why are u so aggy...that's what the site is for? and a lot of us are artists, critics, filmmakers, gasp! we even work in production. like what are you talking about how can you say we should watch it with no "preconceived molds" and not critique it. why even form your own thoughts either negative or positive if you just say watch it for what it is. don't bother explaining why you like something if it's just as invaluable of why someone has issues with something. come on man...

i think they mean in terms of prod value since the show is pretty much impeccable technically from top to bottom which the majority of these shows just are not. it's like a cinematic experience so i get being confused if that's a main reason why one would like this and why op made the comparison.

(i do not plan to watch s2 of itsay and i didnt finish the last 20m of the last episode in s1 so i'm not so much a fan anymore but a very big appreciator. i believe something can and will be done on that level whether it's BL or not esp in thailand in the "mainstream" and i cannot wait to see it!)

i get what ur saying but we should encourage people to do what they can not say stop with the pirated links or sharing of information. that's the best thingn we can do to help imo

the opposite of pirating isn't anti-pirating it's making things available and affordable. everyone has different circumstances and the hurdles to get some of these things is impossible. just like they may have small budgets, so do others. even for private work i would support pirating however i think that individual subbers should take precedent over these companies that will be fine. their work being taken is an issue bc they get little to no compensation (i pay a patreon fee for this thai dude's subs bc i can and i respect him for what he does.) ppl have diff circumstances and pirating isn't going anywhere and it's not on the consumer

*say this as an artist who has gotten their work stolen. it isn't ideal but i support it for the very reasons above

and yes for the dubs there has this tinny distant quality to it. in faraway wanderers i could just tell there was some sort of projection and the pitch was off; to me it didn't fit her character or her.

honestly in film school i had to do a silent and we shot everything no sound and had to put in foley and do the edit and i just like gave up at one point i couldnt be bothered it was so annoying LOL and honestly they told us "i mean u can dub it...but it wont be good" LOL

yea agreed. and it makes me really sad it stifles artistry. and while i do agree that chinese as a language is complex and has many differences but this is not just a chinese phenomenon.

as an american whose dad is an immigrant there's the same type of concepts in his home of nigeria—he is from a certain tribe with his certain language (but the secondary language is english of the country.) so logistically....well it's just not as tight of an answer anymore.

also i highly doubt on a set there's going to be people who absolutely cannot communicate—in fact they all can on a set bc they are also in china so that doesn't hold up as much about the differences because i am pretty sure everyone there is able to communicate. there is a standard dialect, correct? being mandarin? since taiwanese people can very much also understand—people in the diaspora too. there must be something missing here.

also even with being from different places...does every VA have the same dialect? it's just a bit confusing and splitting hairs because there is simply a way to integrate all aspects and they have done it before. and many shows i have seen that are asian will have subtitles bc of the dialects as well.

there's a lot of factors into it that i am sure but there's probs some deeper shit there. dubbing is almost impossible to get perfect which is why there's so much ADR used when people arent near cameras or their backs are turned. most of the time it's just REALLY hard to get it right and audio editing is expensive sooo. but you can mostly almost tell esp if they dont mix it up. and once someone tells u they dub a lot, ur screwed atp bc ull just know.

we need more! some are mixing both dubs and real sounds/voices and that's even better i think. there's no reason to rely on sound editors that much bc it's honestly really hard to dub and it's also an extra cost (ish!??!?!? i guess MAN IDK lmao cos u have to pay the actors and the Vas...)

i was thinking of this but CCP isn't actually CCP like this isn't communism. they're PRC and it's just a conservative power gaining type of thing (same with russia, you know no longer "truly" communist whatever that means) and soft power and culturalism. cn was able to move rapidly and it, rightfully, combatted us imperialism and i applaud them for that but not to the point of nationalism (btw i am not purporting the US is better in any way, shape, or form just the way all our cultural identities should be more accepting imo) ...we should accept difference and respect each other and show the differences. do people with diff dialects not interact on a day to day?

do you think they are just prioritizing han chinese people and not any ethnic minority groups around there that speak it? in times of like wuxia would it make more sense? i do question this but i think more of the lines along: is this nationalism? i just dont like the fear of integrating differences for uniformity (but again that is not communist since there is no implementation of communism that has been successful although the supposed tenets of freedom are there and it isn't based on destruction which i want to acknowledges) and it really pushes anyone who may be different out. i know there's not gonna be mixed black chinese actors in these shows (even tho there's also more african immigrants or relations with china in africa—i mention this as a black nigerian-american and it's detrimental to our people domestically and abroad but also many african countries need allies as "weak" countries)

and why is it not good for people to not sounds the same? i can see for films but the thing is it's still art ! you can still get it across and again! it makes things interesting as well. on an actor thing....if there is a certain way they must move then why can't they learn? bc voice and movement are a huge huge part of acting in gen. i want to act again and i know this is something i must work on. my diction, my mouth movements, the way i sound. acting and filmmaking/art production are ENDLESS possibilities—we can do anything and do it well. my last reservation is wanting to know if it's for expediency/capital reasons as well buttttt also they do this a lot when actors aren't capable....so hire capable actors! there's been actors in the west get their faces and movements replaced bc they are so fucking bad and it's like...JUST GET SOMEONE WHO CAN DO THEIR JOB? IDK. literally art is a universal language there's not barriers we should adhere to...

i think the OP is tlaking from like a level as a viewer though and logisticaly (or what propaganda or the media idk tells us is the reason) and how they like it but for them i think the dialect part is just pointing out the supposed "why" and i do agree with the bit about minority culture as i stated above with mixed actors but even reading some c-novels. but well...nationalism is...there's just a lot to unpack here, you kknow
