Why do people think that FL and her ex did NOT break up bc of alcohol,
and/or that FL was not to blame for the breakup and that only the ex was a jerk?

The root cause of their breakup is FL's IMMATURITY AND RESULTING INABILITY TO FEEL AND COMMUNICATE, and of all that fueled and sealed shut by alcoholism.
So the alcohol was a key issue of their breakup. They could have continued ONLY if he also was an alcoholic.

I was trying to say that FL is an immature person and also someone who will never grow up bc she is an alcoholic, AND she picked the wrong guy. There is NO WAY that their relationship would work, is the bottom line. So dont be surprised when he behaves as a jerk. She enabled it.

I do not think we can say that FL was a victim of the jerk ex.

FL is an alcoholic who PICKED to pair up with a jerk, and she was so busy drinking that did not take the time to discover it earlier and ditch him. There is NO WAY that their relationship would work, is the bottom line.

So why be surprised when he behaves as a jerk???? What else CAN he be but a jerk... ??? Yeah he could be a spiness doormat enabler like her mom.... FL expected that LOL But luckily he was a jerk and did her a favor by dropping her.


First of all, every healthy relationship has intimacy and communication and 6th sense born out of love and genuine care for the beloved, so people FEEL and notice changes in their beloved.
FL COULD NOT, and alcohol is a huge reason for her oblivion.

Something was wrong with the relationship and with FL did not notice. Yeah cheaters can cheat for years but if that happens, it is a RED FLAG that the relationship is totally rotten and there is no connection ano COMMUNICATION AND INTIMACY between the people. The dude would have to explain the time he was missing with the other woman, why he wasnt there with FL, and there must have been some change in his behavior. How come they never talked about themselves? How come FL did not feel anything off? OBVIOUSLY THE RELATIONSHIP WAS ROTTEN DISFUNCTIONAL and the key cause is alcoholism.

FL showed us her memories, she went drinking EVERY NIGHT after work and on weekends. She and Ex drank together when they met. They never did anything else, seems like, it always revolved around drinking. Seems like she spent many evenings drinking without him.
Also, she said she worked very long hours and then went drinking after.
He had plenty of time to find someone else who would GIVE HIM ATTENTION.

And he had NO reason to be loyal to her... what did she give him that someone else could not?
FL was unkept, messy hair, bad clothes, ... nothing to talk about, immature, yelling, .... then let's say there was throwing up, headaches, house full of garbage, bad smells, bousts of anger, yelling, never able to discuss anything, ....

Just think about it, there was never any evening or morning cuddling, walks in the park, going places, going to concerts or shows, nice chat around tea, watching dramas together, going bowling, skating, running, gym, cooking together, .... whatever - fun stuff people do.

Looking into the future - can you imagine FL as a mother? Can you imagine living with her for years and years drinking every night until she collapses? I COULD imagine her as becoming some shot at work and spending even more time at work and drinking even MORE as part of her job

So all together..... WHY DATE OR MARRY FL??? i would not.
As is, FL was material for one night stands only.

So this dude changed his mind, which he is entitled to, and did not tell her, which makes him a jerk...

Also, what kind of guy was FL expecting when she was an alcoholic. Of course her "match" was some kind of loser jerk. A truely nice healthy person would not be with her.

FL EXPECTED AN ENABLER, just like her mother was an enabler to her alcoholic father.

Luckily for Ex (and for FL), he wasnt an enabler LOL At least, he was not that :)

So I say her Ex was just ONE HALF of the problem and should be left to rest in peace, I would not touch him as "guilty" or a "cause of breakup." he is NOT.

Him using the same date etc is ... well... jerky but also understandable if he wants to marry fast :) and in my book it was allowed. FL did not mean ANYTHING to him anymore. And FL should have known that. And yeah all the details of using her number etc are also jerky but it is to be expected. Not a big deal really. There are bigger fish to fry. THe key issue is, why did he have a side chick.

And the bottom line is, in her alcoholic mind, she picked a jerk, so why be surprised when he behaves as a jerk.

Seems like you need to say this to yourself lol A comment like this means that YOU cannot express your thoughts clearly and cannot communicate. If you were really clear about what you want to say, you would find a way. But you arent. There is some ghost in the closet in your awareness. Do you have issues with alcohol or alcoholic partners?

As a chronic alcoholic, FL was NOT attractive, not interesting, not even good looking or well groomed or dressed, not able to talk, not able to relate, not able to DO ANYTHING FUN TOGETHER but drinking, so ... why date her????

They drank together so he is guilty of drinking too much too. But he found another woman who was sober and more interesting, and made a baby while drunk. I think he is ONLY ONE HALF GUILTY for breakup, FL is definitely the other half, and the alcohol is the root cause. Also, I dont expect much from him since that is their base.

Oh yes, it makes sense! Germany is so high up north so most socializing is indoors and the winter makes ppl drink more. Germans are known for beer and also for hard work, so yeah, it makes sense they drink, and under control. Thank you for helping me understand this.
Russia is in a similar situation BUT poor and hopeless so ppl drink like crazy all the time bc there are no consequences.
Scandinavia is in similar situation and I heard of boats going to Finland to get drunk but also I would think they keep it under control in daily life... ?

I agree. I think the bad comments are bc alcohol is a sensitive topic... People who have issues with it arent going to like this... People learned to like to drink, make good use of it (hookups, social fun, business, ... ) and/or make money off it (clubs, bars, restaurants) so criticizing alcohol and showing what it REALLY does is not something they want to see. Also many ppl have alcoholic parent, spouse or friend, and/or are ENABLERS themselves, so they are not interested in touching this sacred cow topic of socially acceptable drinking to the point of alcoholism .....

I would invite you to appreciate the HUGE beast of social issue that drinking alcohol is... It cannot be addressed in a drama but by keeping it light... the jester style.

The Mother let them drink for decades! through loss of junkyard, teenage drinking, etc. So her character has some HEAVY karma, she is an ENABLER. Luckily she got back to her senses somehow. I think the drinking scenes are not "humor" but are a jester way of showing serious issues lightly, so that serious things can be said without alienating people. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DRINK TOO MUCH. MEN HAVE TO DRINK FOR BUSINESS. ALCOHOLISM IS EPIDEMIC WITH WOMEN, WORKING AND HOUSEWIVES. If the drama shows them "too head on" they will get irked and leave this.

Yeah that is always a good question. I would start self reflection by looking into my relationship to alcohol, addictions, abuse, social norms, etc. and ppl who are into it.

that detail shows how deeply delusional the trio is and how the daughters are tied to their dad's "love" via alcohol and thus how hard it is for them to leave it

How can a drama address the serious problem of alcoholism but by keeping it light? Alcohol is so ingrained as socially acceptable, so many ppl will be irked by criticizing anything about it. To me, the mom is not treated any less lightly than anything else in this drama
