Lol, it's funny how they think Xu Kai is fat. To be honest, I actually love Xu Kai body figure in Ancient Love Poetry. It actually saddens me to see him being skinny now, maybe a bit too skinny (in the live-stream he had with Liu Xue Yi and Li Ze Feng, and in the live-stream between the two (Xu Kai and Liu Xue Yi), Liu Xue Yi even made a comment telling Xu Kai that he should eat more, he's too skinny and he expresses his concern for Xu Kai, which was nice to see. I do agree that he should eat more though(lol I said the same thing on Yunxi since he's another actor I love that is too skinny). For someone who loves and watched both Ten Miles Peach Blossom and Ancient Love Poetry, I will give my side of opinions.
I do personally love how the ending gives a more fulfilling happy ending, where I am satisfied with it, in Ten Miles Peach Blossom when compared to a 33 second 'close up hug' between Bai Jue and Shang Gu after all they've been through, to have it end with a short ending, it was very unsatisfying for me, I wanted more in ALP ending, like something similar to TMOPB, but was left with an unsatisfied feeling with that ALP ending T^T.
The punishment for Su Jin (in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom) is so fulfilling, I love every minute of it when she was punished, she lose her eyes, and how she loses everything in the end. That was done better (in a more satisfying way) when compared to Jing Zhao, since I personally reckon she deserves a more heavier punishment. I have no problems with Wu Huan's punishment, she got what she deserves. But Jing Zhao... I can only imagine scenarios to make me feel content that she suffered so much to see her mother like that...
In Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, at least we get a family of 3 spending time together but in ALP, we didn't get that, so that was one thing I wish we had, although I am forever thankful we got a father-son moment in episode 48 between Bai Jue and Yuan Qi.
Oh, and they have more kiss scenes in Ten Mile of Peach Blossom than compared to ALP, I wanted more in ALP (lol) T^T
The grieving part, between Bai Qian grieving for her loss for Ye Hua compared to Shang Gu on Bai Jue, this I will admit, I love what I saw for Bai Qian more. I was hoping Shang Gu will show me to that extent too in the drama, but was a bit disappointed that she didn't. Well I am not saying she didn't grief for her loss for Bai Jue, but I didn't get it to the extent that I would want to see for her. I feel Bai Jue show me she grief for her more than what she failed to show me (this is how I see it).
But what makes me love ALP better than Ten Miles of Peach Blossom? - The fact that it's not draggy to me, each episodes is fun and I already loved it in the first episode, whereas for Ten Miles Peach Blossom, it was a slow build up, and I was like wondering 'when is the ML (Ye Hua) is going to show himself physically in front of the FL (Bai Qian), but that did not happen until much much later, so it was draggy to me, and Bai Qian, before she loves Ye Hua, she loved the demon prince Li Jing, so I don't really like that. The whole 'first/only love' kind of theme, is more appealing to me, so this one I am going with Bai Jue and Shang Gu.
- Shang Gu / Hou Chi is not naive, and she will not let what other bitches (who is there to create misunderstanding) to cause her to misunderstand the man she loves i.e. Bai Jue/Qing Mu, so I love that. Saves all the heart-ache and drama of dragging on the misunderstanding and she won't listen to some bitch who is only there to make her lose faith in the man she loves... But she will only believe it if she sees with her own eyes, or him telling her this in person.
- Shang Gu is actually more bad ass to me, when she got stronger so I love that about her.
- I also did come to love Bai Jue sacrificial love for Shang Gu/Hou Chi, and he didn't do this in return for her to love him back, to him as long as she's safe, happy and can enjoy her life, then that's all that matters for him. He will go through great extents to have her hate him if it means that she can live on happily. I admire that kind of love on my end, because it's selfless. And I am honestly touched by his actions, even if it meant he's going to be misunderstood by the one woman he ever loved. And I felt like I can empathise with Bai Jue a bit more, since he's silently suffering on his end, which made me feel sorry for him, and loves him since it let's me to see / understand things from his perspective more than I need to.
I guess to me, both dramas have it's pros/cons, some I prefer it TMOPB better and some in ALP better (like said), but in the end, for me, I think if you talk about 'overall enjoyment' where I love/fangirl and have more scenes I love/enjoyed and will rewatch again, that will probably be in Ancient Love Poetry > Ten Miles Peach Blossom. Because l've said it in here previously, that I have a lot of scenes I love/enjoyed for ALP that I felt like listing them all and explain why I love it will take pages. Also I am thankful that in Ancient Love Poetry, I get to have my bromance in terms of need when the angst hits, because that's a healing to the heart. However in terms of both ML love for the FL in their respective story, they are both strong, and I love both of their love for their 'one and only'.
