Yuanqi is only 200 years old when The Last Immortal started off in the beginning.
Bai Jue was 'at least' 60,000 years old in ALP.
In The Last Immortal, you are watching the journey of the ML growing up from a young teen to an adult, from 200 years old (beginning) to 2200 years old (at the end).
In ALP, you are watching a ML who already gained at least 60,000 years of cultivation and life experiences...
Yuanqi at the beginning, yeah he doesn't like to cultivate to get stronger BUT that was explained in the story why he didn't want to because he didn't want to return to the God Realm. If you understood his childhood you will know why he felt that way. BUT AGAIN, you see when Yuanqi start training just the little time he put into cultivating, he became much stronger on his end. And this is all within a span of not even 10 years...
So when we take their age into consideration, why do people compare the two is really beyond me.
If people like to compare the "Power and Experiences" between a 200 year old ML with a 60,000 year old ML, then let me put this out in the open that in ALP, at the beginning of the drama when Bai Jue returned back to the God Realm and was tricked by Zhiyang to be Shang Gu master,
It was ALSO revealed by BOTH Tianqi and Zhiyang made a comment about Baijue embarrassing moment when the Ancestral God took them to the battlefield when they were young. The details in ALP was never disclosed but it was considered an embarrassing moment that Bai Jue made them promise to not mention it again.
So, honestly looking at this, I'm sure that when Baijue was 200 years old, he wasn't that "great, strong and perfect" either... and certainly does have its own share of embarrassing moments to the point that he made both Zhiyang and Tianqi promise to not mention it again. Tianqi hinted if that was disclosed than Bai Jue will be a laughing target by everyone and Bai Jue True God image will be ruined...
Honestly I'm not saying this to bring down Bai Jue's character in ALP because I LOVE him in ALP but if people are going to compare the life experiences between a 200 year old to a 60,000 year old is just ridiculously illogical.
Everyone have their own growing stages to develop to who they will be in the end. We saw the growing stage from Gu Jin at the beginning when he's 200 years old, to True God Yuanqi at the end when he's 2200 years old....
Give Yuanqi 57,800 years of life experiences, I'm sure that he will be just as great as his father and definitely his power will be on par with his father Bai Jue, if not equal than perhaps stronger since he have ALOT of potential to become much stronger as he's shown he The Last Immortal
Both Yuanqi (TLI ML) and Bai Jue (ALP ML) are great characters that while yes, they give off different aura of being a True God, but that doesn't take away who they are because Yuanqi in his own way is similar to his father, but showing differences at the same time and their roles as True God. As ML, they both love the FL with their whole being but have take different paths to protect the FL in their respective story.
ML is so weak and impulsive and also stubborn person. A true God representation of him didn't suit him compared…
"ML is weak" If you take into consideration that Yuanqi was 200 when the Last Immortal took place at the beginning, and just through the little times he actually put his heart into cultivating, he has improved so much when he went to the heaven realm as "God of War" role(bear in mind that he haven't awaken to True god yet). This is not weak, that's called potential to be much stronger. He's only 200 years old here in comparison to his father Baijue being 60k years old with all those experience on his end... That's a HUGE GAP in age difference if you are going to compare with the experiences and power here. Remember how BOTH Tianqi and Zhiyang made a comment about Baijue embarrassing moment when the Ancestral God took them to the battlefield when they were young? The details in ALP was never disclosed but it was considered an embarrassing moment that Bai Jue made them promise to not mention it again. So looking at this, I'm sure that when Baijue was 200 years old, he wasn't that "great, strong and perfect" either... Everyone have their own growing stages to develop to who they will be 10k plus years later....
Anyone who have watched the drama properly (without spoiling the details here), would understand that the ML(GuJin / Yuanqi) is NOT weak if we look at the amount he put in to do all that yet he still have those powers left in him to continue for another 1000 years. Even at the end, he played a main role in sealing Mingqi, which to Mingqi, Yuanqi was a threat to him
"ML is impulsive" Every characters have made mistakes in stories and they are not exempted to only a specific character. Bai Jue have made mistakes as well.
Yuanqi has too, but they are mistakes that lead into character development that makes him stronger through the growth you see in him.
In everything ML(Gujin or Yuanqi) does, he learns from it to be a better version of himself and I wouldn't say he is impulsive in the regard that he actually uses his head and was the only sane and logical one aside from those stupid immortals who doesn't think or use their brains and fall into Qing Lin(Bitch fox) trap.
There are also a few occasions we saw YQ is not impulsive where he will wait and ensure the time is right before going through with it, like how FY want to go to the Abyssal prison but YQ suggest against it since it's not the right time.
To be honest I love how ML Yuanqi is portrayed in this drama, because it really shows the growth in him from beginning to the end.
For me I never see YQ is weak. He's actually both physically and mentally strong, which he shows in his own way throughout the series.
Crying is pathetic to you? Ummm the times he cried are completely understandable and why are you comparing to Baijue here? Bai Jue also cried in ALP too and he is over 60K years old when that happened, did you criticize him for crying? If you don't why are you having double standard against Yuanqi here?!
On a side note I love both Bai Jue and Yuanqi as characters in their respective stories. They have different auras that they presented that makes them different and have taken different paths in their role as True God.
If you truly understand Yuanqi as a character and see it from his perspective, then you will understand what he's been through on his end, but judging from your comment you really don't understand YQ character at all if you said he's a crybaby or weak or impulsive because what you said in your comment make me doubt if you have even watched the drama properly at all.
Yuanqi is a loveable character in my eyes. Those who watch the drama and understand his character and feelings will love him, but judging from your comment you don't so I can just say you really don't understand YQ character if you can say all that
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
I hope more people will come to love this drama and not listen to negative reviews without giving this show a try
You can definitely see growth in the ML and the characters from the beginning to the end and that's one thing I love about it because you see how much they've grown in the end.
Even when Gujin / Yuanqi is still young, he really showed me he did his very best, above and beyond to save and project the FL(A-Yin) and I'm very happy that she gets to have some like Yuanqi who loves and protect her like that.
I was really sad when he sacrificed himself to seal Mingqi but I will be lying if I say I didn't like Mingqi, because he really played a big role in reviving Yuanqi on his end and he earned that freedom in the end.
I hope your sister will love this drama too as much as we all do, those who come into watching this without any bias hate and leaving aside those negative reviews.
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
I love giving comments in light of the situation and character perspectives especially ones I really love and yeah I'm honestly glad my review helps cancel out your negative views on the ML (Yuanqi), because in the end he's definitely a favourite character of mines and one worth protecting
I said the same thing how the annoying aunt Hongchou finally said something that doesn't annoy me and cleared up all that misunderstanding!
And now that you've watched episode 35, I will give you another insight hoe I felt about that "dream",
I honestly felt like what happened in that dream was REAL. Yes, it's a dream but everything that happened in that dream was controlled by their actions, they are conscious in their dream.
To me I believe that dream happened is like a reflection to Feng Yin's feelings for Yuanqi after she learned the whole truth from Hong Chou(she finally said something that doesn't piss me off!).
Before all this, what FengYin was disappointed in Yuan Qi was due to that misunderstanding that she formed on him where she thought that her life significance and status as A-Yin being the water divine beast is not in equal status to him as True God, and she misunderstood Yuanqi being the same as his aunt Hong Chou for caring about this whole status hierarchy.... It doesn't help when Aunt Hong Chou was there to cause more unnecessary misunderstanding to build on her insecurities as A-Yin.
So when she returned as the Phoenix Queen, Feng Yin, which everyone looks up to, she thought Yuanqi "loved" and pursue again is because her identity now is more of equal status to him. But she was wrong. When that dream happened, it was a reflection to her strong feelings of regret that she wanted to go back to those happy times in Daze mountain days, before all this misunderstanding occurred.
It was also Yuanqi way of fixing his mistakes as well to make things right. What he said are things that happened in the present time, e.g. how he found out the truth that it was Fengyin who helped him back then and not Bitch Huashu.
I actually love how that dream was shown because I said it in here previously when I first watched that episode, that I felt sorry for Yuanqi because he never properly gets to celebrate his birthday with his parents before all this ðŸ˜.
So when A-Yin said "Happy Birthday" to him in her dream, it was her way of fixing her regret because in reality when it was Yuanqi's birthday she didn't wish him a happy birthday and she was still pretty cold towards him back then too ... So I love how she said that in her dream and how she told Yuanqi that she want to always be there with him to celebrate his birthday every year. That was so touching for me personally, because this is a reflection of how she really feels. She wants to always be there with him to celebrate his birthday and all those times they can to create those beautiful memories together.
Yuanqi doesn't need a grand celebration (like what HS prepared for him), all he wanted was to celebrate his birthday with those he loves, even if it's something simple like what we saw in that dream.
I'm happy at that scene because what A-Yin said to Yuanqi is what I want her to say to him. On his birthday he didn't need to feel alone anymore, because she will always be by his side to celebrate it with him. That was such a meaningful thing to say(since I felt sad for him prior to all this).
Yuanqi wished A-Yin a happy birthday back then, and now, 1000 years later she did the same for him ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
And good thing for Yuanqi because he can also use this moment to fix his regret where he wasn't able to back then, he really wanted to tell A-Yin back then that he loved her, but he never got the chance to , which his strong feelings of regret was manifested into his own dream back then when A-Yin was gone. It is nice that they both can go back to those days, despite it being a dream but they are both conscious in their actions etc and have this chance to confess his true feelings to A-Yin that the person he truly love back then and now has always been A-Yin. It isn't because A-Yin have become FengYin with a high status that Yuanqi love and pursue FengYin but it is because FengYin is A-Yin, they are the same person to Yuanqi, and his love for A-Yin did not start off because of his gratitude that she saved him back then, but it was because his feelings for her developed through their time together when he was Gujin and she is A-Yin. I honestly think deep down, this is the answer that Fengyin wanted to hear from Yuanqi, because her moments when she was A-Yin is what developed her into the Fengyin that we got 1000 years later.
For me this is a really nice story and pairing. Those who just skip it because of negative reviews without giving a try will surely miss out on this drama IMO. I'm glad you got back into the drama and watch and understand and love it too. Those annoying characters definitely deserve their own punishment that's for sure!
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
You mean you didn't blame the ML?
But yeah, anyone who have watched episode 25 properly would know just how much Yuanqi wanted to protect A-Yin from taking any form of punishment that will endanger her life. He said it when that peacock king(I hate him to the end), when he said she's a threat to the heaven realm.. Yuanqi already said he will take her back to Qingchi Palace but they just won't let it go...They all pressured Yuanqi to give a fair judgment.... I felt so sorry and tired for Yuanqi in that scene. You can tell just how tired he was and he just wanted to take A-Yin back to Qingchi Palace, away from all the accusations...
It's really sad because Yuanqi really didn't want to punish her, but to come to that resolution, he came to that solution to shut them all up. His intentions was just to seal her immortal bones and then protect her from the public target of being the scapegoat.
I can never hate or blame Yuanqi in that scene because he showed me just how much he values her life because he was so against her taking the heavenly thunder which will result to her death and sad thing is A-Yin in that moment is willing to take that heavenly thunder to prove her innocence despite she know she will die from it. This hurts Yuanqi alot because it shows him she can just throw her life away like that
I felt for both A-Yin and Yuanqi in that scene really I do, but Yuanqi most of all because he have to live through that guilt where she inevitably died by his hands when his intention was only to save her from taking the heavenly thunder.
How can we blame him when he didn't know what happened to her before that. And yeah it was Yuanqi who saved A-Yu.
When A-Yin begged Yuanqi to not destroy Ningyun mountain, she was trying to protect her sister which is placed there to nurture her so she can be born one day. If Ningyun mountain is destroyed than that is like her sister won't have a chance to be born.
Yuanqi knew how much it means to her, to see A-Yu being born one day. He went through great lengths (and we saw it) to get her that land so of course he would not destroy A-Yin's hope there.
He already said that he was going to tell her all this gradually but then that happened
It's sad really. But while that scene hurts so much and I hate Hua Shu and Hua Mo, how that scene was written, anyone who watched it properly shouldn't hate Yuanqi (biasly) like that because it's not his fault.
Why do people ask these questions. You will get your answer if you watch it.It is more fun to NOT know the episode…
Okay if you want reassurance for not wasting your time, I can confidently tell people if they ask this question, no they will not waste their time in this drama. There will be character development and growth in them and they will go through it together, yes there will be misunderstanding and angst (as do all xianxia genres), but the ending pays off when that time comes and the writer did it in a way that makes sense so you will not regret watching it on your end
Just make sure you keep an open mind and see it from all side perspective (ML and FL) so you can understand them better.
Yuanqi part in the nether realm I understand, but at least he was slowly approaching her and closing the gap between them. I see he didn't ran and hug her right away because she's just a weak soul and he didn't want to scare her soul etc
The ending part in TLI, it would make sense for FY to run up and hug him since, she waited 1000 years for him.
Even Shang Gu in ALP waited 500 years she couldn't help but ran up to Baijue and they share one last hug. I wish TLI is the same since they deserve one final hug IMO.
If they cannot hug can they not walk up closer to each other and close the gap and not stand at a distance like that?
But nonetheless I'm happy he's back and it's a happy ending. I just wish we got a bit more at the end for them to make it more satisfying IMO.
do i have to watch ALP to understand and/or enjoy this? i dropped that at like ep 14 .
The Last Immortal is a standalone drama, BUT if you haven't watched Ancient Love Poetry, then you are surely missing out on it's prequel, since whether you like it or not, knowing what happened in the past, will give you a better understanding to the world building & characters and where this story takes place, since Post Time-Skip (1000 years later), Bai Jue(Yuan Qi's father) would have already returned to Shang Gu, in the God Realm. So the story is connected/tied back with each other.
However if you don't want to watch ALP first that is your choice. It wouldn't take away your enjoyment of this drama since like I said it can be watched as a standalone drama.
P.S. you should continue watching The Last Immortal because it will only get better in terms of character developments.
The world building is linked and if you understand the background to where this all started you will understand the characters better especially the ML
This is why I recommend watching ALP if you haven't because you will know what YQ (ML) parents have been through and how this have impacted his upbringing although I feel for Novel Yuanqi in Shangu Novel more since he have it more hard :(
I just realized Gu Jin sacrifice to seal Ming Qi all for him to roam free in the end anyways but that ok I quite…
What Yuanqi did was to protect the three realms because he have someone he loved in it.
But Mingqi is able to get that ending where he's freed in the end is because he earned it, and it's only fair since he really played a big part in reviving Yuanqi and that was his choice that allow him that ending
I have no complaints with it since it is all written in a way that makes sense.
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
You're welcome and I'm glad to be able to help give you some insights to make you understand the ML better although when you watch those moments you will understand why he did what he did you will see when that time comes.
P.S. Oh nice to know you love Back from the Brink too since that is among my favourites in 2023.
P.S.S. Anyways if you like to share more of your final thoughts when you finish watching TLI, I'm always interested haha. Since it's always nice to hear what others think of this drama (aside from those who just biasly hate it for no reason at all)
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
Yes, judging by the episode number you're up to, the angst is definitely coming and when that time comes I honestly really feel sorry for the ML(Yuanqi) you'll see.
But I also love the growth and character development as well.
And yeah, Hongyi and YanShuang is among the pairings I love in this drama you will love them too. They are a nice pairing.
The Main pairing will get their moments before the final arc and I won't spoil the details for you but they are a really touching pair in my eyes. Naturally it makes us love them more for it.
Their 4 friendship is so pure, and loveable. I love seeing the 4 of them together and how they care for each other. They really remind me similar to Bai Jue and Tianqi, Shang Gu and Yuemi in ALP.
Happy watching when you get to those episodes, and once again I'm glad you are enjoying the story and liking the ML better now since by this time I've also started liking him too and by the end (after the character development and growth), my like developed into love <3
Thanks! I am glad my review have enlightened you here! Do give this drama a go and see for yourself and watch…
Yes exactly. I am honestly glad that my review can help you understand the ML better because if you see the ML from his back story you will understand why he felt that way at the beginning.
ML Yuanqi (Gujin at the beginning), really did went through alot of character growth and we all came to love him, if not at the beginning, but by the end.
I hope you will also enjoy this drama and their character developments and journey by the end because it is a wonderful journey to go through with this drama.
Hongyi (The fox guy), I don't ship him with FL but I do love him and YanShuang (Eagle princess), you'll see :)
But I do love the friendship relationship between Yuanqi and Hongyi and A-Yin and Yan Shuang though, their interactions is nice to watch
P.S. watching at a site without reading those comments is definitely a good idea ^^ enjoy watching!
If you paid attention to that episode that happened you would know that Yuanqi have NO intention to kill her.
Did you blame A-Yin for wanting to take the heavenly thunder? Which she knows this will result to her death?! Did you not paid attention to how Yuanqi was so against A-Yin from taking the heavenly thunder because he know what will happen if she did... BUT no immortals cared as long as she is punished, even A-Yin was willingly take the punishment despite she knows she will die if she did... Yuanqi being strongly against her taking that punishment already shows how much he is willingly stand against everyone in that scene in her taking that punishment that will end her life, what does this showed us? Yuan Qi VALUES HER LIFE!
If you have paid attention you would know why Yuanqi resulted to that decision of punishment in the end and NO, in Yuanqi's mind, he NEVER wanted to kill her. This was already explained in that episode.
Also setting aside your bias hate towards the ML, if you watch the drama to the end(without biasness), you will know just how much he has sacrificed for her. But whether you watched it properly or not, this doesn't change the fact what it revealed to us in understanding what happened. You not having a heart to forgive doesn't mean others can't. Don't claim it to be "bad writing" when the writers explained his actions and why it happened that way just because you cannot see the light at the end of all this.
Everyone who have watched the same drama can interpret the scenes differently but leave out your bias hate towards the characters may make you be able to understand and enjoy the story better. No one say you have to love the story if you can't then that is your problem, not ours for being able to forgive , understand and Love the story.
In my opinion, this is the ML who is worthy of earning the FL love...AND a HAPPY ENDING. Being able to forgive depends on the situation as well, and NO Fengyin didn't forgive him right away due to all those misunderstandings but as the misunderstanding is cleared she forgives him because he deserves to be forgiven, if you can't forgive Yuanqi despite knowing all that he's done, then that is your problem, not Fengyin and dont blame Fengyin faults when she have a heart to forgive someone who is worthy to be love and forgiven(Yuanqi) and you don't.
Anyone in here who have watched the episodes properly would understand and not hate on YQ for what happened in that scene that you spoke of.
Preference is one thing but to start sprouting bias hate and mislead and ruin for those who have yet to watch that episode is another.
If you don't like these type of scenes or trope, let alone understand why it happened that way then you should stay away from Xianxia genre.
I was watching episode 35 again and I have a deeper insight to that "dream"....Hear me out , this is how I personally…
I honestly felt like what happened in that dream was REAL. Yes, it's a dream but everything that happened in that dream was controlled by their actions, they are conscious in their dream.

I love to get fans into this drama and it is always happy to know that I successfully got a fan into this one :)
If you take into consideration that Yuanqi was 200 when the Last Immortal took place at the beginning, and just through the little times he actually put his heart into cultivating, he has improved so much when he went to the heaven realm as "God of War" role(bear in mind that he haven't awaken to True god yet).
Even at the end, he played a main role in sealing Mingqi, which to Mingqi, Yuanqi was a threat to him
"ML is impulsive"
Every characters have made mistakes in stories and they are not exempted to only a specific character.
Those who watch the drama and understand his character and feelings will love him, but judging from your comment you don't so I can just say you really don't understand YQ character if you can say all that
You can definitely see growth in the ML and the characters from the beginning to the end and that's one thing I love about it because you see how much they've grown in the end.
Just make sure you keep an open mind and see it from all side perspective (ML and FL) so you can understand them better.
It is more fun to NOT know the episode number and "when" it happened to be able to enjoy the drama as it is.
But I will at least answer the last question. It's a happy ending that makes sense.
However if you don't want to watch ALP first that is your choice. It wouldn't take away your enjoyment of this drama since like I said it can be watched as a standalone drama.
P.S. you should continue watching The Last Immortal because it will only get better in terms of character developments.
This is why I recommend watching ALP if you haven't because you will know what YQ (ML) parents have been through and how this have impacted his upbringing although I feel for Novel Yuanqi in Shangu Novel more since he have it more hard :(
But Mingqi is able to get that ending where he's freed in the end is because he earned it, and it's only fair since he really played a big part in reviving Yuanqi and that was his choice that allow him that ending
I have no complaints with it since it is all written in a way that makes sense.
P.S. Oh nice to know you love Back from the Brink too since that is among my favourites in 2023.
P.S.S. Anyways if you like to share more of your final thoughts when you finish watching TLI, I'm always interested haha. Since it's always nice to hear what others think of this drama (aside from those who just biasly hate it for no reason at all)
But I also love the growth and character development as well.
I am already watching this again on my end.
