Replying to the last two paragraphs since that stood out to me when I read it:
How that scene was meant to be portrayed ties into the novel from what I know, and it was to serve as an introduction to Chi Cheng's character for the viewers, that he's not some type of greenflag who will forgive those who deceived or betrayed him.
I think the author intended that scene for two purposes, 1) Showing how Chi Cheng doesn't like those who betray or deceive him and he will get back at them (without mercy) and how he felt about this was further emphasize in the later episodes and 2) Considering how he and Wu Suo Wei started in somewhat similar situation (but he has yet to know) since Wu Suo Wei only got close to Chi Cheng at first because of a misunderstanding and for "revenge" at first, we saw the growth between them in becoming stronger through these episodes, where I felt that even if Chi Cheng founds out the truth about Wu Suo Wei (when that time comes), we saw in that trailer, he was devastated and hurt in the process, yet all he did was just to "end their relationship"....
I believe even if Chi Cheng found out the truth, he will be hurt in the process because he didn't think Wu Suo Wei is this kind of person, just like he said to Wu Suo Wei that he(WSW) is good, and that he's pure, unlike "those people" who knows only to deceive or betray those they love, Chi Cheng feelings of love for Wu Suo Wei is not something that came as an instant thing, yes, he said he wanted to bed him earlier on(at the beginning), but it has developed up to this point that if Wu Suo Wei feel uncomfortable or is not ready, he won't force it on him. Not that he can't, it's that he won't because he cares for Wu Suo Wei and because he loves him. This is a big step for him considering what was revealed about his past.
So even if he finds out the truth, he won't do that to Wu Suo Wei like what he did to that person who deceived and betrayed him at that beginning scene, because this was a comparison to highlight to the viewers between the two scenes that Wu Suo Wei is different(to Chi Cheng). He will be hurt by Wu Suo Wei, yes, he will even consider ending things with him, because deception and betrayal is not something he can take lightly, and this is just who he is, but at the end of the day, this is the type of person the writer wants to portray him to be.
Those who continue to watch this drama is not someone who agree with what took place in that ganger*pe at the beginning, but we just understood the context what lead to that scene for it to happen because of what that person did to him. Not that we don't agree there is a better, healthier way to handling the situation, but what's done is done, why hold on such feeling and let it ruin the entire drama?
I can't speak for everyone in here but for me personally, despite I felt that gangr*pe scene was a bit too far, but because of that scene, I felt like it served a purpose in the story how Wu Suo Wei is different to Chi Cheng when the story develops and what I look forward to is the character developments individually and them as a pairing, and how they will move forward and become a healthier person at the end of all this.
No one is perfect. If people dont like that scene or cant get that scene out of their mind then that is fine, since that is their offputting part that puts them off but dont come in here to judge others by saying its "yuck" or you don't understand the high ratings of the drama because how we feel and perceive things varies from people to people. We may not like certain things in the story but we can still on other parts and we learn to not always hold onto the negative things that puts us off if there's other factors that is worth our time to focus and talk about.
Others who don't like the drama can move on and watch something else but don't come in here to ruin it for those who can since surely you don't want to be on the receiving end when it comes to your favourite drama.
Personally for me, I love this drama a lot because this is the first time I am watching an actual BL drama and everything, their boldness to go that far, the intimate scenes between two men just really surprises me in a positive way because we are finally getting something for BL in an actual drama with decent duration and episodes.
I felt like Chi Cheng, although doesn't outright say they're dating or they are officially together as a couple, but with the way he treats Wu Suo Wei, it is obvious that he already sees him as his boyfriend, someone he deeply loved and wants to be with.
Just like what Wu Suo Wei said, if they slept together physically, then this will only be a physical thing and Chi Cheng won't have Wu Suo Wei's heart.
I believe what Chi Cheng wanted was Wu Suo Wei's sincere love(because he loves him) and considering what was revealed in episode 6, it really revealed some things and why Chi Cheng never actually put his heart into dating or loving anyone because he knows he will get hurt again, talk about the plot leading up to the foreshadow there. Its going to be heartbreaking for him when he finds out the truth, but it is also too late for Wu Suo Wei to step out of this relationship since it is obvious he now loves Chi Cheng too.
And honestly, how can anyone not see that Chi Cheng is actually 'in love' with Wu Suo Wei, his actions and how he misses him already showed it, this is a behavior of a couple. He said he doesn't date, but his actions speaks otherwise because he would if this comes to Wu Suo Wei. He misses him when they're apart and he's happy when Wu Suo Wei calls him. That is clearly someone who is head over hills in love and I am loving him even more for this. He really is taking a big step forward considering we now know what happened in his past. I'm going to feel sorry for him when he finds out but I am looking forward to their developments to become stronger as a couple.
I wish I can watch the next episode instead of waiting!! 🥺
