So are they laying the groundwork to make Consort Shu the villain?

No. Emperor is a weak ruler who's worried he could be deposed if Right Chancellor is killed or imprisoned. That's it. Unless or until he knew he had the power to rid the court of RC's factions he'll keep him around.

There was a throwaway line from the White Asura case basically saying he hadn't visited Consort Shu b/c the Right Chancellor did something to anger him. And they didn't really follow up on that so, yeah..that could be the coming play.

My only complaint has been he's "heartsick" - like be for real. lol. My man is not weak like that. He has quiet strength. He's not gonna be in bed for half a month b/c he got his feeling hurt. The rest of it works with the character development we've seen so far.

The unspoken thing: It's clear Right Chancellor leads a faction powerful enough to topple the Emperor and he doesn't want to rock the boat 'cause he's not sure he'd survive the upheaval. IF it seemed like he was trying to shore up power to expel the quasi-traitors - okay - but he's not. He's just a weak rule and it's frustrating to watch.

I hope it's no Shu. I just hope someone tries to overthrow the Emperor and realize how wrong he's been.

Was she supposed to go in and thank the Emperor personally after the banquet request? It looked like she broke etiquette in some way by not doing so even though she did thank him.

Yeah. They should have paced it better as well. The one annoying thing about C-Dramas - you can almost always skip the middle section and watch just the the first 8-10 and the last 8-10 in these 30+ episode series.

They've got plenty of chemistry.
