this is the best story i have seen for a chinese BL to date.

my chinese BL watchlist is limited but i know quality, decent, and bad work. i think this drama falls in between quality and decent but boy do i have things to say, lol. overall, to my shore was good.

the toxicity in this work was something of new heights for my consumption. i have yet to watch any leads have such a dysfunctional dynamic in anything, in any genre. without saying for sure, since i lack the credentials, fan xiao was a sociopath border-lining psychopathic. i say this because he just did whatever he wanted to anyone without even so much as change of expression. his character made me hold my forehead so many times in cringe, frustration, and disappointment. in the face fo the person he "loved" more than anyone in the world, he was stoic when he cried, despaired, and expressed disgust toward him. xiao was fine being intimate with him as long as he had said man. his behavior was bewildering and frightening as hell. as badly as i wanted fan xiao to have redemption, he kept doing horrifying crap to manipulate you shulang. it was truly horrendous to watch. i cringed so much until he actually showed he experienced development.

i was happy that you shulang was not written to forgive xiao immediately after finding out about all of things he did. xiao deserved everything he got and more than what was expressed in the drama, to be honest. he manipulated lu zhen + shulang and ghosted him in order to ruin their relationship. the former grievance was enough for xiao to be physically beaten, in my opinion. even his toxic display of jealously in the special episode was eye-rolling. he, however, did not stop at the relationship manipulation but commit sexual assault, coercion, blackmail, & overall abused his power as a wealthy person with connections. the man was the biggest red state i have ever seen. shulang should not have been written to forgive him nor go back to that evil.

shulang's character was genuinely a decent person until he cheated on his damn boyfriend, at the end. why was that necessary? is cheating a standard practice in chinese BL or what? what about sexual assault in BL, in general? it is so upsetting to constantly see these themes.
i did not at all care for hao yiran, at first. his face seemed way too unnatural looking. more importantly, his acting started off way too bland and straight-faced. i thought the leads had no chemistry, at first. he ended up being a better actor than i thought. i felt similarly about yunqi and he also proved me wrong. i think with fan xiao's quite clearly psychological problems, the straight-faced acting worked out. the only bad actor, in my opinion, was the actor for shulang's brother.

the intimacy was not amazing but it was good until the special episode. i do not know what happened there but the special episode was excellent until the kissing and proposal [?] the ring showcase, at the very end, was ? for me. it felt like a lazy and boring way to suggest they were going to get married. i am not for these lack of actual proposals that have been happening in BL, as of late. my favorite intimate moments were when the leads were looking at each other, talking, and touching [e.g. in xiao's car, xiao touches shulang's face with a finger and shulang grabs xiao's buddha necklace + sharing the "rouge" cigarettes].
anyway, the addressing of xiao's trauma and the reframe presented to him was a truly emotionally refreshing moment. it was beautiful and unexpected.

since i am an attention to detail kind of person, i naturally noticed lots of goofs like i often do. i noticed a microphone captured in a shot, a camera caught in a reflection, & obvious & unnatural cuts. then there were cringeworthy things like the fake volleyball game, fake kissing noises, and the way the promised fiancee ran out of the room. also, i caught a timestamp at the last frame of the special episode - that is wild AF. these kinds of things will always be unacceptable to me.
the conclusion of this was also not good. i cannot imagine that for those who watched it as it aired seeing the two reconcile through sexual intimacy. then by the next morning, it just ends with them holding hands on their way to breakfast? no.

Wasted potential in the pursuit of romance

I want to start this off by saying that I actually enjoyed this show a lot at the start! Till episode 10, I was looking forward to every episode release and absolutely loved the tension. It's the kind of feeling you look forward to when watching a psychological thriller, which is why this show did so well, but its refusal to diverge from the romance genre ultimately leads to its downfall. If you've watched the trailer, checked the tags, or even just sensed it from the show: the main couple is endgame and they have a happy ending. Would this be a problem if Fan Xiao, the love interest, was normal or even bad but redeemable? No. Fan Xiao is such a horrible person and anyone who's watched the show can agree. Not only does he manipulate You Shulang and those around him, but he even harms his "lover" directly by molesting him (which is acknowledged by the show). So with all this, it's safe to say that he isn't redeemable within the time period of the show. He doesn't even serve time for his literal crimes yet he still ends up happily with You Shulang. It's such a shame because the most enjoyable parts were when Fan Xiao would do horrible/controlling things and You Shulang would confront him. The show way more enjoyable when You Shulang was, despite counter efforts by Fan Xiao, mostly independent and stood up to him. In my opinion, their rivalry, arguments and all the negative aspects of their relationship stood out the most. It's also why episode 8 and 10 are my favourites because it shows how relentlessly evil Fan Xiao is and how resistive You Shulang is to controlling people like him. To make them endgame, and happily so, is such a disappointing decision because majority of this show displays why they shouldn't end up together. What seemed like a cautionary tale about abusive people like Fan Xiao turns into a romanticisation of it. When they hinted at a possible spark of romance between these two once again, I lost all motivation to continue watching. It hurts because I already invested so much time into this show. The romance was the final nail in the coffin, though, because the weird, and frankly depressing situation You Shulang was in post-episode 10 started to drag on. I was fine with it in episode 11 because I thought they're just demonstrating the aftermath of their fallout, but it was the same in the next episode and the way Shulang got out of the situation was also confusing. The boredom really hit when You Shulang said, for like the fifth time or something: "I can see our ending already. If you don't drive me to my death, I'll drive you to yours". I don't remember the exact words but it was like that. This guy gets reduced to a all bark, no bite character and it was making me lose my mind. Are you going to kill him or no? Not to mention that in those episodes he was just hopelessly sad the whole time and everything was so depressing and I was begging for something to happen.
They set up a bunch of interesting plotlines that would serve as possible exits for You Shulang yet it went nowhere. Like that other rich guy, I think he was asexual (?) which he let us know twice so we'd understand he's not a creep like Fan Xiao, who had some beef with Fan Xiao and was offering to date You Shulang so that Fan Xiao would leave him alone. And then we have Fan Xiao's brother who offered a far more interesting path of leaking company secrets to get him arrested for good. The rich guy was pretty much discarded and the brother doesn't even matter that much, he just put the idea of leaking company secrets into Shulang's head. Speaking of leaking company secrets, the way they separated in ~episode 12 is a little odd. They spent the previous episodes giving us hope that Fan Xiao was on the verge of changing but then he'd do something bad again and it solidifies in the viewer's head that this man cannot change or be redeemed. Then in episode 12 he's suddenly ready to turn his company in and supposedly realises his wrongdoings?? Maybe I was inflicted with blindness halfway through this show but nowhere was it indicated that Fan Xiao was even capable of doing the right thing, let alone doing something that would separate him and You Shulang. It also sucks that You Shulang didn't get out of Fan Xiao's grasp on his own, he was struggling to send the incriminating files to the authorities/news and Fan Xiao (oddly) sent it himself during an uncomfortable make out scene. AND THEY DO ALL THIS JUST FOR HIM TO NOT BE IN JAIL ANYWAY!!!! Just cause he's lost his company and is poor (or middle class?) doesn't mean his controlling behaviour changes. He doesn't truly face consequences for his horrible actions towards You Shulang.
Going back to the start, I want to bring up Lu Zhen, You Shulang's ex. His character was disposed of pretty quick as well, but I think everyone watching saw that coming. Despite being what I'd call a "disposable" character, he had quite the screen time. In the first and maybe second episode, I was still not sure if You Shulang or Lu Zhen was Fan Xiao's love interest, that's how strong his presence was. I knew he was there to help expose Fan Xiao, but I think the show would've benefited seeing less from him, especially after he broke up with You Shulang. He was by far the most normal person there and I thought that the show was a bit harsh on him because after the break up he was just miserable all the time, I could tell they were keeping him in the picture specifically for the Fan Xiao expose moment. He also had a weird side plot where he took up a job that required him to have sex with a female client despite the fact that he's gay. I thought he was a model and it's not like it was ever implied that he'd done this before, especially since it would count as cheating since he was dating Shulang during these modelling gigs. Everyone around him treated it as if it was entirely his mistake but I can't see what he did wrong because to me it looked like he took a regular modelling job for a female client and then was suddenly told that he has to have sex with her. Did he not just get tricked into prostitution or am I insane? It sucked to see You Shulang help him get out of the situation by humiliating the poor guy in front of the client because You Shulang's supposed to be the nice guy. You could say it was a necessary act but You Shulang 100% believed that Lu Zhen was in the wrong when it didn't even seem like it. I could be mistaken, but it felt like us viewers were not supposed to be on Lu Zhen's side. I couldn't wrap my head around why getting seemingly tricked into prostitution "proved" that Lu Zhen is a young and inexperienced person.
My favourite character is Bai Ting. I know there's barely any characters that matter besides our two main leads, and even less so female characters (there's literally just two I can think of), but I appreciate that the female side characters weren't entirely shallow. This show achieved equality by making ALL side characters (maybe besides Bai Ting) give us nothing. Fan Xiao's best friend felt like a gold digger the way he was glazing that man non-stop; it felt like he was hanging out with a dictator the way he would immediately take back any SLIGHT criticism/teasing of Fan Xiao. Fan Xiao's brothers/family had potential but they shut that down quick with the downfall of the company. I was happy to see Bai Ting come back because I thought I was going crazy when Fan Xiao implied that he killed her and You Shulang very much under-reacted. He freaked out a little bit before going back to the usual "I used to love you but now I see your true colours, etc, etc.". It was nice to see someone sound of mind after the departure of Lu Zhen and in the midst of my least favourite arc. She really interested me.
The good parts of this show were not just the well-done tension of toxicity akin to that of a psychological thriller, but the acting too. While the acting in the initial episodes were fine, I think it improved in the later episodes which is funny because shows usually aren't filmed in order. Maybe it was because later on it's more emotionally charged which is what the actors excel in. The chemistry between You Shulang and Fan Xiao during their first relationship phase was really good! The sexual tension, romantic tension and regular flirting was crazy to see. It made you feel guilty for enjoying them being together. Individually, Hao Yi Ran's performance of You Shulang was my favourite. You Shulang in general is a likable character, so seeing him played well is satisfying. The acting never felt stiff or weird, even during extreme scenes where You Shulang would be yelling or crying. Yun Qi's portrayal of Fan Xiao wasn't bad either, but I think there was an order to be as poker-faced as possible. While the smugness of it all is in line with Fan Xiao's character, it somewhat backfires during emotional scenes. I'd say the fault here is a mix of writing and acting, but Fan Xiao would think "I actually love You Shulang" and his face would be very neutral/serious, and the fact that he doesn't do much in favour of You Shulang adds to the disbelief of that statement. I can tell that he's a good actor but unfortunately Fan Xiao is certainly *a* character to play so I don't blame him at all. Then there's the obvious high budget which helped immerse ourselves as the backgrounds, OST and editing were good as well. The makeup was a bit flash-bangingly white though lol.
I wasn't going to mention the adoption thing because it happens at the end and I can't really care for the last episodes but I think it was solely a move to keep You Shulang tied to Fan Xiao in some way. It's ironic how even after their break up (for real this time), Fan Xiao was still meddling with You Shulang's life by essentially making him adopt a kid. It felt pretty pointless and also felt like a move to personally frustrate me because in what world is Fan Xiao a good father? I apologise to the writers, directors and producers for ever doing them wrong. Maybe the true psychological thriller was feeling yourself lose interest in a show you so desperately wanted to believe in.
Overall, would be a decent show if it wasn't so dedicated to being a romance. If it was a thriller, I'd enjoy it so much. There's nothing wrong with displaying a toxic couple, but to act like the abuser is instantly redeemable is something. Besides that, some characters/episodes were weak and the constant suffering of some with no change bored me. I tried to like this show and re-live the thrill and anticipation of what's next but I simply couldn't by episode 13. I guess, to me, it's wasted potential.

I know I am in the super minority with this one BUT.....

I really did not like this one. I know this show is all the rage, and I can totally see why. The acting was good, the characters were toxic but interesting, the relationship dynamics were red flagged throughout, but for some reason, it just did not work for me. I found most episodes to be quite boring and repetitive, and the NC scenes or the physical chemistry did not have the sparks I am always looking for.
Maybe this was just not for me, but I really did not enjoy it. Probably just me though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

"THIS RIGHT HERE WILL KEEP YOU HOOKED TILL THE END BUT READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE STARTING"

If you are here for some beautiful romcom, then this is definitely not for you. I just literally loved everything about this drama. Most of the times, I won't start watching ongoing dramas without being sure about the ending (because I am not one for sad/open endings) so I will always be picky when it comes to watching ongoing dramas. There were many times, i usually dropped watching while they were ongoing because the storyline loses it's shine after specific episodes. BUT this one kept me hooked till the end. Like literally, i feel empty now thinking that there won't be any more anticipations for next episode.

THE ARENALINE RUSH the last few episodes kept me on is absolutely perfect. You won't get bored anywhere till the end.

THE STORYLINE is perfect because you would never guess what FX would be doing next. We would be expecting something but he would be doing something beyond unexpected. There would be times, when Fanxioa will make your blood boil and will make you think he is iredeemable but the end shattered all my believes.

THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT which I was waiting to see from the starting of this drama was the main plot.

THE ACTING. They both did their absolute best for rookie actors, they both did so much research and analysis before performing each scenes. And I think that's what is very important when it comes to acting. You need to understand your character the most to bring the life to those characters and I think they did exactly that.

THE CHEMISTRY was right there on point. I was not at all expecting so many scenes of them to play out so well when I started this one, but they literally slayed it. Their kisses were so damn addictive.

FINALLY, THE WARNING IS, this drama is definitely not for faint of hearts who expect their leads to be perfect, flawless and plain. They both have their own dark side, especially fan xioa is the absolute dark theme coded male lead you would ever see, so read the trigger warning before starting this drama, because I don't want people complaining about fan xioa being toxic when the tags clearly mentioned this has manipulative and obsessive traits in the story and obviously he is toxic. So, if you guys still complain that's on you guys because you signed up for it from the start.

I won't suggest this drama for everyone because this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you like dark romances, then this is your cue to start this one without any second thoughts.

Not just a BL... Best drama of all time

This drama is epic. Will be my all time favourite for a very long time because every scene is sooo detailed and very expressive. I've started watching drama when it was ongoing from 6th episode. I never regretting watching it ongoing. I've experienced that waiting and rewatching previous episodes again and again because each episode is so lit 🔥. I read novel and I'm just awestruck like how can it be like this beautiful. Nothing can be pointed when drama is 100% cast 100% acting 100% ost 100% story 10000% when all combined . I've never watched such a drama .
1st few episodes I've fallen for you shulang like disciple. His characterisation is well written and stable and his morals and values are so inspiring. I thought it would be temporary bluffing of all these morals but no his character is maintained in the whole series. And fan xiao.... if there was any weapon in my hand I would have stabbed him or torture him 100x more than what you shulang did. How can such a person exist . If such lunatics really exist in real life I'd be maintaining 200km distance from them. If they stood beside me at work, I’d quit. If they called themselves my friend, I’d disappear from their world. And if destiny dared to make them my man, I’d rewrite my face, my name, my past, flee across continents, and live a life where they never had access to me. But but but this is only until episode 11. After that he atones and becomes the best version of himself. Such a transformation, turning whole heart of hatred and anger to love and respect. Watching 11 episodes out of 15 episodes still becoming fan of fan xiao just give the credit to the writer and yunqi's acting.
Starting from that accident I never seen him smile and all those smirks and cunningness all over his face is just giving chills. Those pervert things he did is just crossing borders over borders. Just contrast character you shulang what a man sooo humane and warm. All the hatred is not just because fan xiao is bad, it's because I love you shulang sooo sooo much that seeing fan xiao torturing him just lits fire of anger in me. How is he not changing forever. He took forever to change 11 episodes out of 15 insane . Actually make sense because this applies to people too. No one change in an instant. He just kept going worse to worst. Peak was when he talked about you shulang mother's shrine for a minute my heart dropped, how can he go near a dead person that too you shulang's mother. I thought if he really did anything to her there's no going back. Thank god he didn't do anything.
What's fascinating is not fan xiao turning new leaf but how slowly he starts changing and how he becomes a new person. I really appreciate the writer. 1st step was as usual being good to you shulang by manipulating, lying and forcing next he goes guarding and protecting and later watching him from far. Really well written.
15 episodes are just not enough it should be 150 episodes atleast. Cast did a wonderful job no exaggeration in acting and details are just killing. Yiran's face is SERENE. I don't have better words to describe. His face is spilling elegance and class. That passive nature in his movements are so well that I want to learn such behaviour. Yunqi is really handsome but the way his face changes is directly proportional to his acting. At first just looking at his face is provoking me to hit him in the face. After changing I've come to be wanting to console him. And that hair is doing all the magic for him. His body, no need to mention, is so good 🤭.
Shi li huaaaaa.... Must mention him he is such a good friend to fan xiao. Man is going hell and heaven for his friend. How can fan xiao have such a boyfriend and a friend at once. Lucky fellow. He is driver for the whole story. He makes and breaks their relationship. No need of enemies when you have such friends and no need for other friends when you have him .... He is such a friend.
Lu zhen is really unlucky character in the drama. He missed you shulang really a big loss. He did really good in acting and he is handsome too.
Female characters are such a divas. Every female character were so elegant and beautiful. Like girls know when man makes them feel safe.... And that's you shulang.
Music is very very good. Ost is wonderful and everytime their eyes meet that silence isssss 🤐 no words can explain.
I feel like being on a roller coaster😍 what a drama 🥰 best way to end 2025 and start 2026. Hope to meet them soon in special episode. May this drama become super super hit and even bigger success... It totally deserves the best ❣️

That's such a most beautiful show I ever saw the character development and as Shulang said "only you can save yourself" & that's the realest thing one can said. Really loved at and personally felt it. Only if one wanted to change themself, they can do And one thing I more loved this that They show the one's trauma & healing process through it 10/10 🌟

one of my top shows of the year (2025)

i absolutely adore this show, i finished it today and i already want to rewatch it!

yun qi who plays fan xiao was absolutely amazing considering this was his first acting role, you’d think he was a season actor for how well he played fan xiao, which seems like no easy feat considering how calculated and cunning he is..major red flag alert!! (but i loved him anyways, who doesn’t?!) don’t even get me started on their chemistry behind the scenes, insane behaviours got me giggling and screaming.

this story was an absolute rollercoaster but one that i didn’t want to get off once it ended, and i will be forever sad that it’s over and that i can never watch this series again for the first time, however it won’t stop me from countless rewatches.

so glad we got a happy ending for the boys, they truly deserved it after the heartbreak, don’t mind me sobbing in the background after the last couple episodes..but they made up for it in the last couple minutes that’s for sure.

on top of this we get a special episode?

story: 10/10
acting: 10/10

BEST OF 2025!! (After Shine the Series)

WHAT A MASTERPIECE! What a satisfying watch! Played like exactly it should have played. CBLs are no joke! Everyone got their due.
Happy ending and truly just one of the most satisfying storylines.
Truly Wicked BLACK FLAG ML, Bodhisattva partner, and lot of chaos but well-dealt by creators and writers. Amazing story! Mustwatch.
The ML repented and there was real understanding and contrition. Fan Xiao really did atone a lot, although it will take him a lifetime, but still, the love was always there, even when he couldn't recognise it. You Shulang was such a powerful but miserable character but he did not take anything lying down and fought back hard. The comeuppance for Fan Xiao meted out by You Shulang was so satisfying to watch. He didn't just fall back into the arms of Fan Xiao, he made him grovel and work hard years for it.

The production quality was so good, pacing was perfect, acting was amazing, Everything just fantastic!! Better than Revenged Love for sure, I was truly invested and wasn't bored for even a single minute.
No rushed ending like ABO Desire.
It truly was one of the best BLs of 2025!
Kept me on tenterhooks all the time!

I did watch it till the end though...

So triggering. Honestly if anyone has been in an abusive relationship, experienced SA or R*pe this is not for you.
I don't know why did I watch it till the end. I was pulled into a masochistic sesh with this one. Got me really unnerved by how well it was done but the story is awful, terrible & a little bit to close to real experiences.

Perfect

For me, this is the best BL series—nothing can surpass it right now. I don’t even know if something better will ever come. The script, the actors, the music, and the care given even to the smallest details… the series was perfect in every aspect.
To My Shore is one of those rare works that goes far beyond the BL genre, not only telling emotion but making the audience truly feel it. Rather than presenting love as an idealized fairy tale, the series portrays with striking realism how love is shaped within a person’s inner world—how it wounds, transforms, and reshapes them. To My Shore does not rely on the cliché that “love makes you happy”; instead, it shows how love can mature a person, sometimes isolate them, yet still allow them to love without losing themselves. For this reason, the series speaks not only to BL viewers but to anyone seeking emotional and psychological depth, leaving a lasting impact long after it ends.

You Shu Lang’s love is deeply internal and profoundly mature. It is built not on the desire to possess the one he loves, but on accepting them exactly as they are. For him, love means waiting, stepping back, and existing without expecting anything in return. In this sense, the character does not romanticize sacrifice, yet he shows that love can sometimes endure through silence. You Shu Lang does not deny pain; instead of suppressing it, he carries it within himself, which makes his character feel intensely real.

Fan Xiao, on the other hand, is emotionally distant and burdened by the weight of his past. He has built walls to protect himself and struggles to acknowledge what he truly feels. His journey is not toward love, but toward himself. You Shu Lang’s presence is not a source of pressure or a demanding kind of love for Fan Xiao; rather, it is a safe space. This allows Fan Xiao to slowly soften, to find the courage to feel instead of running away.

Obsessed

This story has it all. Obsession, passion, betrayal, destructive manipulation, brilliantly crafted mind games, schizophrenia, over inflated ego, love and character development.

The story is a must watch and there is no other way one can understand the plot without watching it.

It starts with manipulation and ends with humility for our younger ML (burnt to oblivion black flag). He learns the hardest way how love is to be earned and given. And truly deserves the pain and heartbreak he endured. Our older MC (green flag) is a worthy opponent. He doesn’t let our ML get away with it. He suffers greatly, but brings his lover/manipulator down to his knees and ultimately escapes. He takes his lover back on his own terms and only after the both of them have healed.

Theirs is a love story fraught with way too many unforgivable blows, but somehow manages to redeem itself and heal. The emotional damage is real and lasting. But the story line is way too captivating and the leads far too well written to be not obsessed over.

Both the actors did a phenomenal job and deserve high praise. Their chemistry is off the charts, as is their respective skills. The script writer/s, author, director and production team worked brilliantly. It’s a 10/10 for me.
