FINAL REVIEW

Characters:
The characters here are just so flawed and complex. Tam and Phi are beautifully written. Tam’s character in the show is mostly mysterious—you can’t always tell how he’s feeling because most of the time, he tries to act like he's Not bothered and calm when he's around Phi but that's just the surface, there are these moments where you know Tam is so worried about Phi’s well-being. And then there’s Phi, who is such an expressive character. Like, he really wears his emotions and heart on his sleeve. Because of this, his character is more open to the audience, and you end up knowing more about Phi than Tam.

I really loved the character Paul because he highlighted how insecure Tam is when he’s around. All of it stems from fear—Tam thinks in his head that he might not be able to take care of Phi because he’s not rich or “better” like Paul. He constantly compares himself to him (also this show highlights a Lot that Tam takes pride in taking care of Phi) 😊❤️. I’m glad the show made that obvious, and the way Padthapi reacted was just awesome (that man is head-over-heels in love with you and they both always shows it!)

Let’s talk about Yong, Nhudee, and Gaogie’s relationship!

If TamPhi is your fluffy, sweet, mature exes who are obviously still in love with each other and the story shows why they end up together—then Gaogie, Yong, and I guess Nhudee’s relationship in this story is the opposite of that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s mature and healthy, but it’s kinda messy, confusing, and complicated in a good way. It shows you why you may not get back with your ex, and how confusing it can be when you are working with them and not even sure if you still have the same feelings.

One of my favourite characters in the show is Rita, not only is the character charismatic, nosy, and funny but she's also give some mature and awesome advice that made enjoy her character a lot! ❤️

Plot:
The Ex-Morning is a story about exes who reunite and see if the flame is still there, with some unresolved emotions in the mix. The plot is simple, but that’s what makes it so refreshing. In Thai BL—and romance in general—it’s rare to see exes as the main leads, so this was different and honestly so needed. It’s a really sweet story that tugs on the emotional heartstrings.

Chemistry:
Krist and Singto are literally the duo who first made BL popular in Thailand and Internationally, and they still have a strong fanbase because of that. They are the first BL couples in GMMTV to act in a BL series as the main characters. Their chemistry is fire. They’re SO comfortable with each other and clearly enjoy filming together. Like I’ve said before, there's a reason why KristSingto are known to have “devil’s chemistry.” Their portrayal of Tam and Phi? Yeah, the chemistry is there and just that good.

Actors:
If there’s one thing about this show—everyone can act. From the male leads to the supporting characters, even the cat Solsay can act incredibly well (in my opinion, one of the best pet actors I’ve ever seen in a GMMTV BL). Now let’s focus on the main actors. Singto and Krist are great at acting—no wonder they’ve won 30+ awards. The way Singto expresses his emotions through his eyes is amazing. And Krist? The way he controls his facial expressions—you can clearly tell what he’s feeling. Honestly, when it comes to crying and sad scenes or any emotional scene, Krist is really good at portraying them.

Flashbacks:
One of the best plot devices in this show. Props to the editing team for using that 2-second gray color effect when transitioning between the past and present. Not only that, but the stylist team also did such a good job making Krist and Singto look really young—like, believably young university students.

The Promise:
Back on November 5th in 2018, GMMTV made a promise to Peraya that we would get a KristSingto series. They told us that everything has its time and to trust them (they literally posted this on X and even called themselves Peraya!).
Fast forward to 2025—they kept that promise with The Ex-Morning, an original written series based on KristSingto’s real life and written just for them (just like SOTUS, but this time intentionally), and even better, they fulfilled so many fan requests on X. Fans wanted a lot of kisses? We got them in The Ex-Morning! We wanted the series to be available for everyone and not geoblocked in tons of countries? We got it. We wanted a wedding—since fans didn’t get that in Our Skyy for Arthit and Kongpob’s wedding—and guess what? In The Ex-Morning, we got PhiTam’s wedding.
We also wanted lots of fluffy, lovey-dovey moments and… yep, we got them too!

Not Only that but KristSingto had said this series The Ex-Morning is a gift for their ship fandom named Peraya fandom especially old fans who supported them since the beginning and when KS were apart. The only thing I have to say is BEST GIFT EVER!! ❤️🥰

The Ending:
Best. Ending. Ever. And BEST. WEDDING. EVER (finally I got a traditional Thailand Wedding) I’m so satisfied with this ending—I was rooting for them to get married and have a wedding and we got it! Also first time where we got a scene in BL where we see them registering and getting a marriage certificate 🥹💍

For me, this series is a solid 10/10 because it checked all the boxes of what I wanted as a fan. Seeing KristSingto acting together again just makes my heart so happy! I can’t wait for their next series next year 2026 😊❤️

One of the better GMMTV shows but far away from a 10...

As usually the show started strong, but while it did not fall of a cliff it was a bit flat in the later episodes. The comedic parts are often over the top as usual and the finale did not catch me at all.

At least the script was better than normal, but of course the predictability was a given. So it's a light-hearted show with few ups and not many downs, on the good side overall. But it will not leave an impression for me. While their chemistry was good, I felt there was not much tension between them and I also didn't feel that longing after three years and the reason was a bit "boring" imho.

It's pleasant to watch, it's heart-warming most of the time, but it misses the spice I have expected after all the interviews of the MLs I have seen before the show. It was just "safe" as usual by GMMTV. Success with the fangirls for the reunion of a fan-favorite couple, earning lots of money with fan-meets, concerts and merch. And that's what's a three billion ($ or €) industry is all about in most cases. Sorry to say, this series is very far away from the 10.0 many have given but we got disappointed by GMMTV much more before. Overall a decent show which can be watched without much brain-power but also a show which will not drive us insane with a stupid script either.

Refreshing plot!

I really missed this couple. They were one of the OG’s and i am very pleased to watch them again on the screen. The story line is very refreshing, I haven’t seen this concept anywhere. It’s kind of, strangers, to friends , friends into lovers, than strangers with a past to finally our plot, ex lovers into co-workers. I really recommend you to watch this series, I highly encourage everyone to support this amazing project as it hasn’t reached many views yet! I also see a great similarity between Phi and Arthit!

Krist singto comeback series

New concept, but great storyline. With krist singto as main actor, the chemistry just over the top. Give it a try. Open your heart about the concept. Not all about ex lovers are bad news.
This story give us the so many feelings but it is also give us warmness about love in dating stages, grown up and when it has to be over. As a peraya I really am happy with krist singto coming back. Hope everyone also happy with it
You are able to watch it on gmmtv YouTube channel. Keep supporting ex morning na

Great chemistry but the emotional mess of second chance romance was missing!

This is one of those "It’s not the drama, it’s me" problem here. When I read the synopsis, I thought second-chance romance...and I was expecting an emotional mess, a little chaos, lots of unresolved tension, a little of that good kind of sting, you know classic lovers–enemies–lovers trope ingredients.

But instead of leaning into all that, I felt the drama played it very safe. It felt like it tiptoed around like it was scared of making things too uncomfortable. Everything between the leads from the start felt very chill like coworkers catching up after a long break, instead of people with baggage and heartbreak. I wasn't asking for a full-on sobbing in the rain or creating a scene in the office but something to show that they have regrets and feelings, either love or resentment, that don't just vanish overnight.
That’s where it didn’t completely work for me and hence the 'me' problem. I had different expectations of a second-chance slow burn. But once I adjusted those expectations around episode 4, I started to enjoy the drama.

The chemistry between the leads was solid. Their banter was genuinely cute and effortless. It didn't feel forced or cringe. If I somehow forget the second-chance lovers and just look at them with an "enemies/strangers to lovers" lens, I would totally root for them. I could tell they were into each other, even when they were just messing around.

But sadly, the chemistry alone can't do the heavy lifting. The break-up that supposedly drove the entire narrative forward didn't really land the way it should have. The reason didn't feel strong or messy enough. It's like we were told, "This is so devastating", but there wasn't enough build-up to justify that kind of fallout and silence. I am not saying it had to be some toxic reason but at least give me something that hurts a little.
It was more like "Wait, that's it ?!"

Another thing that bothered me was that the transitions between past and present were confusing. I had to rewind a few times or maybe it was my tired brain after a long day of work.

Acting-wise, I do not really have any complaints about the leads. I have watched both of them before and they did a good job here too. It was easy to tell that they felt comfortable around each other and that genuine ease translated into their characters and the on-screen chemistry between them. Also, GMM TV had really innovative location names like "Peraya Hospital". Such a cute touch. And the cat was really cute! <3

Overall, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad drama at all (even if my review sounds kind of harsh lol). It’s actually one of those light-hearted shows that’s easy to binge, low on angst, high on cute moments and has good chemistry. The emotional depth and big dramatic wreckage weren’t really there for me, so if you are looking for something very intense, you might feel a bit underwhelmed. But it definitely has its own charm.
I would still recommend it, just go in with adjusted expectations. And if you are a Krist Singto fan, then yes, 100% give it a go.

Forgettable....

This is one of those dramas that I am sure to forget watching in about a month or so, it wasn't bad, it wasn't good it just was...

The twists: Either (some times and) unnecessary, unrealistic, predictable, meeh
The Leads 1/2 oh come on, fine I get it it was for the character development but seriously they dindt have to make him that much of a jerk. The other1/2 was cute as a button but also a oh come on, get some self oh anything.

The most interesting character in this whole drama was probably the cat, and the bosses ex girlfriend/photographer, whom I may have a slight crush on at the moment and would love to see more of.

As for the so called villains they were really underdeveloped in every single way , but honestly I would probably not care to watch their development anyway.

As for the chemistry between different leads, I can't deny its there but I can also not deny that instead of getting excited by kisses, and leads getting things hot and what not my focus was rather on them not closing the fridge or getting bitten by mosquitos in the wild...

So even though I do love several of the actors, and this drams tropes I am sad to say this was just not that memorable...

Relived the nostalgia but that's all about it

Loved it for what it was. I was expecting more bickering and a little coercion to make me angry but it went quite smoothly, without much hassle. The background reason of the ex leaving was pretty lame, tbh love me or hate me, I was expecting him to get sick or something to get that satisfying angst and reunion for some reason. But watching my BL dads back again on screen was enough to get me watch this. But honestly if it was some other couple, I won't be watching this. It's definitely a me problem, the more I age, the more angst I crave.

I'm not pissed or anything but I'm kind of feeling indifferent about whatever happened. Still will recommend to people who wants to relive those 2016 BL nostalgia. Otherwise very mediocre, nothing groundbreaking or memorable about it. The ending was beautiful tho.

The Ex-Morning – A Tender Reunion of Past and Present Love

I didn’t watch SOTUS, so this was my first time seeing Krist (Phi) and Singto (Tawan) acting together — and wow, their chemistry is something special. It’s yet another ex-to-lovers trope, but done with such heart and elegance that it feels fresh. The flashbacks to their younger days? Absolutely beautiful. Each one a soft ache — a reminder of love that never truly disappeared. 🌸

There’s a quiet magic in the way they remember each other. Tawan still buys Phi’s pork sticks, and Phi still treasures their old anniversary shirt. If their love had truly faded, they wouldn’t still be holding on like this. Those little details made me believe in them again. 💔🌙

Episode 8 hit me the hardest — the kisses in the car were tender and unhurried, like time stood still. Phi taking care of Tawan, cooking for him and comforting him in front of his mother-in-law without hesitation, was just pure, quiet devotion. And the hospital bed scene? That small space became a whole universe of comfort and love. When Phi said, “I’m glad I have you in my life,” it felt like the entire show paused for that one soft truth.

I was thrilled they had a traditional Thai wedding at the end — not a modern one, but one rooted in culture and sincerity. It felt like such a grounded, authentic closure to their journey.

That said, Episode 9 did stretch believability a bit. Phi randomly boarding a suspicious boat, then jumping into the ocean under gunfire, felt unrealistic. Most people wouldn’t risk their life — or their partner’s — based on a hunch. A machete threat would’ve made the escape scene more plausible. But I still loved the island scenes — Tawan caring for Phi’s injured leg, the romantic kiss, their teamwork — all of it was gold.

In the end, The Ex-Morning isn’t perfect, but it’s full of soul. A tender story of second chances, filled with nostalgia, longing, and healing. For anyone who believes that love never really goes away — it just waits for the right morning to return.

EX Marks the Spot

When I tell you I missed Krist and Singto, I really really did! Though SOTUS the first season was not a favorite of mine, I really loved these two. Season 2 of SOTUS is when I really started to see how compatible they were. Saw Singto in a bunch of other stuff, being paired with other people and it just didn't hit as hard. This series was such a happy surprise and I'm so glad it was really good too! The story was fun, albeit sometimes I wanted to slap Krist's character. I spent a lot of time staring at how fine Singto is. It was just a great experience!

THEY ATE! NO CRUMBS LEFT! KRISTSINGTO COMEBACK

THEY ATE. NO CRUMBS. The Ex-Morning is THAT couple-core comeback we all needed.
Rating: 9/10
Watched for: KristSingto REUNION + KISSES that finally broke the SOTUS drought
Reviewed by: A tired but emotionally fed fangirl who’s been waiting since 2018
Okay first of all… HELLO? THE REUNION OF THE DECADE??
When I saw Krist and Singto back on screen together, my heart straight-up did the Super Mario coin sound ’TING’. Y’all, I’ve been seated since SOTUS days, and now these two came back looking grown, evolved, and READY TO SERVE US full-course romance meals with dessert on top.
Back in SOTUS, we were living off crumbs. And by crumbs, I mean BLINK-and-you-miss-it shoulder taps and kisses that looked like they were scared of HR policies. Fast forward to The Ex-Morning and KristSingto said, “Let's traumatize the conservative aunties” because they were ALL OVER EACH OTHER. Tongue? Present. Pecks? Plentiful. Chemistry? Still illegal in 47 countries.
That steamy bed scene? I had to pause, breathe, and re-evaluate my entire BL watchlist. That wasn’t fan service. That was a public service.
The chemistry between these two? Still hotter than my ex’s temper. You’d think after years apart the spark might dim but NOPE. These two were out here like, “missed you bbg ” and then making out like they were making up for lost time, which they WERE. You can literally see how comfortable and synced they are. Every look, every touch, every little smirk??? Chef’s kiss. Highlight moments for me?
That flashback scene with them lying in bed, all warm and glowy and soft. I wanted to crawl into my screen and just sob in the corner like a respectful fan.
The kitchen kiss hello domestic husbands realness.
EVERY TIME they did that soft, slow forehead-lean-before-kissing move. Like can y’all just sign marriage papers already??
Their little pecks here and there??? Someone inject those into my veins.
Now about the show itself, it's giving "nothing new under the sun" but somehow still UNIQUE?? Like the whole flashback structure, the quiet melancholy vibes, the parallel timelines, all hit so well. It wasn’t trying to be dramatic for the sake of it. It just told a simple story about love, breakups, and reconnections and somehow made it feel fresh, intimate, and SO real.
The Ex-Morning is like a sad playlist with hot people kissing in between songs.
It had just enough angst to make me sniffle and just enough sugar to keep me from spiraling. A fair balance. Mood swings were experienced. Snacks were thrown.
Also, props to the OST because whoever was in charge of the background music was OBVIOUSLY going through it. The piano pieces? The melancholy strums?? I felt like I was the ex.
A Bonus thoughts on the final episode (yes, I’m still crying):
That last episode?? It felt like a warm hug from the universe. The way they gave us that soft, traditional Thai wedding?? I WAS FED. The outfits, the ceremony, the emotions, pure serotonin. And the little nods to SOTUS sprinkled throughout? My heart grew three sizes. It felt like a full-circle moment, like they said, “We know where we came from, and now look where we are.”
Yes, the 2-year time skip had me side-eyeing the writers for a sec but I get it, it actually made their bond feel stronger. Like, they could be apart, grow, live their lives, and STILL find their way back to each other. That’s not just love, besties. That’s soul-level stuff.
In conclusion:
KristSingto came back after all these years and said “we still got it” and then proceeded to ruin my standards for couples all over again. The Ex-Morning is romantic, nostalgic, and very “what if we kissed in the kitchen at 7AM and pretended it didn’t mean something... but it did?”
Thank you to the creators and GMMTV for not being stingy with the skinship this time. Thank you to the flashbacks for ruining me emotionally. And thank you to Krist and Singto for proving that true BL chemistry never dies, it just takes a steamy nap and comes back STRONGER.
Final thoughts:
I’ll be rewatching this every time I feel emotionally malnourished. Also, if KristSingto ever do another project together, I’ll sell my kneecaps to fund it.
9/10 because nothing’s perfect... but this was DAMN CLOSE.

this could have been so much more

The first half was fan service in search of a plot, just GMMTV cashing in on nostalgia and the fantasies of shippers. And then it found some, and we had a glimpse of what could have been with Tam and Phi acknowledging the pain of their break-up. Imagine if Aof at his best had directed this and the writers had put more effort in, they could have made something approaching the emotional maturity, depth and realism of Moonlight Chicken. Imagine if they had really worked with that 'worst decision of my life' aspect and grappled with the pain which came from it. This could have been brilliant, another series which matures BL into real adulthood.

Singto and Krist are skilled enough to have done their part in making this richer. They sure as hell tried to in the brief opportunities they were allowed. Aof was script advisor as well as producer, should he get credit for salvaging something or criticism here?

Instead of that depth, the plot flounders around with mediocre comedy and a half-baked GL side-plot (kudos to Jamie and Earn for trying to make something of that) with a complication which should have been binned. It dips into lazy lakorn cliches, then launches itself into an out of nowhere improbable twist which was ridiculous rather than lazy, and throws in a new twist per episode to stretch it out to the grand total of... 10. (I'm a fan of Thai genre-mixing and love a good lakorn but they got it badly wrong here.)

It's hard to do slice of life well, but imagine if they had made something special from that instead of using it as filler between the snogs. This had so much potential and they just didn't bother.

Was the annoying bullying from Tae a nod to the bullying hazing in SOTUS? Or was it just there because it was an easy and cliched plot device for the writers? They were clever in using the many flashbacks to up the ratio of fan service with a minimum of extra plot. War of Y did something similar though, so perhaps even that wasn't original. It will make money for the corporations behind it though, and that's the bottom line after all.

The end result will thrill the shippers. There's a lot of kissing and that will carry many through. But what this premise from these actors could have been, if only the creators had bothered to try.
