Yea, besides anything else, divorcing a woman would bring public scorn and humiliation on her. As well as loss of reputation. A man could then get married again no problem, but the woman would always be considered damaged goods.

I can tolerate wuxia to a point if those are not overdone. But xianxia plots are just too ridicilous for me.

As for the edict, it was already explained. ML's brother looks like was captured when he returned to the capital immediately and didn't have an edict on him on purpose, fearing the villains would take it from him and it will be lost. So he stashed it somewhere and FL's mother came to him to help him. She thought she could get the edict and present it on behalf of the Lishan mountain faction. Bet her father didn't come down from the mountain in time, her husband's shitty family got wind of her having it and forcibly took it from so that they won't be implicated.

Imho, I dunno why ML's brother, having an army at his call, couldn't have just presented the edict at the gates in front of tons of witnesses. But whatever, it's such a convoluted plot device at this point, this edict, I don't give a f anymore...

She may have come to him out of guilt initially, but if she did so until the end, she wouldn't be wanting to get so close to him. But now he chose to believe it was all fake.

Also, getting angry at her is one thing, but wanting to divorce her over this is just a big dick move. I won't be convinced otherwise.

Alternatively, it could be she made one for herself, but gawd I hope not.

Also, how bullied everyone are by the dowager that nobody dares to raise a point that the marquis worked for her loyally and she's also implicit in the edict case, most likely even ordered it found and destroyed. I hope SML kills the f out of her. They gotta utilize him against the villains.

I think they want to hammer down mainly not that FL's family was implicit, but that FL married him out of obligation and doesn't love him.

I can understand his frustrations, but taking it out on FL to a point of serving her divorce papers is just dumb af.

ML is being a dick simple as that.
FL was not responsible for her family's mishap with the edict. Sure, she could have told him right away, but then he definitely would have driven her away from the house.
They lived together for around a year, getting close, she helped him A LOT and he promised her a lot of things as well - but now he got into his mind it was all just out of guilt from her part and is backpedaling on everything.
Going blind, deaf and dumb for the sake of unnecessary angst. I guess hoping for a rational ML in these types of dramas is asking too much...

It's all for the angsty drama. ML being mean and irrational to FL so the plot can finally return her to the Lishan mountan.

Yea, it's especially prevalent in historical cdamas. Anything from stress, to poison - vomit buckets of blood.

Also, wtf is with historical cdramas showing even mildly sick people vomiting blood like they have a terminal stage of tuberculosis? Is this some sort of traditional medicine beliefs akin to magical acupuncture and meridians?

Ugh, here comes the irrational, dumb angst part of the drama...

Last 10 episodes got a bit draggy, with uneven pacing. But besides ML's questionable behavior towards FL and her mother at one point in the drama and getting lost in the sauce of the MacGuffin device's lore, it was a pretty good watch. Loved intelligent writing, complex & compelling villains and great cinematography.

Not sure what they're planning with that season 2 announcement though. The story looked pretty much finished.
