Youthful and sweet : loved the friendship aspect

This high school BL is quite classical in its storyline : it is all about the budding romance between introverted Hioki Asahi and popular Watarai Tsukasa that start with a school trip in the beginning of their second year of high school. They go together through all the cliche milestones of Japanese school romance but it is done in such a lovely way that it hits all the marks.

The romance was really cute and fluffy : it was a very appeasing watch, devoid of angst and full of green flags. What I loved the most was the group friendship : seeing introverted hero grow in his own skin and feel comfortable with those seemingly unapproachable "F4-type" guys was really satisfying. I loved how the friends acted regarding the main couple romance, it was a breath of fresh air to see them all so open and cool about it.

Acting-wise, I particularly liked Fujimoto Kodai who played Hioki Asahi. He acted well the innocent side of his character with his relatable inner voice. Sometimes that kind of role can be annoying but here, he really found a nice balance, never feeling too weak or wishy-washy. I have more mixed feelings with Kan Hideyoshi who plays Watarai Tsukasa. Sometimes, his fixed glaring eyes on Hioki felt more unsettling than lover like (even if I guess he was aiming for obsessive vibe, it felt a bit forced). Chemistry was alright but not amazing, most of the story is very platonic in itself and sweet but I wish the steam would have been increased as the relationship progressed rather than remaining at a very mild temperature level. Not necessarily because I wanted NSWF scenes but I think the progression on the way they looked at each other peaked a bit too soon and that it never really leveled up as the story progressed.

I enjoyed overall the production value, it was quite standard for high school romance dramas. I liked a lot the opening generic song from DXTEEN, such a earworm.

I would recommend this to people that are looking for a sweet high school BL. It is cute and fluffly, while very classical in its story, it hits the right marks and provide a satisfactory viewing experience.

This series is very cute and fluffy ?♥️?

The main characters are so cute together 🥰♥️😍 I really love this school plot from Japan. The actors are so good looking and the acting was awesome.

I sometimes wish life will be as easy as this series. Though It was very short I'm really sad 😭😢😕 why only 10 episodes but overall I enjoyed it.

I kind of wish they solved his popularity problem and gave us a reassuring ending that his partner didn't get bashed by his fans. It kind of gave an open ending which is not bad I hope there is a special episode that we can watch.

Thank you for this series lots of love ❤️🙏🥰🥰😍😍

Really cute and fluffy

This is a great BL about two high schoolers that become friends and fall in love, in a less toxic version of Boys Over Flowers. It might sound simple as a premise, but this Japanese BL conveys those emotions of first love and yearning through Kiyoi and Watarai very well. The supporting group of friends are good ans characters and a plus for this series. The only drawback for me is that the plot can be quite simplistic and not new compared to what’s already out there, so it kinda feels dated, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Overall, this is an easy watch when you’re in the mood for something fluffy with a touch of first-love nostalgia.

espetacular

cutest series i've watched all year and i NEED a s2 asap!

this is the fluffiest series i've watched this year. it's very cliche and there are some parts of the series that is kind of lacking, but it's still a good series to watch if you want to unwind or just watch something cute and sweet. i LOVE the characters and the cast is good too. i will not spoil anything from the series but i recommend this series so much and i WILL rewatch it again! WE NEED A SEASON 2!! also, i must say that this is one of the only series that made me squeal and kick my feet while watching and i've watched a LOT of bl series this year, it rekindled the part of me that likes watching bl series bcs it's been a while since i've watched a bl series that made me feel things hahaha (other series that made me squeal this year is me and thee only) AND this series is the reason why i made a mydramalist account just to give a review bcs ppl needs to know abt this!!

Actually Incredible

Effective communication, healthy relationships, zero big secrets, zero huge and pivotal misunderstandings, zero random parental traumas that will only come into play once everything seems to be going well, this was an AMAZING bl. I was so tired of seeing the same unhealthy and inauthentic tropes in JBL (obsession/infatuation, 'I'm only gay for you I would never date a man ew thats rank' and 'i only like you because you fuel the massive ego I've adopted due to my slightly above average looks and the worship they receive from the girls in my school' [not explicitly a trope, I'm just reading between the lines here]), and while this was BUILT on these classic Japanese romance pillars, the execution was SO healthy, SO genuine, SO bloody brilliant, it felt like being 12 and discovering BL for the first time again. genuinely.
This drama was 100000% written by either a woman or a man with a soft voice and a slightly different definition of the terms 'bear', 'trade' and 'prep', and if that inferation alone doesn't sway you, i don't know what bloody will. WATCH THIS.

A breath of fresh air! My new comfort watch.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I did, but it’s just a pure, feel-good gem. If you’re tired of dramas that rely on annoying tropes and constant stress, this is exactly what you need.

Watarai is a total revelation. He’s the perfect alpha-male—confident without being domineering in all the wrong ways. He’s the definition of "expect the unexpected." You see those brief moments of hesitation where you’re left wondering what he's thinking, and then he pulls a total uno-reverse card and does something completely unexpected that just blows you away.

He doesn't beat about the bush or leave room for misconceptions; he’s open about his feelings regardless of who’s asking, but especially with Hioki. He is so secure in his feelings and conveys them so directly that there’s just zero room for doubt. It’s a quiet, down-to-earth confidence that is absolute without ever being egoistic or arrogant. Honestly, he’s a fantasy come to life—I think he needs a completely new category because "green forest" doesn't even cover it! I want a soulmate like that.

Hioki is the perfect counterpart. He might be shy, but he’s surprisingly assertive. I really appreciated that the writers gave him a proper backbone—he speaks his mind and holds his own in the relationship, rather than falling into that typical 'damsel' trope we see far too often in these shows. It’s such a refreshing change of pace.

The best part? No rubbish. No clingy females who can’t take a hint (well not too many scenes of these), no silly misunderstandings that last five episodes, and no unnecessary drama. It’s just proper, mature communication. I know some people say it might be a bit of a "fantasy" version of how people actually behave, but honestly, if real life followed this kind of logic and common sense, we’d all be much happier!

It’s short, sweet, and left me feeling all fuzzy inside. I’ll definitely be coming back to rewatch this one whenever I need a reality break. Also, a huge shout-out to the friend who let me know there are two more special episodes coming—absolute legend!

If you want something that’s just pure heart and zero headache, give this a watch.

Beautifully filmed cute love story

A cute story about friendship, first love, and coming out of one's shell. It was a cute, comforting drama, without being too cringeworthy and unrealistic!
Loved the leads, but also their friend groups, very wholesome drama overall.
I liked that the pacing felt natural, the leads taking the time to figure their feelings out, while still communicating properly and being vulnerable.

Clique but left me on the edge of my seat?

This series made every clique in the book but somehow and by some magic made it not cringy but cute and interesting? like how? The plot is really simple but it manages to make the series interesting without making it boring, Popular boy like the unpopular boy. Where haven't we heard that amirite but it manages to make me fall in love with it. I like Watarai and Asahi's dynamic. They are so flipping cute. Watarai is such a loser when it comes to his crush and Asahi just let him do whatever he wants with him. I like that they don't drag the episodes. Watarai's intentions was already revealed to Asahi much earlier in the series than intended and not at the very last episode. Also I love that they were acting boyfriends the entire series. So even though we barely got time of them as an official couple we managed to get it unofficially, Finally I would like to comment on the kiss scene. At first they did a very mediocre peck kiss and I was like, ' ok, makes sense they are just high schoolers so obviously they wouldn't know how to kiss properly but then watarai went for another PROPER one and it made my mouth dropped on the floor and to seal the deal he went for a third one and with that it made me clear to me that this gotta be THE JBL of 2025.

A very sweet high-school J-BL

The relationship between Hioki and Watarai was very sweet, although it was once again fuelled by Watarai having been madly in love with Hioki long before they met.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy plots where the characters already have feelings for each other – however, when all dramas follow this route, it becomes annoyingly predictable. While it didn't stop me from liking this one, I wished it had a bit more originality.

I appreciated that we got to see elements of the Four Heavenly Kings. Although most of them were secondary characters, they didn't fade into the background. My only complaint is – why do they always have such cringe-worthy nicknames?!

Lastly, I liked that none of these characters were gullible, fragile, or emotionally stunted. Even though Hioki took a while to recognise Watarai’s feelings, it wasn’t because he couldn’t process those emotions; he simply didn’t believe that someone like Watarai, one of the FHK, would actually like him. This was refreshing, especially considering how cliché the plot already was!

Overall, I thought this was really enjoyable. It’s also short and easy to watch, with a straightforward plot and likable characters that keep us engaged throughout.

cute, fluffy, adorable, love

perfectly crafted adorable couple, not so cliche friendship, handsome f4, natural acting , good cast, nice ost. particularly loved how they didn't stumble with physical interactions between friends and couples. many dramas ruin it totally making the whole scenario into an awkward situation. the friendship between them felt so smooth . Both the lead actors and side leads acting was smooth and natural
