Feng Huang ChuanArclei:
I started watching it. It is 100% RR with male consort and a brothel full of paramours. The women are the warriors and the man are there to "serve" them. Quite a unique matriarchy storyline for a drama.
Dramas like these are rare..MSN21:
Indeed this is the first time I have ever seen a drama like this one. With this level of RR. All the ML act like seductors. wow.
I like that film makers have more freedom in minidramasunbeliebubble:
Yes, me too! We don't get as interesting plots or themes or spice in full-length dramas. And now, minidramas even rival those big IPs in terms of quality too! All in under 10 hrs.
Though I also am happy that the cast get more chances in bigger productions, I'd be lying if I said that's something I personally look forward to due to all the previously mentioned things. When things go big and mainstream, they lose their charm and identity, turning into just another inch of mass-media slop.
To me it's really worth it, since the directing is good and the visuals are too. I hope you will like it.unbeliebubble:
Sounds very promising! Hope you enjoy/enjoyed the finale and it remained consistently good ^^ I'll definitely be checking it out sometime
I wish more shows with that trope could air more often.unbeliebubble:
I know right???? MLs are just always so hecking powerful in these dramas, especially in historical ones. It gets boriiiiing
The "Ms Incognito" just ended airing with today's episode. It was really RR.unbeliebubble:
Yay, thanks for confirming!
She could cry only when she was alone or with selected kins.unbeliebubble:
Oooohhh, love me an emotionally constipated FL with trauma! Delightful
And ML was really giving malewifecore from synopsis/images/trailer. I'm glad they committed to the bit.
but the romance was slight in this dramaunbeliebubble:
Valid, I expected as much. I tend to prefer a sprinkle of romance in an otherwise suspense/mystery drama so I'm actually more eager to watch it xD
Thanks for the recommendation buddies. :)unbeliebubble:
Glad you loved it! <3
and then again, they almost always repeat the same kind of stories too.MSN21:
Very truuuuee. It's hard to find a matriarchy drama that's also good and refreshing. Everything follows the Romance of Tiger and Rose format. Like, beggers can't be choosers but a little variety would be nice. Matriarchy dramas are also 9/10 times comedies... :/
I just saw the ML is 41, didn't look like it to me 😅..MSN21:
Bro, RIGHT?! I checked out the leads as I always do when anticipating something, and bro could be my father, the heck? I mean, I'm not complaining XD

I'm gonna start this one today! My usual rules be darned! I'm so exciteeeedd!! Looks like it's committing to the matriarchy... AAAA
It'll just be a shame that I'll have to wait to be able to make GIFs... but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make...
When things go big and mainstream, they lose their charm and identity, turning into just another inch of mass-media slop.Arclei:
Very true, the companies want their return on investment, thus they do stuff mainstream that a huge audience will like . It is often very dull [sigh]
Sounds very promising! Hope you enjoy/enjoyed the finaleArclei:
I still have to wait for the last episode tomorrow. :(
I rewatched episode 1 and this is visually so beautiful. I cannot wait for tomorrow to come;)
I know right???? MLs are just always so hecking powerful in these dramas, especially in historical ones. It gets boriiiiingArclei:
Totally agree. I prefer when I see a beautiful character development tbh. If there is great push and pulls also, it is cherry on top.
Valid, I expected as much. I tend to prefer a sprinkle of romance in an otherwise suspense/mystery drama so I'm actually more eager to watch it xDArclei:
I wondered if more romance would have spoiled the intrigue. Maybe yes. I know people would have said that, the plot was going in every directions, if so. The right mix romance - mystery might be difficult to combine. Because everytime the drama goes in romcom mode, there is always people who complain because they don't when to live the thrill/suspense.

Welcome to the party!!!!
I find it different from everything I watched before. The MLs are all very flirtatious. I was like Ohhh ... Ohhh .. Ohhh from time to time, when I was watching the first 6 episodes.
Honestly, the level of RR is huge, I would not be surprised if some FLs jump on MLs and try to bed them at any moment.
Update : the aphrodisiac trope will be done for sure. But I expect that this time : the MLs will try to drug the FLs to have intercourse with them. that's a first.
the companies want their return on investmentunbeliebubble:
Yup- it's not about the art anymore
I still have to wait for the last episode tomorrow. :(unbeliebubble:
Oh nuuuuu, that's the worst!
it is cherry on top.unbeliebubble:
Agreed!
I wondered if more romance would have spoiled the intrigue.unbeliebubble:
I find that this often happens, haha xD The intimacy and romance of non-romance dramas is genuinely next-level. I think it might be a difficult thing for creators to balance since romance has such different pacing from mystery/thrillers. I've seen it done well, but often it just kinda feels like one usually takes the front seat, and the balance is always off
I find it different from everything I watched before.unbeliebubble:
Which matriarchy dramas have you watched before? Also, wow, you binged all the episodes available! :O
I would not be surprised if some FLs jump on MLs and try to bed them at any moment.unbeliebubble:
I mean... that basically already happened, only that FL was interrupted xD
the MLs will try to drug the FLs to have intercourse with them. that's a first.unbeliebubble:
In my experience, it's not uncommon for FLs to get drugged, but it admittedly happens less in historicals. FSR, no historical man is safe from an aphrodisiac. Curious to see how they tackle it in this one...
Welcome to the party!!!!unbeliebubble:
Thank you, thank you ^^
Haha, I had been thinking about this drama since yesterday, so I was very excited to start it and ended up watching the first two episodes. It obviously did not meet my hype expectation, so I'm thankfully able to watch it slowly, haha xD
It's another drama that seems unsure if it wants to actually be a matriarchy or if it only likes the idea of a matriarchy for some laughs... Idk, maybe it's too early to tell, but it has issues I would expect and tolerate with a pioneer (at least in the cdrama landscape... Ooku has been doing this stuff right since the 2010s) like TRoTaR, but by now, it's just tired.
I do like just how problematic they made FL. At least so far, she's mostly amusing and not yikes-inducing despite her several eyebrow-raising actions. They're really committing to the douchebag persona, and I appreciate that. ML is amusing, but I'm not sold on him yet. He is, however, very much giving FL-personality, so I'll give them that xD
Her abducting him, forcefully marrying him, and him wanting to escape is serving me lots of RR but it's so comedic and rushed that it's rough... man, vertical dramas seem better paced
Lowkey this drama feels like it probably sat on a shelf for quite some time... Like, the quality is lowkey rivaling minidramas from at least 3 years ago O-O I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit disappointed... How is Ye Cheng: Reborn the prettiest matriarchy drama so far, bruuuvvv
Also I can't get over all the familiar faces from other matriarchy dramas that I saw xD Like these actors are definitely doing this on purpose, and I love that for them.

I just had a lightbulb moment—I'm totally slacking on the OST Watch Challenge updates! This month, I had to gracefully bow out of a few challenges. I might have bitten off more than I can chew this year, especially since I can't stand the sight of unfinished business. So, like a stealthy ninja, I deleted some posts. One minute I was there, and the next—poof! But don’t worry, I won’t ghost your challenge. I’m really going to hustle and finish some props by the end of this month, especially since I’ve devoured nearly 80 dramas this year. Fingers crossed some of them fit the challenge. Is that cheating? Who knows! Just don’t judge me too harshly, OK? Judge me with a sprinkle of kindness. Haha!
This month, I had to gracefully bow out of a few challengesSimi_Tutu:
Ahahaha, I feel you on this. The end-of-the-year realization hits hard xD I usually wait for mid-December to cut down on challenges, but it's not a bad idea to do so earlier tbh.
Unfortunate, but it is what it is, haha
Is that cheating?Simi_Tutu:
Naahhh, some challenges are basically impossible to do otherwise xD As long as you're having fun, just go for it (I do this too)
some challenges are basically impossible to doArclei:

I actually signed up for the 365 Day Watch Challenge? I mean, maybe that New Year's resolution bug bit me hard because at the start of this year, I thought, "Sure, why not? Sounds like a fabulous idea!" But then, halfway through the year, I was like, "What in the world am I doing to myself?" A couple of months ago, I was drowning in the dreaded drama block, and I seriously questioned my life choices. But then, boom! Inspiration hit me like a ton of bricks! I dove back into dramas in August, and here we are in November, and I'm once again pondering my sanity. I must really enjoy self-torture because I practically signed up for the next four years of asking myself the same question: "Why am I doing this to myself?" But I have to confess, watching all my colorful stars vanish and being replaced with those adorable pastel drama titles? Pure joy.
P.S If it helps me check off some RR titles, then that's just icing on the cake!
I actually signed up for the 365 Day Watch Challenge?Simi_Tutu:
Talk about a challenge that I don't know who is for. Basically seen no one actually able to follow through with the challenge xD
I always aim too high with my challenges, then cut out the excess fat at the end of the year. I just love making those spreadsheets so dang much and the hit I get from checking off a drama is kinda crazy...
Pure joy.Simi_Tutu:
Very relatable... xD

I think you are right. To date I don't remember any asian drama mixing well : romance and thriller.
I just remember an american yakuza movie mixing it well in my memories, but I don't remember the title because it was a B movie and it was a longtime ago. It wasn't romance-thriller but most sex-thriller. I remember that ML was asian and FL was write. Both had tatoos on there backs. So both were rival yakusas ( I suppose) But only ML saw the tatoo on FL's back. [I remember ML approached FL during the course of the story,( because he was really attracted to FL), ML discovered that FL was his archnemy. They seduced one another and the had intercourse. But I remember that ML was always taking her from behind ( excuse my language, I don't know how to explain that in another way) to make sure she doesn't see his own tatoo and kills him on the spot to accomplish her mission]. I don't remember the title but it was not a R-rated movie.
In a nutshell sexual tension and thriller work but romance and thriller don't. You are right it must be about the pacing.
Sorry my message was too long.
Which matriarchy dramas have you watched before? Also, wow, you binged all the episodes available! :OArclei:
The only one I watched is "Ready, Set, Love". I have "romance of a tiger and rose" on my PTW list for ages, but I still haven't watched it yet.
Yes I binged all the episodes. I was too curious. Because the dynamic was very different.
I mean... that basically already happened, only that FL was interrupted xDArclei:
Yes you are right. I cannot believe she tried to to force herself onto him 3 times already. She is really a scumbag [sigh]
In my experience, it's not uncommon for FLs to get drugged, but it admittedly happens less in historicals. FSR, no historical man is safe from an aphrodisiac. Curious to see how they tackle it in this one...Arclei:
Aphrodisiac incident often happens because FL's are trying to create a relationship with a powerful ML.
In this drama, FLs own the power so I expect the ML to do this trick.
It obviously did not meet my hype expectation, so I'm thankfully able to watch it slowly, haha xDArclei:
It looks really like it has been shelved for a long time. The quality of the cameras is indeed ancient.
The drama is comical and maybe this is why there is no tension, even when FL does so much bad deeds. I hope they manage to lower the comedy a bit and give us some tension at some point. Or else, how can this show be captivating? Yes, I don't know how they will manage the matriarchy.
The abducting arc feels rushed, but I think they did it to make it more comedic. Maybe to avoid censorship.
I'm totally slacking on the OST Watch ChallengeSimi_Tutu:
I am in the same situation, different challenge. I am behind for challenges. I am now trying finish them but I am running out of time. RR Challenge, I think I will have the time to finish it, because pretty much everything I watch is RR or has RR elements. But Japanese Challenge seems more difficult to finish.
Fighting!! I hope you find a way to deal with the 365 Day Challenge. This one seem tough to crack.

Japanese Challenge seems more difficult to finish.unbeliebubble:
I hate to admit it, but I’ve officially given up on the Japanese challenge. I was doing pretty well until I realized that this year, I’ve been more into Chinese dramas, especially as the year wraps up. I have no desire to even attempt to finish that one. But I’m trying to be a good girl and hold myself accountable to finish the 'OST Challenge.' I’m also in the middle of working on the 'Drama Discover Challenge ,' which seems like I might actually complete it by the end of the year. Tho, I’ll probably need to phone a friend for the last level because searching tags on MDL is a total nightmare. Can someone please make the filter search a little more accurate? Help, lol!
365 Day Challenge. This one seem tough to crack.unbeliebubble:
Oh yes, please shower me with all those good vibes! I'm going to need every single one if I ever hope to tackle this ridiculously tough life challenge that MDL has so kindly thrown my way. Do you not wish to walk this hard path with me? LOL!
Very relatable... xDArclei:
I swear I didn't forget the "Role Reversal Watch Challenge"! I didn't binge as many RR titles this year as I thought . Apparently, I totally blanked on the currently airing and already aired section on our group's first page. So, it looks like next year will be my grand attempt at this challenge. But hey, on the bright side, I've already snagged my spot, and it seems there's no deadline for this year. So, it cool to just roll it over to next year right ?
I hate to admit it, but I’ve officially given up on the Japanese challenge. I was doing pretty well until I realized that this year, I’ve been more into Chinese dramas, especially as the year wraps up.Simi_Tutu:
I understand you. I am in a similar situation. I started the year, thinking I would watch more Japanese shows but Chinese shows stole my attention more . So I am wondering what I am going to do to keep up with this challenge. If I do find a way, I will chose you solution.
Do you not wish to walk this hard path with me? LOL!Simi_Tutu:
All the best. But honestly "The 365 days Challenge" is hard to tackle for me. It is a huge comittement. I know I watch dramas daily, but I am not sure i can live up to the expectation of the rule for this drama. I will cheer you up from the side walk :)
it seems there's no deadline for this yearSimi_Tutu:
This is what I think the rules are too. No worries.
I don't remember the title but it was not a R-rated movie.unbeliebubble:
Interesting since it does sound pretty graphic, ahaha xD
In a nutshell sexual tension and thriller work but romance and thriller don't. You are right it must be about the pacing.unbeliebubble:
Yeah... I think Flower of Evil is an example of a romance thriller done well, but it helps that they're past the 'falling in love' stage, which is often where I think they go wrong xD
The only one I watched is "Ready, Set, Love"unbeliebubble:
Ohhhhhh... that drama XD The matriarchy in that one was sooo underwhelming T_T But kudos to Thailand for even attempting role reversal, lol
I cannot believe she tried to to force herself onto him 3 times already. She is really a scumbag [sigh]unbeliebubble:
Right? XD The commitment to the douchebagcore is crazy. But lowkey, FLs in matriarchy dramas are often a lil too much... That's what I mean by it seeming more like they like the idea of a matriarchy but not a true matriarchy.
FLs own the power so I expect the ML to do this trick.unbeliebubble:
Highly doubt this ML will be doing anything like that... but possibly another character? O-o I'm curious
I hope they manage to lower the comedy a bit and give us some tension at some pointunbeliebubble:
I'd hope so too, but last time I hoped for a romcom to give me a bit more seriousness, it turned into cringe angst, so I'm minding my tongue now xD
but I think they did it to make it more comedicunbeliebubble:
Possibly, but I feel like they couldn't easily still keep it comedic, but actually show more. It just feels like we're speedrunning the story xD
