Yeah, I really would love to binge this, but despite the gruelling wait for next week's episodes I've actually enjoyed the buzz as well, and the communal fandom madness (or at least most of it, lol)

Yeah, I don't rule out that there may be some fans who did that out of misplaced anger. And you're right that I'm not one of them, my rating remains what it always was. My doubts about this being the main cause for the drop is that many other dramas experienced the same drop in ratings (between 0.3 and 0.4 points), all of them BL dramas, as far as we know now. So it's likely to be due either to previously inflated ratings by fake accounts dropping when those accounts were deleted, or to malicious downvoting also by mostly fake accounts. The drop did come after the pause announcement, but it also came shortly after the rating reached 9.0, and people were talking about it on social media. If it's the former, I expect that we'll see a sudden rise in the ratings now that the series is resuming and is airing the episodes on unscheduled days so that the normal airing schedule won't be affected.

Yes, it's true, the Chinese censorship rules say no intimacy shown below the neck even for het romance dramas. So kissing and hugging is okay, but nothing else, really. And there are even het romance dramas that only have DFKs or obscured fake kisses. The dangai (censored danmei adaptations) didn't even have that, so they had to be a lot more subtle and show the progression in other ways.

If you are concerned about the actual animal actors, the fight scenes are just cgi. There's a statement at the end of the credits saying that no animals were harmed and all animal actors were properly cared for by professionals.

Check out the discussion forum for this drama (not visible in the app, you have to use the website). People have analysed this very thing and the characters' motivations and development. In short, it's to showcase what a coldhearted, dangerous bastard Chi Cheng is, especially to people who deceived and betrayed him. Then cue our naive little MC planning to deceive him... It's toned down a lot from the original story in the novel, but the story is at heart an unhinged fantasy, so you have to approach it with that in mind. Don't view it as a realistic LGBTQ story. To enjoy this, your expectations must be adjusted accordingly. If you cannot do that, this is not for you.

I don't think THAT many of us are THAT unstable that we'd downvote it to the point that it would make the rating drop that much, lol. Most "emotionally unstable" fans here are super upset about the drop, some of us even making up (conspiracy) theories about it. Very few diehard fans would change their rating from 9-10 to 1 just because of a pause in airing.

Yeah, the good Thai BLs get it mostly right as well, but so many of them are like "we have to add nc scenes now to get viewers" and have no understanding of build-up or context. I enjoy a good nc scene that fits in the narrative, but when it's just mindlessly shoehorned into an otherwise cutesy "puppy love" dynamic, it actually turns me off instead.
