The actress I think was just plain tired while filming it, she was telling about her being severly exhausted after back to back projects culminating in Mo Li. Even got a proper break in many years after it. Also, while this role here looks like her typical typecast one, something in it maybe was too hard for her to portray convincingly. Still, the character itself is fascinating.

Where is the developing believable romance? FL narrating her teenage crush isn't it. And they've barely been on one sort of date.
