I feel you, honestly, I would also like BL's to stop being a separate genre and be classified as TV series/dramas like any other, but until they drop the specific tropes and predictable cliche plots that sometimes make no sense, I don't see it happening. I do think DFF and The Sign are a big step away from being just a 'BL'. So I think it's moving in the right direction from 2023-2024.
But it's not only BL's that have a 'label', it sucks to say, but BL's right now are similar to how 'soap operas' are classified differently, and how shows like Law and Order and NCIS will never be taken as seriously as series that technically fall in the same/similar category, like Dexter(♡) and Criminal Minds, you know? I hope it changes though.
And just in case it was mistaken, by normal, I don't mean 'het' shows. I mean the 'label' and status of BL's not ranking like other LGBTQ+ or het romance series.
Imo this is how a show should be. BL's are centered around the couple thing, but a normal show which has couples…
I didn't say romance plots though, I said normal shows. Shows with a bigger plot may still have couples but will not be of the romance genre at all, while still secondarily featuring a couple. BL's are generally based around couples and romance first and foremost. This is 'marked' as a BL when you search, but I feel it leans more into being a normal show. That was my point.
Episode 5 is literally the 2nd best (after ep 1), if not the best DFF episode so far, it gives more lore to the…
Imo this is how a show should be. BL's are centered around the couple thing, but a normal show which has couples would usually have the 'romance/sexual relationships' be secondary to the story or plot driven, and that's what I'm seeing in DFF and I'm here for it. I want to know what the hell happened and see how it plays out. If none of them make out again I don't really care. The low rating is ridiculous but not surprising xD
DAAAAAMN. So I predicted correctly that the original group of friends were all a bunch of little punks, turns out they're also privileged or pricks or BOTH. They're worse than I thought! Not just pricks and privileged, but also minor criminals and Non's being dragged into it. And there was also something about the teacher killing himself right? F*ck, something tells me he gets accused of something he didn't even do, maybe even by Non who is likely to become way more desperate as the situation gets worse. I also assumed Non would eventually lose his mind over whatever they do to him at the cabin, and now it seems more plausible since he's already on meds so it's gonna be a build up that pushes him over the edge.
I stand by my assumption that Jin is suspect, and is working with Non (ghost or not) to kill these SoB's all this time later. Not that I don't think Jin is a punk too and that he also has a hand in some shady sh*t, after all, how would he have made friends with those tw*ts to begin with if they didn't all have something in common! This was a great ep, I'm enjoying this show and I love the acting.
OMG your poor mom. Though I'll bet she's still going to sympathize with him (or at least understand where he was…
Ooooh I remember that backstory story now. It's been a while, man XD I'm gonna' have to brush up my memory on the original novel in case she asks more questions lol Thanks!
For me this show started as must see tv every week, but as it's gone on I've become less invested in it. But I'm…
I'm HAPPY to discuss shortcomings in shows without arguing, but yeah, people get pressed very easily with secondhand offence. People should be able to criticize a show objectivity without wanting to defend their 'faves', however farfetched it sounds around these parts xD The Sign has plenty of misses all on it's own, and also plenty of positives.
That doctor leaving the moment he came in sense was so funny,i was caught off so badly, this series don't give…
xD they obvs need the police and hospital scenes to continue the story, but the emphasis in certain places while drastically missing in others is just missing the mark
OMG your poor mom. Though I'll bet she's still going to sympathize with him (or at least understand where he was…
I think she will sympathize in the end, I know I did xD up to right now, I feel like he had it so hard poor bb! But I'm loving watching her reactions. She was confused asking why the Mingjue lands are called Unclean Realm. I had no answer LOL. And nope, she overlooks Nie Huisang, just like we ALL did until it was too late. She's gonna' be so surprised, I love it.
But yeah, I remember! And I, of course, stand by the one and only LWJ looks wise. I think we both had trouble choosing beyond the mains though, and I think I said Meng Yao after LWJ and WW? Haha xD My terrible memory strikes again. In the end I plan to ask her who she rates when it's all over and I'll let you know xD But I'm keen to see her reaction to why Jiang Chiang became so bitter, to see how much he lost, she's noticed how different he is from the beginning and the start. As for me, any reason to REWATCH this show :D
I'm glad we're only on ep 9. The pacing is going well so far. I'm waiting on a the boss level arc and the build up is SO good, looking forward to a final fight scene.
Other notes: That girl, the deadface one, is like a vacuum in every scene, thank f*ck for the Phaya's sister carrying enough emotion for both of them. And Babe brought his own too. Hell, even Yai came through. Doc's two face game is on POINT. He's nailing it. Props to him. End of ep 9 needs more flesh, and no I don't mean I want a love scene, I mean it needs to be fleshed out. I want proper context since that ending scene came out of nowhere. That did not feel like that was the right moment for them to go where they seem to be headed imo.
Could do with way less police work though, it really is just not the strong point of this show. 😂 and the hospital work isn't much better. Phaya flat lined and right after he came around the doctor and nurse just dipped?
So okay, I'm excusing bad police and hospital work scenes in favour of good action (of all kinds), plot, character chemistry and fight scenes. WAHOO. Ep10 can't come quick enough ya'll.
I agreed with you.Babe is superb.Heng is excellent.Nee Phaya's sister awsome.Dao super robotic and annoying.As…
I hope there's more to that last scene, but not because I'm interested in another love scene, it's because it felt VERY out of place. I feel like there needs to be more words and clarity addressed in that scene. My dude shows up out of the hospital pale, distressed, emotional and f*cked up, and I find it hard to believe that Tharn, who is practical and pretty steady in shaky situations, is just gonna' let ALL that go for a shag. There should be more lead up to that, emotional lead up on both sides especially, so I hope next week shows that, shows how they went from the front door to the bed with more insightful context. When Phaya kissed him and the scene skipped I actually said out loud 'what the hell, not right now!'
But they do seem to do some back and forth on the scenes between eps, so I think we will get some clarity. Love scenes are fine, they're GREAT, but only if they are organic. Otherwise = forced/random.
So I'm on ep 10 with my mother. So far I think she was annoyed LWJ was ignoring WW so much, because she said WW needs to stop being delusional and calling LWJ his friend. I think she was feeling secondhand pride and dignity issues though. (of course, she hasn't figured out yet that LWJ is trying to hide his gay panic, so this was hilarious to me) but by ep10 she's noticing LWJ is not as frosty as he pretends to be.
Also, she thinks WW is a smart boi cause he cleverly monologues how he figures shit out, and she thinks Lan Xichen is the better looking brother (I gave her a weird side eye because I don't agree but to each their own), and I don't think she likes Xue Yang because she didn't comment on his crazy ass, but Wen Chao annoys her (#relatable). She sang the spider-man theme song when WW used binding/bonding on Xue Yang, and finally, guys, she sympathizes with Meng Yao. Oh boy.
I think he might have been alright, considering he said he was only charged with 'affray' which is fighting in public, and it varies in seriousness. His crime didn't necessarily violate the 'moral turpitude' thing mentioned in that article.
also mhok has literally been in prison he wouldn't be able to get a visa to work in america regardless of anything…
Arrest Records: Hawaii Revised Statutes §831-3.2
Summary: This state law prohibits employers from considering arrest records in employment decisions unless there is evidence that the arrest directly relates to job duties or the candidate’s ability to perform the role. In addition, employers are not allowed to consider expunged criminal records or ask a candidate about expungements.

Alrrrrrrrighty. So that was a thing. Some well acted and key moments in this ep; - Notably, Day's mother stopped being a 'C U next Tuesday', which, great, she needed to stand down from interfering in her ADULT son's relationship business. - Another outstanding moment was in the hospital room, can't say I was surprised by the result of the operation, but I think the build up of excitement and let down into emotions was well done, especially the actor playing Day, he really nailed that scene. I still didn't cry (as I'm sure many did) but I was like 'yeah, bro, I feel you'. - Phojai continues to be SO STUNNING. Also, I do hope we get at least a little insight into her developing relationship with Night. They could actually have done the 'second pairing' thing in this show with Phojai and Night as the het couple, I think that would have been great. - I LOL'd at the recipe moment when they were all eating together, the mother actually would have had a right to be upset about Day telling someone her recipes imo, it's LITERALLY her career, but the scene played out well. - 'Being a caretaker and being a boyfriend are different things.' Absolutely agree, mom, you're making some great leeway from the awful example you were before.
Moments in the episode which didn't quite land imo: - Mhok's answer to the mother's question of 'Why Day?' was cheesy and kinda lame. Considering they were discussing Day being normal, but just being unable to see, should have made the answer more direct and simple. Something honest and practical, like; "For the same reason anyone likes someone else, I got to know him, I felt attracted to him, I fell for him.' That answer makes more sense to me. But eh, maybe that 'line' seemed romantic or something. - Not a single hair net was worn in that fancy ass professional hotel kitchen and that's terrible for a restaurant. - Being a caretaker and being a boyfriend are different things.' back to this point, 10 eps in and I'm also keen to see this point made, because so far, and maybe it's just me, but there is an imbalance in their relationship, and it feels like it's coming from Day. Mhok seems all in, Day doesn't. Mhok seems to be set on BF mode, while Day hasn't quite turned that dial all the way over. Could be the eye sight plot thing, could be the writing. Guess we'll see.
Closing scene = ugh. - Day breaking up with Mhok because of perceived pity and his choice to lie about the job is DUMB. He probably would have lied even if Day wasn't blind (not even just because it's an overdone trope but because people actually do lie about things like that irl for all kinds of reasons). And also, the man literally explained why he doesn't want to leave and be unreachable after what happened to his sister (who was not disabled) and Day somehow came up with the result being about him. So yeah, smh. Again, maybe the eyesight plot thing, maybe the writers. (that said, Mhok should take that f*cking job)
This ep didn't ruin the show in anyway, but it was a bit of let down for me on some important fronts, hope they sort it out believably and not in some rushed way with the ep they have left.
they were also confused with how the last ep ended 😂😂😂
