I understand the people praising this and indeed its a solid production, still I can't help feeling a bit disappointed.…
but (IMO, i dont THINK since i must clarify on everything ever or it's me being rude) that's not what this show was originally about and they didn't want that. it's always been an ensemble show and i think the way hsm and hyj work in the world surrounded by adversaries or people who don't get them in a broader context is wonderful!
as usual love it. there's really no complaints i have and if i do they are minimal. the pacing, the setting, the tone, the interweaving of s1, and, most importantly, the writing. the show excels because of the words and the way they're reinforced within the setting, editing, acting. literally every word counts.
the reason why i liked s1 the first time i saw it and thought it was interesting but didn't really think about it super deeply is because i didn't realize how imperative the dialogue to this show is. it's laden with political and social connotations and the idea of connection. also the beginning connection to a literal accident and what's happening with the bridge will be heavy.
keep saying this....s1 is so important to s2's existence not just in a literal way it is within the conversations these people have. so, like life, they dont ignore this huge piece of trauma and life changing history. and s1 is IN s2, like idk DNA or some shit. that's the element of truth to life i find in the show and the emotional intelligence i believe to be portrayed within the dialogue. our quest for why is what propels us every week but the journey there is why we continue to look, absorb, rewind, go back, feel excitement, highs, and lows. what's that one quote...it's not the destination...ahhaha
For reason im kinda surprised that Choi Bit is a mother. I found myself wondering if her and Woo Tae Ha were romantically…
I SWEAR THEY HAD SOMETHIN ;) i def think she will. i mean i think hyj already is but i would be starstruck too in a way (if i would ever be a cop which i wouldnt) also her boss from last time (i forgot his name lmao the one at yongsan) he disappointed her so much but the good part of her is her ability to just try and do better. i really respect that about her
The eternal debate "If 1st season is better than the 2nd one" is still open as I see . For my part both are good…
i was thinking: could we say that s2 is a season as we know it in the western term? i don't really know what people want but if i think about breaking bad the differences in seasons (well 1 from the rest) are stark but each having their own merit. it's a continuation and s1 was its own grounding point..ironically kinda reminds me of this british cop show that's so fucking weird (i forgot the name) it's a series but they approach the themes differently with one overarching power....wtf is this show called
the most frustrating part for me is not letting this season stand both as a part of the show but also as it's own piece of work where the creators have evolved. a mark of any artist...whether they execute it well or not isn't mutually exclusive to how good s1 was but it doesn't rely on it as one seems to think. also flaws are impossible to dodge, we all have diff opinions, but our negative opinions or gripes shouldn't be borne from how much better something already is. it's passed and done and we have this now. it's like hearing a new album from an artist you love, seeing a new film, etc and lord knows that means being open to change—this goes with series as well especially bc the korean format is different. and i love arguments (not in a mean way) but like exchanging information but i dont think people who are here to complain about it without engagement love that. so it makes us figuring out why they wouldnt like the show harder and more annoying.
anywayS first of all what about WTH and CB..... (eyes emoji) i was thinkig kidnapper was the boy but it's a big dude. i also think the prosecutor is def entertwined. remember in the early eps when he waved at her and she bows while they walk away but she looks back. also why did hsm look at her like that after she talks about war + peace and what is the significance~
oh and re the last part some of my fav people just couldn't connect w/ s1 and it made me sad cos i love it so much but i really get it. this show honestly isn't for everyone, i'm surprised there's not more dissent (well im not this website is brutal) but explaining the issues they had with it or why it was just extremely difficult to engage. i think one common thing is the emotional hole they may feel. also first 4 eps are ZZZZZ out of context lmao
there's no need to lower it as it's more than fair... if S2 first part was as good as S1 then the rating would…
men are, actually, harsher when it comes to things they don't like especially if it isn't focused on them. bc psychology said so. also marketing and psychology do have a lot to do with it. the condescending nature of ratings is actually male dominated, not bc we are more forgiving, it's bc men are loud and don't like shutting up.
it wouldn't matter anyway but you're positing that the rating is higher because we are women but it's actually lower in quality so women aren't discerning enough and that's where people find your comment insulting. and plenty of women have the fortitude and wherewithal to explain why they feel the way they do, we're not forgiving YOUR perceived mistakes.
i love it so much. i just do. and i cry a lot with each episode. as opposed to Life where i don't think the writer did a great job with evolution, here i think she does it deftly. there's not an episode that goes by where i don't feel the shells or remnants of what they have gone through and i think that's the strongest suit of the show.
i don't believe in a carceral state so fundamentally this is a show i am sincerely against from its ideas but it helps us explore our own conceptions and solidifies my own. also every week we see more and more how much the team makes female subjugation integral to the show. sadly, i don't think our favs can ever escape. i don't love the business storyline but i KNOW it's gonna be important so im gonna have to pay attn. and bc 7-8 were so high octane and we are left on a limb i think we're really hooked now so the pacing got that right for sure

i wish i could respond to all the good comments. but what i am in awe of in s2 is just how much s1 affects it. so i guess i get kind of sad that people don't like s2 as much because s1 is IMPERATIVE for s2 and maybe for me i'm like "i wish ppl would notice it more" but honestly it's heart wrenching
Sorry if this is not related to the drama, but can someone give me drama recommendation similar to this?
i'm gonna separate them into diff categories but they're all crime/thriller/fucked up dramas but this one is one of a kind, as are these so nothing is going to mimic it even if it tried its hardest. which can be frustrating sometimes when you don't want to rewatch for the 10000th time.
(* are my favs or ones that once were but i think are pretty stellar even with flaws...)
crime not particularly political but police focused: - signal* (for me a warning would be sexual violence against women, but it's a pretty good plot. used to be one of my favs and a major fav in general) - life on mars -*children of nobody* (deals w/ child abuse) - nobody knows (deals w/ child abuse)
slower thrillers: - save me + save me 2* (2 being my fav, but they are about cults and exploitation rather than whatever scale this is on. save me 2 is my favorite and more about community exploitation via a formation of a cult while save me is about like theist cult exploitation. i like save me 2 more because of the similar pacing and feel—melancholy and expectations subverted— i got to love in FoS but many found it boring) - confession (about double jeopardy) - would recommend the good detective along with this (goes in the crime category but they have extremely similar themes however it is way more lax) - sky castle* (it IS a thriller and it is social commentary but it isn't political in FoS nature)
this isnt the same vein but i would put it in the caliber of these shows that i just enjoy. theyre both my favorites. this is bonkers thrillers and/or kind of horrors that are insane: - trap - strangers from hell
i think mother falls into the category of good pacing and fucked up situations and extracurricular people said was stellar as well
the director of stranger s1 did "watcher" but i find that show almost incomprehensible though it is gorgeous. i might give it a rewatch but i kind of hated the atmosphere. i have a lot of issues with it but i know many people liked it. but, again, stylistically gorgeous and different which surprised me
