Another Sungkyungkwan Scandal... currently watching and started to lose interest around Ep.15. Seriously comparing what I’ve seen so far vs Chang’an Youth (which is from WeTV), here’s my feedback:
Visual impact: In a Class of Her Own (IACOHO iQiyi) Wins hands down because main cast here are generally more good looking (Ju Jing Yi, Song Wei Long, Richards Wang), even cinematography is better here focusing more on close ups probably due to a lot of studio shoots
Romance/chemistry: Tie In Chang’an Youth the ML and FL had better romantic interactions but chemistry is soso. Here in IACOHO ML and FL had little romantic interactions but they had great potential for chemistry. So yes don’t expect The Eternal Love level of romance.
Plot/pacing and character development: Chang’an Youth (WeTV) Was hoping IACOHO would have a better plot to go with the great visuals but saddly Chang’an Youth had better pacing and character development. The story had a proper direction on how things progress from pt A to pt Z and the characters of Chang’an Youth had their own goals in the story. IACOHO was too focused on the indiv character arc that they forgot to create a general arc that would get us invested on why we should stick with the show until they graduate. Maybe they just wanted to milk the visuals of the actors that’s wh they concentrated on indiv arcs? There were even episodes where you only see ML like 20% of the time.
How could you mention Ping Ting and Susa? The queens! Lol
They are the ultimate paragons of FL. And to expect all FL to be like them is sacrilegeous. Lol. Even Zhao Lusi’s characters haven’t reached their level. I also forgot Minglan. Though she’s not kungfu material but her brain is amazing. Less heartache with 0 expectations. XD
This drama was such a breeze to watch thru. Fiction Guo fits the ML really well and I think he had a blast being a narcissistic, somewhat naive sect leader. I was also pleased to see Li Nuo get a main Role as Qian Yu because I kept remembering her as Qing Xue in Your Highness. I even thought they had the same prod team because Ding Ding and the other supporting casts were also in Your Highness. I love that it was short (24eps) and didn’t have an overly complicated story. Li Nuo and Fiction Guo had ok chemistry but seeing the BTS I can tell they’re just acting and no real personal chemistry between them unlike the ZhaoJie ship.
unpopular opinion: this show is everything ten miles of peach blossoms shouldve been.this show is literally the…
I’m one of the few people that will agree with you. Lol. But my reason would probably be different from you. It’s because Yangmi’s Ice Princess Yang Mi Bai Qian left a poor taste in my mouth. I could only remember her looking like she was allergic to Mark Chao’s Ye Hua. Lol. And of course the draggy scenes at the start of TMOPB with Mo Yuan. Su Yu writers knew how to pace their story properly and with just 24 episodes which is perfect.
I might be one of the few viewers who liked this movie better than the drama. Predominantly because of Crystal Liu’s more relatable Bai Qian compared to YangMi’s Ice queen Bai Qian. Mark Chao as Ye Hua was ok, Yang Yang as Ye Hua was also ok. But the chemistry and interaction between the two Pairs just hit differently for me. I watched the drama first before the movie.
Personally I liked Yang Yang’s and Crystal’s chemistry more because they fit the overall dynamic of Ye Hua and Bai Qian’s relationship where she’s the more senior goddess, he’s the younger but competent immortal and Crystal and Yang yang’s banter just had enough Dongsaeng Noona chemistry. Also Crystal was able to balance being the haughty senior goddess with the heartbroken-wants-to-get-wasted to begrudgingly sweet fiancé and mom character.
Whereas Yangmi’s and Mark Chao’s Bai Qian and Ye Hua all I can remember is Yangmi looking like she’s allergic to Mark and would rather be in a whole other drama. Lol. There was also a lot of those macho kabedon grabby kiss scenes which didn’t sit well with my notion of Noona-Dongsaeng relationship between Ye Hua and Bai Qian. And Yang Yang also had a better/sweeter way of coaxing Bai Qian from her snit.
But of course the script could have been written in a more fluid way. But it’s worth the watch.
We all agree the drama version is waaayyyy better than the movie. However, the movie is not tooo terrible. I did…
OMG I finally found someone who actually also like Crystal Liu’s Bai Qian than YangMi’s version. Crystal Liu just has a warmer feel for me than YangMi. I was irritated with YangMi’s Bai Qian for the most part of the drama.
Haters gonna try and lower the rating for this one coz they cant accept that this one has a higher rating than…
Don’t engage them. Lol. Just don’t like their comments and if the show is indeed good then the good comments will drown out the sour grapes. Lol. And maybe they do have different taste for their dramas? Don’t get stressed over the nega comments, I believe IONTBO is good enough on its own to get more positive reviews.
Haven’t watched it yet because I plan to binge watch it. But I’m sure I’ll love it for KMY.
Unless I'm somehow mistaken (correct me if I am wrong because I hope I am) then this drama doesn't deserve the…
Chengcheng didn’t cheat because he fell in love with the past Tan’er who hasn’t had her memories yet. So technically chengcheng’s kid doesn’t exist? Or if he does, he is in the future. In the later eps it was explained that everyone has 1 consciousness, separated by time and dimension but essentially the same. Similar to the original history of chengcheng and taner coming from the magical land. They just haven’t absorbed their past memories. T2 also acquired T1 memory and she only jumped body because the T3 vessel is empty unlike C2 who is totally alive so he had to combine with C1.
Did they date after filming season 1&2 because the romance is way too much and the chemistry between them is on…
Sadly no real life romance for xing zhao lin and liang jie. T.T. But at least they’re professional enough to have great chemistry without feeling awkward.
Watch it, no cliffhangers. Every season ends nicely.
You can always rewatch s1 & s2 again. Personally watched s1 2x then I’m at the 2nd rewatch of s2 and I just finished you are my destiny. That’s how much i love the xing zhao lin and liang jie ship.
Reminds me of k actor gong yoo with his height and deep set eyes and also hot psyche. Lol. Visually perfect with kabby hui but have room for improvement acting wise.
NAIVE FEMALE LEAD + MISUNDERSTANDING + ROMANCE - learn to read the tags/genre for the drama so you won’t waste your time and be unnecessarily irritated when your expectations are not met. Seriously, I see a lot of negative comments here mostly about the fl’s character expecting her to be some genius strategist, good at kungfu, boyish, etc when it’s already indicated in the tag that she’s naive. Also even just in the synopsis out of all the possible adjectives to use, they chose BRAVE & KIND which Jinyan generally is. So give FL some slack because if she were anything like bai ping ting or susu they would have used brilliant strategist, powerful goddess, etc description instead.
That’s like expecting the character of Ironman to be some posh gentleman British dude when his bio clearly states he’s a Brass, sarcastic, American. Or like the food description saying it’s sour and spicy but you give it a very poor rating because it’s too spicy and not too sweet for you? Lol.
For those looking for romance and good chemistry do give this drama a chance. Of course this drama is far from perfect specially plot-wise and how the story was resolved, but if you want fluff, comedy, and romance you got it.
PS. If you’re curious about the actual novel reference read it here https://www.sto.cx/book-9554-1.html . Use Google translate to get serviceable translation. But after reading the first few chapters I can say it really is the writer and prod teams fault why Fl and ml and the story turned out like this. The novel has a more serious tone and fl is more reserved but she’s definitely not too fiesty. One thing for sure she doesn’t have romantic feelings for 2nd ml.
Edit 1. When I read the ending of the web novel I realized I liked this fluffier version. The web novel is more makjang in reality similar to the yanxi palace story. Wew. Good thing they didn’t go for the mature version.
Honestly, the FL is not as bad...i dunno why so many people hated her, trust me..i've seen worst. Overall ,the…
Agree. This type of fl is not unique so I guess we should get used to it by now. Hahaha. They should create a special tag for “Naive/stupid fl”, so those who are allergic to these kinds of lead don’t waste their time. Personally I’m ok with all types of Fl even the all too perfect “genius strategist/knows kung fu fl” tag.
Thoughts on the ending everyone? I was surprised, but also in a way it made sense. Wasn't what I expected or thought…
I liked the first eps where they gave us romantic scenes one after the other. The ending was a bit rushed for me but at least it’s not as vague as the Tang Dynasty Tour or legend of yunxi. Hahaha.
I think they can do 2nd season but get better writer and director. But knowing tencent and wetv this is highly unlikely. They only do s2/s3 for low budget surprise hits like the eternal love. Even the LBTI with Hongyi and Lusi which was successful and better script and chestill don’t have 2nd season. :(
Again, blame it all to wen suyu, not wen sujin.... Because all trouble its begin with suyu, that selfish bitch,…
@arni gamexeon agree. At 14y.o. i think sujin is the right amount of naive and she’s just too trusting and kind. And of course we can’t always have an fl that’s a genius strategist and knows kungfu. XD
Thats what im saying like how you gonna have all this power and not investigate like i know u can
Yes blame it on the script writer. XD The leads and premise had potential but the writer butchered the pacing of the story and threw in some very makjang stuff which makes you want to smash the screen. Just watch it at 1.25x and skeep some scenes and you can finish it in half a day.
