2 episode behind me and I don't like it. This is so boring.. Will the drama get more interesting later?
it might not be your thing but it could be. keep going, it's good as hell. but if you get to ep 10 and cant pick it up you might wanna tap out. what i did was go up to ep 8? then i got distracted and real life shit happened, stopped for some odd weeks, picked it up and went back and rewatched and got engrossed.
Then people would feel too enraged sending a genuine romantic interest back. It's more believable that a straight…
I think it was clear. That BH was confused bc of his social standing and how different his life was but the issue was never a lack of dick (literally) lol but i think you and i are in agreemenet judging bny ur comments!
Im on ep 18 and i loved this show. I was shocked about all the decisions they made. Bc i have horrific curiosity…
one thing i really want to point out too is that bong hwan's selfishness WORKED bc he was selfish. he was involved and too self loving and a dick and used women and people and as a woman in fucking joseon it was perfect because he feels these things being lobbed on him as a fucking woman from a dude from 2021 in fucking south korea so it's literally like you go from being top of the world to fucking NOTHING and trapped and in the body of someone whose life is to LITERALLY be a babymaker slave basically. and he's like not used to it at all and has this hsit thrown on him and his selfishness goes in full force because he cant believe it's not the modern age and he's a woman now even if he doesnt even feel like one. it's all so stupid and absurd that his abysmal behavior works bc it shows US THE VIEWERS how disgusting it is and how his attitude which harms people isnt seen as charming like it would be in another body (AND GEE WHY NOT) even if he has the same wants and needs as sthe woman he inhabits. all of it is so stacked in the social commentary (and again set in fuckin joseon where they have a discussion about like democracy which is hilarious as an american and just as a fellow human on capitalistm's Earth Hell) that's a huge part of why this shit IS ENJOYABLE to see tht's WHY when you try and think too much about it and explain it without diving into the absurdity that is gender and sex and roles and capital or whatever and how it has fuckin sustained itself it works. once you try and justify the follies you fall into this fucking problem and that's exactly where the explanation fo how BH survives with a penis marrs the like 20 minutes in the last ep. we try too hard to make sense of things that dont need it. the whole show is absurd so what is it about bonghwan and him in different bodies and different worlds needed to be justified why having a huge part of himself removed in the last act to wrap things up....
How else do you expect it to end? Him remaining with SoYong still trapped in the same body? It was evident she…
The og material has a diff ending which is an artists wont that’s for sure but it begs some questions. I don’t even think it would have been progressive, they just fell into a trap that they could have gotten out of. That’s a mixture of probably not the greatest thinking in terms of the show and maybe it’s due to their own limitations (in what they think would make sense for a story especially gender-wise. Fair enough.) That being said I think it is arguable at best to say Bonghwan didnt enjoy himself but also that bonghwan and so yong ARE one which is why so bong does make sense. And i think a lot of that is to do with the way we see gender. Like the whole time we’re worrying about if he’s a boy or a girl when BH’s concern was about survival and self-love and eventually that’s what had to happen for all charcters. They apologized for not knowing and loving THEMSELVES. Which I can get in line with BH being able to live his life in his timeline as a better person. But he had an affinity with this female form, there’s a reason SY chose him and he her, and the ease in which he was so bong was presented so well BECAUSE the show did such a good job. So it’s a shame to kind of have that fall away to kind of over-explain in a clumsy way. They absolutely could have remained the same I maintain, genuinely, and figured out a way for BH’s life to make sense (IF he survived but its’ fantasy! Anything is possible!)
I will remember this drama for how brilliant the performances of the cast are. Shin Hye Sun as the female lead…
I hope her next drama is good as hell. Only one drama of hers I have skipped (with L) so im ready for more from her. She plays some of my fav female cahracters ever.
This was the perfect show all the way till the last half hour when Bong Hwan wakes up in the present.... After…
In the book does he stay as a man in the body? I mean it’s like a hybrid the whole thing about it was that the gender shit wasnt explained and it was just like oh yea now hes here and he likes himself as a woman and this dude. WHY COULDNT THEY KEEP THAT. But ty for saying that its’ mostly good and just the little part of the ending in ep 20 cos i miss them ;-; they did do a great job!
Im on ep 18 and i loved this show. I was shocked about all the decisions they made. Bc i have horrific curiosity i read about the ending. I thought they were just gonna hand wave it away like they have been doing. So. Interesting. Idk if i should finish i mean i will but. Hm.
Also this show was never going to be a BL. I find people having an issue with the critcism or criticizing need to understand that. Like this show was NEVER going to be a BL and it’s a problem that that’s where our minds are at if we cant understand how silly gender is and has been treated in the show as it should be. That’s the saddest part because it was about who they were/are. Really, the captivating part of the show was how much it didnt give a shit about gender and how much it did have to say about a women’s place. That’s why i definitely agree that they all ggrew from this experience. I think it woudl have been way more powerful to keep the lines blurred and figure out a way because it is fantasy. None of this is real. That’s the real issue here. And i wonder, was it because of the implications of the story? Or what? We spend weeks with a drama and given how well it was written and acted and the cast and crew then absolutely they have to be ready and open to criticism. That doesn’t negate the weeks and weeks we spent. I will rate this drama very highly still. It’s really fantastic and fun. That being said, it’s a piece of work that was presented to the world and now it will be critiqued as it should be. I am not sure about what their intent is with the finalizing of the story esp since the CN vers it is based on goes in a “better” direction. So was it because of restrictions? There was a lot in the show I found to be heavy handed that I dont’ agree with (idealizing politics, monarchy, SK; but that’s capitalism for us) so was the ending written in a way to not confuse people and be as unfinessed and straight as possible? What was teh reason? Did it serve its purpose? For me, it doesnt. But the show is about all of them and we have the family of Sobong and yea Mr Queen is at least a show I’ll remember forever. And Shin Hye Sun and KJH fucking KILLED it. I always loved them and I hope we can see them together again. I hope the cast and crew had fun adn the crew were treated with dignity!
Now onto thinking about the gender and sexual implications for the next month
