That was such a wake-up call because it forced him to confront the fact that he had used his power and status to disregard basic respect simply because Lanxiang’s family was of lower status.

Now that was an invisible slap to the face.

I really hope this conversation knocks some sense into our ML and makes him realize just how blinded he has been by his own status and privilege. I’m still rooting for him, but I also hope the writers know when to pull him back, because if they keep pushing this side of his character too far, he risks becoming very difficult to redeem.

I really like Lanxiang’s fearless lecture about how much she hates the way Jing Qi uses his power to get what he wants without considering how it affects others. The fact that she can say all of this directly to his face, despite his higher status, already shows how strongly she advocates for herself. And then, of course, there are the slaps. 😂 At least for that era, that already feels like a form of empowerment. But i would really start hating the writers if they continue to make jing qi commit the same mistakes….

Yes, he’s already gotten two slaps, and Lanxiang’s lecture really hit a nerve because she went straight for Jing Qi’s biggest blind spot—his tendency to use his power and status without fully realizing how unfair it feels to the person on the receiving end. If he still doesn’t learn something from all this, then I honestly don’t know what the writers plan to do with his character.

You’re right. Jing Qi’s conversation with Grandpa is another scene that highlights how much he still needs to learn, especially about navigating power, privilege, and status without simply assuming they give him the right to decide for others.

I agree that Lanxiang doesn’t deserve an immature man. But people are multi-layered. Jing Qi can be immature and inconsiderate toward her while still being, at his core, a good son, a good brother, and a good master to his servants.

What we’ve seen so far is that he simply isn’t a good husband yet. He clearly has a lot to learn when it comes to relationships, but that also makes sense considering his lack of experience. His first marriage was a failure, and I think falling in love with Lanxiang is meant to become his opportunity to finally learn how to understand, respect, and love another person properly. I am hoping after this second slap, he would at least have a better grasp.

We’ll see… if Lanxiang survived being the sole survivor of the Shen family, there’s no reason she can’t handle her husband now.

Yeah, and he keeps bringing up Han Scholar, which is clearly getting on Lanxiang’s nerves. 😂 I think it’s deliberately showing just how little Jing Qi truly understands her at this point - what she hates , what she went through….

But that’s also why I’m interested in watching them grow—both individually and as a couple. As much as Jing Qi may not seem worthy of Lanxiang… he is also, quite literally, her fate. It is what it is. 😂

And I think Lanxiang being showing resilience from the very beginning means she would find ways to survive her marriage too

I am more bothered by the amount of commenters threatening they would drop watching as if they are jing qi’s wife, threatening a divorce.

Come on this is lanxiang’s story… she is smart and strong she can deal with her immature husband.

She won’t let him keep using his power to get what he wants without learning to respect her choices and consent. Or else he will keep getting more slaps.

The writers really want to make him look flawed. Clearly this could have been resolved by a conversation but then chose to let him make a terrible move. Let him be unlikeable. In an interview the actor explained that lanxiang will teach jing qi a lot in their relationship…and grow together, we will see

I think he is definitely written as a male lead who loves deeply yet don’t know how to do it the right way, he is clingy, immature and quite insecure, but i want to see how he grows because inherently he is a good man.

I’d love to see Yoo Seung-ho as a romantic lead who’s either a socially awkward, slightly loserish guy or a possessive, toxic one. He’s so good at showing loneliness and obsession through tiny shifts in expression—I think he’d make either character fascinating to watch.

Before they left JQ described themselves as the young couple and LX retorted that he is too old to describe himself as young

JQ: eats heartily this is good. Look, LX keeps staring at me (teasing )she’s complaining i eat too much
LX: i am not. I watch him eating heartily so now i feel like i want to eat too.

you can see the way lx is watching him feels like she is softening a bit because he is making effort to connect with her parents. I think that is important for her

I think she will adapt to her situation and be civil to ML. It will take some time
