I don't think there's a real separation there, the time jump references his rapid rise. If they do it in a montage type situation b/c he's likely a deputy battalion commander still in ep. 17 if SML can easily harass him like that.

The previews go from him being beat up by Young Master Yu and him telling Zhao Ling he won't ever rise. To him being a 4th ranked senior assistant commander (remember he said he'd take them back to the capital when he was a senior 5th rank) and him saying he's not yet betrothed (hopefully that's some sort of head fake) while being called back to the capital.

I kinda agree with this. They better give him a good reason for being out there. The mom did mention she had evidence she could use against the family...but I don't think that's enough reason to come after them. If they are chill, she'll be chill. She said as much.
