first, you should probably stop calling yourself a fujoshi unless you fall under its definition: "Fujoshi is a self-mocking term that literally means "rotten girl" and refers to female anime fans who are nuts not only for attractive male characters, but for imagining them in relationships with one another." it's a negative word, as i explained before.
but onto my points:
"But straight women write straight romantic novels about men raping women and then the women falling in love with them. It's the same thing!" it's not the same thing because gay people have historically been fetishized with rape. straight people aren't fetishized like that. lgbt people have also been historically oppressed so a straight woman writing about a gay man raping another gay man for sexual entertainment is incredibly messed up. especially since lgbt people are often harassed and raped due to their sexuality, and some parents even use "corrective rape" on their lgbt children to "straighten them." therefore, this is not the same thing as a woman writing about a man raping a woman. "People read those because they want to read a woman and a man just like how I watch this because I want to see a man and a man.." why do you choose a drama with the worst representation of an lgbt storyline if you want to watch two men together? dramas like these are harmful to the community because they cause people to not take us seriously. it's not a light-hearted drama, it's a drama without a plot.
"Not all shows glaze over the difficulties of coming out. All BL does not use these tropes. BL is still a happy fantasy world, yes. It's not realistic, but are Kdramas realistic?" of course there are some gems, like ITSAY! that was wonderful. but there are also too many dramas that follow tropes. i can give you a list of tons of bl dramas where homophobia, rape, and other forms of sexual assault are seen as comedic or normal. and bl can't be compared to kdramas because the bl industry specifically caters to straight women that like seeing men together. yes, there have been some bls trying to get rid of the catering like 1000stars and ITSAY but most bls are not for queer people. there may be a lot of satisfied straight women in the comments of a bl drama, but how many lgbt people are happy? these dramas are typically not accurate representations of queer people. also, kdramas are typically straight because south korea is extremely conservative. there is not a single mainstream kdrama with a gay lead character. you can't compare the two at all.
"Also I do not see the difference between this BL and other BLs. It gives into fans desires? So do all the fanmeets" not every bl is there just for fan service. some are artistic and respectable. but ones like these that "give into fans desires" are terrible because all those fans want is boy-on-boy actions. it's homophobic—they don't care about the queer people themselves. this drama doesn't have a plot because the producers know it'll sell anyway since the fans only want boys to kiss each other due to fetishization. it's DISGUSTING, and it's a recurring problem in the industry.
i don't like the fan meets either, and i also don't like fan service in kpop. though, there are also respectable people watching bls. if we got rid of all the toxic fans, respectable fans could watch in peace, bls would be taken more seriously, and they would be popularized especially in the states.

that's great that you watched 100 gay films. congrats. thanks for counting. but 100 is not that many compared to the millions of straight films out there! there is not enough representation for queer people. do you think the lgbt community, consisting of millions of people, would be satisfied with just 100 films??? i'm guessing that drama, "ultimate masturbation," is one of the 100 films you watched, and it has a gay person raping someone else as a plot device. how is this proper representation? i guess since you're straight you won't understand. but i've suffered a long time from not being able to see people like myself on the big screen and in mainstream dramas. but you, though, can turn on netflix and can almost every movie on there is straight. you can see yourself on the screen easily. i have to hunt for movies/dramas where my sexuality is not used as an excuse for "boy on boy" action or whatever, like this drama. this drama would not have happened like this if it were straight. the producers would have put more thought into the plot and the characters would be more fleshed out.
homophobia is very prevalent in all over the world, so as a result, there's constant queer erasure and not that many queer films. in china, they literally censor lgbt novels and adapt them into bromances/friendships. and regarding 50 shades of gray, i called it normal because it wasn't there for fetishization, it was just a sexy movie. the fact that it was straight plays into that fact because STRAIGHT PEOPLE HAVE NOT HISTORICALLY BEEN FETISHIZED. gay people have. so fifty shades of gray is not relevant at all to what i'm talking about in that regard.

MANY people believe bl is real life. i've seen so many gay couples on social media platforms just living their lives and then you will see all the comments under it that say things like, "omg, a real-life bl couple." just recently, there were was a video of two male close friends on a reality show and there were comments on it like "i love bl" and "my favorite bl couple." fans are already fantasizing that these friends are in a relationship because they are boys. they think bl is real. as i said before, thousands of straight women say they want to be gay because they believe bl is an accurate representation and think it's a super sexy, fantasy-like life. it's crazy how many of them there are. i don't think you know as much about the bl industry as you think if you believe people like this don't exist.
"I don't know how much BL has harmed or helped the queer community, but I hope it helped more than harmed" it's harmed more than helped (also, you should say lgbt community, not queer community). we got some great thai lgbt media like ITSAY and UWMA but bl in general has a huge following of fetishizers. the industry has to be completely reformed for it to help the lgbt community. "I always believe things change, and It Will Get Better" is something very optimistic that only a straight person could say. change is slow, keep that in mind. it will take decades for the fetishization to stop. i have no idea when the bl industry and its fans will start fully respecting the lgbt community. i have no idea when all people will start respecting the lgbt community. it definitely won't happen while i'm still alive.
i genuinely want to help you understand since i know you're a good person. so please take the time to just go through what i'm telling you and don't invalidate what i say. it's the worst thing you could do if you are an ally.

gay people are treated like fun, 2D characters in these. rape, sexual assault, abuse…it's all there, used as plot devices and character development, never acknowledged as things that are wrong. the fetishizers really like it. a lot of the time, the two male leads barely kiss and have terrible chemistry—but the requirement is good looking actors that have a power imbalance and have some awkward sexual tension. that's enough for the sexual fantasies. they don't even need for it to be porn.
i'd also like to point out that there are millions of movies about straight people being flawed, normal humans falling in love and living their lives. these films aren't fetishized! and neither are the ones used for for sexual entertainment like fifty shades of gray. they're seen as completely normal/sexy. but queer people dont have many movies/dramas like these. the bl industry is huge and would've been great for normalizing queer people in media—but instead they use their budgets for crazy, fetishizing straight women to live out their fantasies of their male co- workers/classmates being in a relationship via a tv drama. there's also common harassment for straight men to assault lesbian women on the street and force them to kiss. it doesn't have to be porn. gay people get fetishized however, whenever. so i absolutely hate this drama for playing into fans' desires. it's very sad, and i'm very tired :(

hello! please make sure you know about the bl industry before saying things like this. i know you meant no harm, but the comparisons you made make absolutely no sense. let me explain.
first, i’d like to say that this isn't porn. this is nothing close to fifty shades of gray. it's not marketed as something sexy, but rather as a coming of age drama based off a thai belief that people born on a specific day of the week have certain personality traits.
most bls are marketed like this. if they were marketed as porn, the bl-obsessed fans would never watch them because it would be seen as disgusting and shameless. if these same dramas happened with straight people, the fans would not watch them because they only want to see boys with other boys! so it’s not the same thing, as you said. the important part is that they are gay. that leads me to bl fan culture. bl industry fans are known to fetishize gay men—that’s what i meant about the whole fantasizing thing. they call themselves fujoshis, which are women that like watching bl. that term started out pretty neutral, but now it's come to mean that you obsess over bl, say things like "i want to be gay omg," and "gay couples are cuter than straight couples." weird things to say, right? the bl industry fans are NOTORIOUS for it. as a result, most producer teams behind bls use badly written scripts and mediocre actors because the fans will watch it anyway as long as the actors are handsome and there is some sexual tension between them. they do it to make money, so they give the fans what they want, resulting in a poor representation of queer people. so here, you see that this isn’t simple sexual entertainment like fifty shades of gray, or a poignant people about gay men having a sexually charged encounter. it’s a set up for fujoshis to see cute boys kissing each other and fetishize them. that’s how the bl industry is. there is often rape, sexual assault, abuse, unbalanced power dynamics, homophobia, transphobia, etc because this is what the fans like to see. rape and other sexual assault is “romantic” if the aggressive male lead is using it to “punish” the softer male lead for hugging or even just talking to another guy. the fans call them husband and wife because they love heteronormativity. male leads often say, “i’m not gay because i’m not into men…but i do love (insert male love interest’s name) which is incredibly toxic and just feeds into these homophobic fans’ fantasies about straight men falling in love with each other and kissing. there’s always a fujoshi character that forces the male characters together because she “likes seeing gay couples together.” these are only few of the tropes used in bls ad nauseam. it’s really tiring! these aren’t films/dramas about realistic, flawed gay people. even producer teams acknowledge that bls aren’t even technically about boys that love boys, as it technically is supposed to be—it’s just turned into straight boys kissing each other. coming out, bullying, getting disowned is never properly talked about in these dramas because their sexuality isn’t talked about. what matters is that two boys like each other and want to kiss each other and that’s “hot.” fans also ship the actors together, who are forced to act like a couple and do fan service on stage at meet and greets (like playing sexual games with each other and kissing each other. and get this…most of the actors are straight. if the fans see them with a girlfriend, they are cancelled! it’s also known that bl actors often get harassed and sexually abused behind the scenes…their images are controlled by their company so fans can see the “pure” boys they want to see and continue to fantasize about them being together. are you starting to see why bls like these are so problematic? they’re only there for the fans!)

exactly! and tbh, as a queer person myself, it just makes me feel so useless that my sexuality is used for pure entertainment. they're not taking these diverse characters seriously, as if thinking that even if the plot is terrible, fans will still like the show as long as there is some sexual tension. is this how the producers see us? reduced down to a marketing scheme.

Since this is a rom-com, it's going to be pretty lighthearted, and the romance isn't very serious since the series just started and they're focusing on building up the characters' personality through humor. personally, i like it! but don't worry, i'm sure it'll be awesome as the plot progresses :)

it's basically homophobic, at this point. i hate how BLs are just an excuse to make male actors get intimate with one another. They throw in a terrible plot, add some lighting, and then somehow the delusional fangirls screaming. this is not the kind of representation queer people deserve in media.

to be honest, if no new BL series come out in thailand, i probably wouldn't complain about that. i'll be just fine watching lgbt shows from other countries where queer characters are used as more than just fanservice :)
the film/drama industry is tough. if they make a bad drama and then only air it for two hours on their channel, they probably will not make a profit. you can appreciate it all you want, but that won't pay for all their production costs, unfortunately :( and i don't even mean this in a rude way, it's just the truth. this drama, overall, has not been well received by its audience.

hi, yes i agree, representation is great! but i just wanted to let you know that saying "gays" is offensive since it reduces gay people down to there sexuality and dehumanizes them. saying "gay people" works though, like i just did! :))

yes, and there's nothing wrong with that, but keep in mind by saying that you like the censored adaptations of BL novels better than the novels themselves, you're supporting queer erasure and supporting the homophobic censorship laws in china. i get that you don't like romance, and i'm sure you didn't mean it this way, but saying that you don't want it to be "actual BL" is harmful because the LGBT community barely gets any representation in media. The only reason this show is a bromance is because of homophobia. We want it to be a BL so we can help normalize all sexualities and support young people of the LGBT community with people like them on tv. There are other bromance shows in china that are not censored adaptations. You could watch those.
