I'm sorry you think this is weird. To me it's much more baffling that they keep letting the senior actress in…
How about a 40+ year old playing a 16 year old in The Rebel Princess? And she does even look young like Lusi, Seven Tan and Ariel Li, who to me can get away with playing much younger characters. I have no problem with older actresses playing younger characters if they can get away with it; Otherwise, Iād be practicing age discrimination with my own gender. I just loved Ariel Lin in āI will never let you goā and Seven Tan in āGo Aheadā.
According to historical records, as the emperor and his 2 empresses are actual historical figures, the emperorās true love was Consort Yu. He was already married to her when he married the 1st empress for political reasons. He wanted to make consort Yu empress but she declined in favor of the first empress because she had not bore a male heir yet while the 1st empress had. Consort Yu was described as meek and obedient and became the 2nd empress after the first was deposed but the emperor still treated the former empress and her family well but they became estranged as they had separate lives. In the drama, I read somewhere that the empress was sent to the cold palace which was a slight deviation from the novel.
I saw this video commentary but unfortunately it is in mandarin. At the very end was the slap that XYY gave SS and the commentator said ā so you like the empress? ā. Hopefully itās not because XYY was jealous of the empress and slapped SS for it ? I think from what I read, SS decided to go with the empress to the Cold Palace when she as deposed because she wanted to take care of the empress. https://youtu.be/o7P9wlMvRs8
I know there's a lot of hate on the mom, but I feel like I understand why she is that way. She's raised sons and…
Yes, I get that but she said if it was YangYang, she wouldnāt have qualms so she just doesnāt trust her daughter and really thinks all those degrading things about her daughter and itās true, she said she doesnāt assign anything to her daughter
it might seems rude for you but she can marry anyone from noble family .she can even ask the emperor to marry…
Right. Yao is such a good person, he would never take advantage of her situation whereas Yaoās cousins from 1st chamber would. HZJ was still selfish and mean here to SS. LBY had to tell her she needs to make friends . I think if I recall correctly as itās been a while since I read the translated excerpt, it was sS not LBY who said such words to her , that she needs to change and to treat Yao better going forward.
Yes, but, this is a drama with a modern sensibility, not historically accurate Han Era China. There is some truth…
I feeL there is a lot of over generalizing again. I am 100% Chinese married to a 100% Chinese and we both come from traditional Chinese families. We see a lot of these detrimental cultural things ( even now) mentioned in our own families but it doesnāt mean we like it or are blind to them. Iāve heard my mother say numerous times, itās for you own good and I can understand that especially being a mom myself but I think this drama deliberately amplify the worst in that sort of parental attitude. I bet there are many 100% Chinese contributors here from all over the world or have ties to Chinese culture or live in predominately Chinese society. For many varied reasons, we prefer to communicate in English but I canāt say we are insensitive to Chinese culture. The reason why I like this forum is because of the diversity of comments. Surfice to say, itās a fact that if you have 10 witnesses to an incident, not everyone will recount seeing the same thing. I also think the director is smart, dramatizing many emotions to entertain and possibly to provoke. Everyone here are Chinese drama lovers .

But in every era, whether itās ancient China or not, there are always those who buck the trends or ideals of the times and to me, SS is one of those. SSās mother is also one of those being a female general. How rare is that? There is always parental love but how one handles that is so different. In my life, I have seen how mothers badly treat some of their children and dotes on others and within the same family. In this drama, there are also many examples of strong, unconventional females that dominated and controlled their families besides XYY ( Wan grandma, 1st aunt Lou, old Ruyang Wang fei, 3rd aunt though she is subtle), Even QiQi is not your typical meek and mild woman of that era. I think in very ancient China, women had more say and freedom than in say, the Qing dynasty. Someone in this forum said woman in this era could divorce, remarry etc. Along the way, over the centuries, Chinese women lost a lot of control over their own fate until the Chinese cultural revolution . These are not just westernized thinking/standards but to me humane standards . Also, this drama is made in modern times for modern watchers and clearly itās made for our entertainment. And to say the commentators here are westernized is over generalizing too much. And I would add that if you read the comments about 2 weeks ago, you would be happy as many were sympathizing with XRR. Just that the tide has turned as her actions are clearly over the top.
He goes on a killing spree to kill the guys that killed his family. The Emperor is furious and decides rather…
Very possibly XRR hits SS because she is jealous of SSās love of the empress. Just a guess. Lemme see if I can find that videoclip - Iāve watched so many of them.
