there's no need to lower it as it's more than fair... if S2 first part was as good as S1 then the rating would…
men are, actually, harsher when it comes to things they don't like especially if it isn't focused on them. bc psychology said so. also marketing and psychology do have a lot to do with it. the condescending nature of ratings is actually male dominated, not bc we are more forgiving, it's bc men are loud and don't like shutting up.
it wouldn't matter anyway but you're positing that the rating is higher because we are women but it's actually lower in quality so women aren't discerning enough and that's where people find your comment insulting. and plenty of women have the fortitude and wherewithal to explain why they feel the way they do, we're not forgiving YOUR perceived mistakes.
i love it so much. i just do. and i cry a lot with each episode. as opposed to Life where i don't think the writer did a great job with evolution, here i think she does it deftly. there's not an episode that goes by where i don't feel the shells or remnants of what they have gone through and i think that's the strongest suit of the show.
i don't believe in a carceral state so fundamentally this is a show i am sincerely against from its ideas but it helps us explore our own conceptions and solidifies my own. also every week we see more and more how much the team makes female subjugation integral to the show. sadly, i don't think our favs can ever escape. i don't love the business storyline but i KNOW it's gonna be important so im gonna have to pay attn. and bc 7-8 were so high octane and we are left on a limb i think we're really hooked now so the pacing got that right for sure

i wish i could respond to all the good comments. but what i am in awe of in s2 is just how much s1 affects it. so i guess i get kind of sad that people don't like s2 as much because s1 is IMPERATIVE for s2 and maybe for me i'm like "i wish ppl would notice it more" but honestly it's heart wrenching
Sorry if this is not related to the drama, but can someone give me drama recommendation similar to this?
i'm gonna separate them into diff categories but they're all crime/thriller/fucked up dramas but this one is one of a kind, as are these so nothing is going to mimic it even if it tried its hardest. which can be frustrating sometimes when you don't want to rewatch for the 10000th time.
(* are my favs or ones that once were but i think are pretty stellar even with flaws...)
crime not particularly political but police focused: - signal* (for me a warning would be sexual violence against women, but it's a pretty good plot. used to be one of my favs and a major fav in general) - life on mars -*children of nobody* (deals w/ child abuse) - nobody knows (deals w/ child abuse)
slower thrillers: - save me + save me 2* (2 being my fav, but they are about cults and exploitation rather than whatever scale this is on. save me 2 is my favorite and more about community exploitation via a formation of a cult while save me is about like theist cult exploitation. i like save me 2 more because of the similar pacing and feel—melancholy and expectations subverted— i got to love in FoS but many found it boring) - confession (about double jeopardy) - would recommend the good detective along with this (goes in the crime category but they have extremely similar themes however it is way more lax) - sky castle* (it IS a thriller and it is social commentary but it isn't political in FoS nature)
this isnt the same vein but i would put it in the caliber of these shows that i just enjoy. theyre both my favorites. this is bonkers thrillers and/or kind of horrors that are insane: - trap - strangers from hell
i think mother falls into the category of good pacing and fucked up situations and extracurricular people said was stellar as well
the director of stranger s1 did "watcher" but i find that show almost incomprehensible though it is gorgeous. i might give it a rewatch but i kind of hated the atmosphere. i have a lot of issues with it but i know many people liked it. but, again, stylistically gorgeous and different which surprised me
do some story from s1 connected in s2?i forgot the story from s1 lol, and i dont want to rewatch
tbh i think you should watch s1 because without it s2 wouldn't be as impactful. but if you dont want to rewatch ;-; there's a lot of emotion and impact from s1 which is why i appreciate it so much. at least watch last ep of s1!
Just started the second season and finished episode one so it's still early days and I will probably end up editing…
how did u feel abt the ending of s1? my biggest complaint, something i will NEVER forget or forgive, is the way he solves the mystery at the end of s1 (and i rewatched s1 a couple days before the premier.) to me, that showed how they kind of backed themselves into a corner. lazy writing.
comparatively this is less angering but i didnt even think of it that way so thanks for pointing it out lol i think the point of this was to show influence of social media. idk what the point of the Discovery of s1 was tho. no amtter how many times i watch it, i will never like the way they figured it out -___-
also this season is based off of a case of a minister of justice being pushed out in 54 days by right wing prosecution after being appointed by pres. moon to reform prosecutory rule. fascinating stuff
ty for the link! will try and read. id on't trust either or believe in either but given that it is in the constitution from may 16 that prosecutors are supreme basically was an insane revelation. ironically it differs so much from the US even though the US are a huge influence. i never knew how different it could be from here (US) but my main issue with the politics of it all seems to boil down to all of them being pretty shitty, so it doesn't matter who is in control of what. but that type of power is...it's pretty nuts. thank you for the ranking thing. i am having a hard time understanding the police's roles as well if any1 can give insight (i do NOT understand the national police agency or the police school. i know it has to do with classism just like prosecution but im soo confused. also they mention the autonomous police and it's so so sos so confusing to meeee)
talking w/ a friend and hsm really does look lost and sad. but he left after an insanely traumatic event and deaths of two people; one who influenced and changed his life forever. he also had that breakdown and his emotions came more to the forefront. then was moved away from any familiarity, hda the PM case (which i hope we will get more insight on), and then comes back to a place after being jerked around. he is a knife that's used to pierce a skin and be put away. it's only natural. on the other hand, when he's with people he's familiar with he can be more emotive—asking about her drawings is a huge step.
rewatching the differences between s1 and s2 become more and more clear in a good way. there's a maturity in every sense of the word. the physically aging, passage of time, societal issues in SK and globally. the world isn't stagnant nor should it be. they weren't frozen in time, they were living whole lives without us. emotionally i think the kang won chul convo is hard-hitting and what happens after, what kwc does for him is a turning point (just rewatched)
I actually enjoyed reading your comment and the paper you linked; this is a place where k-drama fans can discuss…
"I’ve been reading about the current President in South Korea. When he was elected, he promised to reform the prosecution and to make a fairer and more equitable Korea so that everyone had a chance. He appointed Cho kuk, a progressive with a history of defending human rights, to the Ministry of Justice. The prosecution brought the new Minister down in something like 54 days, accusing him of corruption and his wife and family of academic fraud. They destroyed his reputation. Books are being written about it. It does seem as if the Minister was guilty of using his power and influence for his own benefit, but nowhere near as much as the right wing elements in Korea maintained, but I think the jury is still out. It depends who you read. The good intentions of the President were totally sabotaged by the prosecution and those in power who had something to lose. People demonstrated for weeks in the streets both for and against him. The new Minister of Justice is busy getting rid of those who defended the prosecution, but the key person is said to be in the running to be the next President of Korea. This is what FOS2 is based on. It’s a story that must be told and it’s a bit depressing. Your question, “is there a side besides the one of people?” is the one that should be asked again and again, even if it feels you are shouting into the abyss." https://www.dramabeans.com/members/boughtabride/activity/1124123/#acomment-1124142
I actually enjoyed reading your comment and the paper you linked; this is a place where k-drama fans can discuss…
thank you so much! helps me feel less silly, truly. i will try my best to be more concise. and i am glad u liked the paper! another thing i learned from the person who linked the paper, gonna c/p what she said:
wow that's a really difficult time for people! sorry it's so late over there. that's def like...well companies know the times thatll really mess w/ ratings. sucks cos yall like it a lot
;---; i thought so after the end of ep 6, when i wasnt feelin it as much as others but i was surprised she said what she did. ty for your answer, i think when i have more mental space i'll try again! hope it's been an interesting ride
rewatching e5-6 cos i have to cos im dumb and i really desperately want them back together again lmao so please next week onward we see them w/ each other all the time i love everything else and think it's necessary but i am DYING
i stopped for a while though i finished ep 6. i didnt plan to come back and if i did not until it is over but how have the char. developments been since ep6? i was one of those who cares the most about cha ji won and nothing abt their marriage so i'm curious about her. but it's going to be delayed bc of covid? i would rather them be safe anyway but i hope the script is finalized so they can go back and wrap it up in consistence. really sucks that this is happening
The editing is perhaps the biggest hinderance to this fully feeling like the original. The biggest litmus test…
i would love to discuss this more but tbh i think the editing is one of the weakest things in the show. this season it got much better in the moments it needed it the most. there's some things i honestly would never keep. the bathroom scenes at the station in Segok shocked me bc they were so well done. i usually skip the knife parts in s1. there's also this particular sound they use when the passage of time is denoted, and it's very good, but i would really hate those scenes as i thought they would go on too long. i think this just shows a huge part of preference. as an editor, my preference for these decisions are much preferred. i feel like it's just way more refined but idk, im going to go back to the scenes u mentioned. i think it seems more refined to me bc the show is a lot broader than theway others may view it and that's why i prefer it. idk. anyway not many ppl comment on editing here and it's the most important thing
