Most of the series revolved around a fight that dragged on for about half a series.
As Fan Xiao confessed and tried to fix, in every way possible, You Shu Lang's resentment became disconnected and exaggerated.
Maybe that's the problem with bl couples that are too straight or too alpha; more ego, bickering and head-butting, less sensitivity, understanding and acceptance. there's no balance.

- The obsession with smoking was exaggerated and looked like one long commercial for a cigarette company. It didn't look good or contribute in any way.

Dark, Romantic, and Toxic- An addictive and satisfying drama

I am obsessed with this show, so much so that I eagerly await Sunday so I can watch both episodes back-to-back. I'm also reading the translation of the web novel at the same time (and this show is very faithful to the source material: Four-Faced Buddha). The premise is intriguing and it's a slow burn that doesn't feel overly drawn out- the pacing is perfect.

I'd compare it to Revenged Love in that it has a ML who is a walking forest of red flags, but somehow he still elicits empathy (at least for me, your mileage may vary). I still love him while simultaneously wondering how I'm so broken that I can still love him. I constantly question what he's really thinking, and at this point, I really think he may not know how he really feels. (Plus, bonus- unlike RL, no animal cruelty in this one!)

The chemistry between the actors is palpable and the production quality is gorgeous. The framing of shots and lighting are clearly intentional, with characters alternating from light to shadow as they move from truth to deception- this is done seamlessly and feels effortless. The use of a Tibetan singing bowl sound as an omen is also a subtle but effective dread-building device that is expertly woven into the narrative.

It's a dark, emotional, and toxicity-filled melodramatic romance. If you enjoy Wuthering Heights levels of abuse, toxicity, and longing- this is a must-see.

Where's the Hype in the Shore?

I'm seeing 10 star reviews for this and I genuinely don't understand them. The best parts of this show are how well its shot, but everything else was kind of a mess. The plot was a little all over the place, the toxicity was beyond ridiculous. My guy Shu Lang should've ran for the hills so much faster, it was so sad. I always say some toxicity within a plot is fine! But destroying a relationship, lying to someone and playing with their life and emotions. Nah, you can be traumatized and not be a terrible person. I appreciated some growth at the end, but it took way too damn long.

Finally, the Toxic BL of My Dreams !

Truly, my condolences to them, because they missed something life-altering.

Trust me when I say this series did not just entertain me, it changed me. I still cannot believe that I finally found the toxic, manipulative, obsessive, dark BL that my soul had been craving for so long. This was not just a drama, this was an emotional explosion. I wanted to scream, cry, laugh, and combust all at once. My excitement was overflowing, my heart was racing, and my sanity was nowhere to be found. Sorry if my reaction feels dramatic, but this is what happens when you finally find something that feels like it was made exactly for you.

First of all, a thunderous round of applause for the writer, because THIS is how you write a masterpiece. This is only the second BL in my life that made me fall this hard, and that alone says everything. The storytelling, the darkness, the obsession, the emotional tension, everything hit exactly where it was supposed to.

Now let me kneel for You Shulang.
I am on my knees. I am bowing. I am offering all my respect.
This character was INSANELY satisfying. I loved everything about Shulang. His mindset, his confidence, his self-respect, his emotional intelligence. He was not stupid, not blind, not the typical BL character who forgives pain just because of love. When Shulang started holding a grudge against Fan Xiao, that was the exact moment the drama leveled up. He knew his worth. He did not hand over his love to someone who didn’t deserve it. And when he finally opened his heart to Fan Xiao, it felt earned, powerful, and deeply meaningful. For me, You Shulang is one of the finest BL characters ever written, period.

Now let’s talk about Fan Xiao, the definition of toxic done right.
This man absolutely SLAYED the role of an obsessive character. Everything I thought I knew about manipulation and obsession was rewritten by this character. Fan Xiao didn’t feel fake or exaggerated, he felt dangerously real. And yet, I never hated him. Not once. His madness, his desperation, his obsession for You Shulang was so intense and sincere that it pulled me in instead of pushing me away. What truly impressed me was his growth. He didn’t magically turn into a green flag overnight, he atoned. He suffered. He changed. But his obsession for Shulang? That stayed the same, and that consistency made his character unforgettable. The actor ate this role and left no crumbs.

From the very first episode to the very last, this drama gave me everything I wanted and more. The pacing never dropped, the tension never faded, and the atmosphere stayed dark, romantic, and thrilling throughout. This series is unforgettable not just for its plot, but for the emotional weight and intensity it carried every single moment. The rewatch value is insanely high, and right now it proudly holds number 2 in my all-time favorite BL list. It didn’t take number 1 only because that spot has already been claimed by Revenged Love.

And finally, let me say this clearly and loudly:
No matter what happens, “To My Shore” will remain my all-time favorite BL drama.
This drama means so much to me that I can honestly say I would fight the whole world for it. It didn’t just give me a story, it gave me emotions, validation, obsession, and happiness. And that kind of impact? Priceless.

Obsessed is the word

This drama has everything, just dont miss it. I totally recommend everyone of the BL lovers to watch it once at any cost. This series will effortlessly take the #1 place in the 2026 BLs (even including the ones yet to release), I am so obsessed with Fan Xiao and You Shulang that watching the series was not enough and wanted to listen to the audiobook, but could not find one, so i went to the extent of not only the reading the novel but decided to make my own audiobook and share it to everyone who felt the same way. It is not perfect as it is my first time reading and recording and I'm only trying it out, so please let me know how it is. Complex story and Characters - actors and visuals fall short

Overall the plot of this show was very enjoyable, the characters are symbols to a chinese myth of the destructive monkey (Fan Xiao) and 'Bhudda' (Youlang) this added depth is what really made this show a 10/10 plot.

The characters can be more complex and I have noticed people criticize Fan Xiao a lot. I think people fail to understand his character. Fan Xiao is someone who has lived life never trying to do ‘good’ so when he meets Youlang he is very intrigued. This later turns into wanting to be with Youlang but in order to do so he manipulates the people. He admits to his friends he is playing games but in later episodes it is pretty evident that there are almost two different streams of thought going through his head. One that admits that he is loving youlang and against hurting him and one that is reflective of his previous attitude on treating others. He does not know how to love because he has never been loved before after his mother passed away therefore his brain is tainted and filled only with revenge. Although he is manipulative and should not get away with it, people seem to misunderstand his starting point. However, Youlang is just as crazy in the way that he understands Fan Xiao and seems to be okay with it.

Overall the characters themselves are made for each other - it is genuinely a really big pull for this show. They have amazing chemistry however, I believe that part of the reason people misunderstand Fan Xiao and Youlang is because the actors are not able to properly portray these emotions to the extent needed. This is Yunqi's first acting gig so it’s understandable but Hao Yiran has acting experience it’s just that he has gotten an insane amount of work done on his face. The botox face cannot convey the full emotions needed. The visuals are definitely a drawback to the show. I sometimes can’t take Youlang seriously.

I would recommend this to people who enjoy some psychotic thriller with chemistry but if you watch BLs for the visuals (or hots boys kissing etc.) this might not be the show for you.

Lowkey love this series so much !!! This has to be my fav chinese Bl ✨

this show gets a 10/10 from me because of its splendid cast and acting... Like the storyline, plot, character delivery, emotions, background settings, lighting and all NC scenes are top notch. There is something about it that is just so addictive and good. I really enjoyed it, and Fan Xio's seemingly impossible redemption came covered in glory.

Now, let's agree that the sexual tension that existed between them since they met was difficult to overcome. Script, acting, production - all excellent. I love that they adapted a dark love story and it stayed a dark love story - very rare. I can’t imagine another Chinese drama topping this in the near future and it may well end up my favorite from any country in 2026.

The Rare BL That Made Me Question Whether the Couple SHOULD End Up Together

To My Shore is the kind of BL that made me repeatedly ask two completely different questions: How far is this man going to go? and eventually, Do I even want these two to end up together?

This is a dark psychological romance built around obsession, manipulation, trauma, betrayal, control, and a very difficult redemption arc. It is intense, disturbing, sometimes emotionally exhausting, and I still binged all 15 episodes because I needed to know where the story was going.

The story begins when Fan Xiao, the youngest son of a wealthy Chinese businessman, meets You Shu Lang, a pharmaceutical executive working in Thailand. Shu Lang is already in a relationship, but Fan Xiao quickly becomes fascinated with him. At first, it is not even clear why. What begins as curiosity turns into an increasingly disturbing fixation, and Fan Xiao starts inserting himself into every part of Shu Lang’s life.

And when I say disturbing, I mean it.

Fan Xiao crosses serious lines involving manipulation, surveillance, drugs, sexual consent, career interference, and Shu Lang’s personal relationships. There were multiple points where I genuinely thought, There is no believable way these two can come back from this.

One of the strongest parts of the drama is Shu Lang himself. He is a genuinely good person, but the writers never confuse goodness with weakness. He protects people, helps strangers, takes care of those around him, and has an enormous capacity for compassion. He will also tell someone exactly what he thinks, refuse to be intimidated by money or status, investigate when something feels wrong, and physically fight back when necessary. He is kind, but he is absolutely not a pushover.

The chemistry between the leads is excellent. It is intense, physical, playful when the relationship is good, and painful when it falls apart. More importantly, I believed that these two people deeply affected each other. Their relationship changes how both men understand themselves.

The acting also has to carry some very difficult material. There are panic attacks, childhood trauma, betrayal, grief, rage, emotional shutdown, and long stretches where very little is being said but everything is happening in the actors’ faces. Shu Lang’s gradual emotional collapse was especially hard to watch because he begins the story as someone so competent, contained, and self-reliant, and there are points where he looks almost hollowed out.

The drama also surprised me more than once. Details that initially seemed strange or insignificant eventually mattered. Things connected to childhood trauma, old relationships, family dynamics, and seemingly random conversations later become important in ways I did not expect.

One of the things I appreciated most is that the drama does not use Fan Xiao’s traumatic childhood to excuse his behavior. His past explains him. It does not absolve him.

And that distinction matters because Fan Xiao does terrible things to someone he eventually genuinely loves.

That is probably the most interesting part of To My Shore: Fan Xiao’s love becomes real long before his way of loving becomes healthy.

For much of the drama, he cannot separate loving Shu Lang from possessing him. If Shu Lang tries to leave, Fan Xiao manipulates circumstances to pull him back. If someone else matters to Shu Lang, Fan Xiao sees that person as competition. He repeatedly understands exactly what Shu Lang needs and then ruins it by trying to control the outcome.

The middle stretch is especially heavy. It is not boring—I never found the drama boring—but there is a long period where one betrayal, revelation, or manipulation follows another. If you binge it, Fan Xiao’s toxicity can become exhausting.

There are also some very melodramatic plot mechanisms: elaborate schemes, corporate conspiracies, family revenge, conveniently interconnected people, and characters who sometimes seem able to investigate or manipulate situations with remarkable efficiency. If you need strict realism, some of that may stretch credibility.

But emotionally, the story mostly holds together because the character arcs do.

Eventually, Fan Xiao is forced to confront the consequences of what he has done. What worked for me is that his redemption is not based simply on suffering, apologizing, or saying “I love you” enough times.

The meaningful change comes when he starts respecting Shu Lang’s choices even when those choices hurt him, doing things for Shu Lang without expecting credit, giving him space, accepting consequences, and finally understanding that loving someone does not give you ownership of their life.

By that point, I genuinely was not sure whether I wanted them to end up together.

A happy ending is nice, but I always want the ending that makes the most sense for the characters and fits the story. Here, I wasn’t sure being together would mean “happy ending.” Fan Xiao changing did not automatically mean Shu Lang owed him another romantic chance. Redemption and reconciliation are not the same thing.

For anyone who needs to know before starting: yes, this does have a happy ending.

More importantly, I thought the drama did enough work in the final episodes to make that ending believable. I also would have accepted an ending where they never reconciled, because after everything that happened, Shu Lang would have been completely justified in walking away permanently.

What ultimately made the ending work for me was that Fan Xiao finally stopped trying to force Shu Lang to stay with him and gave him the space to decide on his own.

Only then could Shu Lang actually choose.

I finished To My Shore emotionally exhausted, frequently horrified by Fan Xiao, deeply attached to Shu Lang, and impressed that a drama that made me repeatedly think There is no coming back from this somehow found a path back that did not feel completely dishonest.

If you want a sweet, comforting BL, this is not it.

If you want a dark psychological BL with strong chemistry, complicated characters, trauma, obsession, betrayal, genuine surprises, and a difficult redemption arc, To My Shore is absolutely worth trying.

It's hard to put into words

I am seeing a lot of people saying this, and I agree with them – this series is hard to rate. I mean, I finished this series in January 03, and I am now rating it on January 07. It did carry us on a journey, but the characters, oh, the characters. They had flaws that made me hate them as well as having me ask questions like, 'Why would they do that?' But, oh, I was entertained! Fan Xiao is a black flag. The things that he did to You Shu Lang are highly questionable, but he says that he does it for love.

I like the character of You Shu Lang in the beginning, as I feel proud of the way he handles things once he sees the true colours of Fan Xiao. But there is so much he can take of him as Fan Xiao keeps testing him. I honestly did not know how to think about Fan Xiao, as he did change his ways in the end. But was it a little too late? Was what he did previously too much to just be forgiven like that? I personally felt so. But I guess You Shu Lang wanted happiness in the end, and I guess seeing Fan Xiao change over these past few months made him personally feel he deserved a second chance.

All in all it was an entertaining show that carried me on a journey. I may not agree with how some of the things were handled in the final episode but I will agree that these two characters have made an impressionable impact on me with thier story.

This drama shines the light in both the dark and light places of the soul

It's not so much about love, but a case study of OCD and how it effects your life and those around you. How destructive it is....that need to control to keep yourself from being drowned by that OCD. It's about seeing that there is dark and light in everyone and that everyone is constantly trying to find balance in the trauma that life can bring. It's a story about survival, about hope and forgiveness.
