According to the author, in her epilogue, she said the 2 had been together for 10 years - 5 points fate, 3 points love and 2 points similar backgrounds. She said HFC would be the best as emperor and his only weakness is BfX. He only has affection for her, nothing else catches his eye. So it is love, everything else may be calculated to win over her brother but it does not negate his love for her. Over the 10 years, he had saved her countless of times and indulged her.

In the novel, there was no loving older brother FC. He was the crown prince and everyone was out to get him. He lived precariously in the palace.

He is supposed to be calculating. So this might be an example of it. And she is keeping quiet because she wants him to love her for herself not what she brings as princess of Qingzhou.

It’s better for our ruthless HC to be lonely and live in a treacherous environment than our beloved HFX and BFX 🤣 and it’s debatable whether having a harem is helpful at all with all the infighting, internal strife, and poisonings. No wonder many of the emperors didn’t live long. Not to mention the cost of keeping a harem.

Same here. I have a few dramas that I am in the middle of watching but for one reason or another, they are not compelling enough for me to continue watching while wRTW is still on. . I don’t feel like watching these ‘fillers’ until WRTW ends, even if I have free time. Perhaps the next drama I look forward to is another Zhao Lusi drama, LLTG.

I thought the end, when he brought along 40 carriages of his things was really funny. I hope they show that in the drama. My pet peeve about the novel are the similar sounding names and too many side characters. My feeling is, there is no need for the Langhua character in the novel. And so many similar sounding names. I know it can’t be helped because of the phonetic translation but still, so many Feng’s I get confused who’s who and related to whom. I liked the epilogue. It ties everything together the way the author intended.

But yes, enjoy the drama as it is made and I read the novel because I was interested in the backgrounds of the characters.

I re- read the chapters involve and also read the composite response of readers and the translator and here is what happened: When he was 4 years old, FLX witnessed his mother’s death under the hands of Baili . That same day, he pushed his brother( in the drama, FJ is fashioned after this brotherbut he was not crippled) down 100 steps and he was crippled- walked with terrible limp and pain. This was recounted by King Young toFLX after they were both injured in the attempted coup which happened during the wedding. Here’s a recap of what King Yong said to FLX - I suspected you knew then. You crippled your brother after pushing him down stairs. I would think that after 20 years, your hatred would have been abated’ . So it wasn’t without good reason why he did what he did. And King Yong did nothing about it.

It was also revealed that fLX had calculated that there was going to be a coup planned by his half brothers but he did not stop it from happening. When it was found that 6 princes, including the crippled were the instigators , they were executed, ridding him of his competitors. This is howFLX operates. He won’t ‘dirty’ his hands by doing the deeds but will let others fall into the pits they had dug themselves. FLX’s man, Ren C made a noise to distract BFX in rescuing King Yong during the attack, resulting in the King’s fatal injuries. Now, Ren C is the one who dislikes BFX and make bad decisions in the name of protecting FLX but BFX was really pissed when she realized what had happened. But all this is in the novel. In the drama, the planned coup did not result in FLX or King Yong being injured. For sure, the drama portrays FLX more favorably probably because they need us audience to like FLX’s character.😁

HFX is calculating., cunning but these are all relative. He is definitely not a bad or evil person. He is not like his father. However I think they try to show where, instead of trying to stop plots and save some lives, he lets them happened so that the bad guys hang themselves. So people died but the baddies fall into their own traps. He could have tried to stop the plots and tell the King but in the toxic Yong court he’ll just get blamed.

Why is he still deferential to his father? Well, the Yong King is still in charge so he can’t burn his bridges so soon and cause further suspicion. Still need to thread lightly as King Yong is still the paranoid inhuman and failed father even though he executed Bailli. Yay! So he was made crown price but the King can also easily take that from him

My take is that since ML and FL were there undercover, their most pressing objective is to get out of there. No time for grief, if discovered, they will be the most likely suspects. How could they even prove their innocence?

The son is dense. When the general suspected, the son vouched for him.

They were all hoping for his demise because each of them want to ‘rule the world’. Even King Yong tried to recruit YWY to help him ‘Unite the 6 states’. As for HFX and BFX, they were in the palace. uninvited. Their first mission is to get out of there alive.

That’s how emperors of ancient China saw themselves - that they are the rulers of the world. They are after all, ‘son of heaven’ LOL. But the world they are referring to is Dadong

She left home because she preferred life in the martial arts world to court life. She is basically a carefree person and her brother and father supported her decision to leave home. I wonder if she will expand on this when her brother dies.

Read the book to get insights but only after watching the drama otherwise you won’t enjoy the drama as much as the core of the story is the same but some characters are composites. I actually liked the drama better.

You got your wish. I believe Baili did use the white cloth the eunuch left behind. They just didn’t show it.

He didn’t kill his family. In the novel, he predicted a coup by several of his half brothers but didn’t do anything to prevent it. However, BFX believed that when she was about to rescue the King, Ren C (HFX’s man) made a sound which caused her to lose concentration , resulting in the King being seriously injured. She was very upset with HFX. HFX does not like to ‘dirty his hand’ he just let his enemies hang themselves through their failed schemes.

By then, Lanxi already knew what Baili did, so he was not surprised when she confessed. He just wanted her exposed and punished.
