The last thing would be a budget issue as It's one of the few high budget major cdrama production in recent years. budget is said to be 350 million yuan, most S+ dramas of recent times barely have a 300 mm Budget. Lengthy war scenes could be unappealing to some viewers, maybe that's why?

Wikipedia & some Chinese sources i read says there's no evidence that Hu Jinsi had any part in killing cheng zhaoyue,but here it claims some historians said otherwise, Hu jinsi had the most credit in killing him.interesting

i think the poem he was reciting in fire is one of Huang chao's Poetry (the name of the rebel leader mentioned in ep 21, he wrote few poems) The title of the poem is "Inscription On Chrysanthemums" (題菊花)...he was reciting the famous lines of the poem which i think was used in another drama previously, i don't remember which drama Though

I feel like they intentionally made hongzuo's age slightly older than his actual age in history. Qian hongzuo was 13 when his father died and he became Emperor, but obviously he didn't look like 13 at that point, unless It's an unintentional miscast, drama team purposely choose to make his age 2/3 years older than his actual age in history,to make it more appropriate for audience consumption. Although it was stated in ep 1 that he's a teenager, i think he's at least six-'teen' (16) or seven-'teen' (17) when he first became king lol

hmm i get you but if i think about the Event of real history that they covered in this arc, it was indeed an initial unwise/dumb decision of hongzuo to trust cheng zhaoyue so much to make him strong by his own hands, making the already powerful hu jinsi even stronger in the process.when hongzuo came to his senses,it was already late to deal with hu jinsi's power so he could only eliminate cheng before dying. Drama portrayed Qian hongzuo more wiser than he actually was in history.


Shuiqiu zhaoquan indeed caused his own downfall in history too..it's better not to plan anything at all than delaying an already proposed high-risk plan .you could think He chengxun betrayed so he was doomed, but delaying the plan/stopping hongzong from eliminating hu jinsi was already a naive decision of him, when a similar thing happened in hongchu's reign,he immediately chose to put He chengxun to execution instead (when he chengxun betrayed Hu jinsi's side by secretly telling hu's plan about killing hongzong to hongchu).. also, previously,when hongzuo decided to kill cheng zhaoyue by raising troops at night, shuiqiu zhaoquan adviced him not to do immediately, glad that nothing worse happened from that. Drama 'maybe' portrayed him a lot witty and intelligent than he actually was!

It's obvious to add dramatic elements fictionally, still the key important events happened in history are happening here,changing the manner how they happened and adding more to it. Thus It's giving some historical facts & characters broader perspective too which i liked.the basic framework of events are still intact

it was said in ep 21 that hongzuo's eldest child is only 5 years old so if king dies now, heir apparent to the throne is 7th prince hongzong.

in real history, hongzuo died when he was aged only 19, leaving a 4 years old child

Coup & mutiny is not actually utter absurdity, that was the most definite fact for that era and the most challenging fact for a ruler like hongzuo in chaotic times.That was a period of constant regime change from Central plains to smaller wuyue state. it was repeatedly mentioned in previous episodes that who have the stronger military power & the heart of the soldiers sits on the throne, Military support is the crux & the bottom line.

About the drama's latest arc, Hu Jinsi's true intention was NOT rebellion, but he is a figure THAT powerful if he doesn't get what he wants, he would dare to go extreme to achieve them, he is no fool but a senior court Official & minister who served 3 kings already & a Military Commander of founding ruler's era ,he was already powerful enough at previous Emperor's time to influence Qian yuanguan's dying decree for heir of the throne. As a veteran official of previous emperors, he had the support of other ministers of court & the Regional milliary commanders as well...6th prince/ hongzuo after becoming king wanted to seize back hu jinsi's immense power & marginalized him Which caused hu jinsi to collude with cheng zhaoyue (i'm describing drama plot btw, not history) ,however what he truly wanted to achieve was not rebellion but acknowledgement. he wanted to use cheng zhaoyue's rebellion as a gambling matter to make hongzuo understand, ''look,if something big happens,you can't do this without this old man"..he used it as a leverage to Return to the core of power & reclaim the Authority & respect he thought he (& Hu family) deserved.He never intended for the throne nor did he wanted to give away wuyue state to southern Tang.

however, if hongzuo and hongzong didn’t decide to trust him till the end ,hu jinsi was treacherous enough to cause a revolt or CHANGE the Emperor & make a new ruler who'll no longer depose a threat to him (which happened in real history a year later when hongzong tried to eliminate him,Hu jinsi Staged a coup & made hongchu the next emperor,it will happen in next episodes of the drama)

shuiqiu zhaoquan was intelligent enough to understand hu jinsi's true intention & that's why he adviced hongzuo that, all hujinsi did was merely self preservation & if we give him the power he wants,he'll stay loyal to wuyue & the Emperor, they just reached an agreement that'll benefit both sides. Giving hu jinsi what he wants, keeping the soldiers on grips by giving them rewards, removing any threats for mutiny that might threaten the throne, and if any future events like this happens, military will be encouraged to step forward just like they did this time.It's a win win diplomatic decision. not at all dumb.

This actually happened in hongzong's reign in real history, when he wanted to eliminate hu jinsi, it was Shuiqiu zhaoquan who stopped him. But when Hu Jinsi came to know about their intention, He didn't delay further to cause a regime Change expelling hongzong, & he didn’t spare shuiqiu zhaoquan, killing him.

Drama made that similar incident but in hongzuo's reigning time,it gave a perspective of original intention of Hu jinsi's that i really find as a very brilliant scriptwriting, it's also foreshadowing future events.
