Epi. 24 demonstrated that she could sacrifice her own happiness and that her love for him was not to see him in pain, hurt, misery, or any heartbreaks because she loved him more than he loved her or any other man again. (BTW, I don't read novels, as I want to “read” the drama to appreciate the story-telling skills of script writers, directors, and casts.) They should sow some seeds of discord by acting pitiful and "crying" and not kneeling outside to make their mother realize the Xues don't really respect her. But if they have a son, the duke can easily dispose of the son-in-law, just as he disposed of his eldest son.

What unbelievable incompetent royal pair of pushovers! Next the princess, another pushover, How could her cousin, slapped her best friend, FL? It implied that he hadn't given her any “face”and was insulting and atrociously rude . She should have stepped forward and imperiously slapped his face, and ordered him to apologize.
Geez, as the emperor's younger brother and younger sister, they behaved like 2nd class citizens that nobody respect!

Therefore, this drama is not simple and has more than meets the eye, as hinted by the ML. Moreover, clues were from the Analect by Confucius, who was born into poverty in 551 BC—-2000 years earlier than Ming, where conditions were much worse, yet he rose to success as well as relevance till today. Hence, underneath the simple clues were the themes of the drama, and that was why the drama easily passed through the censors. What the censors saw (uncovered in my review) should also be what the viewers should see!

After reading your comment, it made me wonder why it was written that way. No drama wants the ML to be hated! My review was based on that reasoning.

XB was a prostitute son, while LZ was a beggar son. Both were low-born, but LZ killed for higher status, wealth, and power. While XB got his wealth on a golden platter, from the dry well hidden there was most probably the mute pension fund. The dry well, which young master Lu showed him when XB told him where they could hide from the fire,  as  he helped the drowsy young master Lu out of the burning room. He then studied hard and worked hard to become a magistrate.

He was pardoned by the emperor and appointed as a judge. He didn't expose the chief examiner and his incriminating actions against him and his friend, which is why he felt injustice as others believed he bribed his way back to society. The last clue, ”those who cannot serve the people, cannot serve the spirits” , I regarded as indicating that MW didn't follow the law that serves the people, for by taking the law into his own hands and killing the murderers, the spirit of justice was not served. He covered up for the murderers; the families of victims like ML didn't know about their despicable crimes. In the opening OST of Insects and the closing scenes in the last episode, life goes on, but if the judge and magistrate don't get what justice is, life moves on without people being aware that they have been shortchanged.

That scene at the graveside when the FL said it was easy to get the meaning of the clue, in which the ML contradicted her, hint that there were double meanings . He had to first ponder, "What is justice?” Like the coin, which has two sides (head and tail), if one is missing, it is counterfeit. Justice is to expose the guilty AND their crimes; otherwise, it is not justice at all. That's why he had no closure.

The last clue, ”those who cannot serve the people, cannot serve the spirits” , I regarded as indicating that he didn't follow the law that serves the people, for by taking the law into his own hands and killing the murderers, the spirit of justice was not served. Also, it was not a sweet victory; XB, a low-born boy, rose to status and wealth as he was handed a golden platter by his good deed, unlike LZ, who was killed for it. (He would have coughed out blood if he knew).

Yes, you are correct, that small frog is the big clue.
Confirmation was when he made a deliberate move to his camouflage foolish mode. Another was the discovery that speaking was no problem for that guy ( tongue is the hidden weapon of frog).

I know, it's tough but he should be smart like LZ, and said maybe he found her unconscious and don't remember anything so he had to be the good Samaritan as he was the police/bailiff and gave shelter and food. Geez, if there is a will, there is a way.

But I felt angry, as he should had taken her back to his place and hid her, then gave her food.She was running away from hell, how can he let her go back there? He was entrusted to protect people from bad people. At least let her calm down in a safe place and food to eat for a few days before deciding anything.
