PERFECT FROM BEGINNING TO END.
I am not exaggerating when I say Love between Lines is the perfect romance. I am also not bias when I saw Mao Deshu is one of the best directors working today, he has consistently delivered fun, heartwarming and mature stories filled with endearing characters, well developed plotlines and incredibly cinematography. His choice of transitions between scenes is also perfect. He is always planning and creating how to go from one scene to another using the elements present on set. Most importantly Director Mao Deshu always chooses to show, in all his projects but particular in this one, how the leads communicate properly, not allowing misunderstandings between them and emotionally growing, tastefully and cheekly implying physical intimacy. It’s a staple of his work and very few know how to do it so well.
Xiu is my favourite leading lady to date. She's smart and a hard worker, but never portrayed as a Candy-like heroine, she speaks out her mind, marks a clear line that can't be ignored nor cross when needed. As a romantic partner she's supporting, tender, bold about flirting and showing affection. At the same time, Xiu chooses to see life as a glass half full, but she’s not ditzy or naive. She never needs saving, even in her most vulnerable moments, but gladly accepts help when it calls for without being stripped of what makes her such strong and dynamic character.
Yu will also one of the best written male leads in history of dramas. He is not the typical cold and aloof CEO, instead he has an actual personality that doesn’t revolve around his job. He’s approachable, easygoing and communicates properly. He’s guarded but we see how his walls rise and fall depending on the person (Xiu, his friends or business partner). He respects women and that translates in all aspects of his life, such as having an entirely platonic friendship with Zhao, his business partner, a woman he fully trust to take the lead when he can't be present.
When it comes to Xiu, Yu listens and supports her. Goes out of his way and steps aside, so she can have her own space to develop her career just like she told him she wanted. He is emotionally intelligent and mature, so he knows how to show his love for her in the best way possibly.
Zhen was the most pitiful character of the story. He's not a villain but he's not innocent either. However, it's easy to feel for him and his struggles when you see how badly he had it growing up and how deeply starved for affection he is. This was a very nuanced character that deserved better than what he got but it was only right that was his ending, as the drama developed his story with the male lead perfectly. They should have been brothers, supporting each other through a lonely childhood, instead people around them made it impossible for them to ever be anything but strangers.
Mao Sichao and Li Tingting are the best second lead couple as Xiaorou and Gong. They each have their own individual story, as full-fledged characters outside of the leads’ story, and then their own together. Their presence makes Love Between Lines feel wider and more grounded into reality. They don't bring extra drama nor are they the comedic relief, but instead complement the main story.
Xiaorou has her own marital issues that she resolves with the boldness, as a persona who is secure of herself and what she wants in life. If something is not working, if it hurst you, then you must let it go even if it's painful right now. She's an incredibly nuanced character that among her own problems, still found the time to help out her best friends. I am so glad this go-getter of a woman got her happy ending.
Gong wasn't written as the typical rich man either. Coming from generational wealth, he could have easily being the "playboy", instead he is mature, confident and caring for the people around him, treating everything respectfully and helping out when needed. He has an easygoing nature that helps him turn the worst situation into a win, and that's exactly why he's the perfect man for Xiaoru.
Love Between Lines is, without a doubt, one of the best dramas 2026 has gifted us. I am so incredibly thankful for it.

A Surprisingly Addictive Modern Romance
Love Between Lines is officially one of my favorite completed dramas of 2026, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better watch. From the very first episode, the drama completely pulled me in with its realistic storyline, strong performances, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the undeniable chemistry between the main leads. There wasn’t a single dull moment. Every episode felt engaging, emotional, and absolutely worth watching. It’s the kind of drama where you keep saying, “just one more episode,” and before you know it, it’s already way past bedtime.
Despite my very busy work schedule, I still found myself staying up late night after night just to squeeze in a few more episodes. Two sleepless nights later, I can confidently say every bit of lost sleep was totally worth it. As a sucker for romance, this drama delivered everything I was hoping for. The skinship is definitely not subtle.. it’s natural, frequent, and adds so much to the emotional connection between the leads.
Now that I’ve finished it, I’m already searching for my next binge-watch, preferably something that can give me the same level of romance and chemistry. Still, it’s going to take some time for me to move on from Love Between Lines. This drama set the bar high and will definitely stay with me for a while.
Highly recommended. 💖

One of the best drama in recent time
This drama has everything. It's perfectly balanced - romance, drama, comedy, a bit of mystery, special game world inside of real world and so on. There weren't any episodes with cringe or boring plot. The story was so easy to watch and the main (even supporting) characters were amazing. For the first time of my life (and I have been watching Kdramas, Cdramas and other asians series for nearly 15 years) I liked supporting male character. I even cried beause of him.I tried this drama because somebody said it is one of the best healing drama ever and I must agree with that. I fell in love with the mystery game world and the main leads were so cute together. I would recommend this drama to everyone who needs a calm drama with gentle love and catchy plot. And of course I have to mention the end of the drama is not in rush. Everything was settled and it was wonderful to watch it without any regrets. Masterpiece. ♥

Love Between Lines
It’s the kind of drama that doesn’t rush love or exaggerate feelings. Instead, it lets emotions grow naturally—through conversations, misunderstandings, and moments where characters almost say what they feel but stop themselves.
What stood out to me most was how realistic the relationship felt. The leads don’t fall in love instantly; they circle around each other, guarded but curious. Their chemistry is subtle—more about comfort and emotional safety than sparks. You can feel how their bond is built on understanding rather than grand gestures.
The cinematography matched the mood perfectly. Simple settings, muted colors, and quiet scenes made everything feel intimate and grounded. Nothing felt flashy, but nothing felt empty either. It suited a story about people who struggle to express themselves but feel deeply.
I also appreciated how the drama focused on communication, emotional distance, and timing. It shows how love can exist between the lines—unspoken, unfinished, but still real. Overall, Love Between Lines is calm, sincere, and emotionally gentle. It’s not a drama that overwhelms you; it’s one that slowly settles in your heart.

One of the best modern day romance drama!
I seldom watch modern romance because they are dull and mundane. But not this one, I loved it a lot! It feels wholesome and the couple, they really look like a real couple, not just actor actress doing their paid job. Awesome job CXX and LYX!!And the OST, it really does it job like a kdrama OST. Music plays at the right moment (unlike most of cdrama...).
So happy that I watched this drama at the beginning of 2026 after a very lacklustre drama year of 2025.

Wonderful story, acting and ost
Love Between Lines earns a full 10 out of 10 from me.Although it is a contemporary drama, it opens with visually striking fantasy-like sequences in an vr scenery that blend in beautifully and later intentionally lose relevance. I really appreciate that ideas are not overused.
Chen Xing Xu and Lu Yu Xiao share wonderful chemistry – calm meets playful, never naive.
The story feels warm and balanced, focused on the relationship, supported by a lovely OST, sensitive direction and a satisfying happy ending. When something works, it does not need to be pushed further.

Sweet and Heartwarming
A friend recommended that I watch this first since it was already done. I saw that it was the actor Chen Xing Xu from Goodbye My Princess. I’ve watched his other dramas before and this seemed a little different, so I was like okay I’ll give it a try. Not gonna lie, it was hard to get through it in the beginning because they were doing murder mystery so it was sort of slow for me. Things started getting interesting when the ML secretly started renting the FL’s apartment. He was doing this for some inspiration for a competition. The ML plays a character in the murder mystery game. That’s where they first met. She becomes enamored with him that she keeps going back to play just to see him. Little did she know that he’s the one renting her place and he’s the CEO of the company Dynamism. It was one of the architecture companies she admired since she wanted to be an architect herself. She ended up getting hired in his company. It’s really funny how she ended up going back to her apartment and that’s where the roommate trope comes in. The leads were pretty cute. I love their chemistry so much. Hot and sizzling. I don’t know how many times they have kissed here. No dead fish kisses. I repeat. NO DEAD FISH KISSES. Lu Yuxiao sure knows how to play her roles. She’s so cute. I love her in My Journey to You and Love in the Clouds. She always has amazing chemistry with every male lead she works with. I love how it ended, too. No weddings. No kids. Just the two of them hugging each other up on the building rooftop. One of the best dramas ever. Sweet and heartwarming. Was this review helpful to you?

Feeling post-series depression :( because it was so good
I finished watching this series 20 days ago and I'm still not over how good it was. When the first episode dropped, I was searching for a new series to watch. I saw the trailer for this series and immediately was intrigued by the storyline. I watched the first half of the episode and was hooked. I really wanted to wait for all the episodes to drop so I could binge-watch, but I could not stay away from the storyline. Every day, I was waiting for the new episodes to drop. The storyline is something that is not new in the big scheme of things. it’s a love story of a CEO and employee, or enemies-to-friends-to-lovers. But what was new to me is the VR world that the main leads first meet each other in. The way it was written was so good, how the VR world connected into the real storyline. I loved how all the characters had a persona of their own, and it really felt like watching two people slowly fall in love. All in all i recommend everyone looking for a feel good love story with a bit more depth to watch this series.

Main Leads Talk through problems and Stick together
This drama truly portrayed what life can be when there are ups and downs, especially in love. The female lead Hu Xiu and male lead Xiao Zhiyu/Qin Xiaoyi, show that love and problems can be faced together that you shouldn’t abandon the ones you love just because of difficulties you may be facing in your own life. This mystery was truly very interesting. I’m telling you the first episode captivates you get you into the story, the plot, and the process are all very interesting. It ties you in you don’t even want to skip a second of it.
There is a breakup scene in this drama, but it wasn’t a true breakup where they decide to move on and spend years without each other. No, they actually went to go and talk it out ,to face the problem together and the breakup scene probably lasted at least one episode. But it won’t feel like it’s too long because the process in which they find out about each other and look out for one another is really good and it makes up for any sad scenes you might feel.
I will say that the second lead couple is also really good. Zhao Xiaorou and Gong Huaicong needed more scenes together because the ending left a cliff hanger of how they would get together. They’re both such lighthearted people but truly care when difficulties arise—that’s truly something to admire. I really hope they make a SEASON 2 and show more about the process of getting the second leads together because they are so meant for each other and I love it.
To be honest this is the perfect drama for mystery romance and basically games as well. If you’re a person who’s into all of that, you’ll really love it. In addition to that, they have a really good amount of romantic scenes, not just them solving the problems of the murder mystery and all of that, they focus on the main leads romance! That’s what I feel should be the driving force for MOST Cdramas that create a story with two leads in a relationship. THEY ARE THE LEADS and we need to see more of their personal lives together, instead of focusing on external matters!!!!!!
To conclude, this is a drama I 1000% recommend to ANYONE! Please watch it guys🥹

Where Fantasy and Love Meet
I’m a sucker for shows that hook you from the very first moment, and even though I didn’t expect this one to do that, it absolutely did. I went in nervous because of the hype, especially with the sci-fi/fantasy + romance mix, but wow—this show was so worth it.I wouldn’t fully call it sci-fi. The VR aspect at the start was honestly genius and a huge reason the show worked. Those VR episodes were stunning—the aesthetics, architecture, and vibes felt like a Republican-era fantasy blended into a modern drama. You really got two worlds at once. The VR outfits were gorgeous, the game concept was fun and well written, and the idea of escaping real life into another world was delivered perfectly. Every VR scene felt cinematic, like watching a movie.
Now the male lead—I’m so glad CXX is finally getting the recognition he deserves. He truly shined here. The small smiles, serious expressions, quirkiness, and shamelessness all worked perfectly. His broken character was portrayed beautifully, and honestly, he could pull off a psychopath role because of how well he conveys deep emotions. And the wardrobe? Insane. Runway-level looks, designer vibes, full model energy. Easily one of the best-styled male leads in a modern C-drama. Character-wise, he was a green flag with a revenge arc—passionate, layered, and very well written.
The female lead was one of my favorite LYX characters. She was mature but still had a youthful spirit, had a backbone, and went after what she wanted. I loved that she wasn’t the typical shy FL—she was confident, outgoing, and never backed away from him. Her cute moments never felt childish, and her emotional scenes, especially her crying, felt raw and real. Her character was genuinely well done.
The romance was one of the strongest parts of the show. Their chemistry was insane—natural, effortless, and believable. Their kissing and intimate scenes didn’t feel scripted at all, and I loved how the show fully invested in the couple. They didn’t shy away from closeness, and it made everything feel real. If you’re watching for romance, this absolutely delivers.
The second male lead surprised me a lot. I had such a love-hate relationship with him, but by the end I was really happy with how his story was redeemed. His character was clearly messed up, but the abuse and constant comparison from his father made it easy to understand why he turned out the way he did. He wasn’t a good guy, but he felt real regret, knew when to let go, and that made him feel human. A lot of this worked because of DX’s acting—if it weren’t for him, I don’t think I would’ve connected to the character as much. Plus the suits, the glasses, the charisma—he stole the spotlight more than once.
My favorite scenes were definitely the VR ones—they felt magical. The cinematography was dreamy, the production quality was high, and the OST fit perfectly. Everything looked beautiful.
As for complaints: I wish we had more VR scenes later on, the reveal could’ve been written better, and the FL’s outfits were hit or miss—especially compared to the ML’s flawless styling. And my biggest complaint: why only 28 episodes? I wanted more. I never got bored, even after they started dating.
Overall, this show is 100% worth the hype. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves romance with a fantasy twist. Beautiful characters, amazing chemistry, stunning cinematography, a great OST, and no dragging. Easily one of the best C-dramas of 2026 and such a strong start to the year—a show that really stays with you.

Top-notch romance drama with great chemistry
Love Between Lines is a superbly well-written, quality TV that combines romance, family drama, and suspense in a way where it’s just the right amount of everything and you want to keep watching even when you have to get up for work at the crack of dawn. Our main characters Xiao Zhi Yu and Hu Xiu meet during a murder mystery game. Then their lives intersect in reality. As they navigate their roles in the game, they also begin to uncover each other’s true selves in reality.
This part I absolutely adored—how the story masterfully intertwines their fictional interactions with their real-life encounters. Whoever wrote the dialogues between Xiao Zhi Yu and Hu Xiu is a genius. The fact that they could tell each other some things and could be what they wanted to be in the game when they couldn’t in reality was a very nicely set parallel.
You really feel for both characters as you watch the drama because they both have so much to overcome and deal with in their lives. Xiao Zhi Yu has been living his entire live pretty much as someone else. And Hu Xiu couldn’t do what she always wanted to do and things finally are starting to change when they meet each other.
You also know early on—as you witness them falling in love—about the revelation of how they are actually sort of connected through past events. You know it’s going to ruin them when you find out, but you keep on watching anyway through all your anxiety because their interactions are just so swoony.
Thankfully, the hated third act break up did not last long.
The best part is that the romance between the leads is very well executed.
It’s a healthy, mature kind of relationship you’d want for yourself. It has none of that nonsense about purity you sometimes see in a C-Drama where women are often portrayed like they’re just sitting and waiting for that one guy. I liked that writers left it up to our imagination in terms of their previous partners/relationships, if they had any. Sometimes when romance culminates writers like to show women in their 20s as very inexperienced, which is extremely unrealistic. The silly “shy the morning after” moments absolutely drive me nuts.
So I enjoyed the fact that here this was presented to us. We just had two people in love going with the flow and simply enjoying being with each other without being prude about it. Who and what came before did not matter.
Other aspect I appreciated in the romance was how Xiao Zhi Yu recognized Hu Xiu's talent and genuinely supported her, allowing her to shine in her own right. This dynamic added depth to their relationship and showcased a refreshing take on C-Drama romance. Yes, they in general had a bumpy beginning with him being that typical grumpy male lead that felt almost red-flag-ish but that never came to fruition. And I’m happy. There were some hurdles to overcome, his initial rejection of her, to be exact, but I liked that it didn’t take long for things to get resolved. I liked that they both fought and won their personal battles along the way too. I like that she was also assertive of what she wanted.
Oh, and I have to mention that Love Between Lines features one of the best on-screen first kiss setups. I literally squealed and had to rewatch that scene twice! It was very well done. The music, the moment, the emotions, the entire leading up to it, the background, the colors, the camera angles.
It’s also worth mentioning that the backdrop of the architecture business and the competitive spirit that surrounded it was very interesting and added another layer to the drama. I don’t always like the business aspects added to romance, but when they are well done, they end up being quite entertaining and interesting.
All the side characters were wonderfully developed (especially Pei Zhen; he had a great character arc and I’m glad to see he didn’t follow his father’s path) and had their right place in the story. The camera work was amazing, especially during the game scenes. The whole sequence was just so dreamy.
We also did not have any non-essential characters getting a bunch of screen time for no reason just to make sure there’s content. Every scene was important and easy to watch and I did not skip much except for maybe some of the scenes between Zhao Xiao Rou and her husband. I think too many episodes were wasted on their storyline just to set up the divorce, and if the plan was to pair her up with Gong Huai Cong, it felt kinda incomplete because we were sort of left hanging at the end. I would love a bit of a closure for her or perhaps a scene where she meets her ex later down the road and it’s clear that she has someone else (someone better) just to rub it into his face because he did her so dirty. But it’s not something that’s going to affect my rating.
It’s still a 10 out of 10 for me. If you want good romance, watch it. Definitely MY top 10 contemporary romance C-dramas.
