Just finished watching Stranger 2 last night and I hope there's a Season 3. I just felt the ending was kinda rushed…
it def needs a s3
On Stranger Season 2 Oct 16, 2020
10/10 (ok no i never give shows that but it's a high mark)

i can't wait for season 3
i cry when i think about the show
WE GOT A GIFT thank you LORD!!!!!

if there is no s3 i think that would do a huge disservice to this show so i hope there is. i think this season, especially if there's a context of further seasons, will be one of the best. hoping all the intuition of the fans is right and we get a third season because it's clear they can do it, they have the material and drive, and the cast and crew love being a part of this endeavor.

Finally watched it, wanted to do it in one-go, so waited until it concluded and got uploaded on Netflix, and yep,…
i agree with you full stop. i'm not a huge fan of Life but the writer has made her mark. i like what you said about "prestigious" american television because i feel like this show is truly one of the best series of tv period. i was thinking of the series format like breaking bad; s1 was a blueprint and the seasons that came after were so different but we can't say the show wasn't brilliant.

and it makes us want to keep watching but it's still very distinct and korean (ofc!) like i feel like the world is given a gift. after all for the shows you mentioned we follow characters who are so nuts but like....i would have never thought i would feel the way i do about lee chang jun when i watched the first episode of stranger. EVERYTHING MEANS SOMETHING and we reap the benefits! thank you for sharing

oh and i think that as people watch the show more they will see it with cho seung woo. i am glad his partner, his friend, his opposite, hyj got to show herself and bae doo na through her but their emotional arcs are so different that i think with more inspection it will hep others realize just how much si mok /has/ changed through csw. that's why csw and bae doo na kill it

they're on two different plans though. there's a false equivalence. however, the subjugation of women allows the…
*planes. so the objectification of men shouldn't be seen as "just as bad" as the other because the objectification of women is what allows the objectification of men. we put them on equal value when the rate of what happens to women is larger because it is used as a tool of oppression. and a (major) side effect is what happens to men. however, men still have objective power in every scenario (and with every interaction there's different things at play. a white woman and a black man's power imbalance, a thin woman and a fat man and their realities, a straight woman and a gay man, shit like that.)

there's no other way around because they both enter the same way. the outcome is: women are less than. men happen to face not the same type nor the same rate of scrutiny but the affects of what happens when judgement and power over [x] group prevails. i am not saying their objectification doesn't exist. it absolutely does nor should we strive to objectify men. but it is not just men; however if men are taken seriously it does not mean that women will be. it is impossible. so we have to approach it from an understanding of patriarchy, capital, misogyny, gender, race, etc

i don't know how much i agree about ghost busters since that was kind of the point. the idea of the "himbo" has risen because bimbo is what women are seen as. i don't think it's a pejorative when it highlights the bullshit we (women) go through and men don't. his character in the film shows how ridiculous it is for women in their roles and also that a man can be so stupid and kept in his job just to look at. it's not supposed to be something that is good.

in the dramas you mentioned i do agree. i think for writers they think they're doing a subversion but it just makes it worse for women and puts the man in a terrible position where no one believes him. the problem is that if sexual assault and harassment was taken seriously for women and not seen as sexual prowess, or just about sex, and not about power etc then we would actually believe men could be in these positions. in strong woman do bong soon a huge problem with that is the abusive wife; it's disgusting but it isn't taken seriously because of course women can't do that to men! men are strong! so yes, it should change, but it cannot change in a vacuum. assault and abuse are considered almost choices and the faults of women and they don't take into account power, influence, emotionally and physical patterns. there's different degrees of it towards men in media, as well, but in the worst instances like SWDBS it makes a mockery of it all.

but it just shows that it's not taken seriously the other way. in every kdrama's account i have seen of a male accusing a woman of rape there's ALWAYS some sort of justification/ it's actually disgusting. and it reinforces that women are liars and all of it is just a choice, an illusion, or somehow just singular and personal instead of a whole system of encouragement and continuation.

that essay mentions that it is seen as absurdist humor (it will NEVERRRR happen) or by women who are perceived as ugly, manly, black women, women of color etc. all these women that can't "get" "sex"—and rape and objectification are not about sex and looks on its own—are the perpetrators.

his end hypothesis is that "just because men are not taken seriously it does not mean women are" and he cuts to the kavanaugh hearing which is one of the worst things we've had to see as americans. he says, then, that it is indicative of "blame and shame that female survivors deal with on a daily basis." it's a disgusting amalgamation of subjugation of women and rigid gender roles etc. sorry this is so long but someone in the comments mentions what happened to shia labeouf and that is a prime example of how dismissed it is and th ereasons are the ones that patriarchy decided to create. these all have to be looked at specifically. one thing is for sure, we misunderstand it. it is seen as requisite for women. therefore, it does not matter if it happens to men.

i agree that they are unnecessary, i agree these people are seen as products, and i agree that it is gross. in SK the focus on looks and bodies is different than in each country. i wouldn't say the way it manifests is worse, because societally we all come together to harm anyway, but i would say that in a way that i don't see as visibly in the US men are subject to the physical expectations. while PS would be seen as more effeminate in america (actors will lean towards steroids) it is common there. the one thing is that body obsession is universal. in SK's culture i would say i would never want to experience that even though fat hate and body shame are disgusting where i'm from.

that being said, this has to be put into the context of oppression of women and capitalism. if these gender binaries weren't so strict, if we didn't allow the market to demand what others do, and most importantly if we didn't see female objectification (or have rigid ideas of beauty and gender) the burden on male objectivation would lessen. it is as serious but is part of a broader problem. men dominate, even if there are rich women (which i object to) in positions of power. in modeling, for example, men are subject to things in the ways women are in everyday but the fashion industry is built on exploitation in general and exploitation of women.

it's not isolated at all. they want conformity, coercion of body ideals, for others to hate themselves because that drives participation in looking. i don't agree with it at all. i will say, though, that i find it interesting the way many men, actors, feel about objectification. i never really thought about it until this mixed actor (his race is also very important) from a show talked about how difficult it was for him to be seen as a sexual object. he hated it and it made him feel disgusting. we want men to be domineering and masculine and we want that idea to be held over women. but the toxic masculine ideals hurt them; our pain (women's) will reinforce theirs. additionally, men who have eating disorders, in which i've seen more korean actors talk about (which is sad as hell) is a hard thing to cure. for straight men it's more of an enigma since there is less pressure. but when everyone is looking at you as an actor or bodybuilder etc i imagine it's a burden. it just isnt as tied to literal character as it is for women. hopefully this makes sense.

men should realize that this is how women feel all the time. and we should realize that if men feel this way then of course we would want to eliminate all of it. i would despise being put down to just my body, i already am as a a woman, but if i was doing a job i would hate that. this is why in kdramas (this would be harassment really elsewhere) when they talk about how good looking a female employee is it drives me nuts. so yea, why wouldnt a man experience that? they are not mutually exclusive. also when people say it's not "all like that" these are systemic problems that dont get paired down to the individual. i doubt that people want to do their job and someone's like "yea so we're gonna stick this in here while youre showering cos...that's what the market demands" it's honestly cringe-y and weird tbh.

the awareness lies with all of it. maybe this will lead people to understand just how much men are disenfranchised within a patriarchal, sexually conservative, misogynist society that puts down gender and sexual minorities. but the onus should be placed on the most marginalized liberation. i do really hate to see stuff like this (male objectification), though, it makes me sad that we misunderstand all of it because then for ex, i dont reallize my own participation. and it really sucks people have to feel like their looks an dbody mean more. it doesnt bc it should be the content (but hey!)
