me” is practically foreplay.
Soon:
The ML tries to investigate her intentions.
FL tries to secure the antidote.
Neither succeeds because BOTH are too busy catching feelings.
Even after ML realises she lied, he’s already halfway to “If she asked, I would move mountains.”
Love is truly the strongest bug, even in the xianxia system.

Love Story: A Romance that's Predictable in Theory, Surprisingly Sensible in Practice
Romance in fantasy dramas is often:
“I died for you!”
“I reincarnated for you!”
“I stabbed my best friend for you!”
But here? The romance grows with refreshing emotional logic (yes, even when everyone is flying).
No car crash amnesia.
No evil twin.
No “I forgot you because my spiritual core shattered.”
Just two smart adults cautiously learning trust, honesty, and partnership — while surrounded by homicidal side characters. The angst is justified, the misunderstandings are grounded in actual lies (not IQ-lowering imagination), and their emotional progression makes sense.
Respectable, honestly.
Unlike certain dramas (looking directly at you, Princess Gambit), this show doesn’t rely on:
- Walking in on ambiguous hugs
- Half-heard conversations
- Jumping to conclusions like Olympic athletes
Here, misunderstandings are caused by actual lies, not fictional stupidity.
Both leads are smart.
Both behave like adults.
Honestly, 10/10 for not insulting our IQ.
****
Acting: Oscar-Worthy Imagination
Let’s give a round of applause to the cast, who spent 70% of the drama waving their arms at absolutely nothing while pretending to summon ancient spirit techniques.
All those:
- Elaborate mystical hand gestures
- Dramatic power poses
- Intense fights against absolutely NOTHING
- 仙气 swirling around them that only appears after CGI team does its magic
You have to be extremely professional (and have zero shame) to do all these movements in front of a green screen.
This is peak 中二病 performance art, and the commitment is admirable.
Imagine doing:
- 7 consecutive magic gestures
- A dramatic stare into the void
- fake-flying like a majestic pigeon caught in a wind tunnel
It’s cringey sometimes, but it’s xianxia-essential cringey, and they SELL IT.
****
Visuals: EXPENSIVE. VERY EXPENSIVE.
This drama is gorgeous.
The skies? Stunning.
The backdrops? Wallpaper-worthy.
Costumes? Absolutely dripping in celestial couture.
I was frequently so mesmerised by the scenery that I had to pause to appreciate it.

Neo Hou: The Real National Treasure
Let’s be real.
I watched this for Neo Hou, and I have NO REGRETS.
He did not disappoint.
Not only is he beautiful, the man’s eyes are weapons of mass emotional destruction.
B I G.
Sparkly.
Reflective like a cosmic disco ball
Every close-up felt like gazing into the cosmos.
If Helen of Troy were a man, that would be Mr Neo, the face that would launch a thousand, no, ten thousand spaceships.
My goodness. This man is so pretty, he sometimes steals the spotlight from the actual female lead. Don't get me wrong, it's not because the FL isn't pretty. It's because he glows like a divine artifact.
China's Cha Eun Woo, I see you.
Dude didn’t just act in the show — he illuminated it.
***
Plot & Pacing: Surprisingly Tight
While the central romance carries the show, the side plots add flavour without dragging the story into a ditch.
No pointless fluff.
No “why is this episode here?” moments.
Even the noble idiocy moments make sense! It's not the usual “I’m leaving for your own good because a random tree spirit gave me unsolicited relationship advice.” nonsense.
Honestly? I appreciate the maturity.
No “I’ll die so you’ll realise you love me.”
No “I’ll suffer alone because I have the IQ of a bean sprout.”
Here, love is mutual, effort is mutual, sacrifice is mutual, and power is balanced.
It's refreshing and I love seeing it.
****
Romance: Small But Meaningful Romance Moments (aka the REAL Fan Service)
This drama respects its women, THANK GOODNESS.
No damsels in distress.
No grand 霸总 theatrics.
No unhealthy simping.
Just two capable people willing to sacrifice, protect, and trust each other.
One of my favourite scenes?
ML gives up his antidote by hiding it inside her favourite snack, then watches her eat it with the softest, most adoring eyes known to Mankind. If I were the FL, I wouldn't be eating. I'd be drooling.
But I digress.
When I first saw the scene, I was like: “Aww, he’s feeding her. So. CUTE. Food is love.”
Me after the reveal: “OH. OHHHHHH.”
Subtle. Intimate. Heart-melting.
SO GOOD. And yes, I still stand by my initial impression: Food is Love.
And then there’s the whole falling-petals-equals-dying setup, which is basically a 仙侠 version of Beauty and the Beast.
Except here, she’s the “beast”: cursed, marked, racing against time
And he’s the beauty, with his galaxy eyes and devastating close-ups.
Ooh, how APT 🤩🤩😍😍
Every falling petal is a ticking clock on her life. And instead of locking herself in a castle and yelling at teapots, this “beast” spends her limited time fighting fate, saving people, and trying to protect the man she loves.
Meanwhile, our “beauty” chooses his “beast” again and again; not despite her curse, but fully aware of it, fully willing to stand with her no matter what.
It’s a clever twist on a familiar trope, and it works beautifully:
she’s the one marked for doom (initially),
he’s the one shining by her side — until he gives up his antidote for her.
And then?
She turns around and saves him right back.
Because she’s not about to let her man die on her watch.
See what I mean when I say effort is mutual?
This is one power celestial couple, and the power is actually balanced between them.
I likey.
No enchanted castle.
No chandelier.
Still very much my kind of fairytale.

The Antagonists: An Entire Psychiatry Conference
Every villain here is either:
- Emotionally unstable
- Power-obsessed
- Psychologically unhinged
- Or ALL OF THE ABOVE
We have:
2 psychos because of twisted, delulu love
4 psychos because of ambition
0 psychos who sought therapy
and 3 of them are related. So maybe, craziness is indeed inherited.
Honestly, if they used all that unhinged dedication and intensity for world peace instead of world destruction, they’d have won the 6 Realms Nobel Prize already.
Instead, they vomit blood, monologue dramatically, and commit war crimes.
A cautionary tale about the importance of hobbies and therapy.
****
Speaking of Vomiting Blood…
Why. Do. They. ALWAYS. Vomit. Blood.
A push? Vomit blood.
A hit? Vomit blood.
A slightly disappointing conversation? Vomit a waterfall. Ok, I exaggerate. But you get the drift.
The amount of haemoglobin lost in this drama could supply a small hospital. Based on the sheer volume of internal haemorrhage I've witnessed, it's a miracle anyone has any blood left for, you know, living after episode 20.

The MVPs: Spiritual Animals with Identity Crisis
Shoutout to the world's most dog-like cat and a dragon that's more golden retriever than majestic beast. These spiritual animals are loyal, naive, and emotionally-invested (in the most adorable way). I'm starting to question all my real-world assumptions about these creatures (both real and mythical).
****
Foxes: The New Gold Standard for Devotion
This drama taught me something important:
Foxes may be the most 情深 species.
Some are loyal like Hachiko.
Some are delulu like Xun Ming (please get therapy).
But their devotion?
Unmatched.
Nat Geo needs to confirm this immediately.
****
Female Power: Restored, Recharged, and Long Overdue
One thing I absolutely adored about this drama is its unapologetic reclamation of female spiritual power.
Apparently, a long time ago, the women of the realms got blamed for a cosmic catastrophe —
not because they caused it, but because a bunch of ancient men made terrible decisions and then collectively pointed fingers at women because…
well…
history has shown that blaming women is easier than taking accountability 🙃
Classic.
As a result, all female cultivators had to seal their power for generations, living under a false narrative of “dangerous femininity” when the real danger was (surprise!) male ego plus poor decision-making.
This injustice becomes a major theme in the finale, and the ML + FL literally need to work together as equals, combining their spiritual power, sincerity, and hearts to break the cycle and restore balance.
To save the world, they don’t need:
- a Miss Universe speech,
- a vow for world peace,
- or any “I just want everyone to be happy” fluff
They need action, partnership, and most importantly:
✨ 心有灵犀 combo attack ✨
(because apparently balanced yin-yang couple energy hits harder than a thousand immortals combined.)
And what happens?
- The world is saved.
- The realm is restored.
- Women get their spiritual power back.
- Gender balance is literally rewritten into the stars.
World peace:
✔ Achieved
✔ Improved
✔ Done without any tiaras or sashes
Honestly, Miss Congeniality could never.
It’s actually meaningful: the show reinforces that power imbalance is a human-made problem, and equality is not just a political concept but a spiritual necessity for the universe to function.
A surprisingly progressive message wrapped in sparkly CG and flying spirit beasts.
****
⭐ Final Verdict
Love in the Clouds is:
✔️ Visually stunning
✔️ Surprisingly well-written
✔️ Emotionally compelling
✔️ Powered by Neo Hou’s cosmic-level beauty
✔️ And filled with just enough xianxia absurdity to remain fun
It’s predictable, yes.
But it’s also warm, engaging, and wonderfully sincere.
If you like:
- star-crossed lovers
- strong female leads
- emotionally damaged male leads who learn to love
- sparkly skies
- sparkly costumes
- sparkly Neo Hou
Then this drama is 100% for you.
9/10 - If you can look past the chronic hematemesis and embrace the xianxia cringe, you're in for a solid, swoon-worthy time.
As for me? I will rewatch the antidote snack scene and stare into Neo Hou’s celestial eyeballs again.

"I would brave any storm to save you.."
This is probably the top contender for my genuine favorite drama I have ever watched. If your hesitating about watching this stop reading and go watch it right now, I promise you will not regret it.
Just to set the record straight I didn't read the novel before diving into this drama and had no prior knowledge.
This is genuinely one of my favorite dramas of all time in all aspects. Lets first talk about the storyline, its a perfect mix of angst, love, and laughter, I think thats also what made me fall so deeply in love with this drama. I experienced so many emotions watching this, cried with Mingyi, laughed with 27 and Master She, and so much more. There was also so many romantic scenes which made this even better. Acting wise this cast played everything off perfectly. Hou Minghao has gradually become one of my favorite actors after this drama, his acting has improved so much and lets not even talk about how good looking he is especially in this drama. Lu Yuxiao also did such a good job as Mingyi and her acting is so underrated. The chemistry between all the leads were insane. Okay now when I tell you this was one of the best OST's ive ever heard I mean it 100%. The intro song and both HMH and LYX OSTs I was playing while doing everything. I'm so in love with this OST its insane like I don't know if I will ever move on. Rewatch value 1000/10, this drama deserves all the hype and imo it deserves more. I have nothing bad to say about this drama at all, im in love with every one of the characters and I do not want to leave my parents Mingyi and Ji bozai behind. This was also the first drama I watched while it aired, so I stayed up until midnight every day waiting for the next episode, I hope this shows how good it was.
P.S. the ending with pictures of the cast during filming was so cute, I am so sad that its over and the pictures only make me not want to leave them behind even more. I've never felt so attached to a drama so maybe thats why I actually started tearing up when it ended.
P.P.S special shoutout to Yanxiao and Tianji they were so cute

Fated lovers in the clouds
This is what you ordered and that's what you get. I was sat for this drama before it aired and after completing the drama I'm glued on my sit 😅😅. I was not disappointed. My Mingzai sailed across the seas and even the far borders. They flew in the skies in between the clouds, their love cemented in the moon and the stars bearing witness. 🤗🤗🤗All casts were absolutely gorgeous and outstanding 😍. They deserve awards for this drama. Special shoutout to Lu yuxiao. She nailed her character 👏

BEST PERFECT SHAMELESS COUPLE
This is the kind of drama that made me watch it from the very first day it aired until the very end without skipping a single episode! It’s been so long since I’ve followed a show this closely. At first, the drama was so funny that I couldn’t stop laughing at their shameless actions. Usually, a drama that starts with so much laughter ends up being sad, but I still decided to keep watching till the end. And now that it’s finished airing, I’ve finished it too and it actually has a happy ending! Finally, a drama that truly made me feel it was worth following all the way through.
There’s one scene I remember is when Ming Yi gives Ji Bozai the sword she made. He kisses her, and she says, “Have you no shame?” That line instantly made me laugh because, honestly, since when did they ever have shame? 😂 They’ve always been so shameless with each other, and maybe that’s why, when they were apart, they didn’t even realize how much they missed that closeness.

Visuals, Acting, Character Depth,
I want to emphasise how amazing the cast have been, especially the leads. They've studied their character so well and really brought them to life. I can't say how much I appreciate HMH's input and improv for some scenes that fed into the yearning of the audience (female gaze oh myyyy)! He's definitely talented and really cares about bringing out the best of Ji Bozai as someone who is ultimately selfless and would do anything to sacrifice himself for the "greater good" and Ming Yi. I love him as an actor and always look forward to these new characters he tackles - the results bear the fruit of his efforts. It's been mentioned somewhere he takes into consideration LYX's comfort too (I think the director asks LYX what she'd want to experience as a woman for moments that would make your heart flutter - then these ideas get conveyed to HMH, correct me if I'm wrong!).
LYX is also one of my favourite actresses and her crying T^T girl is too good at it, especially those eyes! She's very good at acting out these cute scenes, but also in gut-wrenching moments that really make you feel the pain she's experiencing. The scene where she's under the soul-seizing spell and in her limbo, after being abandoned by her own mother, that was so heart breaking to watch when she started shaking on the ground... like that did something to me. I do wish they could go into more of her glory days when she won all those tournaments for Yaoguang!
Not to mention, the intimate scenes in the series are the best I've ever seen in the entire C-Drama world. Unparalleled. Their chemistry is no joke, and off-screen they're quite comfortable with each other too. Can't keep count how many times I've replayed every kissing scene GAAAAH!
I've probably rewatched the episodes 3x while waiting for the final episodes to come out, and I can see myself rewatching this over and over again. I'm a sucker for angst but they make up so fast it got me weak. The best thing about this series is the misunderstandings get resolved quick and things don't drag on for too long!
For an idol drama(?) the main characters have depth and their own struggles which make you really love them both, there's no one to blame. It's very rare for me to not dislike even a tiniest bit of any main characters T^T

MY FIRST WUXIA AND IT WAS GOOD
it was fantastic!!! i haven't watched something with such pleasure and impatience for the next episodes in a long time.the chemistry is chemistring, the main actors played their roles one hundred percent. in this short time, i really fell in love with Ming Yi and Ji Bozai!
i especially want to pay attention to the side characters: the princess and the physician, who captured my heart. this storyline was incredible 🫶🏻🫶🏻
it was also fun to watch Xun Ming, he's a goofy guy and a great friend. It was also fun to watch Xun Ming, he's a goofy guy and a great friend. and in general, all the secondary characters brought something interesting to the plot and together made a great picture.

I dont think i will ever get over them?
Have been anticipating this show for months now and it was so worth the wait. From the get go the chemistry between ji bozai and ming yi was electric. Lu Yu Xiao and Hou Ming Hao were the perfect choice for the casting. I dont think anyone other than them couldve done better and delivered the chemistry they did. Its one of those shows that sucks you in to the story and makes you forget about reality. I hope we see them again in another drama❤️🔥also the CGI was spectacular and seamless 🙏watching the action and fight scenes literally made mehold my breath. I can talk about this show till sunrise but all you have to know is that not watching it would be a shame. One of the best shows ive ever watched in a while and will always hold a special spot in my heart💗Was this review helpful to you?
Bound by Fate, Lifted by Love— A Promise Written in the Sky
Love in the Clouds is the first drama that truly convinced me to watch it while it was still airing — something I never do! Normally, I wait for a show to finish, but with LITC, I just couldn’t resist. The trailers, the clips, the spoilers — they all pulled me in, and I’m so glad they did because this drama did not disappoint me at all. From the very beginning, I fell in love with the lead couple. Their chemistry is simply electric, and the emotions they conveyed felt so real and raw. I was already familiar with the female lead from MJTY, but the male lead was new to me. After watching the trailer, I ended up watching three of his previous dramas — and honestly, he didn’t disappoint in any of them. His performance in LITC completely captured my heart.
I can confidently say Love in the Clouds is one of my absolute favorite dramas of 2025. My expectations were sky-high, and it didn’t just meet them — it soared beyond them. The story, the acting, the direction — everything felt beautifully crafted and deeply emotional.
At its heart, LITC is about two souls longing for freedom and love above the rigid rules of the palace — a romance as delicate and fleeting as a drifting cloud. It’s a story of two lovers bound by duty and fate, yet brave enough to chase the sky together despite impossible odds.
A tale of a promise made under the heavens — fragile, eternal, and unforgettable.

A must watch for all drama lovers
I enjoyed the entire show! What brilliant acting and beautiful cinematography! I was captivated from the beginning to end. The ML and FL were very compatible and showed realistic love and affection towards one another. It is truly a gem to watch. I was completely taken in by the incredible and intricate story line, I hope to see more shows like thisWas this review helpful to you?

I was obsessed over this drama
I don’t normally write reviews on a regular basis but felt that with how obsessed I was with this drama that it warranted one lol.Right from the beginning of this drama, I was obsessed, I think that the last drama that I was obsessed with was a Thai, Boys, Love drama called Cutie Pie. I literally have spent the last couple of weeks either camped out in the common section of. MDL or over on Reddit reading discussions about this drama. Normally if I get spoilers or like read spoilers from the novel which I always do because my sense of suspense sucks, I invariably get bored and then I’ll eventually always interest in the drama, but this was not the case for this drama. I think probably because the novel and the drama are quite different so it basically was like its own story, so while novel spoilers didn’t count. I still like didn’t mind reading drama spoilers either and never lost interest.
Production - I do think that the production could’ve used some work, they’re definitely could’ve been more explanations surrounding certain things. I know this has more to do with the editing after the fact, but as someone pointed out in the comment section when she decides to expose herself in order to introduce him as the new Crown Prince, since at this point, they weren’t together as the leads had just had a revelation about their identities. There were no previous scenes to show that they had talked about how they were going to introduce the male lead as the new Crown Prince. It would’ve been really nice to have shown them meeting up and going over the plan as to how they were going to move forward with knowing who they were now. Instead, it literally just showed the female lead going up to the emperor exposing who she was and then being like hey the new Crown Prince is coming with nothing to explain their thought processes in order to come up with this plan lol. I also think they could’ve done a better job and including more scenes of the female leads background to show that she also wasn’t treated the greatest. As we got many scenes without the mail lead was treated, but then only like one or two scenes to show how the female was treated. As a viewer, I don’t mind reading between the lines when it comes to this, but I know a lot of other commenters would have appreciated having a better visual at what the female lead also went through when it came to her background.
Story - I love the story if the story can keep me so invested that I don’t care about learning about novel spoilers or drama spoilers without losing interest then it gets a high score for me.
Acting /Cast- I just was so emotionally invested in the characters relationships I passionately defended the female lead in the comment section from those who tried to invalidate the characters abusive background. I did defend the male lead but to a lesser degree probably because they did a better job at showing what kind of background he had where is the female lead? It just was only a few snippets of memories here and there. I think that HMH and LYX such a phenomenal job portraying these characters that I could literally relate to them and their backgrounds as if they were actual people.
Yu Cheng An - a lot of commenters didn’t think that he had the experience with the acting chops to play a villain. I think he played a great villain, especially Moore towards the end, there were a couple of scenes where his expression looked downright evil. I know a lot of other viewers thought that just because he has a baby face that that means he doesn’t physically look like a villain? Looks have nothing to do with someone committing evil deeds lol, I actually think that it’s interesting that people think that just because you act evil doesn’t means that your physical features should look a certain way? I think personally he did a great job with his character and that it takes a really good actor for people to have such a strong dislike for that character
Music - I love the music and have already downloaded some of the songs that are now part of my playlist. I think that music just adds so much to the storytelling and emotions that are evoked when the right songs are chosen or written for that drama. Most of the dramas that I love I have some of the OST for and I listen to them regularly.
Rewatch Value - I’m going to give this a high rewatch value since throughout the series I’ve gone back to watch certain episodes or the scenes in certain episodes multiple times lol. 😂

⭐ A breathtaking, emotional drama that reminds us how love can both heal and transform.
Okay but Love in the Clouds really had no business being this good 😭🔥I went in thinking it’d be another “typical xianxia,” and now look at me , emotionally attached, rewatching edits, and smiling like an idiot.
The chemistry between the leads?? INSANE. Like, excuse me, who gave them the right to look at each other like that 😩 The tension, the soft moments, the heartbreak , it’s all so good I actually forgot to breathe half the time.
Both leads ATE their roles. The acting had me crying one minute and blushing the next. Kudos to Huo Ming Hao, Lu Yu Xiao and all the other cast , they did an amazing job portraying their characters.❤️
And don’t even get me started on the visuals, the lighting, the colors, the vibes?? Perfection. And that OST🔥
By the end, I was just sitting there like, “Wow, so this is what emotional destruction wrapped in beautiful cinematography looks like.”
⭐ Rating: 10/10
