WORST KDRAMA EVER

Idk even know where to begin. My bf and i love the movie "life as we know it" and in general i love kdramas so when i saw our universe and they have a similar plot i was so excited. THIS HAD SM POTENTIAL and everything went down the drain. Im only giving this drama a 2 bc of the uncle and woojoo but other than that no. Atp i should the writer and director should quit. Worst story ever. They couldve just followed the plot of the movie they didnt even prolong the love triangle there?!?! What is it with kdrama family dramas and forcing love triangles bruh. This story is supposed to have much more depth to the leads going through grief together, figuring out their new life with their nephew.. NOT THE FL FLIRTING AROUND W HER BOSS. The aunt who wanted custody doing nothing and the uncle who didnt want custody doing EVERYTHING like make it make sense. Like how are u gonna salvage the last few episodes if theres no relationship built upon the fl and ml...atp just choose the sl because they had more progess lmfao. Such a wasted storyline and kdrama. It was bae in hyuks chance to show his main lead potential with a good storyline after cheer up.

A love triangle disguised as a found family show.

So the show itself had a lot of potential and the initial 4 or so episodes are pretty good. But then the love triangle well it kind of ruins it. Not to be dramatic the show had betrayed it's own audience. No longer a show about a child care but one about a love triangle and a child as an accossery. The story had potential with found family vibes and exploring each character's trauma and regrets but no we are wasting time on a stupid and infuriating love triangle.
Characters
Woo Hyeon Jin ( fl ) - She is not well written her regrets about her sister aren't explored enough. The problem with her is that she makes a few claims of what she would do but doesn't follow through them. She is clearly not fit to be the baby's guardian, she can't even take care of herself. She does have her positives though like I liked how she made porridge for the ml when he was sick and she isn't a bad or malicious person. But her inability to clearly reject the ml while knowing that he hates waiting is my main issue. Her trying to impress her boss and her antics were annoying. I don't believe she had to have agreed to date the ml but when she was actively goes on dates with sml it gets frustrating.
Seon Tea Hyeong ( ml ) - easily the better written character out of the main characters. His character is well explored . He has a very good character arc from going from this jerk who didn't want anything to do with the baby to adoring him so dearly. What I like about him is that his care and love for the fl and baby are separate. I wish we could have explored a bit more of the photography a bit more since well I feel like that industry isn't represented in much depth in media. Also his boss was such a diva. My issue with this character comes in the later episodes where he is almost portrayed as a hopeless romantic loser though I absolutely love the cute scenes between him and fl but the love triangle also indirectly hurts his character writing mainly we get too much of it. His scenes with the baby are peak easily the best scenes in the entire show. I can tell why the baby was so attached to him. He is unintentionally very good with the baby.
Park Yun Seong ( sml ) - would have liked him in any other show but not this one. Okay I get it he likes the fl but he keeps her late even after he finds out she has a baby to take care of. He doesn't care for the baby the baby is just a tool for him to impress her. The reason why his moments don't hit much with the fl is because it's less about action more about throwing money and making it appear as if he cares for the baby. The car seat scene is a good example it was clear it wasn't care. He also lacks chemistry with the fl. He has better chemistry with ml than the fl and all they did was fix a door.
Seon U Ju ( baby ) - the star of the show and probably the reason why people continue to watch the show. He does his job well cute great chemistry with the leads. Really expressive as he is a baby he doesn't have much of a character arc but I wish we could have explored more of his trauma like he was diagnosed to have some psychological problems. But I wish we were shown these problems. Like him reacting weirdly to noise and the leads unsure what to do.

Improvements for the show ( based on my opinion)
1. Just focus on the ml and the baby. - this would have made the show stand out against most of the other childcare shows which also have heavy emphasis on romance.
2. Focus more on the characters psychology and trauma - this would have given the drama without the need of romantic plots.
3. Show the full regaining of the ml's love of photography - from hate to just to keep them a float to genuine passion.
4. Show more of his friends - they are genuinely funny and they could have a brother like bond with the ml highlighting a past he has lost.
5. Make the father more manipulative and a genuine threat - he shouldn't be a threat like he is threatening the baby's life but more of a psychological manipulator kind someone who makes the ml question his credibility as a guardian.
6. Bit more focus on the photography industry - we could see how he uses lightning how he gets clients and methods he uses for exposure.
7. More scenes in his childhood with his brother - this could be triggered by things the baby does. He could feel resentment and sorrow when the baby reminds him of his brother, he could feel self pity when the baby reminds him of himself.

Don't even bother with it

I tried, I really did but this is a horrible drama. The best thing about it is woojoo and maybe the ml. God this drama has everything I hate about dramas, an awfully written annoying fl with no boundaries, an annoying 2ml that gets too much screentime and the most irritating type of love triangle there is.

The story has not progressed, in fact it got worse as it went on and it's become unbearable to continue, this could've been a great drama had it focused on becoming a family with woojoo and the fl and ml slowly falling in love but the writing is so horrible, it's like all cliches put together but done in the worst possible way too. The writer nuked the story and completely destroyed the fl's character so badly that she has chemistry with absolutely no one and I don't even want to see her with ml anymore, I'm just irritated. Honestly what a waste because the premise was great, and baby was amazing. May this screenwriter never write another script again, who tf is wanting her godawful scripts?

The found-family haven I desperately needed

Overall, I really enjoyed this drama. I’m a sucker for found-family tropes, and this show delivers that beautifully.

The story centres on estranged siblings-in-law Hyeon Jin and Tae Hyeong, who are brought together by tragedy to raise their nephew, Seon U Ju. It’s a lovely slice-of-life narrative where the main plot revolves around two people raising a baby that isn’t theirs, and in the process, they end up falling in love with each other.

The sweetness is overwhelming; baby Seon U Ju is adorable, and the relationship between Hyeon Jin and Tae Hyeong develops nicely. Their journey includes the expected highs and lows, which add depth to the love they share.

However, I did have one issue with the addition of Park Yun Seong. I understand the intention to create a love triangle to introduce friction between the main leads, but the execution felt excessive. At one point, Hyeon Jin seemed to have more chemistry with Yun Seong than she did with Tae Hyeong, which felt odd and frustrating as this tension persisted almost until the end. Additionally, the scene involving child services, while necessary for a show like this, felt exaggerated and out of place within the whole plot. I wished it had been modified to focus more on how much they care for the child, rather than on neglect and abuse, which wasn’t applicable in this case.

But, despite these issues, I still loved the drama. They didn’t diminish the overall happiness I felt while watching. I would definitely recommend it!

NOT PERFECT BUT OK

A drama presented as family-friendly and romantic, which had been on my watchlist for a long time. Between the cast, a plot that seems likely inspired by Life as We Know It, and the drama's carefully chosen color palette, everything pointed to a sure thing.

I was quickly drawn in, touched by the connection between the two leads and the baby. Even though I know that such a young cast can be a double-edged sword for ratings—which the results in South Korea seem to confirm—I still kept watching, as their chemistry was so magnetic and heartwarming.

However, some flaws eventually emerged. The second lead became particularly omnipresent. While I was delighted to see Park Seo Ham in a drama again, his character sometimes took up too much space, encroaching on the development of the main romance.

Then another flaw became apparent: the educational aspect, though central, seemed present without truly being so. The child often took a backseat, entrusted to various strangers, while work and the love triangle increasingly dominated the young woman's life. It was at this point that many viewers lost interest.

Personally, I persevered, convinced that the drama would eventually redeem itself. And indeed, it did… late, very late indeed—but the wait was worth it. Once the romantic entanglements were finally resolved, and after a few family dramas involving the lead's father, the story finally tackled a crucial issue: child custody and the legitimacy of raising the child.

These last two episodes managed to touch my heart and right the ship, delivering the emotion we'd been waiting for from the start.

So yes, it's not perfect. Yes, some viewers didn't connect with the cast or the sometimes disjointed storytelling. But it's far from a disaster, especially with such a touching ending. A must-see drama… even if it might not be one you'll rewatch. ✨

Harsh Reviews a Surprise. One of my favorite tropes and it is relatively rare.

My rating 9.5/10

This is a sweet, compelling story about two people who get thrown together to raise a child that isn’t theirs. The romance feels completely believable, the leads have fantastic chemistry, and the toddler is just adorable. I really appreciated that the show doesn’t make you get super attached to the parents - it's sad but not devastating because you really do not get too attached to them. It’s the perfect mix of heartwarming moments, realistic co-parenting struggles, and slow-burn romance that leaves you smiling by the end. If you love forced-proximity tropes, unique parenting situations, or just good old-fashioned thrown-together romances that feel genuine, this one is an easy recommend. It’s not perfect, but few are, but it is that unique show where a toddler gets a lot of center stage. So, the cuteness alone is worth the watch. The fact that it is a heartwarming romance is icing on the cake. I would watch it again and would recommend it to other fans of these types of series.

Spoilers

I loved how it started with Woo Hyun-jin and Seon Tae-hyung not really liking each other at all. He was also pretty indifferent to baby Seon Woo-ju at first because of his complicated history with his older brother Seon Woo-jin, but he’s still a decent guy at heart, so he steps up to help her anyway. Reluctantly at first and on a case-by-case basis. But then his apartment plan falls through, so he selfishly decides to stick around for the co-living arrangement, and it all fits his opening character so perfectly.

I was afraid it would be sad knowing that the parents die but I appreciated that we didn’t get overly attached to Seon Woo-jin and Woo Hyun-ju before the car accident took them out. Their presence in the story was relatively brief - not enough to get so attached that it feels personal when they die. Instead, it kept the focus on the two leads and little Woo-ju right from the jump. Since we already knew about the baby from the previews and synopsis I wish it would have shown him a bit more with his parents. It made it feel like he just came out of nowhere.

All the characters were super well-developed, especially the little found-family group at Yu-seong Villa. Those apartment complex neighbors really came through in the clutch when the custody/guardianship drama kicked off and people were trying to claim Woo Hyun-jin didn’t deserve to keep Woo-ju. What I thought was kind of odd, though, was that Seon Tae-hyung didn’t also apply for guardianship himself. I kept waiting for some dual-guardianship setup, or for them to realize marriage would make it official. The ending makes it pretty clear they’re together now, which is sweet, but I’m the type who loves a little more permanence—I would’ve eaten up an engagement or something concrete! And her threat of losing guardianship would have been an obvious push toward having a permanent relationship and more settled home environment for Woo-ju. I honestly thought that was where it was going.

The one big thing that bugged me (and I know a lot of viewers felt the same) was how much screen time they gave to the second guy, Park Yoon-seong. They almost built a whole side romance between Woo Hyun-jin and her college senior/first love. I get that she was uncertain and this was her first chance in years to reconnect with someone from her past, but after that much time apart, it just doesn’t track that you’d suddenly catch feelings stronger than the ones for the guy you’re literally surviving daily life and raising a toddler with. It started feeling like a real distraction, and yeah, I was sitting there worried she might actually end up with Yoon-seong for a minute. As a viewer who came for the co-parenting cuteness, I would’ve much rather had more scenes of Woo Hyun-jin, Seon Tae-hyung, and little Woo-ju’s adorable everyday interactions. Every time Woo-ju was on screen I was happy to see him - cute baby fever hit hard! The unnecessary focus on her relationship with her first love, and the duration of it, also came off a bit dishonest because it felt like she was stringing both guys along for a while.

Her almost losing guardianship was crazy yet real. The mistakes Woo Hyun-jin made were totally normal new-parent stuff—not everyone realizes how fast an almost-two-year-old can get into trouble. For someone who had zero experience, she was actually doing an amazing job overall. If anything, she was a little more prone to those accidental slip-ups than Tae-hyung just because she was still adjusting to the “mom” role, but nothing was ever intentional and she was always devastated when it happened. The lost in the mall happens to the best of parents. When you have multiples where it is literally impossible to keep all the babies in sight - that point gets driven home even more. I used to help my cousin with her twins and, when I babysat, I would have to pick a twin at times Both are headed for something, and you are one person. They actually portrayed the child protective agency stuff pretty accurately (at least compared to how it works in the US)—sometimes they come down hardest on the people who are genuinely trying their best. I was surprised the guardianship wasn’t more automatic, especially since Korean dramas usually show moms giving up babies so easily, yet here you have two people who clearly love Woo-ju and are doing everything right, and they still got grilled. They were even nitpicky about the leads working, which felt backwards—like, don’t you want them earning money to support the kid?

The situation with Tae-hyung’s dad, Seon Gyu-tae, wasn’t a huge shock. Crappy parents rarely do a full 180. They took it slow and cautious, which felt realistic, and I liked that Woo Hyun-jin owned up to feeling guilty for pushing Tae-hyung when he should’ve just trusted his own instincts.

The backstory with Seon Woo-jin was played so beautifully. Yeah, Tae-hyung had been giving him the cold shoulder, but the reason was totally valid—he was trying to protect his little brother all along. As a kid who felt abandoned, Tae-hyung’s reaction made complete sense; you’re not thinking logically about hidden motives at that age.

So, my only major criticism is that whole detour into the almost-romance with Park Yoon-seong. It just felt unnecessary given this romance is about four episodes shorter than what used to be traditional k-drama length dramas. I would’ve traded every bit of it for more of the cute trio moments between Woo Hyun-jin, Seon Tae-hyung, and Woo-ju. I couldn’t get enough of those!

Overall, I’d recommend Our Universe to anyone who loves romances with forced situations, unique parenting setups, or “thrown together and slowly falling for each other” vibes. The romance is genuinely cute and heartwarming, the baby steals every scene, and it wraps up happy.

Cute moments but an unbalanced story

I enjoyed it overall, but I did feel a bit disappointed with how the story was balanced. The drama has a lot of charm and is still a pleasant watch. And honestly, the baby… our little star, our universe, was so incredibly cute that every scene with them instantly melted my heart. Moments like that added so much warmth to the story.
However, a lot of space was given to the second lead, sometimes so much that the main couple felt slightly overshadowed. I kept expecting more development and emotional growth between them, but their relationship didn’t evolve as much as I hoped. In the end, I still enjoyed it, I just wish the narrative had focused a bit more on the main couple and the beautiful little family they were building together.

I'm surprised the SML wasn't the actual ML.

I first started this drama with high expectations. The baby was really cute, and I wanted to watch it to see how the baby acts, and surprisingly it was better, even better than the FL if I may add at this point. The FL didn't really portray Hyunjin as I wanted her to be. But, the main problem was the SML. Why is this guy everywhere??? Look, this show had potential if they cut down the SML screen time, and maybe changed the cast except for Tae-hyung because he's a good character. Everytime I hear the words, "Let me drive you home," from the SML I lose atleast 20 strands of hair from stress. Rewatch value is extremely low for this reason, and I usually rank shows atleast a 8, because I feel bad, but I genuinely don't do bad for this one. Woo-joo and his uncle carried the whole show. Also, I feel like the FL wasn't really showing her affection with Woo-Joo as much as her character should've portrayed it. Anyway, thats all!

Boring

I just can't get into the storyline if you get what i mean?

It's so boring and i do find the FL annoying. I thought they were supposed to do it together but from what i see..
It seems like only the ML is doing everything
Look okay i didn't get to the part with the SML but i don't think it's worth my time.
I do find Woo-joo cute or whatever his name is. Everything is like a mess idk
so much is happening and they aren't communicating enough.

Like she just gives him to the ML and goes to work?? As if it's not her responsibility, Look okay i do kind of understand it but i think she should've put more attention to it.
That's why i'm dropping the drama

A bowl full of problems.

Okay, first of all, we need to talk about the main problem. The use of AI to make the intro, they got such expensive actors, Bae In-Hyuk and Roh Jeong-Eui. Mind you, actors of successful TV shows, but couldn't pay for someone to make the intro?!

Secondly, the TV lies about the show; they told us it would be about them, they never even mention the Second male lead, they promised us a story about a baby losing his parents and the male and female lead raising him, where did the second male lead come from, and why did he take 90% of the love story? I feel like they mixed him and the male lead in the middle of the drama?

And the cherry of the pie- Wi joo, they could have made the show about him, and no one would complain, that's how cute the baby is. Why even have an expensive actor for the male lead if you are not going to give him the love story?

But for the characters, I can't complain- Tae Hyeong had a great backstory and character build, Hyun-ju too, but who has asked for the second lead? After seeing true beauty and love song for illusion, you would understand what a real love triangle is.

The FL feels flat

i think the story meant to be like the movie "Life as We Know it" but i dont know this drama feels bland and a bit rush. The movie i was mentioned was also have love triangle but the second ML plot was boring. the FL char is quite flat, i saw a couple of her drama i think her acting is not too versatile. The ML hmm....not bad, but his char feel similar like in cheer up. And the ending, hmmmm i think they can wrapped it better. Watch this drama only when you need a light drama. for me once is enough.

I wish I could've loved this drama

When I first read the synopsis, I thought I was getting some sort of adaptation of the movie Life as We Know It. I was so thrilled, because I was looking for a drama that wasn't just about romance.

The first episode was okay. The introduction of the characters was nothing really special, but I didn't mind. The little actor who played Woo Joo is truly the best. What a talented little kid he is. At times I even thought they used AI to alter his expressions.
All in all, episode 1 was a promise.

After episode 1, the story started to progress a bit. And then it went downhill.

Seeing the type of drama, we as viewers already expected the ML and FL to become an item, so I was unpleasantly surprised when they introduced some idiotic love triangle, starring a so-called perfect 2ML, who lacked any depth whatsoever. And why were they even focusing on this so much? The camera kept doubling back on "romantic" moments between FL and 2ML.

Honestly, just why?

Why couldn't this have been a show about two people who weren't remotely ready to become parents, struggling to keep it together? Why wasn't this about exploring family dynamics outside of conventional families? Why wasn't this a slice-of-life (à la Something in the Rain) type of drama highlighting the real-life struggles all parents go through? Why didn't we get a drama exploring real enemies becoming partners due to a greater good? Also, FL was struggling money-wise, how in the hell did she "manage so well" after having another mouth to feed, and pay for daycare?

The characters: After Woo Joo, the ML is the better character. At first he seemed like an asshole, but he was pretty consistent. He knew how to communicate his needs and feelings. Getting to know about his trauma made him more relatable. And due to that trauma he is kind of neurotic, wanting his surroundings to be just so. (I recognize this, because I am the same, we have issues, believe me). I hated that they didn't explore this more. All of a sudden this neurotic person just accepted his fate/new surroundings and went about his day as if nothing happened. Then we have a FL who was written so flat that I didn't really understand what made her tick. I truly feel the character lacked something. I found her at times to be really aloof or uninterested.
I hated that she took on the role of guardian, but then just forgot about being said guardian all the time. Yes, we all have to work, but come on. What would she have done if uncle wasn't there?

Maybe the actress lacks experience, I didn't really see or feel her pain, even though her whole world imploded. Also there was no chemistry. Not between ML and FL, or FL and 2ML. The common denominator being FL.

All in all, I was truly disappointed. The writers had such a good chance to introduce something new. Instead they went for the most basic trope imaginable and executed it in the worst way possible. Truly a shame.

That being said, I also want to address the production. Did they hire rookie interns to do the editing?

Things I noticed: 2ML and FL went on a date, we see them driving at night on their way to the date. Once they arrive at the place of the date, it's daytime again. We see ML and FL at a park with the baby. The baby is quietly playing somewhere while they talk, once the camera pans out, the baby is gone. The baby just made a mess of uncle's house, the baby is dirty all over. When uncle carries him out of the house, his clothes are miraculously clean again. I'm sure there were more, but I stopped noticing so I could finish the drama and go on with my life. But it's 2026, these mistakes aren't supposed to be this big.

Anyways, I'm not going to keep on writing. If you don't mind dramas where the focus shifts mid-drama, give this a try. Otherwise, just sit this one out and go on about your day.
