He Shan was good to him,wasn't she? His only friend and I don't think she was the one who reported him in the final exam, as it was not mentioned who did it. I can understand he wanted revenge, but made the paper had low mark as they could have t investigated why someone would blacked out their own name.

Wasn't the self-sacrifice of the teacher taken from JFK: "ask not what your country can do for you , ask what you can do for your country.”? Further, that movie was from WW2 and from Vietnam War onward, the policy was changed to that of JFK; otherwise, there wouldn't be so many student demos as they felt disappointed and disillusioned that the country put other interests above its citizens.

The bedroom scene where she asked for divorce with a tantalising knife at his throat, while whispering that every night would be like that till the divorce. Husband must be thinking: “Divorce? She's kidding, right? Every night with such a turn on?!” Seriously, asked for a divorce by standing away from him and then threaten him with a knife , in broad daylight. Stopped at that episode as FL seems to be playing a dangerous cat and mouse game.

That's why I would like HL to explain to his brother why he helped the Japanese. Would like the Nationalist POV but not the usual power and position.

I got the impression from this drama that the writer was paying homage to those early, unnamed, fallen, and unknown heroes and heroines—those "shooting stars" who had brief lives but showed incredible bravery in illuminating and inspiring others around them, like the ML. The FL and family represented the bulk of ordinary, regular people who were unaware of the evil power at work, while the ML and family represented the minority elites on the wrong side. They illuminate the darkness, showing it that a bright future is possible if they wake up and fight for it today.

For me, I suppose the story will come to an end ten years later when the little girl returned as an adult and joined the Ml as CCP members fought the Nationalists in the major event that followed—the full-fledged Chinese Civil War. The story started because of her and most likely ended when she returned.
