What I like about Rowoon's portrayal though is that I can't imagine anyone else portraying SJW! His comedic timing is spot on. Yes, he maybe exaggerating in most parts but those were very suitable to the character. Like the character itself is described to act that way and is such an arrogant, narcissistic, and out of touch royal. And he's sooo into it already at ep 2. Can't wait till he fully immerse into the role.
The episodes are funny so far and I'm loving how it's edited, as well as the overall cinematography too. I love the flow as well. It's rare for a romcom sageuk to be this seamless in its narration.
Wardrobe and set-wise, we're getting the typical Joseon visuals, there's nothing new. How I wish the production capitalized on that to differentiate it from other Joseon period dramas but I also understand that the Korean audience is quite sensitive as well to historical accuracy so they're sticking to the standards.
Overall, I'm definitely on board!! Premise of the story might be shallow but at least it's fresh and hasn't been tackled in any romcoms so far. I love the bromance of SJW and his sidekick too, they are both comedically in tune. Plus CYH is sooooo cute!!! Green and red are great on her.
I know Rowoon is already a good actor but in ep 1, Cho Yi Hyun surprised me. She didn't shine in her other projects, at least to me, she felt like a rookie actress then, but here, she truly embraced being an adult actor and FL at that. She had a commanding presence on cam and I'm loving her scenes so far.
Really? they look like every other clothes from other low budget historicals. They don't do it like empress ki,…
Those were from different time periods than The Matchmakers which is set in Joseon era. If you're interested in centuries earlier than the Joseon period, then you might want to watch The River Where the Moon Rises (Kim So Hyun and Na In Woo). That drama was set in Gugoryeo period. Their wardrobe and sets were amazing.
Is the male lead really in love or he behave like that because of love spell ? is that book real or. just a joke…
You're welcome π€ And I'm glad you just wanted vague answers. I'm excited for your DWY journey! Feel free to drop your questions in this page soon. Some of us will still be here to man the page. π
Is the male lead really in love or he behave like that because of love spell ? is that book real or. just a joke…
I was contemplating in answering your questions because you'd really spoil your viewing experience with this strategy. π Wouldn't it be fun to just let the narrative flow? I had fun watching DWY and appreciated its narration style. I hope you will too.
Anyway, Sin Yu apparently fell for Hong Jo even before the love spell was casted. Since it was his first time to fall in love, he didn't understand his attachment to her, even how he's always thinking about her, so when he found out that he drank a love potion made by HJ, his brain took it as a very rational explanation as to why he was acting that way. Upon acknowledging the love spell's effect, he then allowed it to take over him a.k.a. we could then see a cute puppy Sin Yu.
It could be said that it wore off in ep 7 after their talk with Jae Kyung. But HJ already imprinted on SY that his rational self was having a hard time leaving her alone, hurting her in the process with his words.
Also, just a little warning, DWY doesn't really provide a clear explanation whether the spells worked or not. The effects maybe placebo too. But it was fun watching their lives change because of it So I think the writer wanted the audience to decide whether it works or not.
You may be right but considering that it was a pre-produced production, I don't think it was a continuity error.Besides, even after filming, the actors still had schedules with the director for audio post production. They team could have easily spotted the error and re-filmed it. So, the scene was really deliberately made. Also, what I learned from DWY is that the writer isn't fond of spoonfeeding the viewers. It can be implied that Shaman Eun Wol is a reincarnation of Aeng Cho's Shaman adopter because of the ff:1. In ep 1, when Hong Jo first arrived in the shrine, a voice was heard asking along the lines of "What took you so long?". That voice was Shaman Eun Wol's. It could also be the first Shaman of the Jang Clan which could be Aeng Cho's adopter.2. The first time Hong Jo and Shaman Eun Wol met, she asked the same thing.3. Shaman Eun Wol had repeatedly said that she remembers her past life. These may not be facts that were clearly presented in the series but these were implied. So take these with a grain of salt. To me though, it helped connect things better.
I know this sounds unlikely but the only route I'm thinking about to reconcile the pain that her Dad went through…
True. With the Dad's conversations with Eun Gyol about Cheong Ah, I can still tell that his coldness is just a facade. That's why that scene where he's apparently watching her from his window, and was overwhelmed with emotions when he finally saw his daughter smile like that, makes me believe there's definitely more to the story. He's a good businessman after all.He must be smart.

Hello, Chingu-yaaa! Had to rest from this page for a week to focus on Doona and Twinkling Watermelon but a bit disappointed today as to how this page has gathered some haters. π
Meanwhile, Instagram and Twitter users are all flooding DWY content with hearts and love letters. We truly couldn't please everybody. π

When they were made to believe by Jae Kyung that the spells didn't work at all. Because the seed was planted in them, they started to question the efficacy of the spells, that all of a sudden, they seem to not work at all. The Red Hand came back to Shin Yu, the Fair Skin spell didn't seem to work on Hong Jo (but Shin Yu's assistant noticed that she was getting prettier though), and Shin Yu seemed to have woken up by the love spell by realizing that his feelings for her were true.
I forgot which ep this was, but perhaps on ep 6 or 7.
Hi. That was not Shin Yu at the epilogue, that was Mu Jin. I've shared my thoughts about the epilogue before so allow me to just copy and paste that here for you.
----------------------- ------------- --------- It was never explained how the Book of Spells got buried in the Jang Clan's property. The last time we saw it, the royal family was trying to get hold of it to use for their own advantage. Mu Jin was even captured with it. The epilogue simply tells us that Mu Jin managed to keep it safe. Perhaps the box that was under his possession when he got captured was fake. That all along, he secured Aeng Cho's books and after the dust has settled, he orchestrated his next meeting with her by burying those books in his property and by building a shrine around it with a Shaman and his male descendants to take care of it.
As to why no one could open it but Hong Jo in the present life, this connects to the talismans Mu Jin placed on the box. The past life has never mentioned that only Aeng Cho can open the box. Precisely why MuJin was able to open it and secure her books to safety. But once the box was sealed again by talismans (check the opened box when Mu Jin was trying to bury it, talismans were plastered all over its inner side), then only its owner -Aeng Cho/Hong Jo could reopen it.
This begs the question, how could Mu Jin get hold of talismans?
Remember, the old Shaman that raised Aeng Cho was still alive, and it's implied that she's the first shaman of the Jang Clan's shrine, and also the past life of Shaman Eun Wol. She must have cast the spell on it that's why its power remains strong in the present. And could be why Shaman Eun Wol knew who the owner of the box is because she met her herself 300 years ago.
