By your side by the sea

Although Jin is scared that Haruki will leave him - his parents were absent, with his mother coming and going suddenly - he won't take the step of lettings their friends know about their relationship. Yet, risk averse as he is, he passionately kissed Haruki near his own workplace. A bystander mentality of being prepared to be 'caught' but not decide? Maybe if Shiba hadn't been so perplexed? angry? at Haruki's attempt to open up a conversation they may have been able to say something. Odd to think their friends have NO idea.Feel some of these BLs are part of a quiet campaign to change the law. The mental strain of not being able to talk about a loved one.Again, we had symbolic blues, sea and fish.

I like you - saying the unsent

After a damp squib of a reunion last episode, our leads get to talk. This does have to wait for Haruki to do the rescuing and watering. Much harks back to earlier scenes in the story with the protagonist changed. For all the tears and drink Jin has been practising what he wants to say. It's the voice over we've heard throughout. Having worn school.uniforn to look younger, it's weird seeing Minase in a work suit. ~~~~~~~~Bath scene so sweet! ~~~~~~~~~``The parting needed to happen. __~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I hope Jin's dad gets to know about Haruki's directing and Jim's writing!

Smoking, drinking, sleeping, crying

I won't contact you isn't the same as I can't. Hm. Did they actually change numbers? I asked that before a much later scene and still wonder. Argh. You're going to see your ex who had an abusive alcoholic dad and you get drunk? Off-putting is an understatement. Guess Jin's not used to drink. Missing the screening, too - insulting to his work. Shiba seems to have loosened up. Nemoto is much the same. Jin's changed but doesn't seem to be for the better. Haruki is calmer, quietly confident and, unlike Jin, sharing his creative work with others, albeit a bit reluctantly. Haruki has become strong without Jin. Jin has been alone so long that alone at university is not an opportunity for maturing. He needs to love and be loved to develop emotionally. The lighting from day to night, shadow to clarity is well done. Odd episode in a way - trying to fill in a 5 year gap.

Thanks for being a friend - the power of film

'If I go to your house it will end up a big deal'..Avoiding intimacy, confessions, or something that would make one of them change their mind on next steps?Good university, good job - does THAT equal a good adult? Maybe no chaos, no trouble, but maybe no speaking the truth - to the heart or head. Being a bystander, allowing g bad things to happen and saying nothing. Can tell. Neither of them wants to be apart. But it looks like something they have to do as it'll make life better for them both. Neither articulates what they really mean to one another. As we discover later by letter. Looks as if Yin and his friends are more creative than imagined. Also Haruki is recognised as handsome by his circle, too. The DVD from early on is significant, as are screenings.

Growing up (too) fast - What matters

'I'm telling the truth' Minase says. ',Focus on what's important' the teacher tells him. Sums up a lot about how justice is served. Jin COULD say he was walking by the shop, saw Majima and not Haruki running off. His friends knew he was headed there. Then again, he's probably a bit cross with his lover - if he'd said yes to moving in, if he',d come round for dinner earlier, the fight with Majima wouldn't have happened. Poor Haruki no longer wants to be hit,but doesn't want to hit back. Best reason to go back to school for him? Looking at Minase of course! Learning's pretty secondary. He's been labelled. It's a shame there's no art teacher fighting his corner. 'Art' isn,T thought well off, yet the boys often go to the bookstore or watch films. Of course, survivor is so much better than victim. Haruki is not the sum of all the bad that's happened to him . He needs to recognise this, too. There's a beautiful muted colour palette, red bridge aside. A brief sparkle comes from Jim's mother but it's not welcome. It's unexpected and unreliable. The hug on the bridge is lit quite differently from each young man's point of view. Cliffhanger? Well, partial school setting - test taking and results!

The ways, the waves

Fantastic episode! The pair go to see Haruki's mum. She comments on her oldest child getting beat up and how his dad was the same, but strong. Minase is minded to say something but Haruki's there and he doesn't. He envies Haruki seeming close to his mother. But if they were that close, would he not confide? Does she really have no idea what's going on? The relationship intensifies sexually. The couple have a symbolic moment getting wet (baptism?) in the sea.The separation from holding hands when they return is painful. Yet Minase had suggested Haruki move in, Haruki declines - loyalty to his dad, fear he'll hit Minase. Majima is cross that Haruki isn,'t interested in meeting a girl ( having laughed at his friend's virginity) or causing trouble. Haruki's loyalty and inability to stand by goes too far. Why go round to chide the gang for shoplifting? Why take the blame for anything Majima does? Majima's words about the domestic violence show he knows and has no compassion. Jin is a 'witness' because Haruki was on a call to him at the time, and Jin was at the store. Will he dare to speak up? Will anyone want to listen or believe him? Haruki WAS getting stronger with Jin - he felt he could turn to study, escape his father. For Jin this turn of events is like an insult but also telling him to stay away from Haruki.

Great to see and hear Haruki's viewpoint.…

Great to see and hear Haruki's viewpoint. Felt that teacher had provoked him in some way. His happiness at being around Jin makes him more attractive. I worry he's so much more vulnerable in this relationship. You vaguely wonder what they'd be like under different circumstances. Haruki's an art house kid really, Jin is the bystander of a quiet life. Jin's dad. Hm. Ironic to hear him talk of loving family. It's not a big town. There's a tenseness - waiting for the relationship to develop, and for others to find out, and for something awful to happen.... Tenderness and awkwardness well captured.

Caring is sharing

We got two lots of tending to the injured or ill here. Jin's grades are slipping - if being distracted by the thought someone does that, may as well add to the distraction with some activity, eh?Seriously, though - why assume no-one's listening?!Haruki is probably the one influenced by Majima. Jin is a positive influence on him. Jin is avoiding Haruki due to exams and reputation, as much as that he's male. Haruki is actually more innocent than he appears, a surprise to his 'crowd' and Jin, too. Let's face it, if more people saw and knew about the bruises things would be different. Jin is used to being alone. Haruki needs to escape. Frankly they both just FANCY one another. Unfortunately I watched this episode with not very good subtitles or event absent (text messages and notes) and only have VERY limited Japanese ( those bits were subbed fine). Pronouns were mixed up . So there are subtleties I'll have missed.

All's well ...

It didn't feel THAT rushed but there're some strange turns of events. Why bother to have Hyung Ki develop a conscience about the sequel, especially if he closes the restaurant? That doesn't give Ji Woo a job in a sequel. Unless SEO Yoon persuades him to open one, and we get a weird love triangle situation? Pil Hyu is amusing, and by this point more interested in dating than the industry. That he supports SEO Yoon to sign up for a relatively low budget ( probably award worthy though) project shows his integrity. Regarding relationships, he doesn't judge, he just doesn't want anyone hurt. The reporters behave strangely, too. They seem more interested in being friends than using scoops when they have them. Ji Woo and SEO Yoon go from no dating ( well, maybe they have been after all) to sharing a bed. It's sweet. Ji Woo finally relaxes.

Let's be honest, how much integrity does…

Let's be honest, how much integrity does someone about to lose a lot have? Especially if getting money out of someone you don't know can sort it? Still, there's a hint that Hyung Ki is also motivated by jealousy of Ji Woo's closeness to Seo Yoon. Maybe he's spotted closeted, not closed even if Ji Woo has no real idea. Apart from when he wouldn't say what happened at the start,n, Seo Joon is constantly upfront. Maybe he San only have nuance in a script. The agency actors are great with little looks here and there. Both SEO Joon and Ji Woo try to sort things out so that Hyung Ki'satisfied and the other is protected. Ji Woo is pained at how his chef friend turns out to be a blackmailer, but is scared to be with SEO Joon. Half expected one of those running to catch you moments. Instead we get a crumpled teary face of regret...

I want to kiss you when I'm not drunk

No surprise, SEO Joon is exonerated, but that In Woo is such a horrid person, is a bit. Ambition can do odd things to people. Seo Joon was so keen for it not to get like that. Yet when he says 'I don't like you anymore' it feels more an inevitably than hurt, let alone disappointment. Nice to see a journalist being investigative . Ji Woo 's words are very hurtful. But a sense of danger may be something that draws him to the actor. A desire to protect? Clearly more to him than we know - he's got financial trouble, but so has that restaurant. That rock thrower must be lurking and tailing and photo taking. Not as much cooking as the previous episode :) Seo Joon and Ji Woo - talented, good at what they do but essentially not ambitious? Both like the idea of imparting knowledge to others. No further forward on Ji Woo telling SEO Woon how he feels. Great work from the side kicks from the agency again. Wish this had longer episodes fleshing more out.

What happened yesterday? Confession time!

Post picnic processing. Pil Yun is worried. Is it because of more scandal? Ji Woo may kick up a fuss or it's not a marketable trait for an actor? Ho Min may still be drunk. Also jealous perhaps. Ji Woo isn't letting on how he feels other than not wanting to dance to someone else's tune. After all, SEO Joon won't be hanging out as a kitchen assistant and housemate forever, right? But he does bring home the ingredients to make the dish that SEO Joon wants, even if it makes him cry. Meanwhile, SEO Joon's friends management are prepared to dump SEO in it to protect their star. It's possible his friend isn't able to influence that line but here's hoping the truth will out.Talking of which .. Confession time. Meaning it when you say it doesn't make it real. Refreshingly disarming though

Just answer the question - or don't, hiding not working

How long do you need to have known someone to like them?. Or get close? It's the quality of the relationship, not the time...Seo Joon continues to want to get closer, and hang out with Ji Woo. Although Ji Woo seems grumpy, he shows concern for his housemate, joins in and definitely looks better when he smiles :)SEO joon's almost certainly covering up what his 'friend' did. Where's he in all of this? Lying low, too. We learn that the pair may have more in common than they realise - alone early on in life Ji Woo put up walks, SEO Joon became friendly, but as his agent reveals he doesn't actually have a big circle of friends. I don't feel the mystery is there as a we want to know, more of an exercise in assumptions about character. Seo Joon's sometimes childish, but he's likeable so I, and I reckon most of the audience aren't worrying he behaved badly .Ho Min IS cute. But doesn't look like a love triangle is on the cards, but handy to get Jin Woo to voice certain thoughts.

Stars come in various forms

Someone's clearly not seen shows set in catering. Seo Joon continues to be open and friendly - this won't end well somewhere. Jin Woon wants to maintain distance but is then clearly offended at the suggestion getting along ISN'T becoming friends. The idea that the actor can work at the restaurant undetected is ridiculous, but the episodes are so shirt why dwell on sense? Ha, after commenting on the closed-ness of 3 interiors, we got a night location with space. This gave a sense of freedom and openness. Not clear if Hyung Gi is jealous of Jin Woo knowing the celebrity, or jealous the celebrity's relationship to Jin Woo. He is unlikely to have qualms about selling him out - which hasn't occurred to the naive actor. At least we didn't get a random faint or accident in the kitchen. Sid episode which feels like a build up to a lot more that nsy happen - the scandal, the press, and a love story.

Trust issues

Seo Yoon has a wild mixture of emotions. Son Woo Huron does a good job - he has to be vulnerable, vain, clingy, curious and turn on the charm. Ji Woo just wants to be left alone, but he's the one that tries to care for the actor - protecting him from the press, and just seeing him as a regular guy. Seo Yoon needs to learn about personal space and privacy. We really only have 3 sets - the house, the restaurant, the agents office. All feel transient. The banter between the leads is good, but we still know v little about the chef.
