All of this, the sad part is it more than likely will end with him and A Jin together. I just don't see how we…
About the end scene in ep 9, part of me wished he'd stopped Tae Wan before he bared his soul (seriously, the only way he could've made himself more vulnerable to hurt in that scene was if he'd been naked while confessing), but the other part is glad Tae Wan didn't let him off the hook and really makes Jin Sung confront his awfulness head-on.
But jfc how beautiful and poetic can our man Tae Wan be? I cry for his being misled into this display of vulnerability. I hope he's not made to climb into his hard shell again. The more I think about it, the more I find Jin Sung unforgivable, as it pertains to Tae Wan.
Even so, Jin Sung is a very human character. A friend was expressing disappointment at how he's able to counsel those around him so well, but doesn't apply his own counsel to himself. Isn't that a very human thing to do, though? How easy is it to see clearly from the outside looking in, while looking inward honestly - and actually taking action - is the hardest thing to do?

We hear a lot about "reflecting upon oneself" in kdramas, I'm hoping this is how it ends for Jin Sung. You know, it occurs to me that an ending like Cheese in the Trap would be acceptable here (I know I'm in the minority when it comes to open endings, I also love those!). Have him disappear, reflect upon his terrible lies, and begin to earn the trust of those he hurt in the process. I agree that it's likelier he'll end up with Ah Jin, but what a copout that would be.
It had me ugly crying. I loved the entire execution of that last scene. But this next episode, I don't think I…
I'm all about tragic characters and cathartic crying through dramas. That scene you mention, if they execute it how we hope they do, is pure catnip to me. I most assuredly will end up in a fetal position, and I'll love every second of it :D
The trail of bodies Jin Sung is leaving in his wake is getting bigger, and I hope he ends up with neither of the two people that have fallen for him - he doesn't deserve either of them.
Tae Wan continues to be the bright spot here - Lee Hak Joo's ability to embody this character's vulnerability is extraordinary. That last scene in ep 9 (and the one in ep 5, too) will stay with me for a long time.

Every character thus far has been great to watch, except the nurse friend, I'm not feeling her.. yet. But let's see next weekend, I'm hopeful that we won't be disappointed :D

It doesn't have LMH in it, how bad can it get? Lol. And if nothing else, we have an *amazing* Oh Jung Se here. I know he's not a looker, but can the guy act?!? Wow. I think if the first two episodes are any indication, we're in for a very tasty treat :)

I did! The irony was definitely not subtle.
I loved all the fantastical elements from her books coming to life in the story, from the credits to the story at the start, to that scene, her costuming, the drawings coming to life. I hope we're not viewing this drama through the filter that is our collective standards dropping after the abysmal production from end-to-end that was TKEM.
Beyond Tim Burton's works, this drama so far also reminded me of Thomas Harris's Red Dragon. The girl calling the witch "omma", the father almost killing her, and just the childhood scars reminded me of how Francis Dolarhyde became a serial killer. Of course it doesn't reach that extreme here, but in a parallel universe (lol) she could've been Dolarhyde's counterpart.
I hope this drama keeps this up for the run and it doesn't become an exercise in masochism, like you said
It's kind of nice.I have no sense of reality after TKEM. Any other drama sounds good. ^^

Given that he'd met her while she was still in high school, and remembered/liked her enough to come back to find her in the same area, and then was shown to remember her when he saw her in that ep1 flashback, why on earth did he make her work so hard for attention at the beginning of the story? This twist made all that chasing at the beginning feel contrived (more than it did at the time)
No matter how bored the present day scenes made me feel, I'm glad I stuck it out for the young love story. The last flashback brought tears all over again, and that song in the final credits *always* makes me cry, no matter the scenes it's used in. I was surprised by one thing, in spoiler tag below.
Thank you, everyone, for the thoughts, insights, and tagged spoilers, they were all a godsend. I'm thankful for your collective sacrifice of watching this last episode so I don't have to <3 <3 <3
You were all part in popping my "drop a drama with 1 episode to go" cherry. I'll never forget TKEM or you all :)
Eh? I missed that. Was that JY line when he was stalked from CCTV at the palace?
"Since flute is whole, yoyo boy becomes powerful agian, and he decides that TE, LG, and JY will retain their memories."
What the hell? I knew the yoyo boy was a convenient plot device, but this memory retention thing is extra. LOL
Thank you for the synopsis. This is the first drama I'll be dropping at 15/16. It's not even "so bad it's good" at this point. It was worth watching for 15, though, for the lols, not so much anymore.
This drama is doing a number to me! Imperfections and all, I love it so much

The rest I'll put under a spoiler tag here.
