I actually don't dislike the mother either. I find her character quite compelling in fact. She's clearly struggling to be a mother to the daughter she missed for 15 years, but doesn't know or understand. While I certainly don't agree with any of her methods, and find it frustrating that she refuses to listen to anyone who tries to make her change her behavior, I can't fully dislike her either. Cause no matter what, she's not doing any of this to spite her daughter. She just doesn't know how to do things any other way. She's only been raising boys and soldiers. And she has a hard time letting go of her image of what a "proper lady" should be like. But at the same time, her view of how a young woman should behave is formed by the society around her. CSS does indeed not fit the bill of a good, well-educated woman from a good family (at least not if one expects to marry in to a good family of certain status). What her mother doesn't get is that that's actually alright, there are people out there who will approve and appreciate CSS just the way she is. I'm fully expecting her to get that eventually. On the other hand, CSS is, just like her mother, very proud, and on top of they young. Young people always think they know best. So she's not willing to bend or meet her mother half-way either. Unfortunately CSS has been so mistreated in the past that she has a hard time trusting anyone, and tends to think the worst of most people, which makes her treat her mother like her enemy. If both of them would be willing to just put their pride and insecurities aside and actually try to talk and see things from the other person's perspective then there could be some hope of changing the relationship for the better. I'm actually looking forward to see if and how their relationship changes over time.

Actually, the character for his surname is 凌, the character for zero would be 零 ，and his name is 不疑 not 不一 ( characters for no and one). However, these characters are pronounced in the same way.

Her dad's name is Cheng Shi, so honestly it had me a bit worried there a second as well. But she refers to him as "Old magistrate Cheng" in trailer for ep 13, she wouldn't call her dad that. And he's the one who approves of the engagement, so he's clearly still alive in ep 14.

Well, I figure it could be a relative, doubt it's the brother, don't remember them mentioning he had that sort of post. Someone who has read the novel will have to help us sort out the relationship.

If I understood it correctly it was the governor/county magistrate of wherever they are (he was also mentioned in the trailer for episode 13)

I'm about 2 episodes in as well. I find it all both annoying and amusing at the same time. I began clapping my hands when CSS dad imitated her and started to throw a tantrum as well 😂

I honestly find this whole situation a bit forced, and very uncharacteristic of GQF. Pan'er has known all along who he is, and she still loves him and wants to marry him. If it doesn't bother her that he's CSO, why does it start to bother him now? Makes no sense. And even if he doesn't want to see her directly right now, how hard can it be to leave a flower at least? That way she'll worry less, and it'll be easier to sort the problem out later. Ah well, couldn't expect things to remain perfect all the way.... But for heavens sake writers , don't drag this out more than necessary will ya?

Honestly, I don't think she has feelings for him. But she thinks he can offer her a way out and a better life, so even if she's hesitant at first to give in, she still goes along with him. She doesn't want to burn that bridge, and he treats her well enough. I don't think she feels she has any reason to reject him.

Honestly, he gives me the creeps. I don't like him one bit. I get the feeling he keeps on manipulating Yinzhang in various ways. And she's still sooo naive, and doesn't keep her guard up enough....
