As much as this drama is iconic, I hated it so much. Hope the ML in this remake will be nicer to the FL & not…
A super-nice ML is not convincing for a slow-burn romance. Like why the heck would the FL take 120 chapters to finally realize she has fallen for him? If he's affectionate and not a jerk, why would she feel the ML's cousin was perhaps a better choice and constantly lament the fact that the cousin wasn't the crown prince? As problematic as characters like Shin (Goong), Doumyouji (Hana Yori Dango) are.... make them too nice and the story falls apart (look at MG 2018... you couldn't convince me why Shancai didn't fall for Dao MingSi within the first 15 episodes)
As much as relationships can get toxic Shin Chae Kyung and Lee Shin had it all BUT, this was just done so well,…
I see you're a manhwa-reader/ fan as well?! Agreed on the teenagers bit. Adolescence-fueled rage and toxicity happens to the best of kids. Teens make dumb decisions and act out rashly without thinking of consequences. The story worked, *because* they were kids at the end of the day shouldering responsibilities of adults, and when they snapped, all hell broke loose. Angsty and problematic, but convincing. Unlike 30 year old 'forever singles' (unreal) who behave like airheads :P And yes, TaeHwang Daebi-mama was a real gangsta! ^^ She was the *only* one who understood Chae-Kyung was a victim of the palace, and she supported to set her free, to do all that she herself could only dream of! <3 She reminds me of my favorite Halmeoni from start-up! T_T
Likelihood of public-forgiveness is pretty high (lots have already forgiven him, lol). Plus his 2-year MS disappearance will calm some of the rage. I don't think public-morals or even the justice-system can kill his career. And that is how SK-ent do. \m/
>>Trigger Alert<< Cancel-culture is temporary. All will be forgotten once a juicier piece of scandal drops, because humans, esp in the age of super-fast tech & media have developed a goldfish-memory. The 2-year MS for Jisoo comes as a blessing to him, as he'll be out of the public-eye allowing them to 'forget' his deeds. Plus, he had to enlist *someday*...so might as well do it now. This sets the stage quite nicely for his comeback eventually after 2 years. Off-tangent.... but do you think Jisoo's actions and crimes (if proven in court) will cause him to be cancelled permanently? The severe-est of punishments with his celebrity-status would be a juvie/ correctional/ educational facility (read up on Miryang as a side-by-side comparison).... But can the public and their 'high morals' cancel a celebrity of his stature? Curious to know if you think the public-rage will die down eventually or not. Objective discussions only.....
This remake BETTER be faithful to the manhwa. In ways, Goong (the comic) was a shoujo-classic among readers. There is also *very* interesting social commentary on gender and feminism. Our heroine's character growth is something which dramas *wish* they had for their FL's. She is the kind of woman who makes little girls believe they can chase their dream career yet have a fulfilling love life, if your partner is understanding and respecting enough of you as a person. I would LOVE a modern take on the manhwa. The fusion-hanboks in the comic were *ah-mazing* and hope they get a decent wardrobe-designer to recreate the looks. In 2021, we *finally* have airpods (galaxy buds, lol) so it would be cool to have the wedding procession scene where Shin stuffs a blue-tooth earpiece into Chae-Kyung's ear, to calm her nerves down! ^^ I think it's super-cool if they decide to have the Queen have a baby in her 40's (a plot point they removed in the drama, ugh why?)... plus there were some OG-characters in the palace that were SO classic, that never made into the drama (the sang-gun and sang-sun romance, kkkk)... While the manhwa can be considered as a modern-fairytale, the ending was anything but (and hence dissatisfied fans who expected a grand re-wedding lol).... I REALLY HOPE they stick to the ending (the threshold-scene was so poignant.... CLOY recreated that on the DMZ when Captain Ri takes a step over for Seri into South Korea) T_T And I'd be pumped to see the epilogue actually play out.... Chae-Kyung with a toddler in tow, implying they got together again, had a child, while she continued to fulfill her duties as a royal-family member post her studies (aka not become a Meghan Markle and run for the hills).... they also did everything in the correct order like she wanted (fall in love, date, get married, share a household together, have a child... etc); and that the royal duties ceased to create a wall between them both, because Shin abdicated in favor of his brother! <3 <3
Anybody familiar with SK's laws of dealing with crimes committed by minors against other minors (sexual crimes, school violence etc).... but the crime being exposed/ proven only after the perpetrator and victim are both into adulthood? I have heard of juvies in some countries, but this case (if proven correct in court) isn't a regular juvie-case anyway.... Thank you to whoever replies with info! :)
Amen. I'm on the 'not interested' team too. Something that's a 'potential drop' would never make it to my PTW-list…
Hahaha, I love how we non-conventionally use MDL functions... :P (problems of a drama-watcher)... And I know what you mean regarding actors/ writers that will disappoint. It's a mental blacklist of sorts, and we don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. :)
Haha... well glad to know that we are not alone in Dark Side, yes first impression matters and also decides if…
Bwahaha. Same boat. Unless somebody comes and actively reassures me things will get better, I drop and move on. I don't trust my own opinions of 'things might get better.' Some absolute classics have ended in the trash can for me, to the point I'm scarred and I don't want to touch a certain drama with a 10-foot pole. xD
The real pain is getting to a show's 80% mark with solid-brilliant writing, only for censorship, actor and production-clout to come in and alter the finale stretch, or the writer having to ditch the project for some-reason midway. After that, it's just hate-watching, because you might as well soldier-through and finish the travesty. T_T Bamboozling, at its best.

You know what, two of my top 3 rated shows, I picked up based on personal recommendations, and I have dropped them 10 and 20 minutes into first watching them ('what is this?' 'why am i watching this?' 'oh god, do I have to sit through this?')... If I'd have dropped CLOY in the first ep itself, and TMOPB in the first 12 ep (I kept thinking to myself it's self-torture for *each* of those 12 eps).... I'd have missed out on these true gems (that's my opinion of them once I finished watching) :P :P So, having some friendly reassurances that 'it'll get better soon' and at what 'point' is definitely helpful!! xD xD xD In a way, professional reviews can be misleading too. (just a friendly warning, hehe! Everyone needs a kindred spirit who tests the waters before you... and I hope you find one too) <3
I'm super-hyped to find more members of the 'dark side'.... we love dramas, but we can also be super-critical and condescending at times xD xD Like they say 'too much to watch, too little time'... and 'ain't no-one got time fo' sh*t' :D
as far as I know (with 0 research) I think I'm the biggest dropper xD so you're not alone~I personally I have…
Amen. I'm on the 'not interested' team too. Something that's a 'potential drop' would never make it to my PTW-list (and i have a list that's practically exploding from years of not watching).... I'm a very prejudiced drama-watcher. But I occasionally give into the hype, and left bitterly disappointed lmao! :P My absolute (recent) must-watch lands up on my 'On-hold' list... :D
