Just curious, why do you think YS is more like CSS?

I don’t recall where she had disdained books but if she did, it might be a reflex action because she can hardly read them. And I think YS knows her education level and as Arte-miss said, he’s like the boy in the playground who makes the girl he likes cry. I rewatched ep 17 and 18, and it is clear by now YS has ulterior motives in being the Cheng household teacher. He said CSS can marry anyone ( him included he must be thinking) once’s she is educated. His servant was so funny when he said he wants to be their teacher. And in class, he just ignores Yang2. And ofcourse I don’t mean to knock books, I was just being sarcastic as I’ve had it with the master who laments about his lost love at every turn and wants to go see her (3rd aunt) when it’s his own damn fault. And YS is so pompous and he is always seeking her out but always talk down to her. I know, I’m being carried away but just love everyone’s input and discussion. I’m loving this drama. I’m already sad thinking of when this drama finally ends.

You know I give her credit for for not continuing to yell at CSS but she continues to make CSS feel bad by snide glances and the way she favors Yang Yang in front of CSS. And Yang Yang just bask in her praises, hardly speaking up for her cousin. And notice CSS doesn’t say a word against her cousin, who had such a better childhood and whose mother tortured her. She really is a kind and considered girl. Contrast QiQi, whom I love also, with Yang2. Example is in ep 17 when QiQi’s father praises CSS, you can see how she handles it, asking her father if he is trying to drive a wedge between them vs Yang Yang who is silent when Mum said she prefers Yang2 to attend to her because she is better than CSS. But ofcourse general Wan loves his daughter and it shows so QiQi is confident in her fathers love. Double sad for CSS. But when Mum sees how the great general LBY shows interest in her daughter, her attitude starts to change. She just laps it up when Yang2 says in that weak and obsequious voice: ‘ I’ll just leave my marriage up to you’ but secretly pines for YS. So in my opinion, mum just loves to dominate and has a lot to answer for in terms of CSS’s low self esteem and lack of social graces. She’s all about CSS not studying, but that takes time. What about teaching manners , social graces, etiquette, knowledge of lineages etc? If she wants CSS to marry well ( and does she really want that or she wants Yang2 to do better?) those are more important and can be learned faster and will be really critical when she meets the emperor. As mentioned before, in ancient China most people don’t read and write and fewer women do. I mean I want CSS to be educated but it’s not wise to do the shovel technique after 15 years of nothing and ignore other forms of education for a young woman of marriageable age.

Yes, but unfortunately she won’t be prepared for the palace unless parents hire etiquette tutors like in Princess Weiyang and other Cdramas where the girl need grace and refinement.

I do think he is attracted to her because she is so different but he feels she is too rough and uneducated at this time to be his wife which makes him worse in my mind about ofcourse he eventually got engaged to her. I liked him as the innocent boy suitor, good for her ego and growth but Wrong match. But he was there when she needed him most. So I’m going to give him some credit.

I read somewhere since he grew up with his ex, he also felt sorry for her and didn’t want to shirk responsibility but I also think CSS may have something to do with the breakup as well. We shall see if I am right
