theyve been on a decline for so long. sig and pby had some great dramas during a great time on tvn when it wasn't so huge i guess but that was when a lot of their shows were getting canceled too. sucks you can't get that kind of golden era back. everything is so glossy now and they don't take risks...
lmao, Aliens also attack only US (in super hero movies ) but people accepts it's but they suddenly gets logical…
idk much about marvel lore but i'm almost positive on eof those are aliens and the other war was based on the fact that the thumb wanted to blow up the entire world. not just washington dc. you know, like how superhero films work
i love them both and they look great together but reading the comments it seems like they are constantly off/on and now i'm wondering if it is even worth it. besides it being melancholy and that being a lot, i HATE constant breaking up or inconsistency in relationship dynamics.
also people on mdl need to understand that we aren't only allowed to comment and discuss things in only positive manners with 0 critique. you are not the show, if people have things to say about it well...that's the point of this website regardless of you agreeing or not. we all get to type in the box ok
im an avid fan of park bo young and seo in guk even before, and i really like their chemistry in this drama, but…
same with being a fan of theirs. wanted a drama with them for forever and i was thinking of starting—it's a bit too close to home personally for me rn but i was willing to risk it—but the comments are making me.....not want to lol noooooo ;-;;;;;;
Oh, a lot of people feel this way. But the fandom of this show is super loud and protective. Also I've seen people…
this is one thing i hate about MDL. it is specifically made for discussion but many people don't want that or jump to conclusions (i am also someone who does this) or get angry when you type things out and it's just "too heavy" for a site that's supposed to aggregate feelings on shows and stimulate conversation and engagement—that's how they get engagement and people coming back. having a different opinion or critique in shows that are overwhelmingly loved can be weird esp if the show has obvious flaws and it isn't just with the viewer and more minor concerns (like i do not like my ahjussi at all and i find the comments section a bit annoying but i get why people like it so much so i'm like whatever even tho id like to see more critique lol)
this is virtually a year old but i love your points and talking about the story as well like technically. loved loved this. the antithesis of feminism. i mentioned a lot of what you did in my comment (esp the IC and ASPD shit my GOD and it really doesnt help to be like HERE but theyre not actually people with these MIs theyre just ATROCIOUS WOMEN it's like idk female cops lmao like why should we care??)
i think their love being healing would make more sense if it was earned at all AND if the show had a narrower scope. but it doens't, it tries to tackle all these things so it should live up to it but it's just a backdrop for the romance and for some psycho shit. and i think intentionally they have male characters with these women who are combative in different ways because rarely are they so benign. it's different than badass women and men who don't feel threatened or overcompensating without diminishing their character (like in school nurse files). we know that love cna help in the process of healing but a drama focused on community and public health but not urging her to get help or even doing a diagnosis and using it as an excuseable plot device. esp with the ableism of her character so these points clash. why would their love be healing in any way? what mde us think they should stay together? if it didnt show much change at all and then some really complicated interpersonal things that are just handwaved but would be integral to healing (THE MOM?)
also sky castle has many flaws but it is a satire and it sticks so true to that in its delivery. they could do a satire as well and have it be romantic but. i think this show is sort of the false idea of quirkiness but that doesnt surprise me at all since the shows that tend to want to be the most ambitious but are focusing on cheaper thrills (the "attractiveness", the production, name, etc) to get there instead of story and progression and commentary. stranger does a good job of this too but it's a political thriller. even so like there's plenty of shows that give us a breath of fresh air and subtly go into topics instead of being ostentatious about this is what it's about. i feel like it's ok it's love also failed at this but in diff ways.
the name alone was off-putting (psycho but it's okay) and reading it was about these really hard to tackle psychological issues i was immediately turned off since these disorders always mean, esp with women, they are going to be abysmal and that is a replacement for strong (LOL>)
now with all this info coming out about her it's really fucking frustratin gand also probably...not gonna be helpful for our understanding of these MIs since it's easy to label her so closely to the character she portrayed which isnt really about ASPD but rather how awful she is. also what is with KSH's character and just not giving a shit about like HIPAA lol
edit: u mention internal consistency and YES that's what i find so frustrating with a lot of these discussions. within the worlds these shows create they have a certain set of rules with what they set up in dialogue, moral code, our understanding of the world. if you're presenting it in this way where it's supposed to be an affirming healing atmosphere then it needs to be supported through that. if the fairytales are dark then they should find a way to pair her story with that but transcending the darkness of it.not all of them are depressing or bad endings but i find this troubling for many reasons 1: why is she writing children's stories if she has 0 empathy; that isnt what they need at all 2. i find it odd that every one of these fairytales relate to this story however..... most of the fairytales employed were very much to propagate homogeneity as well. idk how m uch the writers/directors know about this nu folklore so to speak but it's interesting that she's a writer (obviously) one of children's novels inspired by many books and fairytales that aare meant to exert power and control through manipulation and culture—not unlike the point of art itself (but this isnt' supposed to be used for insidious or nefarious ways but rather cultural expansion and understanding through the world through art not to homogenize.) if the show was smart, it could have done something with that. 3. they have a moral to them....if she is moral-less why the obsession? because she's not moral-less or needs to learn how to cope etc she is a flat character and the fairytales while they make sense dont prop up the story meaningfully bc again (#2) and what u mentioned
it sucks that it was impossible to watch for me. i was confused about hte comments but i see it's a mixed bag…
also i get why people defend her and this drama but stop bringing up feminism to shield her if you don't understand what she is being accused of is a direct violation. the same as a man doing it (though this has diff power balances)
most alarming was the statement from her agency about those texts which blames him. that was a confirmation completely. not only that it's so irresponsible to be that close and personal with cast as things are going on AND no matter what there is a psychological costto being an actor—particularly as artists ESP actors are SUPREMELY insecure. i don't agree with a lot of people and i get my ideas are more fringe than not and i try not to get angry but this is the antithesis of girl power and the person that fucked up was the one who got cauhgt
also actors and thse companies RELY on tabloids. things get leaked all the time and they may be the leakers themselves. dispatch probably legally obtained it bc entertainment is a shady capitalist abysmal business. it can't be saved really but at least the exposure lets people realize. also i take huge fucking offense to treating staff like garbage. idc anyone that's accused of that gets a no in my book. as a crew member for production we are running around for THEM and we don't get paid as much. being an actor is not as labor intensive as a fucking crew memeber on set. show su the fucking respect we deserve; you should be kissing our feet who the hell aere you?
hate how feeling like caring about jung hyun means we aren't supporting a woman although everything he has shown in character and his growth are very different to her own. she's a good actress, not amazing, but her striking looks are a huge draw. we have to examine our own internalized obsession with rape culture and patriarchy bc it also has no gender;)
an artist has no guarantee to be separated from their work. first of all we are seen as our work, second of all artists gain social, fiscal, emotional, etc capital through their work and being seen. ergo, their terrible personalities and actions have supreme consequences on others in every way possible from enjoyment in filming to literal issues within interpersonal r/ships. what's even worse is when the work they do really reflects that. should people be paid and continue in a workplace if they are abusive? or is that only okay for customer service workers who can get fired for anything? what about a crew member that may have been fired from her words? what about the crew and cast that were affected by jung hyun's own poor behavior that was exacerbated by his environment and his failure to get help or withdraw in time. i get upset for the crew members there, thinking of how they may have been treated and felt and that's stuff he must take responsibility for.
and in that vein she must take responsibility for what bullshit she lobbed on him too. it's all about power and hierarchy and i think disappearing from the public eye like jung hyun did for your health, mind, and safety at the peak of your career shows a risk most are not willing to take so they get shoved out instead of actually taking time. shame.
there's no cancel culture. there's human beings being annoying and complaining about everything as we are wont to do—even egregious claims or putting words into peoples mouths particularly with the internet—and there's the fact that there are consequences to your actions. not everyone must agree with them and if they violate a code that many of us have/want for a better future have then you must face the consequences. the message of this drama gets hampered when it cant figure out its own power mechanisms, understanding the failures in production, and its frankly flippant use of APD and characterization to turn the tables on a terrible rship. think about any of this if the genders were switched or we saw 2 men. it's bonkers but no lol
can y'all debate over FL's personal life on another page? pretty sure the comment section of IOTNBO is made to…
it's a show she's in so it would be silly to not esp about a character with APD lmao like there's some real shady things going on and her rship with KSH it's just a clusterfuck that has EVERYTHING to do with this drama bc THEYRE IN IT
I don't understand what the controversy has to do with the drama. I get that it's about the main actress. But…
many of us cannot seperate art from the artist rightfully so because it obviously vastly influences their work and how they can use their social capital over people. idk about the yeji and junghyun stuff (unless this is something that i am totally missing) but all that stuff about her attitude is extremely similar to this character. of course we couldn't have foreseen that and there's plenty of amazing women, amazing people, who play just awful characters and are (seemingly) great IRL but it's really hard to seperate the two if this character mimics so much about who this woman is AND on top of that doesn't give her the consequences that she would have in the real world (as evidenced...)
edit: bye i'm an idiot i loved mr queen and i liked jung hyun ever since he quit to get better and i suffer from a lot of the same things he does. idk why i totally forgot his name lmao i'm running on like 2 hrs of sleep my b
it sucks that it was impossible to watch for me. i was confused about hte comments but i see it's a mixed bag in that most ppl love it and it shot up in popularity but a lot of people have issue with it. i have no desire to defend this woman's career and i don't care about bad people so i'll say this as well: it is eery to me how similar their dispositions seem to be (actor/character)
the filming is okay, a bit cool, which is part for the course for netflix and tvn. i will say her ostentatious outfits and the colors + filming REALLY popped. although i find the costuming to be overhyped in terms of like the aesthetic itself, it is really presented in such a gorgeous way because most people aren't as decked out as her and that's "part" of her personality. this kind of reminds me of witch's court and itaewon class in the way that "strong" female leads act; almost unbearable. in the two examples (IC and here) they're rich as well. trauma and MI do not excuse this poor behavior. now for OJS he did do a good job but i don't understand SK's relationship with autism and representation. i have only really seen it done very well (IMO) in save me 2. i am glad that this show tackles it head-on since it is extremely stigmatized in SK* and there's a narrower few of social normalcy (population, more ethnic homogeneity, etc) they put so much weight on the fact that he's a "burden" for not being normal and the difficulties around them without giving as much power to it as it should. they use the community health angle, which is so fucking important, to prop up this "romance" and these characters
additionally, abusive or toxic behavior isn't acceptable no matter the gender. if it is shown as the way it should be—not beautiful even if they last—it is easier, but it isn't. and i honestly find the fact that her character really exploits the autism and is rueful about it. also her APD isn't an excuse for her terror. in reality, with that and not getting better you scorch everything you love because of dependency and abuse. it may not be realistic but since they are basing it off of real life issues they should explore it more and dive deeper. i can't say there's been realistic depictions of APD, sociopathy, psychopathy and i can't imagine how stigmatizing that must be for all of the psych world. it just seems like coldness, apathy, and abuse are put on the table. in that respect, why even show these things if this is all you can do? i would say to counter the negative reinforcement instead of humanizing people with traits you think are bad why don't you just stop making the people with those traits focal points of "badness" and show their thought processes. additionally, a bad mom does not APD make. it seems like she's more of an NPD person although those can all conflate. idk what my point is but if it's a personality disorder (?) that's hard to understand you can't cheapen it esp with things like this because it's such a hard topic to cover because without adequate help you absolutely can do monstrous things but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take responsibility and that source of your pain doesn't shield the blow.
also people on mdl need to understand that we aren't only allowed to comment and discuss things in only positive manners with 0 critique. you are not the show, if people have things to say about it well...that's the point of this website regardless of you agreeing or not. we all get to type in the box ok

*worldwide as well, i know
